00:00Seeing photos of this caged-up gibbon completely stopped me in my tracks.
00:06Her name is Thong, an endangered white-cheeked gibbon and a survivor of illegal wildlife trade.
00:12We are going Nat Geo mode at the dodo to find out all about her story.
00:20Thong was bought as a baby at a wildlife market in Bangkok.
00:24Most baby gibbons sold in wildlife markets are poached after their mothers are killed.
00:30For the first 10 years of her life, Thong was kept alone in a makeshift cage.
00:39She tried to escape multiple times and her owners eventually caved in
00:43and called Wildlife Friends Foundation to ask for help.
00:47After one look at the photos of Thong,
00:50they got in the car the next morning and drove three hours to go find her.
01:01She was taken to WFFT's rescue center for treatment and rehabilitation.
01:09After 10 years behind bars, Thong was finally free.
01:20But the best part was yet to come.
01:24She was introduced to new friends.
01:27Most importantly, Joey.
01:31Thong and Joey clicked right away.
01:35In the wild, gibbons usually form male-female pairs, but Thong and Joey are both females.
01:42WFFT actually calls them their first female gibbon couple.
01:47To top it all off, Thong and Joey are now living together on their very own gibbon island.
01:54It's so amazing to see Thong get this new chance at life and pretty instantly find a mate.
02:00Follow along with WFFT to learn more about the amazing work they're doing to help endangered
02:06animals just like Thong.
