00:00She had worn this collar for practically her entire life,
00:03so watching it finally come off was so much more than removing a collar.
00:09For the first time, Parsley was free from something that had been used to control her for years,
00:14and getting to this moment took rescuers 10 long months.
00:16Parsley had been spotted at the city's main beach where she was being used as a prop for tourist photos.
00:21From that moment, Valentina and Leonid, a Ukrainian vet couple, spent almost a year trying to get her out.
00:26When she was at their care, she was incredibly weak and needed IV fluids right away.
00:30Her body was covered in wounds, there were burns on her arms from training,
00:34and the collar and costume she'd been forced to wear had left permanent scars on her body.
00:39She spent so much of her life being handled and treated like a photo prop,
00:42that she hadn't had the chance to live the way a monkey normally would.
00:45And that's something you can't undo overnight.
00:48In the beginning, Valentina barely left her side.
00:53Parsley would curl up in her lap and cling to her arms,
00:55and for a while, that was where she seemed most comfortable.
01:01Little by little, they started introducing her to something completely different.
01:04Having built a wildlife sanctuary of their own,
01:07it was time to introduce Parsley to her natural world.
01:10Giving her the chance to finally make her own decisions.
01:17That's what makes watching her progress for me so special.
01:26She's still got a long way to go,
01:27but the next chapter of Parsley's journey is to introduce her to a monkey family,
01:31where she can learn how to be wild and free.
