00:00We really thought that this deer had no hope. He was mangled and twisted up.
00:05So the dodo reached out to learn how we set him free.
00:09How did that day kind of unfold? A road deer tried to jump through a set of iron
00:16railing gates. It's struggling to get out. It's got itself stuck in between the ribcage and the
00:20hips. Every other hole in that gate has got a spike sticking up so I'm really hoping that the
00:26deer hasn't impaled itself. Deer suffer from something called capture myopathy,
00:31which means that when they're trapped and they're super stressed out they can die quickly.
00:37Lewis managed to go around one side.
00:41Let's just cover his head first. We're keeping it super calm.
00:47The deer had likely been spooked by a car and tried to force through the gate.
00:52This is probably where he scraped it. Possibly superficial.
00:55His limbs were in really weird positions. I thought it was a broken leg.
01:03Lewis was actually able to manoeuvre the deer's hips.
01:06He's picked the only one that hasn't got the spike.
01:09Incredibly, it had avoided spikes.
01:10There we go. Let's just keep him calm.
01:14Can you talk about the health check that Lewis did?
01:17He then took it out and assessed for injuries.
01:22So that actually is superficial. So I think we can just clean that up and that'll be okay.
01:29He applied antiseptic cream to make sure that those areas weren't going to get infected.
01:37The next step is to give it some space. So we're going to step all the way back over there.
01:42How did you feel seeing him run away?
01:45To watch him stand up, the lack of injuries from what looked like a horrific incident,
01:50was completely incredible.
01:52So
01:59You
