A book worth looking at.
Transcript
00:00Hey, shalom brothers and sisters. Welcome back. I thank you again for joining me today.
00:04Hey, today I'm going to do a book review and it's a real good book. I recommend, I highly
00:09recommend that you pick this book up. It's called Jesus, Apocalyptic Prophet of the New
00:15Millennium by Bart D. Ehrman. I've got a few of his books and really when it comes to Bart
00:24and his material it's worth investigating, looking up and researching. This book here, it's
00:31got, let's see, book's got, trying to find out what the pages are here for you. It's not
00:48a big book, but the, the print is real small on it. So, uh, 273 pages. It's a small print
00:56here. Let me, I'll show you. You can see that. It's small, small print. I got this off Amazon.com.
01:06Ooh, pretty cheap as a used book, but it's a real nice book. Real nice book in good condition
01:12for, you know, being, being cheap. Uh, copyright was in 1999 by Oxford University Press Inc. Uh,
01:24he's got a preface on here. Uh, no pictures, of course, no pictures in here and, uh, no little
01:34footnotes at the bottom like some books have. Um, let's see if I can try to read this, some
01:40of this to you. Uh, in this highly accessible discussion, Bart Ehrman examines the most recent
01:48textual and archeological sources for the life of Jesus along with the history of first century
01:56Palestine, drawing its fascinating portrait of the man and his teachings. So he's investigating
02:05the historical Yeshua or what you'd call Jesus. And he did a fine job. I've, uh, I've done
02:14another, uh, book review on him book or two, and I plan on doing a couple more. I've read
02:19a couple of the other books and, uh, I'll get those published as soon as I can. But like
02:25I said, it's very interesting. Uh, right here on chapter 14, it says Jesus as the prophet
02:33of the new millennium then and now, even though Bart is, uh, agnostic, he's not a believer. He
02:42was once a believer, but he's still interested in, uh, the biblical, the historical side of
02:47Jesus and, uh, the early Christian movement, of course. Uh, title page, title page right there.
03:01But yeah, I highly recommend it. Uh, I'm going to say, uh, page 78, I'll just read a sentence
03:09here. It says outside the canon's conclusion, uh, page 78, no matter how you slice it, you
03:18have to rely on the new Testament. If you want to know about the life of the historical Jesus.
03:26So, and this book, oh, this book has a lot of highlights and underlines and stuff like
03:30that. It came like that. So that's what you get, you know, and you get a used book, but
03:35I don't, I don't mind. It's a real nice book. Good book. It's got some good reviews back here.
03:40Let me see if I could, uh, read one for you. It says here as fine and, uh, as fine
03:48and gathering
03:48of the voluminous Jesus scholarship as you'd like to find, but the Delantha journal constitution.
03:57Um, see if I could read another one here and elegantly written, much needed book.
04:04Ehrman should be the first book for any lay reader interested in the historical Jesus.
04:09And that was by, uh, Kirkus reviews. Never heard of that, but I'm sure they're, yeah,
04:15reputable and everything like that. But anyways, uh, yeah, I got this off Amazon and
04:21you know, check it out, check it, check it out. Uh, it's worth it. Uh, barter him and his
04:26materials get you to think a little bit, but anyways, uh, that's all I have to say right
04:31now. Uh, thank you again. And till we meet again, brothers and sisters, peace out and shalom.
