00:00but do you feel like if if he never made changes to his golf swing in the way he swung
00:06it maybe
00:07back when he was a freshman do you think you know we're talking about a two-time u.s open
00:12champion
00:12here josh like this is a pretty high bar we're talking about do you think that he would have
00:17been more successful if he didn't go i didn't go and chase all of this distance and i i know
00:23that's
00:23a stupid question to ask but i'm curious of what your answer would be i don't think so i think
00:28you
00:28would only be successful by the pursuit of perfection um he's got a little victor hoffland
00:33in him um but so you know when i when i recruited bryson and he and he came to smu
00:39i never saw him
00:39hit a ball on a hazard in two years it's so great it was it was very you know i
00:45i would i would call
00:46it one one plane and he called it zero shift uh plane is what he called it he and his
00:51instructor
00:51mike shy at the time just did an amazing job and i'm telling you i never he didn't hit it
00:55very far
00:56hit a seven iron like 155 60 yards uh driver was probably carrying 275 but he i never saw a
01:03ball
01:03on a hazard in in two years of being around him in college and he just hit it so darn
01:09straight and
01:09um but i think if i would almost compare it a little bit to tiger i mean tiger won with
01:15so many
01:15different golf swings and so many different but he was constantly wired by that trying to get better
01:20in the pursuit of perfection although we know it doesn't exist uh so i don't think bryson would be
01:25the player he is without going down some some different routes of bulking up and then trying
01:30to hit it as far as he can yeah he's you know a little slow i mean he's gone through
01:34some different
01:34phases in his in his life um i wish he'd get his wedge play better then i think he would
01:40be really
01:40good uh but but it's as i've joked in the yard it's it's sometimes not the easiest hitting a wedge
01:45with a six with a six iron uh but i got a funny story on that one so the best
01:49uh one of the shows
01:50again when you talk about why guys make it and why some guys don't um his freshman year
01:56and at smu he was really struggling with his short game and really struggling with his wedge play well
02:02it's very hard when the clubs are seven or eight degrees upright and your wet and your lob wedge is
02:07the length of a six iron uh it's it's it's hard so he called me one night late night he
02:12said coach he
02:12goes can you please bring me a normal link lob wedge i knew i would lose his credibility and respect
02:18if i ever push this on him because that's why he came to play for me because i believed in
02:22his ways
02:22but he called me and i'm thinking oh my god thank god i'm gonna get a lob wedge in his
02:26hand that's
02:26normal and man then we can really go to work so he says bring a lob wedge i said look
02:31i'm gonna run
02:31you through some games test tomorrow and i'm gonna let you decide so i get a call i wake up
02:36in the
02:36morning they've got a voice message on my phone at about 5 30 in the morning it says coach i
02:40can't do
02:40it um i've got to stick with my stuff i said great i said well meet me at the practice
02:45facility and i'm
02:48with a six iron or seven and a half iron or whatever whatever the length of it is um so
02:53i'll be darned if we didn't kind of kind of figure it out and understand that there's certain things
02:58he has to do with the clubs that upright and that long and uh but that shows his it's a
03:03stubbornness
03:04yes but you have to have a certain amount of stubbornness out here to be to be elite uh to
03:09know
03:09that hey my weight's going to work and he he figured it out we learned how to lower his hands
03:15we
03:15learned how to do things that to create loft on a club uh that wasn't designed to be hitting chip
03:20shots uh so that's uh you know that's where you you realize that guy is is that special and i
03:26i hope
03:27like crazy that uh you know he gets back to the tour i hope he he's you know i saw
03:31he played well today
03:31which was nice but uh it'd be it'd be nice to see him back here where he belongs and see
03:36that hunger
03:37and passion uh you know come back for trying to be the best in the world and um obviously he's
03:42got you
03:42know he's going both best in youtube golf and best you know best in the world i'd love to see
03:47the
03:47that uh slide go a little bit more back to being the best in the world
03:50you
