00:06everybody's talking about what the Giants don't have at receiver going into the season and I get
00:11it trust me I do I mean if you think about it the wide receiver one is coming off of
00:16a torn ACL and
00:17a meniscus repair you lost Wondell Robinson and Gunnar Oshesky just went down in OTAs so on paper
00:24that receiver room looks a little old and it looks a little thin but here's what people are are
00:30sleeping on outside of Malik neighbors the Giants went out and built a receiver room with a room full
00:37of guys who have something to prove playing in a system that's specifically designed to get the
00:43most out of each one of these guys and before I even get into the wide receivers let's just set
00:48the table straight right now the Giants number two pass catcher this year won't be a wide receiver
00:55that's Isaiah likely the tight end the 40 million dollar man that they just brought in that's
01:01Harbaugh's guy he's the guy that they brought in to essentially replace Wondell Robinson from what he
01:08was doing in the slot except that likely is 6'4 245 and a complete mismatch so when I break
01:16down this
01:16receiver room I need you to understand that everybody outside of neighbors is operating
01:23as option number three or later but in Matt Nagy's system option three is still going to have his
01:30chances to eat so let me show you guys what I mean let's break this thing down and we're going
01:36to break
01:36down the entire receiver room and we're going to start at the x position because this guy he is the
01:42x
01:43and when he's healthy he's the x factor of the entire passing game that's Malik Nabors wide receiver
01:49one and when he's back out there he is Jackson Dart's go-to guy there's absolutely no debate about
01:56that let's take it back to when he was a rookie and one of the worst quarterback situations in NFL
02:03history he still put up 109 catches a little over 1200 yards receiving and seven touchdown his first pro
02:11ball and he's already being compared to some of the best in this league at his position then week
02:17four in the second year here came the ACL meniscus tear gone now I'm not out here to speculate on
02:24timelines or how healthy the knee is from videos of a dodgeball game and running the first base in a
02:31charity softball game but what I will tell you is when Malik Nabors comes back and he's healthy
02:37the things that make a guy like that special just don't disappear his release off the line of
02:44scrimmage elite the way he works through the stem of his routes elite press corners don't rattle him
02:51at the line of scrimmage because he has most more patience than what most young receivers don't develop
02:57until year four or five he was already doing in year one and two before he got injured and then
03:04Matt Nagy's offense which is built on RPOs quick game and creating big plays vertically down the
03:12football field Malik Nabors is the guy that makes every single other option on this offense open up
03:20you have to account for him on every down every route every snap so when he's healthy this offense
03:27has a legitimate wide receiver one that can go toe for toe with any DB in this league the Giants
03:35are
03:35counting on it but no one more than Jackson Dart your other starter and he's gonna have to fight for
03:42that title Darnell Mooney and that's at the Z position people forget that this man put up over
03:48a thousand yards in Chicago in 2021 with Matt Nagy as his head coach and his play caller and then
03:54when
03:55you slept on him he came back in 2024 and he put up 992 yards in Atlanta that wide receiver
04:02two title
04:03at the start of the season is between him and Darius Slayton and with Slayton out this spring Mooney has
04:11the edge right now he's reunited in Matt Nagy's scheme where he's shown that he could be that vertical
04:17threat who can win at every level on the route tree he's not just a go route guy he can
04:23run the out he
04:24can run the comeback the crossing route he gives Jackson Dart a reliable and experienced option on the Z side
04:33likely he's gonna eat with the underneath or over top of the linebackers and then neighbors is gonna command
04:39that bracket coverage when he's healthy so Mooney is going to get the single coverage matchups that his speed
04:47should take advantage of Nagy's offense creates the shots Mooney is the guy that hits him over the top
04:54now your third receiver and I mean that because he's gonna be lined up in the slot
04:59Juju Smith-Schuster I know John Harbaugh wants to run the football but this is still the NFL it's a
05:06passing lead
05:07having the right weapons for both 21 and 11 personnel isn't a luxury it's an absolute must
05:14Juju hasn't been the guy that he was in Pittsburgh in a while we all know that but what people
05:20miss
05:20is why Juju works in this specific offense he's another guy that's reunited with Matt Nagy and has
05:28put up some numbers while in Matt Nagy's offense this is a scheme that asks the slot receiver to do
05:35a lot
05:35of things that aren't necessarily about just getting targets it's about moving the chains on third and
05:42medium and third and under and it's all about being that safety valve that Jackson Dart can rely on and
05:50most importantly keeps drives alive now it sucks losing a guy like Wondell but Juju understands how
05:58to work with the young quarterback I mean this guy was in Kansas City played with Pat Mahomes he knows
06:04what it looks like to be a complimentary piece to a tight end and in a system that wins so
06:10in this
06:11room with likely taking the same work and neighbors commanding attention out on the perimeter Juju just
06:18needs to be exactly what he is and that's that reliable slot receiver that wins the chains need to move
06:26consistently this year now behind Malik at the X and I think that he's also going to get a lot
06:33of looks
06:33at the Z as well in single receiver sets that's the rookie the future 6'4 big body Malachi Fields
06:41big and physical and the Giants specifically drafted him because he's a guy that can win
06:47contested 50-50 catches and he's not afraid to get nasty and get involved in the run game
06:55and block and hardball's physical brand of football that absolutely matters because that is what's
07:02going to get a kid like that on the football field now I don't think he'll be a 50 to
07:0760 catch guy I
07:09have him projected around what 20 to 30 but in a room where the depth is thin and the opportunity
07:16is
07:16real Malachi Fields has a chance to be one of the guys who surprises everybody by week 6 to 8
07:23Jackson Dart to Fields is just like Eli Manning to Plaxico Burris his ability and how he's going to
07:31help this team is because he can go up and get the rock and do a lot of things for
07:37this offense
07:37and JD 6's development there's a battle for the wild receiver 2 title but the true first or second Z
07:45will be Darius Slayton he'll be the starter or add veteran depth but regardless I think this man still
07:52has some plays left in him yeah he's dealing with the core muscle injury right now that sat him down
07:58for the spring and yeah his role in this room has shifted with the additions they've made but that
08:05could end up benefiting him more than it hurts him this man has been one of the most quietly consistent
08:11deep threats on this roster for years and he plays his best football when he's not the focal point of
08:17the
08:17passing game he knows the quarterback he knows the building he knows how to get open downfield
08:23and he's made some big games off of short throws he adds another dimension of speed to Matt Nagy's system
08:30where you need receivers who can run clean routes and win on vertical concepts a healthy and consistent
08:37Darius Slayton is a real weapon so I'm telling you guys don't count him out just yet and now we
08:45get to
08:46the x-factor with the biggest question mark surrounding him in this group obj odell backham jr is back in
08:56new york now I know what a lot of you guys are thinking right now he's 33 he's been out
09:02of the game
09:02since december of 2024 he hasn't gone over 600 yards receiving since 2019 and I'm here for it I hear
09:11you
09:12but here's what you need to understand about obj that the recent stats don't fully capture
09:18this man's hands has never left his body his catch radius his body control the way he tracks the football
09:26in the air
09:27that doesn't age the same way that speed does even in his down years in cleveland in miami when obj
09:36got his hands on the football that was in his vicinity he came down with it and he caught it
09:42his contested catch ability has been elite his entire career and in a matt naggy offense that uses
09:49misdirection play action and tempo to create one-on-one shots down the field if odell has anything left in
09:57the tank he is the exact kind of rotational weapon that takes the top off of a defense and gives
10:04dart
10:05a big play option on design shots but I think his biggest impact comes off of the off-schedule throws
10:12where dart buys time with his legs and hits obj down the field on the scramble drill either way it's
10:19a
10:19full circle moment for everybody he's back where it all started and if the ball is coming his way he
10:25still knows what to do with it now in the slot behind juju and he'll have to battle for the
10:31kick
10:31return punt returner job calvin austin the third another speed threat that could be a gadget guy
10:37this man has wheels a legitimate burner he spent three years in pittsburgh basically as a special
10:45teams ace and a gadget piece and every single time they actually got him the ball in space he did
10:53something with it and made something happen not to mention that deep corner route for a touchdown
10:57in 2024 against the giants and matt naggy's offense which leans heavily on rpos and spacing a guy like
11:06calvin austin could be an absolute problem you can use them with the jet motion you can use them on
11:11screens anything and anywhere where you want to get the ball in this man's hands in space if matt naggy
11:19is
11:19creative with them and i think he will be calvin austin is going to have some moments and some
11:25field flipping plays within this offense look i'm not going to sit here and tell you that this is the
11:31eagles receiving room because it's not it's not even the lions receiving room it's not even close to some
11:37of the top five groups in the nfc on paper but here's what i will tell you if malik neighbors
11:43comes back
11:44healthy and there's the neighbors that we saw as a rookie this offense has a legitimate wide receiver
11:50one again one of the best in the league and if isaiah likely breaks out the way that everyone in
11:56the
11:56building believes and hopes that he will the giants have a true number two weapon that is a absolute
12:03mismatch if obj juju smith schuster mooney calvin austin the third and slayton can win their one-on-one
12:11matchups this receiver core and matt naggy system under john harbaugh with jackson dart taking a second
12:19year leap could be would be and should be a solid group in this division the giants have something
12:27to prove and so does every single receiver in that world
