00:06As flames tore through the flourished day bed and breakfast in Delhi's Malvianagar,
00:11people trapped on the upper floors faced an impossible choice, stay inside the burning
00:15building or jump.
00:16For several of them, survival came thanks to Riazuddin Mansouri, a local mattress seller
00:21who transformed his shop into an emergency rescue station.
00:25Within minutes, mattresses that were meant for comfort became life-saving cushions for
00:30those desperately trying to escape the flames.
00:38But for Riazuddin and his family, the rescue effort did not end once people reached the
00:43ground.
00:52And when asked why he did it, his answer was simple.
01:02The operation came at a personal cost.
01:04Several mattresses, bedsheets and other materials were damaged, all lost during the rescue.
01:10There was a loss of 1.5-2,000,000 pounds.
01:12We had to get rid of it.
01:16Where did we get rid of it?
01:18But in a fire that claimed lives and left families devastated, those losses pale in comparison
01:23to what was saved.
01:24In one of Delhi's darkest moments, a stack of mattresses became lifelines and a neighborhood
01:29shopkeeper emerged as an unlikely hero.
01:32Long.
01:34Long.
