A nightclub bouncer and his wife pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday (June 4) to abusing a three-year-old girl, the woman's biological daughter, causing her physical injuries at their low-cost flat in Bandar Tasik Selatan on May 23.

00:00A nightclub bouncer and his wife have pleaded not guilty to abusing a three-year-old girl,

00:0940-year-old Hamzi Amni Zamali and 29-year-old Nurazwani Ahmad Rozli
00:14were jointly charged at the KL Sessions Court on Thursday.
00:18The couple, who were unrepresented, are accused of abusing the young girl
00:22and causing her physical injuries at a low-cost flat in Bandar Tasik Salatan on the 23rd of May this
00:28year.
00:28The charge was framed under the Child Act 2001,
00:32which carries a maximum fine of 50,000 ringgit, up to 20 years imprisonment, or both, upon conviction.
00:39The prosecution objected to bail, citing the seriousness of the offence
00:43and the fact that the victim is Nurazwani's own child.
00:47Deputy Public Prosecutor Ravindajit Kaur also flagged that the first accused, Hamzi Amni,
00:52has a string of prior criminal records, including rape, robbery and armed robbery,
00:57and urged the court to ensure the victim does not live with either accused.
01:01Should bail be allowed, the prosecution proposed 30,000 ringgit for each accused,
01:06with a condition to report to the nearest police station twice a month.
01:09The two accused appealed for a lower bail amount, citing family support in their hometown.
01:15Judge Siti Shakira Motaruddin granted bail of 20,000 ringgit each with one surety
01:21and imposed additional conditions,
01:23barring both accused from approaching the victim until the case is concluded
01:27and requiring them to report to the nearest police station twice a month.
01:30The case was set for mention on July 13th for submission of documents and appointment of counsel.
