00:33The accused, who was employed as a childcare assistant, committed the offences at the centre
00:38in August of this year. Puteri Nurin was first slapped with two charges before Judge Surita,
00:46followed by two more before Mayor Sulaiman. She was charged under Section 31, Subsection
00:53of the Child Act 2001, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in jail and a fine
01:00of up to 50,000 ringgit or both, upon conviction. Several people believed to be members of her
01:06family were also present in court. In the first court, Judge Surita allowed Puteri Nurin
01:13to be released on bail of 40,000 ringgit for both charges. The accused was also ordered
01:20not to contact the victims, to report at the nearest police station once a month, and to
01:25surrender her passport to the court in case she had one. In the second court, Judge Mayor
01:30Sulaiman denied the accused bail. Both courts fixed October 18 for remension and to allow
01:36her to appoint a lawyer. On Wednesday, the Inspector General of Police said 402 children,
01:42aged between one and 17, were rescued from 18 care homes in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan
01:48in a large-scale operation dubbed OPS Global. They were believed to have been victims of
01:55exploitation and abuse. 171 suspects, aged between 17 and 64, were arrested, including
02:03a teacher and dorm caretakers.
