00:05These include nutrition, immunization coverage, housing conditions, access to safe water and sanitation, early childhood development, educational engagement, and digital

00:16The gaps were identified in policy and programs which seek to address the issue.
00:21It has been highlighted at a situation analysis presentation and strategy co-creation workshop on child poverty and programs supporting
00:30child well-being and poverty reduction in Trinidad and Tobago.
00:34It was held by the Ministry of the People, Social Development, and Family Services in collaboration with the United Nations
00:40Children's Fund on Tuesday towards the development of the country's national child well-being and poverty reduction strategy.
00:48At the workshop, the findings of a comprehensive situation analysis on child poverty done by the Economic Policy Research Institute
00:56were presented.
00:58The analysis factored in the national multidimensional child poverty analysis done in 2025, a mapping of 154 social sector programs,
01:07and 23 key informant interviews.
01:10Focus group discussions with children, caregivers, and frontline workers formed part of the presentation.
01:16In delivering the feature address, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry, Senator Dr. Natalie Chaitan-Maharaj stressed that child poverty is
01:25a multidimensional national development issue.
01:28She said, quote,
01:29Child poverty is not simply an economic issue.
01:33It is a development issue, a health issue, an education issue, and a social issue.
01:39Ultimately, it is a national development issue, end quote.
01:43Participants at the workshop included government ministry, civil society, development partners, and other stakeholders.
