00:00Almost 10 million people are facing crisis or emergency levels of hunger in four DRC provinces,
00:08including Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu, which have reported Ebola cases.
00:13The World Food Programme is providing life-saving food assistance to frontline workers,
00:18patients and affected households.
00:21Food assistance in health facilities is essential.
00:25We have patients who are in isolation and without support.
00:28They would otherwise leave the health facility, so in addition to the assistance and medical care they receive,
00:34they are also provided with food that enables them to stay in the facility and recover more quickly.
00:42Malnutrition seriously weakens the body's defences, leaving vulnerable communities far less able to fight Ebola.
00:49Food insecurity in eastern DRC was already at critical levels due to conflict and displacement.
