00:00Ituri province in eastern DR Congo is at the epicenter of the current Ebola outbreak.
00:06Medical teams are under pressure to handle the growing number of patients whilst minimizing the risk of infection.
00:14At this treatment facility in Bunia, new extensions are being built to increase capacity and improve care conditions.
00:25We started in a building that was a paediatric ward that had already been built by the CME hospital,
00:31which had a paediatric building that wasn't yet in use because it hadn't been commissioned yet.
00:37So when the outbreak hit, we saw that there was a good opportunity to start there.
00:43We tried to adapt the layout and make some adjustments to the situation in those buildings
00:48so that we could start admitting patients quickly.
00:53As well as providing medical care, teams are also working to build trust within communities
00:59to help stem the spread of the virus.
01:02Before, they didn't understand what was happening inside as they weren't allowed to come in.
01:13And when there was a death or when a patient wasn't doing very well,
01:17they would come up with all sorts of theories.
01:23But now they can see firsthand how the illness is progressing and how the patients are getting on.
01:33According to authorities, treatment capacity has risen from around 10 beds at the start of the outbreak
01:39to some 700 beds across 22 centres.
01:43But demand remains high, with the centres operating at nearly 90% of capacity.
01:50that they've been able to miss họpist,
01:50and they've enabled us to pass as a place to starvation for the virus.
01:51They give us a chance to help them themミal
