00:00Kenya says it is strengthening its preparedness against Ebola, even though no cases have yet been recorded in the country.
00:07The global charity Doctors Without Borders has set up a training center of the Oscars of Nairobi.
00:13At a specifically constructed Ebola simulation center in Kajardo County,
00:18health workers wearing full body protective suits attend a training course.
00:21Care workers, that includes doctors, nurses, clinicians and even the lab people, are taught on how to identify the signs
00:28and symptoms of Ebola,
00:30how to reduce transmission within the facilities and the community.
00:34We also train health community engagement personnel with the aim of engaging the community to be able to identify early
00:43the symptoms and signs of Ebola
00:45so that they can come early for treatment.
00:51Trainees learn how to deal with the community who are often scared by the sudden influx of health workers in
00:56full protective gears,
00:58as well as how to conduct safe funerals and prevent the stigmatization of those who have recovered.
01:07The way we handle responding to an epidemic is often that we come out of a hospital or a university.
01:15We have knowledge and all that and we think we can manage.
01:19But once we are in an ETC, it's a different reality.
01:23First, you have to manage your own stress.
01:26You have to manage your colleagues' stress.
01:28But you also have to manage the stress and fear of the patient.
01:33The center began training in mid-June and is running through to August and perhaps beyond,
01:39training around 100 people per month.
01:41Most have been MSF staff so far, but the center will also train the Kenyan Ministry of Health officials
01:48and staff from other NGOs.
01:52The center of the U.S.
