00:00It is Rich, Ken, and Ted Johnson here on 93.7 WEI.
00:03You can give us a call, 617-779-7937.
00:06Rob Bradford here at Baseball Isn't Boring, WEI.com.
00:10The man breaking all sorts of crazy news all over the place.
00:13Roman Anthony, he started chaos all over town.
00:15I don't put words in their mouth, Rich.
00:17No, but hey, listen, did you get credit?
00:20Did people give you credit?
00:21No, no, I don't.
00:22Yeah, it's fine.
00:23Everyone gets, well, almost everybody gave me credit, but it's fine.
00:27It's, it's, uh, I appreciate you guys talking about it.
00:30I thought it was worth being talked about.
00:32Oh, yeah.
00:32And, uh, and I also just sort of like the, the way that that was rolled out was, it was
00:38just,
00:38it was one of many, many interesting things.
00:40You know, you have the Anthony thing, you have the Durbin thing, you have the Theo thing, you
00:43have the Izzy thing, you have like all this stuff.
00:46And by the way, they're still trying to crawl out of the basement here.
00:49Yeah, I know.
00:50It is, it is obviously strange how everything has turned out.
00:52But I still don't get how you can only have won nine games at home and it's June freaking
00:573rd.
00:57This is very strange, but we may have a turnaround, right?
01:01Ken, there is a report that is, I told you, I told you don't give up on Brez.
01:05He's his job's on the line here.
01:06Here's Buster Ony.
01:07And he says, our man Gordo resurfaced that this is from the just baseball show quote.
01:12What I've heard today is they are aggressively looking for a right-handed hitter.
01:16It might be a case where the Red Sox are willing to take on a bad contract.
01:21Okay.
01:21End quote.
01:22Now that's Buster who hates, he always is bashing the Red Sox.
01:25You would admit that.
01:26He's always watching this organization.
01:28I mean, yeah, Buster's great.
01:29So for him to say this, I think is legit intel.
01:32Would you just.
01:33Oh, no, I believe it's legit intel, but I'm sick of kind of like, we're trying really hard.
01:38Like, that's my problem with those, like those sort of reports.
01:41Yeah.
01:42And the biggest of trying.
01:43The biggest takeaway is that it's, oh, all right, you're going to take on a bad contract.
01:48Okay.
01:48Okay.
01:49Like, this is, this is the problem.
01:51I'm sick of the trying hard.
01:53And I go back to last trade deadline, like in everybody in that room, you had 30 people
01:57in that room say, ah, I'm telling you, they tried so hard.
02:00They tried so hard.
02:01It's a results business, man.
02:02Yep.
02:02Like you said, you said that your main goal, your singular goal was to get a starting pitcher
02:08who could pitch in the playoffs and you got Dustin May.
02:11And that was, as I said before, that was like going to the store and seeing the guy for a
02:15hundred thing for $130 and selling for the thing for $60 and say, it's going to be just
02:20as good.
02:21Like, oh no, you're convincing yourself.
02:22No, like you knew that what this was going to cost you.
02:25And to come back to that report, you know, it's going to cost you, you know, that you're
02:29going to have to overpay.
02:30You know, that you're going to have to take on money.
02:32Okay.
02:33I got some name, you know, some bad contracts.
02:35Let me list three for you.
02:36Okay.
02:36Okay.
02:37They on the Red Sox.
02:37Nope.
02:38Well, Devers was, but they got rid of him.
02:40Okay.
02:41Houston Astros, Carlos Correa.
02:42Houston Astros are ahead of you in the standings.
02:45Okay.
02:45San Diego Padres, Manny Machado.
02:47Bring the villain here.
02:48San Diego is ahead of the Red Sox in the standings.
02:52New York Mets, Marcus Simeon.
02:54He's not very good.
02:55Oh, okay.
02:56But you know, you're talking about bringing on a bad contract.
02:58I'm just trying to think.
02:59So just so people know, when you say ahead of the Red Sox, meaning they're still in the
03:02wildcard race and why would they trade away?
03:04Yeah.
03:04Because almost everyone's ahead.
03:05But they still may be willing to trade for something in return.
03:08You know, give something to get something.
03:10Sure.
03:11And get rid of a bad contract.
03:12You have no faith.
03:13I'm just looking at Rob's face.
03:14They wouldn't do it before the season starts.
03:16What makes you think they're going to do it in the middle of the season?
03:18Your instincts are keen, Rich.
03:20Bobichette.
03:20Maybe Bobichette.
03:23Okay.
03:25Mets are as bad as you.
03:26Same record.
03:26I mean, Bobichette is having a terrible year, Ken.
03:29You've got to take a chance here, Rob.
03:31They need a change.
03:32They need a right-handed hitter.
03:33I agree.
03:33I agree.
03:34They have to do something.
03:37But you have to show that you're going to be willing to get uncomfortable.
03:39You have to hit the sweet spot of this.
03:43We said this before.
03:44When you've got Kyle Schwarber, you've got a guy with a bad hamstring for nothing because
03:48he wasn't going to play for a month.
03:49Right.
03:49Right.
03:50You know, when you get some of these other guys, you know, in the offseason, good trade
03:54for Sonny Gray and Wilson Contreras, but you gave up guys who weren't going to factor
03:59in at all.
03:59Now what you're talking about is trading top prospects, taking on big money, basically
04:05doing what the Giants did last year, which is taking advantage of a situation to get Rafael
04:09Devers.
04:09And if they can do that, great.
04:11But my point is, and if when they do it, we'll celebrate because this is exactly what
04:16they need to do.
04:17But my point is, is that I'm sick of the trying hard thing.
04:20I know.
04:20I'm just, I'm sick of it.
04:21And it's, and it's, it's funny because when you have all of this talk about like, hey,
04:26we might be going after this guy.
04:27We're trying hard to get this guy.
04:28And then an article like the one in the globe comes out that seems to be so damning against
04:33Craig Breslow.
04:34First of all, it, it seemed like there were a decent amount of people who couldn't wait
04:38to pile on.
04:39And it was, it's, it's been very odd.
04:41As a matter of fact, that's the kind of article that usually happens after they're gone.
04:44Like the smear campaign article, when you kind of see that and you hear all this talk,
04:50like what kind of, do you believe that he is on a pretty short leash right now?
04:55Like, I got to think that he's someone who is on the hot seat.
04:59I think his short leash is winning this year.
05:01Like, I don't know if you're going to say, see you later, Craig Breslow before the trade
05:06deadline.
05:07I think to this point, if to, to lend credence to what you're talking about, Ken, it is because
05:13it is because Craig Breslow has to understand what's at stake here.
05:18He has to understand whether it's, you know, the, his job, whether he has to understand
05:22in the off season and how we said we're world series or Boston, you've landed here.
05:26You have to understand all of that.
05:28So yeah, you have to do this, but it's not in their fabric.
05:32It's not in his fabric to do that.
05:35Like, that's the weird thing about this.
05:36But Theo's calling him out.
05:38You know, they are under pressure right now.
05:41Well, we don't, is Theo?
05:42Yes.
05:42He said he's disappointed.
05:44All right.
05:44To Rich's point.
05:45Yeah.
05:45Real quick.
05:46Noah is our new intern.
05:47Noah, can you come in here for one second?
05:48Okay.
05:48So, so Noah is a brand new intern and there's nothing I like more than when someone gets
05:54to show you what they've got, what they're made of.
05:56Oh, Noah, what is your favorite restaurant in the entire, entire world?
05:59You go, talk to that mic right there.
06:01This is Noah, our brand new intern.
06:02What's your favorite restaurant?
06:03Get right up on there.
06:04Here we go.
06:05I like this restaurant called El Gaucho in Seattle.
06:08Ooh.
06:08Okay.
06:08How about one that's local?
06:10We've just been here like a week.
06:11I mean, the guy, the guy's literally in from the West Coast.
06:13Are you, are you like big into steaks or do you like Chipotle?
06:16Steaks.
06:16Steaks.
06:17Okay.
06:17There's, um, you know what?
06:18Uh, let's go grill 23.
06:21We think of grill 23.
06:22If you can get Theo Epstein on the phone with us by the end of the show, I will buy
06:28you,
06:28I'll get you a gift certificate for you and a friend to go eat your heart out at grill 23.
06:32Whoa.
06:33All right.
06:33By the way, that should be like three months salary.
06:35That shouldn't be a steak.
06:36All right.
06:37Good deal.
06:37At grill 23.
06:38If you can get him on before, let's say before five 30.
06:42Yeah.
06:42I'm going to give you a headstart.
06:43I'm going to give you his number.
06:44Oh, even better.
06:47I was literally about to say, just talk to the guy across and you'll get the number.
06:50But if you can get him on our show by five 30, I'm getting you a gift certificate for you
06:55and a friend at the best, one of the best steak houses in the city.
06:57I'll be on it.
06:58All right.
06:59Good.
06:59All right.
06:59Noah's I got faith in Noah or at least someone who sounds like him.
07:02Noah Jackson does a hell of an impression.
07:06I am Theo Epstein.
07:09That's right.
07:09You guys can split the gift certificate.
07:11All right.
07:11Well, well, Rob, it's, it's a weird place that this team is in.
07:14I had a lot to talk about.
07:16It is a lot to talk about.
07:17And you know what?
07:18To be quite honest, I'm not one of these people who likes dwelling on the negative.
07:21I'd rather be talking about this team, you know, doing something.
07:24I know that was pants off win against Atlanta.
07:26I was feeling good, man.
07:27I was feeling good.
07:28I was in my element.
07:29I was tweaking.
07:30So people know that was five games ago.
07:34What can I say?
07:35It was, as I said, as I keep saying water in the desert.
