00:00I believe that I had a normal childhood.
00:02You know, I had a mom, a dad, went to school,
00:04you know, was a normal little kid.
00:05The way that he would behave with my mother and I
00:07was progressively more and more.
00:11There seemed to be this lack of connection.
00:15Like, I would see him the way that he was
00:17with his patients, for example.
00:19I would see how he was with them,
00:21but I would see how he was with us,
00:23and it would be totally different.
00:24Several years before that, my mother and I
00:26had really walked on eggshells around my father
00:28because he was very Jekyll and Hyde.
00:31I can remember a certain circumstance
00:32where my mother was cooking in the kitchen,
00:34and I was helping her, and I dropped an egg on the floor.
00:37He just lost his mind and threatened to kill me
00:40and made her beg for my life.
00:41I mean, he did that several times,
00:43which also really strengthened the bond with my mother, too,
00:45because she was literally my protector with him.
00:48Even though I was a young, very young boy,
00:51I still know what character is,
00:53and I realized that my father's moral character
00:56was not very strong.
00:57And it wasn't until November,
01:00I started to really see how things were affecting my mother.
01:04She picks me up from school one day.
01:05We're driving to go eat dinner.
01:07She says to me, she says,
01:08I want you to know that I would never leave you,
01:10and if anything ever happens to me,
01:12I want you to know that your father probably had me.
