AJ Brown is on the move. This is welcome news for the Commanders as he heads out of the division to the Patriots.
Transcript
00:00Grant and Danny on the fan.
00:03The Philadelphia Eagles have traded A.J. Brown.
00:06Their number one wide receiver becomes Devontae Smith.
00:10They have to get a lot out of their rookie at a UFC, Makai Lemon.
00:14They took in round one.
00:16And if Hollywood Brown can stay healthy, the former chief was pretty well-traveled,
00:21or Dontavian Wicks, the former Packer, can come on,
00:23you would imagine one of those two guys could become their number three.
00:26But you also have a new offense with offensive coordinator Sean Mannion
00:31that's going to ask Jalen Hurts to do something he's done very little of in his career,
00:34which was throw timing routes across the middle of the field.
00:37Think about some of those crossers and digs over top of zoning linebackers
00:42and the Kevin O'Connell offense where Mannion comes from,
00:45longtime backup quarterback to Kirk Cousins in Minnesota.
00:48I'm not sure how great of a fit this offense will be for Hurts.
00:52We're going to find that out.
00:53But, Danny, I think the Eagles are about to take a step back on offense.
00:57They need to get Barkley back toward what he was doing in 24 when they won the Super Bowl
01:01because he wasn't on the same level this past season.
01:04If they can run the ball really well and marry, run, and pass together,
01:07they'll be fine with the play-action game.
01:11But I'm not as worried about Philadelphia as I even am Dallas right now.
01:16Here's my hottest take I got for you today.
01:19If I'm the Commanders, I think the best team in my division right now is the Cowboys.
01:24I think Dallas is going to be the favorite in the NFC East.
01:27And the team I'm chasing, if I'm Washington, might be Dallas
01:30because their offense is elite,
01:32and they've made a lot of moves on defense to improve a terrible unit.
01:37I smell what you're cooking.
01:38My response is Philadelphia is really good at this.
01:41So my default for a while, until they prove me otherwise,
01:45is if they make the move, it's probably the right move.
01:47Howie Roseman is better at this than everybody else.
01:50They were good, got bad for an incredibly short time,
01:53and opened up a brand new window where they go to the Super Bowl all the time.
01:56And they're down years.
01:57They win 11 games.
01:58So in theory, what you're saying makes sense.
02:01I think Dallas is on the rise.
02:02I'm not writing Philadelphia off just yet.
02:04I don't think they make the moves that they made
02:06without having an idea that they're going to work decently well or well enough.
02:11They've sort of remade themselves here.
02:12I still think that offensive line is not what it was a couple years ago
02:15when Barkley was running roughshod over everybody for 2,000 yards
02:20and could have set all sorts of records but didn't care about it.
02:22He didn't just get bad last year.
02:24Just the whole operation was bad.
02:26It got stale.
02:26It got static.
02:27I think there were a couple setbacks on the line.
02:29It happens every year.
02:31It does.
02:31Lane Johnson, every year, we're doing the same story.
02:33Like, how many?
02:34He's Trent Williams' age.
02:35He's upper 30s, right?
02:36I think it was similar.
02:37It came out a year or two after him from Oklahoma.
02:39But Lane Johnson, every year, it's going to miss time.
02:43Tyler Steen, Cam Juergens, you know, those guys have had –
02:45I think Juergens maybe has the back problems, but this reoccurring issues.
02:49Landon Dickerson, I feel like, gets hurt a lot.
02:51He's always kind of playing through pain.
02:52The one steady Eddie that you always can count on being awesome for them
02:57is Jordan Mailata.
02:58But otherwise, it's been a bunch of turmoil and kind of in and out
03:02and who's healthy and who's not
03:03and which of the interior guys is missing time right now
03:06and who's questionable to play.
03:08You're right.
03:09When they're all healthy, it's a great offensive line.
03:12But let's not forget, they have a legendary offensive line coach
03:15who's considered one of the real weapons in that building
03:18who rolled out because he's kind of over Nick Sirianni at this point,
03:21according to some of the reports.
03:23The good buddy of Kelsey's who's been on his podcast
03:25kind of dogging them for the last couple of years.
03:27So you've lost one of the most important coaches in your building,
03:30the whisperer of all those players, so to speak.
03:32I just think that something's not quite right.
03:34It doesn't smell good over there.
03:36I agree with you.
03:38That's who they've been, though, is turmoil.
03:39I mean, the year they won the Super Bowl,
03:41Dick Sirianni's yelling at fans after like a narrow victory
03:44against some terrible team at home.
03:46That's what they are.
03:47They're this chaotic frat bro who got a shoe stepped on in Arlington
03:51that's looking to fight, but it's part of their personality.
03:54Anywhere else he wouldn't work.
03:55Talking about Sirianni, he's a goofball.
03:56I think he's a clown shoe, but he fits there.
03:59But I think it's a button on a feature.
04:01Like, yes, they won a Super Bowl in spite of that one year.
04:03I think they probably could have won two or three maybe if it was better.
04:06Could be.
04:07Could be.
04:07I mean, again, down years they won 11 games.
04:10So I hear what you're saying.
04:12We're in a year, by the way, an even one where they typically win 14.
04:14I don't know that they'll do that this year because Dallas is too good.
04:16I think the Giants won't be pushovers and, you know, it's hard to win that many games
04:20up here as a famous coach here used to say.
04:23But I'm not writing their demise in Penn just yet.
04:27I would take the under on 11 wins for Philadelphia.
04:32Your argument is essentially this is what happens.
04:36They're just good.
04:38To boil it down, yeah.
04:39They're going to be fine because they're the Eagles.
04:42It just doesn't always go that way.
04:44Yes, they've won 14-11, 14-11 games the last four years.
04:48I'm saying, do I think they're a wild card playoff type team?
04:51Of course.
04:52Could they win the division?
04:52Absolutely.
04:53I don't think they're going to go 7-10, but I think there's a better chance they're
04:5810-7 than 14-3.
05:00And I think Dallas is just being slept on a little bit.
05:03Like, if I'm the Commanders, that's the team I'm most worried about.
05:07With Pickens coming back, presumably, he's got this weird contract situation, but signed
05:12his tag should be there with CeeDee Lamb.
05:15Blowernoy came on last year as a number three.
05:17They brought in MVS for more receiver depth as if they needed that.
05:21Javante Williams was awesome last season.
05:23They're always going to be deep at tight end, led by Ferguson.
05:26Good offensive line.
05:27Prescott, plug them in.
05:28It's 35 touchdowns and 10 picks.
05:31And then on defense, that was the whole problem.
05:33They were the Bengals, basically.
05:34MVP-type offensive numbers.
05:37Horrific defense didn't make the playoffs.
05:39Great.
05:39So let's go out and let's get Rashawn Gary, two new starters on the D-line, D-winners
05:45at linebacker, two new starters in the secondary rear-free agency in Jalen Thompson from the
05:49Cards and Kobe Durant from the Rams, and then you'll draft Caleb Downs.
05:53And on defense, as if drafting Caleb Downs wasn't enough, they got another first-rounder,
05:57Malachi Lawrence, in the front seven.
05:59They drafted a fourth-rounder in LT Overton.
06:01They drafted a third-rounder in Jaishon Barham.
06:04They drafted a fourth-rounder in Devin Moore.
06:05They got five guys in the first four rounds with the five new starters in free agency.
06:11I know it's a lot of new pieces, but they also upgraded significantly with Christian Parker
06:17from the Eagles coming over to be their D.C., which should help them in some of those head-to
06:20-head
06:20games, I think, playing against Philadelphia.
06:22Philadelphia, so I would order the division Dallas, then Philly, then Washington, then
06:28New York.
06:29You're going Eagles, then Cowboys.
06:30Philly, not as big a space as it used to be.
06:34Dallas, and then Washington, and New York kind of eye-to-eye.
06:37Let's ask that question on the phones.
06:38I'll be curious to see what people think.
06:40800-636-1067.
06:43The commanders coming off five wins are not going to get the national attention of being
06:46the team to beat in the East, and they shouldn't.
06:48But who do you worry more about?
06:50Who do you think's the better team?
06:51On a day where the Eagles traded A.J. Brown, Philly or Dallas?
06:57800-636-1067.
