00:00All right, so, John, first of all, is it a done deal?
00:03What are you hearing in Philadelphia about A.J. Brown coming to the Patriots?
00:07Yeah, I would have bet that there was some type of a deal
00:09that was at least, like, agreed to in principle.
00:12I don't know if it was, like, a handshake deal or anything like that,
00:14but what you've heard over the last couple days is maybe not so much.
00:18I heard what you played from Schefter there, and I agree.
00:21I still expect him to go to the Patriots
00:23because the reality is any team could have engaged the Eagles in trade talks
00:27over the course of the entire offseason,
00:28and now that we're approaching the June 1st date
00:31that we've been waiting weeks and months for,
00:34like, now teams are going to get interested?
00:35I mean, maybe, but then Howie Roseman, the Eagles' GM,
00:39wouldn't it look like that then he kind of turned his back on the Patriots
00:42and they had a deal?
00:43So I don't necessarily know if a deal is set in stone,
00:45but like Schefter said, I'd be really surprised
00:48if he's not a Patriot coming up in a week or two.
00:50Yeah, I just don't know what's the motivation to do the handshake deal
00:54when so many things happen in the offseason.
00:57You look at what happened in Kansas City, you know,
01:00got guys going to jail, receivers going to jail.
01:03You know, people get hurt.
01:04What's the motivation to get it done so quickly?
01:07Well, like, so that if you remember the Eagles and the Rams,
01:10I guess we're engaging in trade discussions early in the offseason,
01:14and the Rams wanted to get things done then
01:16because they wanted to figure it out.
01:18They would have had to trade Devontae Adams
01:20if they were going to bring A.J. Brown in.
01:21And when the Eagles kind of were like,
01:23well, you're not giving us what we want.
01:24We're just going to wait until that June 1st date.
01:26They said, no, we're not going to do that.
01:28So I guess the motivation for the Eagles to say,
01:32hey, we want to make sure we get this done,
01:33at least in principle, is they have to set up their season.
01:36They drafted a wide receiver in the first round.
01:38So if they weren't confident A.J. Brown was going somewhere
01:41or had a destination,
01:42you're not using a first-round draft pick on a receiver,
01:45and you have Devontae Smith,
01:46and they signed Hollywood Brown,
01:47and they traded for this Green Bay receiver,
01:50and they're paying him $12 million in 2027,
01:52and they gave up a mid-round selection.
01:54So there's really no place for A.J. Brown to go.
01:57So if you don't have a deal,
01:59the leverage slips a little bit to the Patriots
02:01where they say, okay,
02:02well, you bring A.J. Brown back then.
02:04We're not giving you a first-round pick.
02:05Okay, and so you think it will be for a first-round pick?
02:09Everything that you're hearing is a 2028 first-round pick.
02:11Here's what I think happens
02:12because Howie Roseman wants the first-round pick
02:16because Jalen Waddell got traded for a first and a third.
02:19If Howie gets anything a lot less for that,
02:22he's going to look like he didn't do his job.
02:24So I think you get a first,
02:25but you're also maybe giving up a third,
02:27and then you get a fourth back in return,
02:29maybe a player.
02:30But when it's all said and done,
02:32the shiny object I think is going to be
02:34a 2028 first-round pick.
02:35Okay.
02:35.
