00:00:30You see A.J. Allmendinger coming in. He was kind of tight in the middle of that stage. Pretty quiet
00:00:35though there at the end. Great job hanging on on old tires. They'll just work a little bit on the
00:00:38air pressure adjustment for those four fresh Goodyear's Snoco fuel. You can see Ryan Blaney and Kyle Larson both staying
00:00:45out, ultimately deciding to flip that stage. Trevor. Chase Elliott getting some track position on two tires there, but said
00:00:52he was much tighter. You'll see four tires on the nine car for this stop, guys.
00:00:55You take the track position. You give it away. The juggling act for all these crew chiefs here tonight.
00:01:03But Hall of Famer Mark Martin and NASCAR driver Corey LaJoy. Your pull center tonight, Denny Hamlin went to first
00:01:10to last real fast, Mark, with a violation on the start.
00:01:16In all your years, Mark, have you ever seen a start to the race that egregious?
00:01:21He missed it by 100 feet or more. It's amazing. Denny Hamlin never makes a mistake. I would be interested
00:01:28to see what Denny has to say about that, because either he thought the line was in a different spot
00:01:34than it was, or his head was somewhere else on the start of this race.
00:01:38I don't know if it could have been painted any clearer across, and he clearly jumped, but it's a rare
00:01:43mistake when it comes to racing IQ with Denny, and it was certainly surprising to see.
00:01:47But I believe he'll rebound here soon enough.
00:01:49Had to serve a pass-through penalty. Went from first to 38th. Did make up some ground in that first
00:01:54stage. He'll restart the second stage here in 15th.
00:01:57And right now, after a string of late cautions to end that stage, we're seeing tire strategy, Corey, all over
00:02:04the place.
00:02:04Well, we hear Steve talk about it all the time, about paying the fuel tax, right? You're going to fuel
00:02:08these cars up later and later to get a faster pit stop to get some track position.
00:02:12We're going to be having to pay in the tire tax. You see, and a lot of these guys take
00:02:16rights. Probably you'll be able to put rights on it multiple times and keep old lefts.
00:02:19But eventually, Mark, you're going to have to get to the point where you need to put four on it
00:02:23to keep some fresh rubber on it.
00:02:25So paying the tire tax at the right time to allow you to recover is going to be the name
00:02:29of the game.
00:02:29Yeah, you know, it's just, it's how the cautions fall, too. You know, and how the strategy calls. Sometimes it
00:02:36works and sometimes it doesn't. Somebody's going to come up short.
00:02:40That's right.
00:02:40Hey, Corey's driver to watch, Adam, before the start of this race was A.J. Allmendinger. He won the first
00:02:46stage, I want to point out.
00:02:48But Corey said you might have to pay that tire tax for the 16-year coming up to start stage
00:02:52two.
00:02:52I don't know. I'm sensing big flex out of Corey after his driver was able to get a stage win
00:02:59there.
00:02:59A lot going on when you look at the top ten and the cycles and who's gotten two and who's
00:03:04gotten four the last time everybody made a pit stop.
00:03:07But primarily all those, primarily all those guys up front last made a stop at lap 76.
00:03:12By the way, all four cars from 2311 got stage points in stage one. Pretty remarkable.
00:03:18All right, on board with Denny Hamlin, the Coca-Cola cam here. Starting on the outside. He can start to
00:03:23see the front of the field here working his way through.
00:03:25Yeah, Danielle referenced at 15 prior to the choose. Restart front row. Larson and Blaney are coming through the Echo
00:03:33Park Auto, going to restart zone, and here we go.
00:03:38Pretty wide here with Briscoe down to the inside.
00:03:45Briscoe's going to clear into second place. Up the racetrack in front of the two for the 12.
00:03:5031st to second for Chase Briscoe. Came in with no breathing room when you talk about the standings.
00:03:56A lot of stage points last week and getting it done early tonight.
00:04:00He's one of the kings of the track tonight.
00:04:05That was a one-up on LaJoy right there.

00:12:55You know, he told us during the rain delay, Chase Briscoe did, results-wise, this has not been a good
00:12:59track for me.
00:13:00And even though they qualified on the pole last year, did not get the finish, never been in the top
00:13:0415 here.
00:13:05But to start 31st, get stage points in stage 1, great call by James Small to establish some of that
00:13:12track position with two-tire stop.
00:13:14And now to basically be level on strategy and right here racing for the lead, really, really good spot for
00:13:21driver 19, who tries to get on a heater over the summer.
00:13:25Yeah, he's starting to use this car a little bit more, this Bass Pro Shop.
00:13:28Toyota's starting to feel the effects of the dirty air behind his five.
00:13:33He's got to be smart about where he places this car.
00:13:36What you got on the five, Kim?
00:13:38Yeah, the five of Kyle Larson, obviously on that 37-race winless streak.
00:13:43And I spoke specifically about that to Prucci Cliff Daniels.
00:13:46And he said, look, to be a team that wins and wins regularly, you need to be a 10 out
00:13:50of 10 in every category.
00:13:52So communication, consistency, car potential, pit crew, et cetera.
00:13:56Right now, he felt like they were at an 8.5 out of 10.
00:13:59But I got to tell you, tonight, it feels like they're hitting on all cylinders and could be a 10
00:14:03out of 10 here at Nashville.
00:14:06You know, pretty scary when you think about where this team is because we've been talking about doom and gloom,
00:14:11not performing where you want, the losing streak and all that stuff.
00:14:14The reality is now they're up to 16 points right around that spot where you feel like you need to
00:14:20be for the reset to make a move
00:14:22and performing at a higher and higher level.
00:14:25We discussed their thought process on how things went down a week ago leading laps here tonight
00:14:29and really starting to put themselves in position.
00:14:33But major company here is Briscoe continues to knock on the door
00:14:38and now making a run to the inside for the race lead.
00:14:43Five car just struggling with the balance on the long run here.
00:14:46Still a little work to do to try to get that car comfortable for him.
00:14:48I think the 19 is going to take this spot easily.
00:14:51Nope.
00:14:52Larson's going to stay right there.
00:14:53Side draft down the straightaway here, drawing even.
00:14:56Carries the momentum down the front straightaway.
00:15:00Briscoe tries to slow him down a little bit with the side draft there.
00:15:03Off into turn one and two, Briscoe going to try to wrap around this corner right at the apron.
00:15:08Not able to throttle up right there on the inside of the five.
00:15:11The five can finish the throttle, carry that momentum down the back straightaway.
00:15:16The 19 tippy toes into the corner, doesn't want to get loose or push up into the five right here
00:15:21into the throttle and clears easily.
00:15:23I love that tippy toe, man.
00:15:25It's something we can all relate to.
00:15:26Just delicately dance around the competition.
00:15:30If you carry it down, if you carry the car down in the corner too deep on the inside
00:15:34and you have a bobble, you don't have a lot of room before you get up into the car on
00:15:38the inside
00:15:38or on the outside of you.
00:15:39Here's Corey Heim, Eric Jones.
00:15:42I'm going to have to tip of the hat to Eric Jones.
00:15:45I know Heim's going by him here, but you mentioned Dover and the guys that ran well at Dover
00:15:51and Legacy was right up there.
00:15:53And I wasn't sure because it was a different tire.
00:15:55I know it's banked and it's concrete, but Eric Jones, six.
00:15:59This is a really, really good run right here for Legacy.
00:16:02I mean, Jones last year finished seven and ran over 100 laps inside the top ten.
00:16:07And here he is doing things solid again tonight.
00:16:11Marty, what do you have for us?
00:16:13Christopher Bell storming his way through the field.
00:16:15Restart at 14th up to 7th, Adam, doing one of the top three fastest cars pretty much his entire run.
00:16:21So, Steve, after that last bad pit stop by the 20 crew, after two bad pit stops last week,
00:16:27Adam Stevens told his guys, listen, I'm trying to imagine this an area where we don't shoot ourselves in the
00:16:32foot
00:16:32and don't finish 25th tonight.
00:16:34So, Steve, they're coming up to the stop here in the middle of the states, too.
00:16:38How do you whip your guys into shape but not get them too down on themselves,
00:16:41knowing it's been a rough couple of weeks for that 20-pit crew?
00:16:44Well, at this point, you know, you hope that they can just kind of move forward with it.
00:16:48It's all about preparation, opportunity, figure out what you had wrong.
00:16:52The mistake they had earlier, I couldn't tell if it was human or mechanical,
00:16:55but you just got to trust them.
00:16:57This is that time where it is a total team sport.
00:16:59You're going to need to clean the restart zone.
00:17:01And NASCAR quickly said that's a no-no.
00:17:04So, here you see the launch.
00:17:06He has to come to pit road and give up not only to leave the race but shotgun on the
00:17:13field.
00:17:13And he strove all the way back into the eighth position right here.
00:17:18Still a lot of race left for him to drive through the rest of the field.
00:17:24But I think he's got to work on the car just a little bit, Steve.
00:17:27Not quite as competitive, I think, as he wants to be.
00:17:29I agree.
00:17:30And what happens is when you lose that track position,
00:17:32you just don't have the time to work on your car in clean air like you normally would as a
00:17:35leader.
00:17:36But somehow, I'm not sure how you're going to get blamed for that penalty.
00:17:39I know.
00:17:40It would be.
00:17:42Well, what would you need to go to the back?
00:17:44What was the question?
00:17:45What would the bonus have to be?
00:17:46Yeah, what would you need to get paid to go shotgun on the field and drive through it for the
00:17:50win?
00:17:51He said double the purse.
00:17:52He'd go to the back.
00:17:53Well, I'm telling you right now that if he wins.
00:17:55I was trying to wheel that into the universe.
00:17:58Maybe one of these days.
00:17:59Well, if he wins and on the start-finish line, he says,
00:18:02Dale, you said you're on hook for double the purse?
00:18:05I want to see how this goes down.
00:18:10How about this race for the runner-up spot?
00:18:12Tyler Reddick quiet tonight.
00:18:15Whoa.
00:18:15Whoa, and here he comes, driving up alongside Larson.
00:18:19Yeah, 40 laps on this run, 46 laps on the tires, 46 laps to go.
00:18:24So if you think you can't run long on these right-side tires,
00:18:27you're going to come right here and split it in the middle.
00:18:29You just saw how tough that pit entry was.
00:18:31Reddick made it look very easy, though, Trevor.
00:18:34Yeah, guys, Tyler Reddick on the radio saying he can notice that the track is starting to free up.
00:18:38One to two numbers free here.
00:18:40They're going to tighten him up with some air pressure.
00:18:41Four tires and fuel.
00:18:43And we'll see if they've made the right adjustment for the green flag stop here, Steve.
00:18:46Yeah, the balance, as you and I have talked, not only is the track cools, does it get freer,
00:18:51as we see now, Larson on pit road as well.
00:18:53But on green flag stops, because you go right back on the track at speed, the car is normally looser
00:18:58anyway.
00:18:58Kim, the right rear tire on the five.
00:19:00Looks like he had a little scuff with the wall, maybe.
00:19:02Yeah, and he told the team he felt like he used up the right rear.
00:19:05They're going to take four fresh-figure tires, one can of Sunoco fuel.
00:19:09You see Eric Jones right there.
00:19:12He started out tight, but then set free towards the end of that run, just losing grip, Marty.
00:19:16Jim Bubba Wallace did a nice job hanging in the top ten.
00:19:19He said the rear end, quote, felt shaky, and I just don't have the juice at the end of the
00:19:25run.
00:19:25And four tires, and everyone talking about how free the track is getting, Kim.
00:19:29As we talk free, that is also the case for Chase Briscoe.
00:19:33Said freer pitting this time, obviously came down.
00:19:35They're going to make an air pressure adjustment to no-co fuel.
00:19:38Marty.
00:19:39Kim, what a run for Denny Hamlin from shotgun on the field,
00:19:42as Junior and the boys just talked about in the booth, coming down pit road now.
00:19:46Hamlin said, I'm too tight early and middle of the corner,
00:19:50but I cannot be any freer on exit.
00:19:53Don't hurt my exit.
00:19:54Four fresh gear to your tires as the green flat cycle continues with 44 to go in stage two.
00:20:00Bottom view, where you're screening the 19 of Briscoe, was the leader at the start of the cycle.
00:20:04We're going to see right here if Larson is going to be able to make up any time.
00:20:08I think Briscoe is going to keep the lead through the cycle right here.
00:20:11It's going to be about a half straightaway back to the five, so no harm, no foul.
00:20:15A little less concerned at a track where you don't lose so much speed on old tires.
00:20:19You can run a lap longer, a couple laps longer, kind of holds your spot.
00:20:24You still can't have issues on pit road, and I think that's really the focus.
00:20:28Redick doing a nice job right here.
00:20:29He's kind of closed into the back of the five.
00:20:32Bell had cycled to second.
00:20:34He comes to pit road.
00:20:35Blaney now scored as the race leader.
00:20:39Hosobar is second.
00:20:40You know, Hosobar, an interesting study.
00:20:42He had pit at lap 87, and he stays out to run long.
00:20:45He just pulled on the pit road, yeah.
00:20:49Bradley Herbst also on the pit road.
00:20:51And it wouldn't shock me if Blaney, who's still running very good lap times, tries to run this really far
00:20:56into the run,
00:20:57setting up two tires at the end of the stage.
00:20:59The concern is just that right front tire wear.
00:21:01Will it wear out or will it not?
00:21:03On board with the 35.
00:21:04Trevor.
00:21:05Yeah, one of the few cars that was tight this run was Carson Hosobar in for four tires and fuel
00:21:10as well.
00:21:11Oh, trouble on the left rear for Hosobar.
00:21:13Much like the 20 car, car not jacked up enough, you wonder with those bumps in turns three and four
00:21:19if you have to run the suspension where that left rear maybe droops, falls out a little bit further than
00:21:23you do at other times.
00:21:24Let's take a look at this.
00:21:25Right side looks good.
00:21:26They come around.
00:21:27Let's see if the jack goes on normal.
00:21:29It does.
00:21:30Kind of a short pump.
00:21:31The left front goes on.
00:21:32The left rear won't, so they had to give a little bit more help with the jack.
00:21:38Certainly, the smoother the racetrack, the more aggressive you could be with how quick those tires get pulled up out
00:21:43of suspension.
00:21:44A rougher racetrack at times, you have to have them, you know, hang out a little bit lower, and sometimes
00:21:49you just forget about that.
00:21:50Oh, we've got to spin down the front straightaway.
00:21:52The three of Austin Dillon's turned around.
00:21:55No contact so far.
00:21:56Everybody's able to avoid.
00:21:58Caution out for the fifth time tonight.
00:22:00Yeah, big break, too, for Blaney and Elliott and some of these cars that have yet to come to pit
00:22:04road.
00:22:05That started because cars were trying to get to pit road.
00:22:11So let's take a look at this.
00:22:15Cars were trying to get to pit road.
00:22:17This right here, the six has to avoid.
00:22:19He checks up.
00:22:20Here comes all of these cars.
00:22:22The three comes down across the nose of the 17, gets turned.
00:22:26So all that, you know, as we have cars trying to get to pit road, it's so difficult to get
00:22:30onto this pit road.
00:22:31The transition is so rough, you have to slow the car down, and then oncoming traffic has to avoid.
00:22:38Now is Brad Keselowski.
00:22:40So he checks up.
00:22:43It creates quite a bit of confusion for a lot of other folks here.
00:22:47Sitting right here, spot there, hand side, beside.
00:22:50Spot there, spot there.
00:22:52So he saw the six kind of coming down in front of him, and you can hear him starting to
00:22:55get out of gas a little bit.
00:22:56Buescher doesn't know that and runs into him and spins him around.
00:22:59Just an unfortunate situation there.
00:23:03But I think about how bad this could have been.
00:23:05A lot of cars here, you go through the grass after all the rain, right?
00:23:09So, I mean, there's a whole lot of things that could have gone really, really bad, made it a lot
00:23:14worse.
00:23:14And overall, I mean, still unable to get away without hitting the wall.
00:23:20Now you follow Joey, get an arc here, get a big run.
00:23:23Trimble on blue camera.
00:23:25The 47 moved down the track like, hey, I'm going to pit.
00:23:28I come up, up.
00:23:29All clear.
00:23:30All clear.
00:23:31Nobody waves there.
00:23:32Come on, run, Brad.
00:23:33On the bottom.
00:23:33On the bottom.
00:23:34Inside, inside, inside, inside, in there.
00:23:36TJ's screaming at Brad.
00:23:37So the 47's down the racetrack on the back straightaway.
00:23:41Sometimes drivers will do that to be like, hey, I'm pitting.
00:23:44I'm moving down here, and this is unusual.
00:23:47That's a signal that I'm coming to pit road.
00:23:49Well, Brad didn't really pick up on that.
00:23:52TJ wants a wave or somebody up on the spotter stand to say, hey, we're coming to pit road.
00:23:56He doesn't get that either.
00:23:58So just a little bit of a miscommunication.
00:24:00Only eight cars in the lead lap being in the middle of the cycle.
00:24:03The 12 of Blaney currently the leader.
00:24:05You're going to see the nine of Chase Elliott probably also will come to pit road.
00:24:09Yeah, big gap between them.
00:24:11So only eight cars.
00:24:13Kim.
00:24:14And for Ryan Blaney, he actually said he was tighter overall this run, but the entry did get a little
00:24:20bit free towards the end.
00:24:21Tires and fuel for the 12 car.
00:24:26Chase Elliott telling Alan Gustafson that he could overheat either end of the car on the tires.
00:24:31He could either make the car tight.
00:24:32He can make it loose.
00:24:33So he was kind of confused on what to do.
00:24:35Also having a little bit of radio issue there here in his crew chief.
00:24:39Michael McDowell having a quiet day.
00:24:41Chose to stay out there even though he had some of the most laps on his tires.
00:24:45Last pitted at lap 87 before this one.
00:24:47They've gambled a little bit, and it's paid off here, guys, with the caution coming out.
00:24:51A couple of laps shy of halfway in the Cracker Barrel 400, fifth caution of the night.
00:24:57Yeah, right in the middle of the pit cycle, you see the stack up on the front stretch.
00:25:01We're going to let scoring reset and update the running order when we return of just who got back on
00:25:06the lead lap.
00:25:11Nicholas Cage is Spider Noir.
00:25:14All episodes available only on Prime Video.
00:25:24Let's head to the pit lane, get our Cracker Barrel pit road report.
00:25:30Tyler Reddick, one of those drivers, having to take the wave around after pitting just before that caution.
00:25:35We saw him trying to pass Kyle Larson for a second just before he hit pit road.
00:25:39When he came back out on the track, he was about 10 car lengths behind Kyle Larson.
00:25:43Most of that time, Tyler feels like, was getting on to this challenging pit lane that Dale talked about in
00:25:48the opening of the race.
00:25:48He told his team, I need more help.
00:25:50Tell me what I need to do to get on to pit road, Kim.
00:25:53Corey Haim doing a great job tonight.
00:25:54I currently slotted in the 13th position, but was running right around the top five for much of the beginning
00:25:59of this race.
00:26:00Just starts off tight, and then it comes to him, he said.
00:26:03But remember, he signed that full-time cup ride deal that starts next year, calling this a notebook year.
00:26:09And he told me, look, I've had times in my career where I've been too afraid to make a mistake,
00:26:13and I've actually slowed down my learning that way.
00:26:16That is not going to be the case, even though eyes are on me now with this full-time cup
00:26:19ride next season.
00:26:20It is still very much a notebook year, and I am trying to learn as much as I can.
00:26:24Marty?
00:26:24Well, Kim, look who is in fifth.
00:26:26Daniel Suarez, after the win at Charlotte last week in the call by Ryan Sparks, made the call here to
00:26:31run long.
00:26:32Got the caution that they needed.
00:26:34And Daniel really wanted that pit stop because he wanted to undo the changes they made last time.
00:26:40He said the car just had a really rough ride on that last run, so the caution fell in their
00:26:44favor,
00:26:45undid the changes that Suarez wanted, and now he sits here in fifth.
00:26:49Suarez is one of those eight cars that was still out when the caution waved, so he's able to get
00:26:55his pit work.
00:26:56And we had those eight cars on the lead lap.
00:26:58Free pass here went to Chase Briscoe.
00:27:00He is on the lead lap, 22 others wave around to the lead lap, Steve.
00:27:04And a huge break for Briscoe, so you mentioned it.
00:27:06There's eight cars that, you know, really hit the bingo card.
00:27:10But then Briscoe should be tail end because he's the wave around, but you see him, fifth row outside.
00:27:15So why is he not tail end?
00:27:16Well, because the wave around cars will line up behind a tail end car.
00:27:20Well, that is basically the entire field.
00:27:22So Briscoe gets the free pass and track position.
00:27:26Pretty good luck for who was the leader at the beginning of the cycle.
00:27:29And A.J. Allmendinger won that stage.
00:27:31He's restarting inside the top five.
00:27:33Blaney in control through the Echo Park automotive restart zone.
00:27:41Nice jump for the 12.
00:27:45Michael McDowell up there getting racy in the 71.
00:27:55Good track position for Chase Elliott.
00:27:58He's second as the restart cycles out.
00:28:01Marson back there grabbed a couple spots, went three wide between Briscoe and Todd Dillon.
00:28:06Now we're three wide down the front straightaway.
00:28:09McGow's teammate, Suarez.
00:28:11Suarez is staying in this race.
00:28:13And this is what this guy does.
00:28:15He didn't look that great.
00:28:16Faded to the backside of the top ten.
00:28:18A lot of contact right there to the outside.
00:28:22But he stays in the battle.
00:28:24Win last week.
00:28:25Top ten end points.
00:28:27He loves some stage points here.
00:28:28And 33 laps away from getting him.
00:28:31When you think about where he was prior to the cycle, 30th in the running.
00:28:35I mean, it's just unbelievable.
00:28:37And Marty gave the report, but he's now right back in the game.
00:28:39A.J. McDowell arguing a little bit right there.
00:28:42I don't think A.J. is very happy with how McDowell ran him on the exit of turn two.
00:28:47A.J. keeps him tight here.
00:28:50About the 41 of Cole Custer behind these two.
00:28:53It's been a frustrating year for this organization.
00:28:56But here they are inside the top ten trying to make a good run here at Nashville just in front
00:29:00of him.
00:29:01That 34 of Todd Gillen also hasn't just had the year he's looking for.
00:29:04We talked about Zane Smith running great last week.
00:29:06Well, that's Todd's teammate when he sees that great run out of the 38.
00:29:10They want their kind of time in the sun.
00:29:13Front row's got a win this weekend.
00:29:14Lane Riggs got it the other night.
00:29:16Truck series event.
00:29:17Last lap pass, O'Raja Karuth.
00:29:19We congratulate him and Justin Allgaier, who won the O'Reilly Auto Park Series race here yesterday.
00:29:24Let me give you a broken record.
00:29:26Congrats, Dale.
00:29:26Great run on Saturday.
00:29:28Man, you guys are unbelievable this year.
00:29:29Let's try to keep it going.
00:29:31Win number ten.
00:29:32It's great leadership at JRM.
00:29:34Denny Hamlin trying to drive back through 13th and looking for more going middle of three wide.
00:29:42Moves you got to make is trying to drive through this field.
00:29:45Just a few laps left before the end of the stage.
00:29:50So you've got to make hay while the sun's up.
00:29:52And while the air's dirty, take advantage of people who are struggling back in this traffic.
00:29:59And the guys that know how to put their cars in the right spots to get the air they need
00:30:03to be quick and comfortable,
00:30:04those are the ones that can drive this car, this next-gen car, through this traffic the best.
00:30:09Quiet day for Todd Gibbs.
00:30:10I thought this 54 really stood out in practice.
00:30:13Now, I know a million things have happened with cautions and cycles and strategies and all that.
00:30:17But I just had, you know, a 54 just really hasn't emerged.
00:30:21Now, there's no reason for it to happen in the first half if they can get it figured out.
00:30:24We'll see if they can.
00:30:25It's still 144 to go in the entire race.
00:30:27Two good young drivers from Toyota going out there as Heim was racing with Gibbs.
00:30:33Eric Jones not going away in a 43.
00:30:36Bell's going three wide here, Steve.
00:30:40He thought about it.
00:30:42Denny's going to clear down the front straightaway.
00:30:45Bell's trying to get to the right side of this 43 car of Jones.
00:30:49Look at those closing laps a week ago.
00:30:51It was the 11 and the 20 that just couldn't get it to the outside.
00:30:54Yeah.
00:30:55Denny's going to have to get in the room.
00:30:58It's a Dollar Tree Toyota, the 43 car of Eric Jones.
00:31:01Now, here comes Heim to the inside, joining this battle.
00:31:05Four Toyotas, three different organizations.
00:31:08Joe Gibbs Racing, Legacy, and 2311.
00:31:12And all levels of strategy.
00:31:15All levels of experience.
00:31:17Playing the game here, middle stages at Nashville.
00:31:21And I love it.
00:31:21You start to see local partners on cars at 67 have Chiefs on the hood.
00:31:25Eric Church's bar down on Broadway.
00:31:27We see Tootsie's on SVG's car.
00:31:30It's great when we come to market, especially a monster market like Nashville.
00:31:33You see those bars advertising here in the races.
00:31:38I did not go do any research at Chiefs or Tootsies on this trip.
00:31:43I'm just going to clear in front of that 43.
00:31:46Eric Jones right back to the outside, though.
00:31:55Carl and Jimmy Johnson have got to be proud to see the fight in that 43 car.
00:32:01They add the speed.
00:32:03He's going to be able to try to get that track.
00:32:05It's going to be a track position game.
00:32:06The cars with that type of speed, if they can get that track position late,
00:32:10they'll get a great result.
00:32:11They're going to be able to battle up here somewhere.
00:32:13Corey LaJoy is smiling.
00:32:16And he said, my king of the track is going to be A.J. Allmendinger.
00:32:20And they're like, hey, okay, that's going out on a limb.
00:32:22That's getting gutsy.
00:32:23He wins the stage.
00:32:24And here he is running third.
00:32:26This is impressive stuff for Colleague.
00:32:29McDowell trying to get by the team A. Suarez for fourth.
00:32:33He's going to do it down here in turn three and four.
00:32:35I ran into Bill Anthony, president of Spire Motorsports, today down in the garage.
00:32:39And he talked about that big win a week ago for the seven.
00:32:41And he was quick to remind me that McDowell was one position away at the road course.
00:32:46If it wasn't for SVG, they'd have a win with all three cars.
00:32:48Then he added.
00:32:50A lot of guys can say that about SVG at the road course.
00:32:52It's just so good there.
00:32:53But now here's McDowell up inside the top five.
00:32:56This Spire team is the real deal.
00:32:58A couple wins and consistently running inside the top ten.
00:33:02McDowell ran inside the top ten last year here at this race.
00:33:05Multiple laps throughout the race.
00:33:07So no surprise.
00:33:1024 laps to go.
00:33:11Stage two.
00:33:12Blaney, Elliott, Allmendinger, Suarez.
00:33:15And he's really impressed tonight.
00:33:17But we saw this last year.
00:33:19Didn't start up toward the front of the field.
00:33:21Used some strategy to get the track position.
00:33:24But then dominated the rest of the race to the whip.
00:33:26And tonight, you know, we've talked all about how great the Toyotas are.
00:33:30Well, so far, Chevrolets have led this race.
00:33:34And now this Ford of the 12-car Blaney is leading this race as well.
00:33:38So they have brought the fight tonight.
00:33:41It's going to be tough for some of these Toyotas to be able to get up there and battle and
00:33:46take these spots away.
00:33:47Blaney has drove away from Chase Elliott.
00:33:50And Chase Elliott has quite the lead on the third-place car of A.J. Allmendinger.
00:33:55So good speed out of both those cars tonight.
00:33:58Blaney won stage two a year ago when he pulled in the victory lane.
00:34:02And a win tonight for Blaney would be victory number 750 all-time for Ford.
00:34:09So a high-water mark on the line here for the manufacturer.
00:34:12But a long way to go.
00:34:13Going to be 15 laps remaining stage two this time around.
00:34:17This onboard camera really shows the color change.
00:34:20So down the straightaway you see pretty clean concrete.
00:34:24Watch where we go down.
00:34:25Really, three and four is crazy dark.
00:34:28Down here, you know, there's a little bit right here in the middle of the corner.
00:34:31You kind of see that smeared rubber where the car really gets tight.
00:34:34That's where the front end is loaded.
00:34:36Down here in three and four, though, it just jumps right off the page for me.
00:34:45I think it's starting to take some really good rubber.
00:34:47That might be why some of these cars are starting to move up.
00:34:50Obviously, Blaney not right around the bottom.
00:34:52See the gear on the bottom left, fourth, it's up to fifth.
00:34:54Shift about every lap here in Nashville.
00:35:06It's a good little bundle of cars right here battling for eighth.
00:35:11You got Suarez in sixth, seventh, Gilliland, and then the eighth place car of Larson,
00:35:16who's got the momentum off the top of the racetrack.
00:35:19And then Christopher Bell, he just passed Brisco.
00:35:22We saw that a moment ago.
00:35:25So he's trying to grab a couple more spots right here.
00:35:28He's going to be on the inside of Larson down the front straightaway.
00:35:37A couple of dirt trackers here finding their way.
00:35:41Now the caution is out, sixth of the night.
00:35:44Oh, man.
00:35:44And problems for Allmendinger, who was third and having such a great evening.
00:35:48It's like another break issue.
00:35:53Yeah, you got fire on the right front, so get it down there and get it parked.
00:36:00Having such a great run tonight.
00:36:03Yeah, one stage one.
00:36:05He was running inside the top five here.
00:36:06Just the stage points alone were going to be a huge, huge bonus for this 16.
00:36:16See the steering wheel off.
00:36:17Winternet not down yet.
00:36:33Oh, boy.
00:36:36Man, that's tough to watch.
00:36:40Wow, what a huge impact for A.J. Allmendinger.
00:36:48Big, big hit.
00:36:52Caution comes out with 12 to go.
00:36:55Stage two.
00:36:58We heard SVG talk about his concerns when he learned of his two teammates as we see A.J. get
00:37:03out of the race car under his own power.
00:37:07I don't see anything on the radio where he references what happened.
00:37:10I'm with you, Dale.
00:37:11It looked very similar to both of the rotor failures we've seen so far.
00:37:17Kim, what are you hearing about the 16?
00:37:19Well, I talked to crew chief Trent Owens earlier in the day just about brakes and the possibility of failures,
00:37:25and he said we were concerned about overheating the brakes.
00:37:27So they did open up the brakes to have more cooling than they did in practice yesterday.
00:37:32He also told me that they had a different pad package.
00:37:36They went with the more aggressive pad package.
00:37:38So maybe those two things contributing to what we're seeing on the 16 right now.
00:37:42So SVG talked about being worried about his teammates, right?
00:37:46Oh, man, now I'm nervous.
00:37:48Everybody in the field is seeing what's going on.
00:37:51This is creeping into all the drivers' minds about, hey, hey, what's going on out there?
00:37:55Why are we seeing all of this?
00:37:56What can you tell me about my car to give me the confidence that I'm not going to have that
00:38:00same issue?
00:38:01The one thing different about this, and I think that's why he hit so hard, is this one looks a
00:38:05little later.
00:38:05So let's go back to that head-on shot.
00:38:07Remember, the others came when we thought we had onboards.
00:38:09We could still hear them on the throttle right there.
00:38:11You see the fire out the pipes.
00:38:12If we back it up a little bit from there, we keep backing up, backing up, right?
00:38:16And as it rolls forward nice and slow, you see the fire out the pipes of the car behind him.
00:38:20I think you're going to see fire out the pipes of AJ.
00:38:23Well, it's about the same time he lifts.
00:38:24I was wondering if he had lifted first or not.
00:38:26The reason I say that is because I think if you are still on the gas when the rotor fails,
00:38:32that tells me it's over-cooled.
00:38:34If he had lifted, stepped on the brake pedal, and it had failed.
00:38:37Let's listen in.
00:38:45It's hard to tell.
00:38:46The others, I thought, were clear that they were still on the gas.
00:38:48That might be a little later, so I don't know what it is as far as too warm, too cold,
00:38:53but I do believe it looks, it has every look of another failed right-front brake rotor.
00:39:08Let's get an update, Shane Van Gisbergen, Marty.
00:39:10To Junior's point about SVG maybe not being worried about the brakes earlier in the race,
00:39:16and Steven Doran said, hey, we're running a different brake pad package than our other teammates did.
00:39:21Just now, under this caution, Junior, SVG said the pedal is going long now,
00:39:26and then it completely locks the rears on entry, snapping loose handling-wise exit as well.
00:39:32But, yes, now voicing concern in that 97 camp about his brakes as well.
00:39:36Now, imagine having that going on inside the car and knowing you've got to drive this thing wide open down
00:39:46the next straightaway
00:39:46and commit to running the lap time and hoping that when you get to the end of the front stretch,
00:39:52you don't blow a rotor and go into the wall.
00:39:55That is the life of a race car driver.
00:39:59And there's nights like tonight where it will stress you out.
00:40:04And, you know, you're seeing these things happen to driver after driver.
00:40:08We went through something kind of similar years ago with the tire wars,
00:40:13and you'd see guys that go out there and run and blow right front tires,
00:40:16and you're thinking, man, I hope that doesn't happen to me.
00:40:18You know, it seems like it's almost a lottery, but it's in some of these drivers' minds,
00:40:23especially the ones that have been around these cars when they've blown those rotors.
00:40:27I mean, Michael McDowell sits right there and watches A.J. go into the wall in front of him.
00:40:31You certainly have to imagine that that's going to creep into his mind just a little bit about, you know,
00:40:36that becoming an issue that he'll have to deal with at some point.
00:40:39It's still a long way to go tonight.
00:40:41Scan the QR code to shop Logitech G's newest products and hottest deals.
00:40:47Logitech G, the official wheel and pedal of eNASCAR.
00:40:52There's some drivers that will tell you, man, I can block it out.
00:40:56It ain't going to happen to me.
00:40:57We all do that about danger and bad crashes and all that stuff.
00:41:01But, you know, part failures are a bit of a different deal.
00:41:06You know, you feel like you're in control of keeping yourself out of trouble or bad wrecks,
00:41:10but part failures are something that, as a driver, you don't feel like you've got a lot of control over.
00:41:14And as a crew chief, you have a lot of anxiety there because, you know, you and your driver,
00:41:18you're a team in this, and, you know, you don't want to have a mechanical failure.
00:41:22But like I said earlier, you know, I just want to be clear, you just can't be ultra-conservative
00:41:27because then your driver's going to lose his mind because he's going to be slow.
00:41:30Like, you just, to your point, Dale, you have to be uncomfortable with the risk you're willing to take inside
00:41:35the car.
00:41:36As a crew chief, at times, you have to be very uncomfortable with what you're trying to push these cars
00:41:40to the limit
00:41:41because it is an absolute contest of speed.
00:41:44And you have a lot of races where you hear brake vibration and brake complaints and nothing happens.
00:41:49So then you go 10 weeks with that, and then all of a sudden now we have a race where
00:41:53we are having these brake issues.
00:41:54And you're like, man, I wish I would have took those comments of practice maybe a little more seriously
00:41:58or had a different opinion on it.
00:42:00It also matters how old you are.
00:42:01A lot of the 20-year-old guys out there, they're not thinking about their brakes.
00:42:05They're just driving.
00:42:06But the guys that are like, you know, 35, 40, 45 years old, they're going, hmm, that's a pretty serious
00:42:12situation.
00:42:12I don't think I don't need to be a part of that.
00:42:15But so it affects everybody a little bit differently.
00:42:18Monster on board, Riley Herbst.
00:42:20Makes me think about that ending to stage one when 2311 got all four of their cars some stage points.
00:42:26And we're going to have a wild ending to stage two as well with a caution coming out here.
00:42:31You know, 12 laps to go and a short run to finish it.
00:42:34I think we're going to get our money's worth again.
00:42:36That's right.
00:42:37And more crazy opportunities, to your point, to try different things with tire strategy and all that.
00:42:42It's just good.
00:42:43There's so much churn with the field over strategy and what to do.
00:42:47And we're going to see that again at the end of this stage.
00:42:50Well, here we are.
00:42:51Green light is on.
00:42:52Pit road is open.
00:42:52So how do you manage this situation and then the setup for that final stage?
00:42:58Some drivers staying out.
00:42:59A lot of them coming down pit road, Kim.
00:43:01And a lot of conversation on Ryan Blaney's radio and what they thought the field was going to do, especially
00:43:06if they came.
00:43:07Ryan reporting started to build a little bit free.
00:43:09They took a keep ahead on a swivel, which makes me think that they're going to do four tires.
00:43:14And just watching for traffic on pit road, Trevor.
00:43:17Alleretic was able to move from 12th all the way up to 4th over that last run, passing the most
00:43:21cars.
00:43:22Really getting that top working, improving that out just a little bit tight up there.
00:43:25Chase Elliott happy with their last change, wants a little bit more of that.
00:43:29And Michael McDowell paddling the tight condition as well.
00:43:32He also liked moving up the racetrack and found a little speed there, guys.
00:43:36Nice handful of drivers stay on the racetrack.
00:43:38McDowell the first off.
00:43:40He goes plus two with two tires.
00:43:43Briscoe takes two as well.
00:43:45All those guys up front taking two tires.
00:43:47We'll reset the running order, get a big restart when we come back.
00:43:51Caution number six of the night for A.J. Allmendinger.
00:44:02Built for the street.
00:44:05It's going to be a fun run to the finish.
00:44:07Stage two in the Cracker Barrel 400.
00:44:10Top six stayed out.
00:44:12Next six got two tires.
00:44:14The first on four, Chase Elliott in the nine.
00:44:17He was 13th prior to the choose.
00:44:2177, the host of our has to go to the rear for over the wall too soon.
00:44:26Pit Road.
00:44:28Suarez good on those restarts late in the Coke 600 at a tire deficit.
00:44:33Hangs on, gets the win.
00:44:34When the rains come, we'll see if he can hold him off here and get a stage victory.
00:44:39Green flag will go in the air with four to go.
00:44:41At the second stage to his right is Alex Bowman.
00:44:53Stenhouse up there.
00:44:54Haven't called his name much tonight.
00:45:00Austin Sendrick trying to make something happen.
00:45:02Came into this race just below the Chase cut line.
00:45:06He could use some stage points.
00:45:09Four wide.
00:45:11Blaney.
00:45:12Chase.
00:45:14SVG a big slide.
00:45:16And a battle at the front between the 47 and the 48.
00:45:19Clean air for Suarez.
00:45:22Three to go.
00:45:23Stage two.
00:45:26Ryan Sparks doing it again.
00:45:28Magical call.
00:45:29Oh, he's got a car spinning off into the wall in the middle of the one and two.
00:45:33That's Heim in the 67.
00:45:35Gilliland and Custer involved.
00:45:37Caution number seven.
00:45:39Likely going to be the end to our second stage.
00:45:42And this will work out really, really well for Daniel Suarez.
00:45:47Yeah, it's just a 34, caught our tail, looks like on the left side.
00:45:5234, Todd Gilliland got turned around there and backed into the wall and
00:45:57looks like a little bit of damage or a good amount of damage to the nose of the 67 here.
00:46:02So three wide into the turn.
00:46:05Heim gets into the back of him pretty hard right there on entry.
00:46:10That's big contact for the right front of the 67.
00:46:12So Heim's day is going to be a struggle going forward.
00:46:17This is on board Ty Gibbs.
00:46:22They were racing around 15th when it got away from them.
00:46:24Yeah, I don't know if it was on purpose or missed the judgment, but without a doubt,
00:46:27the 67th causes the accident and kind of runs over the 34.
00:46:32I can't imagine he did it on purpose.
00:46:34Most race car drivers are good enough that if they know they're going to ship somebody
00:46:37into the corner, they don't get into the wreck themselves.
00:46:39Tells me that maybe he just got a little, just got a little stacked up there.
00:46:44Yeah, SVG on the restart.
00:46:47Dives to the inside right here.
00:46:49Pretty late makes contact with Todd.
00:46:53That had Todd kind of on a spiral to the back of the field.
00:46:57Maybe the left rear tire was down or coming or going down and the 38 was slowing down
00:47:04a little bit too soon for the entry to turn.
00:47:08Turn one.
00:47:11Trevor's found AJ Allmendinger after that crash.
00:47:13He just had.
00:47:13Let's hear from him.
00:47:15Yeah, AJ Allmendinger here with me.
00:47:17We said this only happens on days when things are going pretty good, but what did you feel?
00:47:21What do you think is contributing to these brake issues?
00:47:23Felt nothing until it exploded.
00:47:26No warning signs.
00:47:27You know, it felt like our Spire Academy, Venture HR, it was cool to bring a new sponsor in
00:47:32a NASCAR, giving them a great run.
00:47:34But yeah, brakes weren't soft or anything like that and didn't think I was overusing them.
00:47:38I think it's more horsepower, low downforce.
00:47:41I guess we're using more brake than in the past, but yeah, it sucks.
00:47:45We're having a good day.
00:47:47Thanks, AJ.
00:47:51AJ just confirmed, you know, more horsepower means you accelerate more.
00:47:54The low downforce is one thing, but what comes with that is low drag.
00:47:58So what it means is there's just not a lot of aero kind of braking.
00:48:01When you lift, the car really wants to roll off into the corner, so you have to use the
00:48:04brakes more.
00:48:07And I just think ahead, St. Louis.
00:48:09I mean, there's some tracks that have been, that I would say this is on the list, but
00:48:15St. Louis is probably the top of the tracks that have brake issues.
00:48:19St. Louis is much worse.
00:48:21Teams will all be studying and trying to science out what they need to not have this issue
00:48:26continue at that particular racetrack.
00:48:30Caution number seven does end the stage.
00:48:32Suarez gets the green and white checkered flag, his first stage victory in a couple of
00:48:37years.
00:48:38Bowman, Stenhouse, Cendrick, Hamlin all getting points.
00:48:40And when you look at the cycle and where everybody is and when they made their last pit stop,
00:48:45the guy that's going to be in a really good spot here, I think, Denny Hamlin, who started
00:48:49on the pole and has gradually worked his way back to the front.
00:48:53Entertaining stage one and stage two.
00:48:56Final stage on the way.
00:48:58We're live in Nashville.
00:49:00It's NASCAR on Prime.
00:49:03Glad you're with us.
00:49:09Him's health care designed for you and delivered to your door.
00:49:14And by Logitech G, official wheel and pedal of e-NASCAR.
00:49:21Getting ready for the final stage, Nashville Super Speedway.
00:49:26And we've had a lot of action on track tonight.
00:49:38We were wondering if the 34 maybe had a tire going down.
00:49:41It seems to me that 67 just overcommitted to the corner.
00:49:45Let's listen to the radio.
00:49:53That's Corey Heim just saying a big mistake on his part.
00:49:57Obviously, he's going to have to find Todd this week.
00:50:00He's going to be in this series for a long time.
00:50:02Those two youngsters are going to race each other at lawn.
00:50:04So those things end up happening.
00:50:06Kim.
00:50:07And for Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., the complaint all night has been no rear grip.
00:50:11Front plowing every time they've come down to adjust.
00:50:13Still hasn't alleviated the problem for fresh Goodyear tires.
00:50:16Snowboat fuel.
00:50:17Trevor.
00:50:19Alex Bowman in that 48.
00:50:21He's got a little strategy to get those stage points.
00:50:23Coming in for four tires now, though.
00:50:24That earlier strategy has already paid off, Marty.
00:50:27Boy, some much-needed stage points for Austin Sendrick,
00:50:30who fell out of a chase spot for the first time in four weeks after Charlotte.
00:50:34Daniel Suarez, what a call.
00:50:36And I know you gave Adam credit to Ryan Sparks.
00:50:39That was Daniel Suarez's call to be able to stay out there
00:50:42and get those stage points by winning the stage.
00:50:45They are going to take a long time here, Steve.
00:50:47Suarez very worried about his brakes.
00:50:49In fact, he said, I'm nervous about the brakes.
00:50:52And Ryan Sparks said to him, Steve, I can't over-cool the rotors,
00:50:55but I can help you and try and cool the calipers a little bit.
00:51:00We've got a record number of lead changes here tonight.
00:51:04Our most recent.
00:51:05Here it's all about concrete.
00:51:06We see a lot of cautions.
00:51:08And tonight, guys, a lot of carnage.
00:51:10The cup garage, a lot of torn-up parts just to our left.
00:51:13I said, Corey, what's that smell?
00:51:15He said, that is burnt carbon fiber.
00:51:18Why so much chaos tonight?
00:51:19Well, we've got brake debacles we've got, tired, different strategies.
00:51:25I just love, I just love seeing a guy from New Zealand driving a Tootsie's car
00:51:30at Nashville Super Speedway running to the top five in Shane Van Gisburg.
00:51:34And fire me up, Mark Martin.
00:51:36Man, we've got accidents, too.
00:51:38You know, some restarts and untimely cautions,
00:51:43trapping cars lapsed down, you know, behind and having to take the wave around.
00:51:47So, you know, there's all kinds of action going on out there.
00:51:50Oh, and we've already have set a record number of passes tonight, Adam.
00:51:55A record number of lead changes here entering the final stage.
00:51:58It's been a fun night.
00:51:59And we've got some good stuff coming.
00:52:01Just over 100 laps to go.
00:52:03Final stage, front row.
00:52:05Denny Hamlin, Michael McDowell.
00:52:14One car in the apron back there making moves.
00:52:16So, I had a little giggle because it was a 77 of Josevar.
00:52:19Not a big shocker.
00:52:20You've got to be aggressive.
00:52:22Right on cue.
00:52:23I love it.
00:52:23Look, if you're a fan, this is a guy you can cheer for
00:52:26because he's on the go pedal all the time.
00:52:30Three wide.
00:52:32Herbst in the middle.
00:52:33Outside Zane Smith.
00:52:3577 making it work.
00:52:37Oh, the four of Gregson up the racetrack.
00:52:39Boy, he hangs on to it.
00:52:40Whoa, the second of Greg Zalowski.
00:52:43The two of Cedric is real.
00:52:45Three just wrecked you on purpose.
00:52:46He's mad from earlier.
00:52:46Caution number eight.
00:52:48Two forwards taken out in this one.
00:52:50Brad Keselowski and Austin Cedric.
00:53:00Corey and Mark just talking about...
00:53:02Three just wrecked you on purpose.
00:53:04He's mad from earlier.
00:53:06There we go.
00:53:08TJ Major's a spotter for Brad.
00:53:11No, it wasn't our fault.
00:53:14I can't wait to see a replay.
00:53:18We'll let you know.
00:53:20Curiosity is building here.
00:53:22We'll determine who's at fault here.
00:53:24So the four gets shoved up the racetrack by the 47 there.
00:53:27Big chain of events there.
00:53:29So the three...
00:53:31I think the six lifted to get in behind the ten.
00:53:33That the three runs over him accidentally.
00:53:36And kind of similar to what happened to the three.
00:53:39He gets out of gas and Busher runs over him accidentally.
00:53:41So just all these cars getting stacked up.
00:53:45And Brad gets out of the gas because of the contact with the ten.
00:53:47Brad's like, all right, let's just all get through this.
00:53:50But the three run over him.
00:53:52I don't think it was intentional.
00:53:53Two outside.
00:53:54Two still fiddle.
00:53:55Two outside.
00:53:55Watch his contact with the ten.
00:53:57He's coming down the grass here.
00:53:59He's trying to get out of that situation.
00:54:02He's mad from earlier.
00:54:10I mean, look at Brad Keselowski and Sendrick.
00:54:13And both of them, you know, just playing right around that chase cut line.
00:54:17Sendrick came in below but was gaining ground with Preece out of the race.
00:54:21Keselowski came in just outside the top ten but showing 13th as they run on track.
00:54:32Gosh, that's pretty hard contact right there for Brad into the side of the two, gets whipped around.
00:54:38Listen to this.
00:54:40Line him up top.
00:54:45He's at the gas.
00:54:47I don't know if that's an intentional deal.
00:54:49I agree.
00:54:50I know it looks intentional.
00:54:52It looks avoidable.
00:54:53But I don't know that it was truly him going after Brad, trying to wreck him.
00:54:59I don't think he would have been out of the gas.
00:55:00I think he could have just stayed in the gas and accomplished the same thing.
00:55:13Depending on which driver's t-shirt you've bought will probably tell you which opinion.
00:55:17And that's totally fair, but I'm with you, Dale.
00:55:19Or which radio you're listening to.
00:55:20Yeah, you know, I think it's – these are the days.
00:55:28Jimmy Johnson, I thought, put it so well when he voiced over the chase piece in that pre-race
00:55:34about what it is with the pressure.
00:55:36And I – mark my words.
00:55:39These are the days you are going to remember a few months from now.
00:55:43When you look back, you're going to think that day we were having at Nashville
00:55:45where we got up in the wreck.
00:55:46And we haven't seen – this is the regular season.
00:55:49A lot of these drivers have no idea what it feels like.
00:55:53Dale, you and I have done it.
00:55:54When you get to the chase and you know you have 70 days, you have 10 weeks,
00:55:59every lap, every point, every stage, there's no reputs, you know, there's no resets,
00:56:04there's no freebies.
00:56:06It's everything.
00:56:07The pressure in the chase, I feel, is going to be higher than the old playoff format.
00:56:11These drivers know everything matters.
00:56:13Let's hear the three and what he says.
00:56:16He hung a hard lap.
00:56:17It's pretty obvious.
00:56:18It's the hope that they see it.
00:56:19He's flat out dumped us.
00:56:21He's mad at us for what the 47 did, but I hope he gets a week off.
00:56:25I'm sorry.
00:56:25That was the 6 radio.
00:56:26That was – that was TJ politicking.
00:56:30Yeah, I know they're – they're upset and they feel like that that was intentional,
00:56:33but I don't know that they'll win the argument with all the evidence I've seen.
00:56:42I don't think you've done discussing that one this week.
00:56:44Yeah.
00:56:44No, me and TJ will talk about it on the download Tuesday.
00:56:47We'll put – we'll put TJ to task to make his case.
00:57:01We'll put – we'll put – we'll put – we'll put a lot of debate about this one.
00:57:45I stand with your original thought, though, Dale.
00:57:46When I look at Briscoe, he's still 15th.
00:57:49He hasn't gained as far as positions go, but he's really gained when you look at points
00:57:54in relation to those around him.
00:57:57And you have Lugano in 18th right there.
00:57:59He's running 21st.
00:58:00Can they come up with something to grab some spots tonight like they do from time to time
00:58:06to get himself a top 10 and close the gap a little bit?
00:58:10And if you look over on the right side, it gives you a little bit of a cheat sheet
00:58:14of what the reset will look like.
00:58:17And we've kind of drawn an imaginary line below 6th.
00:58:21Yep.
00:58:21Because all those guys are going to be within 50 points of the leader at the reset.
00:58:26And we feel like mathematically, and if you run all the simulations, that's the sweet spot
00:58:31on those that really have an opportunity.
00:58:33As Steve said, over 70 days, those 10 weeks to go out and make something happen.
00:58:38Yeah, look, if you have a Tony Stewart chase, you're going to win five races.
00:58:42Jimmy Johnson for 2007 chase, I think you can win it from way down the standings.
00:58:48But I'm listing perhaps the two most impressive runs ever in that format, right?
00:58:53It's going to have to be a monumental thing.
00:58:55If you want to just talk about being good or a little bit better than your opponents,
00:58:59I agree with you that top five is the sweet spot.
00:59:02Now, if you're going to be radic and win, like, say, five of the first seven races,
00:59:05you probably could get it done from anywhere.
00:59:11There's three or four drivers.
00:59:13When you look at that track line up in those last 10 weeks where you can say,
00:59:16that's a guy that could get on a heater and really make it happen.
00:59:20But mathematically, if you're outside the top five or six, it will be a challenge.
00:59:24And I look at the running order tonight.
00:59:27There have been so many ebbs and flows in this race.
00:59:30But here we are, you know, just over 100 laps to go.
00:59:34Hamlin is back in the race lead controlling the event.
00:59:37Briscoe is there.
00:59:38Bell is there.
00:59:39So we've got the representation from Joe Gibbs racing.
00:59:42McDowell has slid in.
00:59:43Chase Elliott in the game.
00:59:44Tyler Reddick.
00:59:45It's been a very interesting night.
00:59:47It's very similar to the race we saw last year.
00:59:49A lot of, you know, 11 and 19 battling for the lead.
00:59:52And now that they have control of the front of this field,
00:59:57it's important that they keep it.
00:59:58And it appears that if you let Blaney out front
01:00:02or if you let Larson out front, they're hard to beat.
01:00:07Whoever can control, whoever can keep the control of this race
01:00:10and keep that first position really has a big advantage.
01:00:16Let's do our FanDuel race check.
01:00:17Look at the numbers, Steve.
01:00:19Well, current leader, not the favorite.
01:00:22Bell is the favorite.
01:00:23A little over three and a half times your money.
01:00:25So if you think Bell back there in fourth is in a great position,
01:00:29FanDuel will agree with you.
01:00:30Then you have Hamlin, Chase Elliott, Tyler Reddick, Kyle Larson.
01:00:32And I will just point out that if you like to, you know, make a gamble,
01:00:37there's some names up there that aren't even in that top five, right?
01:00:40A Blaney or a Busher or a Jones.
01:00:42But it makes sense to me.
01:00:44I have to agree.
01:00:45I think Bell and Hamlin should be the favorites.
01:00:47Marty?
01:00:47Steve, do we know if Junior officially doubled the purse for Denny Hamlin?
01:00:51Because now it is officially last to first for Denny Hamlin.
01:00:55He's been really happy with the handling of the race car in the 11.
01:00:58Can they pull off the win after, you know, getting the restart
01:01:01or the start of the race wrong from the pole position?
01:01:04But I know why FanDuel might have Christopher Bell
01:01:07sitting in fourth in the better position
01:01:08because they are in a better fuel position
01:01:11than their teammate Denny Hamlin.
01:01:13They had him wait on pit road on that last stop.
01:01:16Adam Stevens had hold, wait for me.
01:01:18Made sure they got the 20 full.
01:01:19The 11 did not get full.
01:01:21It's a slight fuel advantage for Christopher Bell.
01:01:24He's all had a quick car as well, equal with his teammate Denny Hamlin.
01:01:28Adam Stevens, Christopher Bell, so good as we talked earlier last week
01:01:33in the Coke 600 of managing the strategy,
01:01:36maybe getting a little bit out of balance with some of the other teams.
01:01:39And as Marty talks about there, playing a little fuel strategy game tonight
01:01:42to set them up for success down the stretch.
01:01:45Well, so let's just lay out what we have in front of us, right?
01:01:47We're 102 to go.
01:01:48Let's call it 100 to go when we take the green.
01:01:49They can run 75-ish to 80 on fuel.
01:01:53I don't know if you can run 80 on tires.
01:01:56So now the real question is, if we don't see a yellow win, you pit.
01:01:59How you manage a screen flag pit stop
01:02:01and what balance you have to have with your race car as the track cools.
01:02:05Sprisco.
01:02:07Hey, Sprisco trying really hard to get a good launch there.
01:02:10Does a great job.
01:02:12Nose-to-nose off into turn one.
01:02:16Boy, Reddick, strong charge in that inside lane.
01:02:19There, jolts around the top.
01:02:21Grabbed a bunch of spots down the back straightaway.
01:02:25Brisco hanging outside lane.
01:02:28Hamlin squirts through.
01:02:30Then he slides up.
01:02:31Yes, he does.
01:02:3211 on point.
01:02:37Four wide back in the pack.
01:02:48McDowell getting it done.
01:02:49I mean, we talked about the run-run finish at Watkins Glen.
01:02:53Wasn't bad after some challenges last Sunday in the Coke 600.
01:02:57And here he is fourth inside of 100 to go at Nashville
01:03:00and sliding up in front of Reddick.
01:03:03And as he does that, door opens for the nine
01:03:05to Chase Elliott down low.
01:03:07Never really seen Chase Elliott up toward the front.
01:03:10This is an opportunity for him to grab a couple spots if he can.
01:03:20Oh, car's on the wall.
01:03:2223 at Bubba Wallace comes down.
01:03:24Clips a 48.
01:03:25Oh, we're destroyed.
01:03:27Destroys the right rear of the 48 at Bowman.
01:03:31Byron was near all that as well.
01:03:33Yep.
01:03:34Looks like they all got into the corner
01:03:36and got a little bit of contact.
01:03:38I got two brakes, dog.
01:03:39There we go.
01:03:4123.
01:03:42Looks like having some brake issues as well.
01:03:44Sorry, brother.
01:03:45Appreciate your place.
01:03:47Maybe once he had the contact with the outside wall,
01:03:50he wasn't able to slow the car down.
01:03:51No brakes to be able to avoid what happens here.
01:03:54So let's see.
01:03:57Bubba 15th here.
01:04:00Oh, the 17 gets out of shape up the racetrack.
01:04:04Bubba is now out of brakes.
01:04:06So that's why he can't slow the car down
01:04:08from coming down the track for that contact bearer.
