00:00Listen, when you talk about what we talked about last segment, right, you know, obviously, you know, with A.J.
00:08Mitchell and Jalen Williams being out, being guys that can create off the bounce and they create what we call
00:14defensive pressure, right?
00:17Especially a guy like Jalen Williams, who will drive the ball to the basket and really have no fear for
00:23Victor Webinyama. So now you take away two guys that can't create shots. And now when you have just SGA
00:34with obviously Webinyama underneath the basket guard in Hartenstein, now you can stay closer to the shooters and just let
00:41Fox or Harper or Weber, you know, Vassell, whoever's guarding SGA that possession.
00:47Try and funnel him to the basket, knowing that he's going to take a tough, you know, 17 footer because
00:54you're going to, you're going to stay close to all of the shooters.
00:59So what do you do in a coach situation when it happens? You have to either get, create, guys have
01:07to create off the bounce, which is not their game, or do you change your approach?
01:12And here it is. I think the other Jalen Williams has to play a critical moment in this series tonight.
01:22Here's why. If you put Jalen Williams in the game and he's going to be guarded by Wemby and he
01:29knocks down one or two threes.
01:32Now, if you're Mitch Johnson, you have to bring Wemby outside to the perimeter. So what does that do? Now
01:41that gets SJ to driving lanes to get all the way to the basket.
01:45But now, because Wemby's out on the drives, if you think he's going to the basket, now you got to
01:52load up and help. And now what we call, Mike Brown uses the term spray it.
01:56So now if you get the ball into the paint and guys collapse, because Wemby's not there to protect the
02:01rim, then you can start spraying the ball and finding yourself, kick out three, kick out one more.
02:09We call it one more where you drive it, hit it, they rotate, pass one more shot. So to me,
02:15and Mark, Kevin and I were talking about this, I made this point.
02:18Everybody sits here and talks about how great Mark Dagonal is. Let's have an honest conversation for a second.
02:24If Tyrese Halliburton doesn't tear his Achilles in game seven, who do you think is actually winning that game?
02:31I don't know if it was Oklahoma City. Let's be honest. And Mark Dagonal sometimes is a little slow, or
02:38I wasn't slow, late to making adjustments.
02:41If I see it early that SJ can't get to the cup and we can't knock down shots, I'm sitting
02:48Hartenstein.
02:49I'm putting Jalen Williams in. I'm going to try and go pick or pop, bang a three or two.
02:54Make Wimby come out and then create the driving lanes for SGA with the ability to then kick out for
02:59the shooters, who then should be more wide open.
03:02So there's so much there that I agree with, and I find myself to be watching these games feeling like
03:15Chet Holmgren's agent or Chet Holmgren's PR team.
03:19But after listening to Coach, I know I'm not crazy.
03:25Because JY is absolutely right to talk about pulling Wimby away from the basket.
03:32It's why, and I know Minnesota obviously did not win that series, but it is why the Wolves started to
03:37play Rudy Gobert less and less against the Spurs.
03:42Because it allows Wimby to sit in the paint and just deter everything.
03:49Guys, Chet Holmgren is the perfect pick-and-pop big.
03:54Perfect.
03:55You can certainly play him next to J-Dub, obviously, right?
03:59Or you can just play small.
04:02Guys, look at the lineup the Spurs most often is running, right?
04:05It's Castle, it's Wimby, it's Vassell, it's Champagny, and then it's Fox or Harper.
04:12You can match that with Shea, Caruso, Wallace, Dort, and Chet.
04:19Nobody is outmanned or outgunned.
04:23And the person you would be most concerned about, probably, in their head-to-head matchup is Chet Holmgren.
04:31Here is the thing that is driving me insane, and I want everybody to remember what Coach just said.
04:37Basically, if Chet offensively's only job is to pull Wimby away, it's a job well done, okay?
04:45So, offensively, we're good to go.
04:49Mark Dagnall still doesn't realize that Chet is the best defensive answer for Wimby, and it is blowing my mind.
04:57It is actually breaking my brain to watch this.
05:01He somehow thinks that they're better off with Isaiah Hartenstein, who is hopeless on the perimeter and the interior,
05:13because Vic is too skilled, too quick, too tall, too everything.
05:18I know Chet loses this matchup.
05:22Guys, I've seen it throughout these six games.
05:26Defensively is where Chet is more comfortable.
05:29He didn't luck into a second-place finish in Defensive Player of the Year.
