00:00When Victor Webinyama begins the Western Conference Finals in your building with 41 and 24
00:10and steals the opening game of the series,
00:14hits the 30-footer to send it to double overtime, scores nine in that second overtime,
00:22it really starts to change the calculations
00:26because it lets us know just exactly who Victor Webinyama is capable of being.
00:34However, this is where, and I've told people this a lot,
00:38I know it's, you could argue, not great for content.
00:40You could certainly say it's maybe a bit cowardice,
00:43but I like to do rankings when the season is over
00:47because when you do rankings at the end of every game,
00:51you get real over-reactionary.
00:55Victor Webinyama becoming the best player in the world is inevitable.
01:01And I think he now pretty comfortably holds,
01:04possesses the highest ceiling,
01:08like single game ceiling of any player in the league
01:12because nobody can do what he can do defensively
01:14and he can hit offensive heights with some of the best guys in the sport.
01:19For Victor Webinyama, though, there is still a level of consistency, okay,
01:27that you are going to have to be able to bring to the table.
01:32And I think one of the things that jumps out a little bit,
01:36and I know it's jumped out to coach,
01:38and it's not an attack on Victor Webinyama,
01:42but he played 49 minutes in game number one,
01:44by far the most in his NBA career.
01:46He's followed that up with 37 and 39 minutes in the next two games,
01:50and there are moments where it doesn't feel like Wemby can put his full imprint
01:57on the basketball game
02:00because this is the most taxing run of his basketball life.
02:04So I said very recently I thought Wemby would be the consensus best player in the world
02:11midway through next season.
02:13He might be the consensus best player in the world right now.
02:19I still think, coach, he has a lot in front of him
02:24to finish this series as the best player in the series
02:30because I think Shea is playing at a pretty high level right now.
02:36And he is.
02:36And I think, Kevin, I think what people have to realize is
02:43getting into the playoffs and getting this deep in the playoffs his first year,
02:47he's at, what, probably almost 90 games,
02:52maybe 90 because he missed some time during the year,
02:54but he's probably about 85 to 88 games played.
03:00That's a lot.
03:02And it's taxing.
03:03And there's not a lot of rest.
03:05If you just look at, you know,
03:07the last two games that he played versus Minnesota,
03:1233 and 27 minutes.
03:15So now you go 49, one day off, 37,
03:20travel one day off, 39.
03:24That's a lot.
03:25And that's something that, Kevin, you just can't be prepared for
03:31because very rarely, Kevin, do you play three games and five nights, right?
03:38In regards to, not just three games and five nights,
03:41but playoff intensity versus the best team in the league.
03:46So now it's, you know, how do you spell him?
03:50How do you protect him?
03:52So where do you see Wemby losing it is how he plays, right?
04:01Now, you know, I remember he had a long, I mean,
04:04a deep three second quarter on Chad Holcomb or Hart and Son.
04:08It had to be about 28 feet out.
04:10And I was like, whoa.
04:12And there's a coach.
04:12I'm like, I don't know if he's got energy.
04:15Like he's going outside because he may not have it
04:18because one of his frame and two going inside getting beat up
04:22and three, it's just a lot of wear and tear on his body.
04:27So then it gets me to, if I'm now a GM moving forward,
04:35what do the Spurs, what is their last piece?
04:41They need a center.
04:43Wemby's not a center.
04:45I've come off of this now.
04:46He's a power forward.
04:47He doesn't have the physical dealing with someone inside.
04:52He needs a big bodied rebounding, shot blocking center at the rim
04:59that allows him to be that weak side rebounder, weak side shot blocker.
05:05And I'm going to bring up two guys that I really feel like
05:10if the Spurs ever got these guys to play 25 minutes a night, lights out.
05:17One of them you're not going to get is Steven Adams because of his contract.
05:22And the interesting one is Mitchell Robinson.
05:26He needs a protector.
05:29One of them getting 24 rebounds, fantastic.
05:33Love it.
05:34But at the end of the day, he's probably with a big bodied center,
05:39a 10 to 11 rebounding guy at night that can score the ball
05:44and can have someone take some of that pressure off him, after him,
05:49and be a physical presence to help him out.
05:52Let's go.
05:52Let's go.
