00:00A major forum was held in China with, together, countries from the Global South
00:05to seek greater joint coordination in the fight against poverty
00:10with the participation of dozens of governments from around the world.
00:14From our Beijing, our correspondent Bruno Fauci brings us more details in the following report. Let's see.
00:20At the Beijing International Convention Centre,
00:23the Global Poverty Reduction and Development Forum was held and promoted by China,
00:28bringing together more than 50 countries.
00:30The meeting aimed to strengthen the fight against poverty
00:34through the exchange of public policy, financing and cooperation projects.
00:40Robert Walker, an academic from Oxford University, was present and explained to us
00:46how China managed to eradicate poverty in 2021.
00:51The components of China's model for eradicating poverty
00:54are built upon an economic policy, built upon a political structure and built upon political will.
01:01All of those three things are needed and they're not difficult to replicate.
01:07Politics. China can sustain a strategy over a considerable period of time.
01:15It has a collaborative process of democracy rather than a competitive process of democracy,
01:23which means that parties work together over sustained periods of time.
01:27So you can set a target many years in advance and guarantee to achieve it.
01:32The forum also included international organizations, including entities from the United Nations system
01:39and multilateral development banks.
01:41Among them was the support mechanism of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty.
01:47Its director, Renato Godinho, explained its structure and main objectives.
01:54The support mechanism of the Global Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty
01:59was an initiative spearheaded by President Lula in Brazil and launched to the Brazil's G20 Presidency in November 2014.
02:08The initiative went beyond the G20 countries and today brings together more than 250 members, including 107 countries,
02:17as well as international organizations and multilateral banks.
02:21Its objective, its online efforts, reduce the fragmentation of international cooperation and support countries seeking implement large-scale programs against
02:30hunger and poverty.
02:32Delegations from Latin America and the Caribbean were also present at the forum.
02:37The participation of Marta Carvajalino, Colombia's Minister of Agriculture, was noteworthy.
02:44She spoke at the opening and participated in discussions.
02:47In an interview with Telesur, she indicated that her agenda includes meetings with the Chinese government to strengthen agriculture exchange,
02:57following up on President Petro's visit, which incorporated the country into the Belt and Road Initiative.
03:07What we're doing here is demonstrating that social cooperation and the possibility of meeting within different frameworks of multilateralism makes
03:13perfect sense.
03:13We develop agriculture markets, and through this, contribute to a process that threatens farming families who were the land.
03:19Given Colombia the opportunity to advance the Ukraine reform initiated by President Gustavo Petro,
03:23the largest agrarian reform in our country's history, one that seeks justice, consolidates peace, and I believe a common goal
03:30to confront the climate crisis.
03:33Over decades, through process such as agrarian reform and five-year plans, the Chinese Communist Party has lifted more than
03:42800 million people out of poverty,
03:45becoming a global leader in poverty eradication.
03:48Now it seeks to share this experience with other countries.
