00:06has spent the last few days analysing this new variant.
00:11There's no evidence that it causes more severe illness or higher mortality,
00:17but it does appear to be passed on significantly more easily.
00:23NERVTAG's early analysis suggests the new variant could increase the R by 0.4 or more,
00:31and although there's considerable uncertainty,
00:34it may be up to 70% more transmissible than the old variant, the original version of the disease.
