09:01Let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go.
09:15Let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go.
09:45in with the other people and not somebody else's oh dear yeah one of them but my sister fell in
09:56my
09:57arms and we tried to figure out a way to deal with this I said I got a melody and
10:02so we played
10:02it on the piano and my sister said well what are we going to call it and I said what
10:07do you think
10:08she said how about somebody else's guy and I said okay I love that being your response look
10:14we've been caught out in a very awkward situation and what do we do go to the piano yes yes
10:19that's
10:19the great thing about music isn't it isn't it you can retreat into it a healer for sure now
10:24congratulations because you've recently had a huge special show at the Hackney Empire celebrating your
10:29work over the decades for those of us that weren't there what would we have seen well you were seeing
10:35us a little bit of gospel you know a little bit of soul and you were seeing folks acting up
10:40and
10:40having a good time and crying and saying thank you you know which was impressive and over just
10:47overjoying for me so you never know who appreciates you until you get into that environment and I got
10:54to see the environment and walked into the theater and was that oh my god how many people were there
11:00to give me respect and I loved it yeah I'm appreciative people love you where does music
11:06start for you at home my grandmother was a teacher of at the family gospel music and which we all
11:13say
11:13as a family unit and from that point on my aunt Barbara who's Barbara Roy from SC passion and pain
11:20she helped me to get into the position of doing background singing and from that point on it just God
11:27was just good
11:27and he just knew what he was doing and who was your favorite gospel singer oh there was quite a
11:31few of them you
11:32know but of course we had people like Aretha Franklin was outrageous you know there was people like
11:40the five blind boys of Mississippi they were rough you know and we had people like Sam cook who was
11:48outrageous as well
11:49oh my god you want me to do a little bit there just a little remind us what Sam cook's
11:58gospel just a little bit right
12:02I was born by the river in a little tent whoa and that by the river I've been running
12:15ever since it's been a long a long time coming but I know a change gonna come oh yes it
12:32will
12:35it's been too hard living but I'm afraid to die I don't know what's up there beyond the sky it's
12:54been a long
12:57long a long time coming but I know a change gonna come oh yes it will
13:19that was beautiful
13:25that was beautiful
13:29well starting in gospel music which you sang for a long time but then you were
13:33actually in one of the discotheque queens of New York in the 1980s now I remember going to New York
13:41York for the first time in my life in the early 1980s, and it was like Rome before it fell.
13:47I've never seen anything like it. What was a disco scene like in the early 80s when you were there?
13:52Well, it was a change of people's minds about how music was, and R&B was not the real kick,
13:59because that's what R&B was with the Temptations and the Supremes and all that. It went into another
14:08thing, went into a dance mode where folks had to find pleasure in dealing with their feet and getting
14:15rid of overpowering possessions and powering situations that they couldn't get rid of unless
14:22they let go, and letting go was getting out there on that dance floor. So New York had a big
14:28habit,
14:28Studio 54, all night long, you know, and it was a situation where folks really enjoyed understanding
14:36what disco music was. But it's fantastic having you guys. You've got a load of shows coming out
14:40over the summer, the festivals and everything. Yes, the summertime. It's a wonderful time for you.
14:46Thank you so much for joining us. Jocelyn Brown. Thank you, baby.
14:54Thank you. Jocelyn Brown.
15:03And now I'm delighted to welcome back to the show, the remarkable voice, and now band, of Siku.
15:25It's 2 a.m. and I'm waiting up for you
15:30If I want trouble, you're really not hard to find
15:35Regret picked in for the moment I called you
15:39You really got me breaking every simple rule of mine
15:44The sound of your voice got me caving in
15:48So why am I having to wait?
15:52You're such a dangerous lover
15:56You're such a dangerous lover
16:01I say goodbye, then you come over
16:05You're so dangerous, dangerous
16:07I can't get over you
16:13Can't get over you
16:17I'm right back in your, I'm right back in your mood
16:22Yeah, I can't get over you
16:25No, no, cause you're so dangerous, dangerous
16:31Another weekend that you end up on my mind
16:36My heart knows the truth, but my body keeps falling alive
16:41And you wanna come out and play
16:43Always crummin' when you say my name
16:46Got you addicted to getting away
16:49Hey
16:51Your hands on my neck, we keep raising
16:53Yeah
16:55Cause you got me feelin' away
16:57You're such a dangerous lover
17:01You're such a dangerous lover
17:06I say goodbye, then you come over
17:10You're so dangerous, dangerous
17:13I can't get over you
17:18Can't get over you, yeah
17:23I can't get over you, I'm right back in your mood
17:26I'm right back in your mood
17:28I'm right back in your room, yeah
18:02No, no
18:07You're so dangerous, dangerous
18:10I've been waiting for you
18:14Take it over, take it over
18:20I'll fight back in your
18:23I'll fight back in your
18:28You're so dangerous
18:30You're so dangerous, dangerous
18:32CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
18:39Dangerous Lover, thank you. Seekoo.
18:42CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
18:45Now, Stephanie, beautifully backing vocal there as well.
18:48The whole band, lovely. Let's hear it once again for Seekoo, yes.
18:51Lovely band.
18:52CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
18:54And now, a beautiful, contrasting moment
18:57because we have a Grammy-winning country artist
19:00whose new album, Wilde, pulls together 15 years of dazzling songwriting.
19:06Please welcome Ashley McBride.
19:08CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
19:16From the taste of things
19:20Must have been Marlboro Reds
19:23From the shape I'm in
19:26Must have barely made it to the bed
19:30There wasn't a good time poured over ice and sip it slow
19:38For the bottle tells me so
19:45If I can find my phone, I bet I need to apologize
19:52The only problem is
19:54The only problem is
19:55I can't remember to who or why
19:59Whatever day it is
20:01It's gonna be a long one, I know
20:06For the bottle tells me so
20:12One of us
20:15One of us is gonna break one of these days
20:19If this ain't bottom, it's as far down as I ever wanna go
20:26The party's over and as always
20:30I'm the last one to know
20:33For the bottle tells me so
20:41I tried counting rounds
20:44I tried cutting back
20:47I tried changing kinds
20:51So many times that I lost track
20:54And all this need to want to go into's getting old
21:02For the bottle tells me so
21:09One of us is gonna break one of these days
21:16If this ain't bottom, it's as far down as I ever wanna go
21:23The party's over and as always
21:28I'm the last one to know
21:30For the bottle tells me so
21:54Neither one of us got this empty on our own
22:02For the bottle tells me so
22:09The bottle tells me so
22:30Thank you Ashley McBride
22:37Let me take you over into this corner and we're gonna meet a remarkable group of artists from Manchester and
22:43Paris
22:44Please welcome Mandy, Indiana
22:46CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
22:49Thank you
22:49Thank you
23:27Great
23:28Thank you
23:28Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
29:13And one of the most notable requests is we cut the song Nightlife, which was the Willie Nelson classic, and
29:21we pitched it to Paul Rogers.
29:23And he came back and said, yes, I'd like to do it, but I want to do the Blues is
29:26King version, which is this kind of very famous stripped down version from, I believe, 1966.
29:31So Josh Smith and the band went in and we, you know, they cut a version that sounded more like
29:38the 1966 version.
29:40He got it.
29:41He sang great and just nailed it.
29:45And it was it was it was that kind of it was that kind of thing where we weren't trying
29:50to do sound alikes.
29:52We were just trying to do it in the right spirit and for the love of B.B. King and
29:57his massive and incredible catalog of songs.
30:01You know, well, he for me, he was the blues.
30:03He was the epitome of the blues, which was this spirit that was large and it was big and it
30:08was sort of it was grown up.
30:09You know, one of the few artists that you could really say that define the genre of music in which
30:16he lived and flourished.
30:18And you could say that about Willie Nelson, you know, you could have said that about Ozzy Osbourne and and
30:23B.B. was the blues.
30:25He was the king of the blues.
30:26Yes, there's so many great blues artists from Albert King, Freddie King, all the Kings and and Muddy Waters and
30:32all that.
30:32But, you know, when when his his, you know, emcee introduced him, ladies and gentlemen, the king of the blues,
30:38B.B. King, you believed it.
30:40And he walked out there and he had the goods and he could back it up.
30:44He came on our Hootenanny, I think, in 1997 and played with my big band.
30:49And when he walked in to the studio, all of the band stood up and all of the film crew
30:55applauded him.
30:57Yeah. And I've never known that with anybody else before.
30:59Didn't ask for it. And maybe he and he was very nice about it.
31:02Thanks very much. And maybe he thought we did it to everybody.
31:05They've never done it to anybody before or since.
31:07We've got a little bit of footage which we're going to show, which is him on the Hootenanny,
31:11doing one of the songs that you do with him, which is Let the Good Times Roll.
31:13I don't care if you're younger. Get together after a good time.
31:47Thank you. The wonderful B.B. King. And Joe, what are we going to play of B.B. King's at
31:51the end?
31:52We're going to play a Will Jennings and Joe Sample tune called Never Make Your Move Too Soon.
31:57And Will was a friend of mine. I wrote a bunch of songs with him.
32:00And this is one of B.B.'s, probably one of his more famous songs of the 80s.
32:05And you're gracious enough to sit in on it. It's going to be great.
32:08It's an honour for me in playing tribute to B.B., which we'll look forward to later on.
32:11So thank you very much, Joe Bonamassa.
32:13Thank you. And B.B. King.
32:15Thank you, Joe. Absolutely. What a great man. What a great player.
32:20And now, let's go to this corner.
32:22An amazing producer, Grammy winner and great British talent
32:25with the title track from his top three album, Trying Times.
32:29Please welcome back, James Blake.
32:52You know, I'm shredded by the time I'm home
33:19I'm a nice soul, you're a sight for.
33:27You're the life force, oh right
33:34You're the life force, you're the life force
33:42I would die for
33:48I would die for
33:55Stay alive for
34:01Stay alive for
34:02As we go through trying times
34:17As we go, as we go, as we go through trying times
34:31I'm breaking, I hide it well
34:37As I can't fall to replace the shell
34:45And the anxious end up alone
34:50As there are far too many things we can't control
34:59I'm a nice soul, you're a nice soul, you're a sight for
35:26I would die for
35:30I would die for
35:34Be terrified for
35:41Simplified for
35:47Stay alive for
35:49Stay alive for
35:59As we go through trying in time
36:09As we go
36:12As we go
36:14As we go
36:18Through trying in time
36:22Trying
36:26Trying
36:36Trying
36:37Trying
36:40Trying

37:50Well, I ain't falling for no pick-up line.
37:55I don't care about no dollar sign.
38:00I need someone that can treat me right.
38:04Even though you're looking good tonight.
38:10Well, cause I've been tempted and I've been drinking, but this ain't real.
38:15So we ain't laying up.
38:17Might be fun, but that just ain't enough.

38:44And you're looking for what I'm done.

38:47Cause I won't want you.
38:50Cause I won't be catching bodies cause of you.

39:16But that's only for my right on now.
39:20Even though, baby, I've been tempted, I've been drinking.

39:28But I've just hated them, all right
