01:05I'm Michael Cole, and on this edition, we're looking back at WrestleMania matches from one
01:09of the most consequential decades in WWE history, the 2000s.
01:14As WWE was heading into the new millennium, two of its grandest stars would lead the charge.

01:25I got one reason, and one reason only to go inside that ring, and that is to beat Stone Cold

01:37Over 67,000 passionate fans would fill the Houston Astrodome at WrestleMania 17
01:43to witness this iconic matchup.

01:54The atmosphere in the arena at WrestleMania 17 was through the roof.
02:00It was important to me that I was the one leading the pack.
02:06And Steve Austin sure as hell didn't want to be second.

02:14These two just got it on in the most personal of title matches that I have ever witnessed.

02:33because it was damn near 50-50 throughout the whole thing.

05:00but awaiting her was a rivalry unlike anything the WWE Universe had ever seen before.

05:10Newly debuting superstar Mickie James, who's a self-proclaimed Trish Stratus superfan.
05:16But her obsession became too much for the queen of stratus-faction to handle.

05:24He's a little overzealous sometimes with her passion.
05:27When her idol rejected her, James was absolutely furious.

05:32In a rage, fueled the confrontation between them that culminated the show of shows.
05:38WrestleMania 22.
05:41The following contest is for the WWE Women's Championship.
05:47Superfan that becomes the worst enemy.
05:50And at WrestleMania, it came to fruition.
05:54Trish has been in the ring with the greatest competitors in the WWE,
05:58but no one as unpredictable as Mickie James.
06:02It was real emotion.
06:03People really felt one way or the other,
06:05to the point where some people were cheering me,
06:07which was, what is happening here?
06:09A lot of these fans are actually identifying with Mickie James.
06:13That's the only reason I bought that mania that year.
06:16As a young boy wanting to see the culmination
06:19of this wrestling story between these two women,
06:22I feel like that's a great thing in the evolution of women's wrestling.

06:34To have a WrestleMania moment,
06:37to have a WrestleMania match,
06:38we're pretty much at the highest point we've been
06:40for the women in our company.
06:42It's one of those matches that you look at and you go,
06:44wow, let's go.
06:46Mickie James has won the women's title!
06:51The Dudleys, the Hardys, and Edge and Christian
06:54never disappointed the WWE Universe
06:57when pitted against each other.
06:58And when the stakes were raised,
07:00so was the energy.
07:01What the heck?
07:02As these six superstars were set to compete
07:05in a triangle ladder match.
07:07With the tag team championships hanging high above the ring,
07:11the three hottest tag teams of the era
07:13would step foot on the grandest stage of them all.
07:15What followed would alter the landscape
07:18with WWE forever.
07:23This should be an amazing offensive display.
07:27You can expect some high-risk maneuvers like we've never seen before!
07:31It's competitive.
07:32Everybody's pushing each other to have the best match of the night.

07:37This is some unbelievable innovation with these three ladders now in the ring.
07:43The Hardys and Edge and Christian had already done the ladder match,
07:47so we wanted to introduce the other aspects using the tables.

07:58All that stuff's so memorable because we were the first ones to do it.

08:07It's a very insane risk-versus-reward scenario,
08:12but for the most part, there was no hesitation.

08:56For over a decade and a half, The Undertaker was a dominant force.
09:00He'd achieve nearly everything a WWE superstar could ever dream of.
09:04In 2007, The Deadman would win his first Royal Rumble match.

09:12It didn't take long for the Phenom to defiantly choose a shot at Batista's WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

09:45To go in such a huge match, it ended up being really special because it's a world title match.

10:10I felt like I was doing things instinctively and without thought.
10:14I felt like I held my own with Undertaker when we gave the crowd the match of the night.

10:48It was clear from day one that Randy Orton was a special talent.
10:53Transforming from an eager rookie into a brash superstar.
10:57Orton quickly made a name for himself by targeting WWE legends, including the dead man, The Undertaker.
11:04At WrestleMania 21, the legend of The Undertaker will become a myth.

12:112006 saw Rey Mysterio overcome every odd and win the Royal Rumble from the number two spot.

12:23Mysterio knew he only had one thing left to do.

12:28I hope I make you even more proud when I go on to WrestleMania and win the World Heavyweight Championship!
12:38Rey was determined to win the world title in memory of his best friend Eddie Guerrero, who passed away a
12:44few months prior.
12:45And to do so, the legendary Luchador was faced with a near impossible task.
12:49Taking on both Kurt Angle and Randy Orton in a triple threat match for the World Heavyweight Championship.
12:56It is one of the most emotional matches I've ever had the honor of calling.
13:04The following contest is a triple threat match scheduled for one fall.
13:10And it is for the World Heavyweight Championship!

13:19And a tribute to Eddie, he saw me from the heavens.

14:28Arguably the greatest of all time, Ric Flair had an in-ring career that spanned over 30

14:352008, the Nature Boy was reaching the end of the line as a WWE superstar.

14:44Flair was more resilient than ever, issuing a challenge to Shawn Michaels.
14:48It would be my honor to wrestle you at WrestleMania.
14:52One night, after being immortalized in the WWE Hall of Fame, Flair was face-to-face with

16:14As the decades pass, WWE sees new faces that capture the attention of the WWE Universe

16:23In the early 2000s, The Rock was just that face.
16:26But the Brahma Bull wasn't the first to have the WWE Universe in the palm of his hand.
16:32That honor went to the immortal Hulk Hogan.
16:36The Hulkster had recently made his return to WWE as part of the villainous New World Order.
16:41How do you feel about headlining one more Wrestlemania with The Rock?

17:05Once that happened, I knew, I knew the match was going to work.

17:50People were really just engrossed in the match like I've never seen before.

18:02What that meant to me, I'm grateful to Hulk.
18:08This match lived up to the hype.
18:10It didn't live up to it, it far surpassed it.
18:15It's now time for our number one moment.
18:17And it's the one that is widely considered the greatest WrestleMania match of all time.
18:22The Undertaker's undefeated streak at WrestleMania was one of the most impressive feats a superstar has ever achieved.

18:40At WrestleMania 25, the Dead Man's challenger was none other than Mr. WrestleMania himself.

18:53HBK would attempt slaying the streak in a match that literally saw heaven and hell colliding.
