00:00111. In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
00:06112. Praise be to God who revealed the Book to His servant and did not make him a slave.
00:18113. He warned of a severe punishment from Him and gave good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a good reward.
00:37114. Abiding therein forever
00:42115. And warn those who say, “God has taken a son.”
00:49116. They have no knowledge of it, nor did their forefathers. Grave is the word that comes out of their mouths; they speak nothing but lies.
01:09117. Perhaps you would destroy yourself with grief over their footsteps if they do not believe in this message.
01:22118. Indeed, We have made that which is on the earth an adornment for it, that We may test them [as to] which of them is best in conduct.
01:34119. And We will surely make what is on it a barren wasteland.
01:42110. Or do you think that the companions of the cave and the inscription were among Our wondrous signs?
01:53111. When the first of the young men went to the cave, they said, “Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance.”
02:11112. So We struck their ears in the cave for a number of years.
02:20113. Then We sent them forth to see which of the two groups was more precise in calculating the time they had remained [there].
02:31114. We relate to you their story in truth. They were youths who believed in their Lord, and We increased them in guidance.
02:47115. And We strengthened their hearts when they stood up and said, “Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. We will never invoke any deity besides Him.”
03:11116. We have indeed spoken an exaggeration.
03:17117. These are our people who have taken gods besides Him.
03:28117. Why do they not bring against them a clear authority?
03:35118. And who is more unjust than one who invents a lie about God?
03:43119. And when you have withdrawn from them and that which they worship other than God, then retreat to the cave; your Lord will spread out for you His mercy.
04:09119. And He will provide for you a means of support in your affairs.
04:15110. And you see the sun when it rises, they turn away from their cave to the right.
04:25111. And when the sun sets, the north wind draws them near, while they are in a gap therein.
04:33112. That is one of the signs of God. He whom God guides is truly guided.
04:44113. And whoever He leads astray, you will not find for him a guiding protector.
04:52114. You would think them to be strong, but they are stagnant.
04:58115. And We turned them to the right and to the left.
05:05116. And their dog stretched out its forelegs at the entrance.
05:12117. If you had looked at them, you would have turned away from them in flight and been filled with terror of them.
05:23118. And thus We sent them forth to question one another.
05:31119. One of them said, “How long have you stayed [here]?”
05:37110. They said, “We stayed a day or part of a day.”
05:43111. They said, “Your Lord knows best how long you remained [there].”
05:48111. So send one of you to the city.
05:57112. Let him consider which of them has the purest food.
06:07113. Let him bring you provision from him.
06:12114. Let them seize you and let no one be aware of you.
06:18115. If they gain the upper hand over you, they will either subdue you or force you back into their religion, and you will never succeed then.
06:35116. And thus We made them known so that they might know that God’s promise is true and that there is no doubt about the Hour.
06:51117. When they disputed among themselves about their affair, they said, “Build a structure over them.” Their Lord knows best about them.
07:04118. Those who prevailed in their affair said, “We will surely build a mosque over them.”
07:16119. They will say, “They were three, the fourth being their dog,” and they will say, “They were five, the sixth being their dog,” guessing at the unseen.
07:31110. And they say, "Seven, and their dog was the eighth." Say, "My Lord knows best their number. None knows them except a few."
07:49111. Do not argue with them except in a clear and obvious manner, and do not seek a legal opinion from any of them concerning them.
08:02112. And never say of anything, "I will do that tomorrow."
08:12113. Except as God wills. And remember your Lord when you forget and say, "Perhaps my Lord will guide me to something nearer than this to right conduct."
08:32114. And they remained in their cave for three hundred years and added nine.
08:42115. Say, "God knows best how long they remained. To Him belongs the unseen [knowledge] of the heavens and the earth."
08:52116. He sees and hears
08:56117. They have no protector besides Him, nor does He associate anyone in His rule.
09:08117. Recite what has been revealed to you of the Book of your Lord. There is no changing His words, and you will not find a refuge besides Him.
09:25118. And keep yourself patient with those who call upon their Lord morning and evening, seeking His countenance.
09:38119. And do not let your eyes turn away from them, desiring the adornments of this worldly life.
09:46110. And do not obey one whose heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance and who has followed his desire and whose affair has become excessive.
09:59111. And say, "The truth is from your Lord, so whoever wills - let him believe; and whoever wills - let him disbelieve."
10:13112. Indeed, We have prepared for the wrongdoers a Fire whose walls will surround them.
10:24113. And if they cry for help, they will be given water like molten metal, which scalds their faces.
10:35114. What a wretched drink and what a terrible resting place!
10:41115. Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds - We will not allow to be lost the reward of anyone who does good.
10:54116. Those will have Gardens of Eden beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will be adorned with bracelets
11:09117. They will be adorned therein with bracelets of gold and will wear green garments of fine silk and brocade.
11:26118. They will be clothed in green garments of fine silk and brocade, reclining on couches.
11:42119. Yes, the reward is good and a blessing.
11:48110. And present to them an example of two men: We granted to one of them two gardens of grapevines, and We surrounded them with palm trees and placed between them crops
12:06111. Both gardens yielded their produce and did not fall short in any way.
12:16112. And We caused a river to gush forth between them.
12:21113. He had fruit, and he said to his companion, as he was conversing with him, “I am greater than you in wealth and mightier in followers.”
12:36114. And he entered his garden while he was unjust to himself. He said, “I do not think that this will ever perish.”
12:52115. I do not think the Hour will come, and even if I am returned to my Lord, I will surely find a better place of return than this.
13:10116. His companion said to him, while conversing with him, “Have you disbelieved in the One who created you?”
13:21117. Have you disbelieved in the One who created you from dust, then from a sperm-drop, then fashioned you into a man?
13:35118. But God is my Lord, and I do not associate anyone with my Lord.
13:45119. And why, when you entered your garden, did you not say, “What God wills [will come to pass]; there is no power except with God”?
13:59119. If you see me as less than you in wealth and children
14:07110. Perhaps my Lord will give me something better than your garden and send down upon it a calamity from the sky, so that it becomes a barren wasteland.
14:26111. Or its water will sink deep into the earth, and you will not be able to find it.
14:37112. And his fruit was surrounded, so he began to turn over his heaps because of what he had spent on them, and they were desolate.
14:51113. On their thrones, and he says, "Oh, if only I were
15:07114. And he will say, "Oh, I wish I had not associated anyone with my Lord!"
15:16115. He had no group to help him besides God, and he could not be victorious.
15:29116. There is sovereignty for God, the Truth, who is the best in reward and the best in outcome.
15:42117. And present to them the example of the life of this world: it is like when We send it down from the sky, and the vegetation of the earth mingles with it and it becomes dry remnants.
16:01118. And God was All-Powerful over everything.
16:15119. Wealth and children are the adornment of this worldly life.
16:22110. And the enduring good deeds are better in the sight of your Lord in reward and better in hope.
16:33111. And on the Day We will move the mountains and you will see the earth laid bare, and We will gather them all together, leaving none of them behind.
16:46112. And they will be presented before your Lord in rows. You have certainly come to Us just as We created you the first time. But you have insisted that We will never make an appointment for you.
17:05113. And the record will be placed, and you will see the criminals fearful of what is in it, and they will say, "Woe to us! What is this record that leaves nothing small or great unrecorded?"
17:31Count them
17:34114. And they found what they had done present.
17:39115. And your Lord does not wrong anyone.
17:44116. And when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," they prostrated, except for Iblis, who was of the jinn and disobeyed the command of his Lord.
18:01117. Will you then take him and his offspring as allies instead of Me while they are enemies to you?
18:14118. What a wretched exchange for the wrongdoers!
18:18119. I did not make them witnesses to the creation of the heavens and the earth, nor to the creation of themselves, and you would not have taken the misleaders as servants.
18:35119. And on the Day He will say, “Call upon My partners whom you supported,” and they will call upon them, but they will not respond to them, and We will place between them a barrier.
18:52110. And the criminals saw the Fire and thought they were going to fall into it, and they found no way to escape from it.
19:07111. And We have certainly diversified in this Qur'an for the people every kind of example.
19:17112. And man was the most contentious of creatures.
19:24113. And nothing prevented the people from believing when guidance came to them and from seeking forgiveness from their Lord except that the precedent of the former peoples should befall them.
19:44114. Or the punishment will come upon them first.
19:57115. And We do not send the messengers except as bringers of good tidings and warners.
20:05115. And those who disbelieve argue with falsehood to refute the truth, and they take My verses and what they were warned of as a mockery.
20:22116. And who is more unjust than one who is reminded of the verses of his Lord but turns away from them and forgets what his hands have put forth?
20:35117. Indeed, We have placed coverings over their hearts, preventing them from understanding it, and deafness in their ears.
20:49118. And if you call them to guidance, they will never be guided.
20:58119. And your Lord is the Forgiving, the Merciful
21:03110. If He were to punish them for what they have earned, He would hasten their punishment.
21:11111. But they have an appointed time beyond which they will find no refuge.
21:20112. And those were the towns We destroyed when they wronged [themselves], and We appointed for their destruction a time.
21:32113. And Moses said to his servant, “I will not cease until I reach the junction of the two seas or continue for ages.”
21:47114. When they reached the junction between them, they forgot their fish, and it made its way into the sea, running a tunnel.
22:00115. When they had passed beyond it, he said to his servant, “Bring us our lunch; we have certainly suffered much fatigue in this journey of ours.”
22:15116. He said, “Do you remember when we took refuge by the rock? I forgot the fish.”
22:26117. For I forgot the fish, and none but Satan made me forget to mention it.
22:38118. And he took his way into the sea in a wondrous manner.
22:43119. He said, “That is what we were seeking.”
22:48110. He followed their footsteps in stories
22:55111. And they found one of Our servants to whom We had granted mercy from Us and whom We had taught knowledge from Our very Presence.
23:11112. Moses said to him, “May I follow you so that you may teach me some of the sound knowledge you have been given?”
23:23113. He said, “You will not be able to have patience with me.”
23:31114. And how can you be patient with what you do not comprehend?
23:38115. He said, "You will find me, God willing, patient and I will not disobey any of your commands."
23:50115. He said, “If you follow me, do not ask me about anything until I tell you about it.”
24:04116. So they set out, and when they had boarded the ship, he made a hole in it.
24:14117. He said, “Did you make a hole in it to drown its people? You have certainly done a grave thing.”
24:23118. He said, “Did I not tell you that you would not be able to have patience with me?”
24:31119. He said, “Do not hold me accountable for what I forgot, nor make my matter difficult for me.”
24:41119. So they set out until they met a boy and killed him. He said, “Have you killed an innocent soul for no reason?”
24:58110. He said, “Have you killed an innocent soul without just cause? You have certainly done a terrible thing.”
25:10111. He said, “Did I not tell you that you would not be able to have patience with me?”
25:19112. He said, “If I ask you about anything after this, then do not keep my company. I have already given you my full permission.”
25:34111. So they set out, until they came to the people of a village and asked them for food, but they refused to offer them hospitality.
25:52112. But they refused to host them. Then they found a wall there about to collapse, and he repaired it.
26:07113. He said, "If I wished, I could have taken payment for it."
26:13114. He said, “This is the parting between me and you. I will inform you of the interpretation of that which you could not bear patiently.”
26:26115. As for the ship, it belonged to poor people who worked at sea.
26:37116. So I wanted to damage it, for behind them was a king who seized every ship by force.
26:51117. As for the boy, his parents were believers.
26:59118. We feared that they would be overwhelmed by transgression and disbelief.
27:06119. So we intended that their Lord should substitute for them one better than him in purity and nearer to mercy.
27:20110. Now the wall belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and under it was a treasure belonging to them.
27:33111. And beneath it was a treasure belonging to them, and their father was righteous, so your Lord intended that they should reach maturity.
27:49112. And He will extract their treasure as a mercy from your Lord. And I did not do it of my own accord. That is the interpretation of that for which you could not bear patience.
28:16113. And they ask you about Dhul-Qarnayn. Say, "I will recite to you about him a mention."
28:26114. Indeed, We established him in the land and gave him access to everything.
28:38115. So he followed a reason
28:41116. Until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and he found a people there
28:56117. We said, "O Dhul-Qarnayn, either you punish them or you treat them with kindness."
29:11118. He said, “As for those who do wrong, We will punish them, then they will be returned to their Lord, and He will punish them with a severe punishment.”
29:26119. As for those who believe and do righteous deeds, they will have a good reward, and We will speak to them with ease from Our command.
29:42110. Then he followed a reason
29:47111. Until, when he reached the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had not made any shelter from it.
30:02112. Likewise, we have been fully informed of what he possesses.
30:09113. Then he followed a reason
30:13114. Until, when he reached the area between the two mountains, he found beyond them a people who could hardly understand a word.
30:27115. They said, “O Dhul-Qarnayn, indeed Gog and Magog are corruptors in the land. So shall we assign you a tribute on condition that you make a barrier between us and them?”
30:47Dam
30:48116. He said, “What my Lord has enabled me to do is better, so help me with strength, and I will make between you and them a barrier.”
31:03117. Bring me pieces of iron, until, when he has leveled them between the two mountain sides, he says, "Blow [with bellows]."
31:16118. Even when he had made it fire, he said, “Bring me molten copper to pour over it.”
31:28119. So they were unable to make it visible, nor were they able to penetrate it.
31:37110. He said, “This is a mercy from my Lord.”
31:43111. So when the promise of my Lord comes to pass, He will level it to the ground. And the promise of my Lord is ever true.
31:56111. And We left some of them that day surging against one another and dying in the trumpet, then We gathered them all together.
32:09112. And We will present Hell on that Day to the disbelievers, all of them.
32:17113. Those whose eyes were veiled from my remembrance, and who could not hear
32:31114. Do those who disbelieve think that they can take My servants as allies besides Me?
32:44115. Indeed, We have prepared Hell as an abode for the disbelievers.
32:55116. Say, "Shall we inform you of those who will be the greatest losers in their deeds?"
33:02117. Those whose efforts have been wasted in this worldly life, while they thought that they were doing good.
33:15118. Those who disbelieve in the signs of their Lord and their meeting with Him
33:25119. So their deeds will be rendered worthless, and We will not assign them any weight on the Day of Resurrection.
33:33111. That is their recompense: Hell, because they disbelieved and took My verses and My messengers in mockery.
33:47112. Those who believe and do righteous deeds will have the Gardens of Paradise.
34:00113. They will abide therein eternally, never desiring to leave it.
34:06114. Say, "If the sea were ink for [writing] the words of my Lord, the sea would be exhausted before the words of my Lord were exhausted, even if We brought the like of it as a supplement."
34:24115. Say, "I am only a man like you, to whom it has been revealed that your God is but one God."
34:39116. So whoever desires to meet his Lord, let him do righteous work and not associate anyone in the worship of his Lord.
34:56117. Translated by Nancy Qanqar
