00:30Yeah, it's nice to be back in Paris. I feel like the year passed very quickly, but it's an amazing
00:37feeling to be back at a Grand Slam, and yeah, very grateful to be here. After the past couple months
00:43that I've had, I wasn't sure, and I think I'm feeling good about how I'm approaching each day and working,
00:49so yeah, just happy to be here.
00:53Hey, Emma. It's the first time we've seen you since you've been appointed to Andrew Richardson again. Why him again
00:58now? And tell us about what you hope he will bring.
01:01Yeah, I think he's someone who I've known for a very long time, over a decade, and we have a
01:07great chemistry, I think, coach-player relationship, and that was evident every time we worked together.
01:14So I think after I had a break because I got sick, I wanted to come back in a really
01:23authentic way, and yeah, reached out, didn't necessarily know where it was going or how it was going to come
01:29about, and everything happened very quickly.
01:31He was still at the academy, and they were very accommodating in the sense when I went to train there,
01:38and also him being able to start so soon.
01:42So it happened very quickly, but yeah, just very happy to have him back.
01:48What's the commitment going forward of Andrew? Is it the entire year? Is he happy to travel? And just talk
01:54about how you reached out. Was it a phone call, or did you just drop into Spain one day and
01:58pop into the academy?
02:01So we're working together for the rest of the year, which is a good thing. I think consistency is needed,
02:09and I think regardless of the results, I want to for sure just commit and give everything I can, and
02:16I think it's been working so far really well since I started returning to training.
02:20And yeah, it was a, we stayed in touch, but it was just a text, and I was like, hey,
02:27and I was like, when you get a text from me with like, hey, with like three Ys, just like,
02:31no, something's cooking.
02:33So it was one of those, but then it was really nice. We were able to catch up on a
02:38bit of lost time, and yeah, it was just a good chat, and then we very quickly got on call.
02:49And obviously lots of people kind of have lots of opinions about your coaching situation and have done over many
02:55years. I just wonder, in hindsight, do you think maybe you should have stuck with Andrew after the U.S.
03:01Open?
03:01And do you think, feel like maybe it was a mistake now looking back?
03:05I mean, I think at that time it was very difficult to say I made a mistake because in my
03:13life everything changed upside down, and I didn't really think I had the most handle over the situation in the
03:22sense that I was being poor left, right.
03:25I didn't really know what was going on, and I think everything also happened very quickly then.
03:30I think what it taught me was a lot of experiences over the last few years.
03:35It taught me a lot of what I didn't want, and it taught me that I really just value having
03:41people that I trust and connect with around me.
03:43So it's really nice to have that feeling back.
03:46All right, there's your mind.
03:47Yeah, thanks.
03:48Hey, Emma.
03:49Your colleagues right now are protesting the tournament by reducing their media commitments, not speaking to rights holders.
03:55I'm just curious what you make of it and just the general kind of push for more kind of prize
04:01money and that kind of thing.
04:02I mean, I mean, why wouldn't I want to be talking to you guys for more than 15 minutes?
04:09Like, I don't understand.
04:10So for me, it's part of what we do.
04:14I understand, of course, the position of the players compared to the other sports.
04:18The percentage is lower, but I've just been focused on trying to get myself back at a level, operating well.
04:26And for me, it's also playing a Grand Slam isn't necessarily just about, you know, the money.
04:31I think it's a lot more about the prestige.
04:33It's a lot about the history, and that's what I value the most.
04:36So, yeah, I'm just grateful to be at another slam.
04:41Hi, Emma.
04:41You mentioned about the chemistry with Andrew.
04:44Just wondered sort of what that is like, why you think you click.
04:47Is that a kind of personal thing?
04:48Is that how he is on the court?
04:52Yeah, I think, well, as you will know, you probably just naturally forge easier bonds with certain people over others.
05:00And I think the fact also that he's known me since I was very young, and I know that he's
05:05always ever just wanted the best for me.
05:07And when you have known someone also before I had any success, it does make a little bit of a
05:14difference, too.
05:15But as a coach, I think he really, he believes in me, and he's someone who doesn't necessarily get wavered
05:23or put off by results.
05:25He's very consistent, very solid, just like we work, we do our best, we try again, we find out iteration
05:32by iteration.
05:33And I think that is something that I could really use because I'm naturally more emotional in the sense that
05:40I want things to happen quickly.
05:42So I think having him just steady, you know, keep going day after day is really good for me.
05:49Okay, so I'm in.
05:51And then Yasmin.
05:52Hi, Emma.
05:53What's he, I mean, you can't miss him when you look at a tennis court, but what's he like as
05:57a coach?
05:59Obviously not too detailed, but what's he like in that role?
06:02Yeah, I think he, he's a great coach in the sense that, you know, he's, he doesn't necessarily need to
06:10speak all the time, but when he speaks, it's pretty impactful.
06:14And, you know, I think he's on one hand, relatively soft spoken, but he also has like a very fiery
06:21side to him, which I really enjoy and gets fired up.
06:24And I really build off that too.
06:25And I think that the chemistry we have between each other, we kind of bounce off each other.
06:31And then, of course, like, I think he also emphasizes the fundamentals really well and using the full body to
06:39play the shots and playing tennis and constantly bringing intensity to the practices, you know, like not just warming up
06:45and hitting like every practice, every ball has a purpose.
06:48So just good habits all the time.
06:50Building good habits is probably, yeah, the biggest thing that we try and do every day.
06:57Hi, Emma.
06:58Earlier this year, I know you said that you didn't want to rush into finding another coach and especially given
07:03what you've said about after that US Open and you kind of getting pulled every which way.
07:06How important was it for you to make this decision to bring Andrew back for yourself and on your own
07:12terms and sort of block out the noise of what people thought about that relationship before?
07:15Yeah, I mean, I think when it when it was kind of developing, of course, in the back of my
07:23mind, like I'm aware of the judgment that could potentially follow.
07:27And did she make a mistake like did she regret it and all these questions that are being asked.
07:32But I think that I really wanted to just make the decisions for myself and most authentically.
07:41And it really just came from a deeper place.
07:44So I'm really happy that I followed through with it and didn't necessarily get swayed by any opinions or judgments,
07:51which is also why I actually kept it very quiet.
07:54And when it was happening, I didn't really tell anyone, you know, what I was cooking up until it was
07:58done.
07:59So that that was one of the reasons why.
08:03But I'm really glad I made this decision for myself.
08:06And in general, I think the people I have around me right now are amazing.
08:09Like the team, I really feel like we're very like minded and connected.
08:15And yeah, just genuine.
08:17OK, Tom, can you just talk again?
08:19Right. How are you feeling health wise at the moment after what happened in Rome?
08:23And I guess you've only still had one match back.
08:25So are you feeling like you're over your past everything now and you're fully healthy or are there still things
08:30you're working through?
08:31I feel a lot better.
08:32I thought I've completely flipped it.
08:35I think there's just been a little bit of a lingering cough recently.
08:38Like I can say it because it is what it is.
08:41But I feel health wise really good.
08:44I think ebbs and flows with it, but much better in terms of physically.
08:49I played a really positive match last week in Strasbourg and in the sense it was over two hours.
08:54And I think physically I pulled up pretty well from it.
08:57So, yeah, I'm happy to take that and build from it.
09:01OK.
09:03Yeah, just what do you make of your your draw, Emma?
09:08Obviously somebody who knows their way around a clay court very well.
09:11Yeah, no, for sure.
09:13They don't like clay courts in Argentina.
09:15So, no, she's a great player.
09:18Had had a good run last year at Wimbledon, too.
09:21It's going to be a really tricky first round, especially coming in light on matches.
09:26But I'm just proud of how I'm approaching every day.
09:29I'm proud of the work I'm putting in.
09:31And I know I'm going to have to play really good tennis and be aggressive.
09:34I feel like the conditions are pretty lively so far in the practice days as the weather is hot.
09:40But I think that could be a good thing.
09:43And, yeah, I want to just go out there and try and play on my terms as much as I
09:47can.
09:48All right.
09:49One more.
09:49Jermione, last one.
09:52On a completely different subject.
09:53I'm writing a piece about AI in tennis.
09:56And I'm curious, how much do you use AI in your general life?
09:59Yeah, I use chat a lot.
10:01Like, every small thing I do.
10:04And actually, I got this idea.
10:06So, you know how Spotify do.
10:08I have Spotify wrapped.
10:09I asked ChatGPT to make me a chat wrapped.
10:15And it was literally giving me a rundown on my personality.
10:18And I was like, it's a little bit too accurate.
10:20So, it was, like, very clear, very concise.
10:24Yeah, no nonsense.
10:25Like, straight into the questions.
10:26I was like, okay, I can relate maybe.
10:29It's not true.
10:29What kind of questions have you been asking yet?
10:32Ah, it's as random as my brain.
10:35It's, like, one minute.
10:36It's, like, history.
10:37One minute's art.
10:37One minute's, like, some random facts.
10:40One minute's translation.
10:42So, different questions.
