00:30So, yeah, I'm definitely very proud of the effort, of my effort, and, yeah, just super happy with the win,
00:37of course.
00:38Thank you. Raising the hand for questions, can you please, Ava, instead of you?
00:43Congratulations, Maya. I'm just wondering what it was like hearing all of the crowd support today and how much that
00:48meant to you.
00:49Yeah, I mean, I was surprised, and, I mean, great moment for me, you know.
00:55I really appreciate it, and I'm grateful for it.
00:59But, yeah, I definitely feel like the crowd helped me a lot and gave me a lot of energy today.
01:05Congrats, Maya. I sort of thought to say I noticed a tattoo on your left hand. I think it said
01:09three.
01:10Yeah.
01:11Can you just tell us a little bit about that, what it means and why you got it done?
01:14I mean, I will keep it to myself, you guys.
01:19Yeah, you can make your own stories.
01:22Can you tell us a bit more, when you got it done and why?
01:25Yeah, I have a couple of tattoos. I have a tiny ones.
01:29So, it's not very visible, I would say.
01:32Yeah, I mean, this one, I feel like three years ago, maybe.
01:39Yeah, you said after the previous match that you couldn't process yet.
01:46What was happening?
01:48Maybe that's a technique that you're just blocking it out until the end of the tournament.
01:53So, is that still the same? How are you feeling now?
01:58Yeah, for sure. I mean, I feel like I'm in the bubble, I would say.
02:04I don't know what's going on. I'm just very happy to be here.
02:09Yeah, I just try to focus on every single match, give my all, you know.
02:14And then after the tournament, there will be time to kind of process it
02:19and breathe in, breathe out, you know.
02:22Yeah.
02:23You started this tournament with a big win over Zhang Chinwen,
02:26who's a great player and, you know, kept beating good players along the way.
02:30So, I'm just wondering how much higher your confidence and your belief
02:33in your game are now than they were two weeks ago.
02:38And obviously, you haven't found any sort of limit to your potential yet.
02:42I mean, it definitely raised.
02:45But, you know, I didn't have many experiences, many opportunities before
02:49to play against such great players and high-ranked players, you know.
02:55So, it's actually the first time that I have this opportunity.
02:59I'm happy that I'm taking it.
03:01Now, I know that my ranking will allow me to play more in the highest tournaments,
03:08you know, ranked tournaments.
03:09So, yeah, I guess we'll see how I'll continue.
03:13But for now, I'm just, you know, trying to focus on just one more match.
03:20Well done.
03:21You spoke on court about feeling pretty tired after that win.
03:24I'm sure it's taken a lot out of you emotionally, physically.
03:27How will you recharge tomorrow to get ready for Saturday's final?
03:30I'm going to repeat myself.
03:33But I'm going to sleep and I'm going to drink my tea and I'm going to watch something good,
03:38maybe some tennis a bit because I'm a tennis freak a bit.
03:41Yeah, and that's it.
03:45Just to follow up on that, can you give us an insight?
03:47You've played nine matches here in about three weeks.
03:49Can you give us an insight into the superstitions, the things you're eating at the same restaurants,
03:54you know, eating the same food, listening to the same music?
03:56What are you doing?
03:57Yeah, I'm not a very superstitious person, I would say, but my coaches are.
04:02So they're eating, they eat pizza every day, like every day.
04:07And we are three weeks here.
04:09So, I mean, we're going to gain so much weight, you guys.
04:14It's going to be terrible.
04:16But, I mean, if I want to, I can't, you know, say no.
04:21Maybe it helps.
04:22I don't know.
04:23Sorry?
04:24Oh, I don't know.
04:25I'm not going there with them, you know.
04:27I don't eat pizza at all, so.
04:29Hi, Maya.
04:30Congratulations.
04:31I wanted to ask about, I guess, they kind of go hand-to-hand about your court coverage.
04:34And then sometimes when you're on the baseline and your opponent's at the net or has, like,
04:38what would appear to be an easy smash, you kind of predict where the ball goes very well.
04:43I'm curious, I guess, A, how do you think your court coverage has evolved?
04:46And then, B, are you kind of studying your opponent's tendencies in that front?
04:49Or do you think it's, like, luck, I guess?
04:52I feel like it's a few things.
04:55I think, first, I definitely study my opponents.
04:59I try to.
05:01The second thing, I think it's natural.
05:05Yeah.
05:05And the other thing is, I think, that watching tennis, like, I love watching tennis.
05:11And when I was younger, I watched tennis, like, all day, every day.
05:16So I feel like it really helps me with, like, reading the game better.
05:22Craig, if you could take your mind back to the match point, the forehand winner down the line.
05:30And you dropped to the court.
05:34Are you able to express what that feeling was like, what you were feeling, what were the emotions,
05:40what was going through your head, and the fact you're also going to be right around top 20 now from
05:47the way you started with the tournament?
05:50Well, I honestly don't know what was going on in my head.
05:53I was just in such a shock, you know, just, I don't know, joy, surprise, so many emotions, you know.
06:04So I was just very, I feel, like, overwhelmed also.
06:09So, Matt.
06:11Hi, Maya, well done.
06:13I'm assuming you've never played in front of 15,000 people like that before this week, correct, right?
06:22Yeah, probably.
06:23Right, okay, in big stadiums.
06:25So I'm just, can you explain what the adjustment has been like to playing in front of a massive crowd,
06:32dealing with the noise, using the crowd, or are you just sort of winging it
06:38and improvising, and was there any preparation from going from, like, really small environments
06:44with not people paying much attention to this massive spectacle?
06:48Well, not really.
06:50I feel like I always really enjoyed playing in front of people.
06:54Even on the, like, the ITF circuit, you know, I always enjoyed tournaments where people were interested.
07:05I feel like it's just, tennis is more enjoyable than, like, you can share the emotions with people,
07:12you know, you can see, like, the reactions.
07:16Yeah.
07:16Yeah, so I always, I always enjoyed when there were people around, you know, watching.
07:23And the amount of people didn't, like, do you?
07:26I mean, not really.
07:27They were supporting me a lot today, and they gave me so much, like, good emotions and energy.
07:33So, I think they helped me a lot.
07:38Hey, Maya, congrats.
07:40You said you're a tennis freak.
07:42I guess you're not alone with that in the room here.
07:45So, I wonder, like, what you love so much about tennis.
07:49Who were your idols growing up?
07:51Who you like to watch nowadays?
07:53Like, tell us a little bit about your tennis weakness.
07:55Well, so I was Roger's number one fan.
08:01Like, when I started playing tennis, it was all about Roger.
08:05And then Rafa, and then Novak.
08:07So, now I'm, like, you know, like, just praying that Novak keep on playing so I can watch him play.
08:16Yeah, so I'm just very, actually, very grateful that I was growing up during this era, you know.
08:22And sometimes I come back to these old matches, and I watch them play, and it feels like poetry, really.
08:29So, yeah, nowadays it's more about watching my friends, I would say.
08:35Sometimes, if there is a good match, I can watch.
08:40Like, I love watching, of course, Carlos or Yannick.
08:45Yeah.
08:46So, yeah.
08:48But before, it was definitely about the big three.
08:54Your story is unbelievable on the paper, on one hand, and you said it on court that it was hard
09:00to realize,
09:01but on another hand, you play with a lot of clarity, you speak with a lot of clarity here.
09:05If you had two columns, this is surrealistic, this is an out-of-body experience,
09:10and another column, which is, well, it's my daily life of a tennis player, and, I mean, I live my
09:16daily life every day.
09:17What would be the experiences, sorry, that you would put in each of the columns?
09:23I'm sorry, I don't understand the question.
09:25Let's imagine, in what you're experiencing at the moment, what's the more surrealistic, and what's the more, I mean, normal,
09:37because you look like very normal when you play and you speak to us.
09:41Well, thank you.
09:42I mean, I guess, I mean, nothing changes for me, you know, I'm just, like, playing tennis.
09:50Just, I mean, the stage changed, but honestly, I'm just playing tennis and practicing, and for me, it doesn't change.
10:00I just want to win whatever I'm playing, like, whatever match I'm playing.
10:04So, that's it.
10:07So, what's so hard to process?
10:08What's what?
10:09What's so hard to process?
10:12Well, I mean, I guess, I mean, the jump, you know, I mean, let's not, like, pretend it's someone, you
10:20know, expected it.
10:23I mean, I was outside top 100, and now I'm in the finals of a Grand Slam, so I feel
10:31like it's a big thing.
10:33So, it's hard to process it, I guess.
10:36Yeah.
10:38All right, a few more in English.
10:39One here.
10:40Hi, Maya.
10:40Congratulations.
10:41You said you're in a bubble, not aware of the noise around you, but you're growing more and more sponsors
10:48who have stepped up.
10:49What is that like logistically?
10:52Do you get involved in those conversations, and how does it feel to be in demand and sponsored?
10:57I mean, for now, I'm playing.
11:00So, I'm very grateful for the OSHI company to help me to cover my hotel expenses this three weeks now.
11:10But other than that, now I'm just focusing on tennis, and the rest, I guess, will come after the tournament.
11:18Hi, Maya.
11:20Congrats.
11:20What's we've seen you with different outfits on different runs?
11:25What's the story behind all of those outfits?
11:28I mean, there is no story, really.
11:30I'm not sponsored, so.
11:33I guess that's the story.
