Kenya will cut diesel prices in the next pricing cycle after deadly protests and transport strikes triggered by soaring fuel costs linked to Middle East supply disruptions.

00:08In a televised address, Ruto said the price will fall by around 8 cents per litre

00:18The announcement comes just days after Kenya raised retail fuel prices
00:23by as much as 23% in the previous cycle, triggering public anger.
00:28Public transport operators responded with a two-day strike this week,
00:32which left four people dead and around 30 others injured.
00:36Ruto said the government had secured guaranteed fuel supplies
00:39through state-to-state agreements,
00:41despite ongoing disruptions in global energy markets.
00:44Kenya had spent at least US$270 million on fuel price relief between April and June,
00:51including tax measures aimed at easing pressure on households and businesses
00:55facing higher transport and energy costs.
