Welcome to Wrexham (2022) Season 5 Episode 3 - Coming Togethe
Transcript
00:00And now Wrexham are coming here to hopefully get three points, it's incredible, isn't it?
00:04And, you know, to be a part of that is absolutely amazing.
00:07My first ever game was Wrexham against Leicester in the old second division at the race course.
00:13In the championship, every single player you come up against is a high-quality, top-notch performer.
00:18Get with him!
00:19The margin for error is gone, and it becomes a precision game of split-second decisions and fractions of inches.
00:25And that's what they can do!
00:26The difference in quality in this league, the ability to weigh passes with good pace into crowded areas and get
00:33them back off.
00:34The pass played even a microsecond too early.
00:37Barnard delivers early, and it's smashed over first try!
00:41Or too late.
00:42Under pressure, he's lost it!
00:43Pass it as soon as he fucking sees.
00:44Or place just slightly ahead or behind of the player you're passing to.
00:47The through ball for Brodin, unlucky, it was a good run.
00:50Is the difference between giving the ball away...
00:51Ah, he's missed his pass, it was nice movement outside him.
00:55And scoring a goal.
00:56O'Brien nicks it from him.
00:58Feet to back it!
00:59Yeah!
01:00Spaces it home!
01:03Attempting to dribble around half the opposition team is a lot harder at this level.
01:06Get some passes in!
01:08Chances are, you'll get dispossessed.
01:11Come on, keeper!
01:12By the time you receive the ball, you already need to know who you're going to pass it to.
01:16Keep moving the ball!
01:17Keep moving the ball!
01:19And not only who you're going to pass it to, but where you think they're going to be when you
01:22pass them the ball.
01:23Doesn't quite get that right.
01:24We just don't look in sync at the moment, really, do we?
01:27We're coming to the ball and the ball's going long, we're going long and the ball's coming short.
01:31There's an understanding between players that takes a lot of football intelligence.
01:35Moving quicker!
01:36Together!
01:37And a lot of time spent playing together.
01:39There is the final whistle.
01:41Wrexham, good value for the draw.
01:43Listen, it's hard when you've got so many new players.
01:47Get the players integrated, but trying to get results.
01:49It's almost impossible to ask for the gaffer.
01:55These lads were Premier League champions.
01:57Now they've been little.
01:58Now they're playing.
01:59No, we're not little old.
02:00We're not little old.
02:01We're fucking massive.
02:05In order to get results in the second tier, it doesn't matter how good you are as a player
02:10individually, it's all about what you can do as a team.
02:13Think about your way to pass.
02:14Think about your way to pass.
02:15Yes, here we go.
02:16We're playing.
02:17Good.
02:17That understanding means the players really have to share kind of a single mind, and that
02:22all starts with Phil.
02:24Good.
02:25Great start.
02:26Good.
02:26Don't forget where you came from Don't forget why you made up the ones who were there
02:35No one else would care Don't be afraid to cry now
02:42Even when the world comes crashing in Don't forget to sing when you win
02:56Don't forget to sing when you win
03:05Well, hello and welcome to the race course.
03:07Wrexham against Birmingham City.
03:09The two sides who entered automatically last season, of course.
03:12We've gone through now, we've had four home league games.
03:15Not managed to win yet, and that's something that we're not used to.
03:18So today, Robin Wright into Pukova, home form as being the bedrock of our success.
03:23We've got beat twice, and we've drawn the rest.
03:25We just need that bit of luck for to turn one of those draws into a win, and we'll be
03:28good
03:28to go for the rest of the season.
03:30Players attacking the far post.
03:32He beats his man.
03:33It's the short stuff left to Dover.
03:35Well done, come on!
03:37It is a real good opportunity for us to get our first win at home.
03:41Warner comes in, and it's there!
03:43Wrexham take the lead!
03:45If we can hold on to this, it would be a nice way to get back to winning ways, wouldn't
03:48it?
03:49I feel like we've lost a bit of magic, especially at home.
03:52And I feel like giving it a win tonight, we'll get that magic back.
03:56And just 21 seconds into the second half.
03:59Wrexham are caught with a sucker punch.
04:02How frustrating is that?
04:05That's really, really annoying.
04:07It's a team game, and it's a group of individuals at the moment, because they've all been thrown
04:12together.
04:12But in time, we'll gel as a team, and we'll start moving up the league, get to the premiership.
04:18And it's a 1-0 draw.
04:19Should have been 2-0.
04:20A frustrating two points dropped at home.
04:23Might not get promotion this year, but hey-ho!
04:29You know, we've been great from getting draws, but this league is tough.
04:33Too many draws?
04:34It will be too many draws when we get to Christmas and we're doing this still.
04:37We've played two really good teams.
04:39We've been in the games, we've not been battered at all.
04:43Maybe we should have turned some of those draws into victories.
04:46Wrexham now face Stoke, who are fifth at the table.
04:49We are in a moment where we've ripped up the entire fabric of the team, really.
04:55And a lot of people are wondering whether these new players are going to prove to be worth it.
05:05Nothing happens overnight.
05:07Everything takes time.
05:08Everything's a journey.
05:09Everything is one step after another, which kind of mirrors or reflects what's happening
05:15in my life.
05:17You know, two years ago, I was nervous about coming in here.
05:21And not sure whether I, you know, how am I going to cope with the sound and the noise.
05:25I'm not big on crowds.
05:26I've started on the outside, you know, photographing the lights.
05:29But that's that little niche part of the town.
05:31That's, and then there's this other side of the town that I didn't know anything about,
05:36that I wasn't a part of.
05:41One of my friends told me a few years ago, you will never understand what it's like to
05:47be in that stand until you've been in that stand.
05:49From the outside, you can't understand it.
05:52But once you've been in there, once you've done it, you will suddenly get it.
05:56And so I've, I've stepped through the looking glass.
05:58I'm, I'm of this place.
06:00The broken shell of a person that came here in 2008 is still in me.
06:05But I feel relaxed here.
06:07That's where I find peace.
06:09Screaming my lungs out.
06:10Singing songs I didn't know the words to in the beginning.
06:12Mouthing along, hoping that no one notices.
06:14And now I'm teaching them to people.
06:16And like, it's my happy place.
06:20I don't feel a sort of crushing pressure that I used to feel on myself.
06:26Like, quitting drinking and then being at art school and everything,
06:29they were like the first two steps.
06:31And it feels like the third step has been football.
06:34I've gotten to know the people that I photograph.
06:37I have football family now.
06:39I'm even going on the turf away day buses.
06:41Just know people by name and handshakes.
06:44And, you know, I can't go in a stand without,
06:47Oh, are you right, mate? How are you doing?
06:48I haven't seen you in a while.
06:49Like, I'm no longer observing.
06:52I'm a participant.
06:54And, you know, I, I wouldn't change that for anything.
07:00The anxiety and the depression does not go away.
07:03It stays with you for life.
07:04It's always there in the background.
07:06But if you try hard enough for long enough,
07:10you can find joy in anything.
07:13It's home.
07:14I finally feel like I'm home.
07:17I'm in the club.
07:20And match days, that's where I come to literally sing its praises.
07:30Welcome to Wrexham against Oxford United.
07:34Wrexham still looking for the first home win of the season.
07:37I don't have religion.
07:39I'm not spiritual.
07:40This is, this is church.
07:42This is religion.
07:45I've got faith in this.
07:50Stadium lights.
07:51They're like church spires or church steeples calling us to prayer.
07:55And these seats, these are our pews.
07:57That's where we sing our hymns.
07:59We're the choir.
08:00Wrexham!
08:03Something that I can feel part of.
08:05Something that's bigger than me.
08:07There's a lot of gratitude I have for that.
08:10Slice wide.
08:11Broadhead.
08:12Helds the ball home.
08:14Good heavens.
08:15Is that funny?
08:17Keep a guy's hands to it.
08:18Pushed it onto the post.
08:20The wrap, of course, has got the technology.
08:22Yes, it's in.
08:25For all that strikes.
08:26And Wrexham deservedly take the lead.
08:31Rob and Ryan came in.
08:32They gave us money.
08:35But I think most importantly, they just gave the town a sense of hope and a sense of permission.
08:41You've got the right to feel proud of this town.
08:43You've got the right to make something on it.
08:45Let's get playing again!
08:46Wrexham just looking to get a bit of possession going.
08:49Goal Doyle has taken his man out of Oxford, but more than a yellow.
08:52They're rushing in on Doyle.
08:54It was...
08:55It's a razz.
08:56It is more than a yellow.
08:58But the problem is, is that we're only up 1-0 right now.
09:01And in this league, even though we control the entire match, one mistake, we're punished, and it's 1-1.
09:10Now we have a player down.
09:11And this game has now got a different complexion.
09:14There's been matches where things haven't been going well on the pitch.
09:17And then you'll hear Red and White Army start being chandled.
09:24And it builds.
09:27And it builds.
09:28There's contact!
09:29The free kick comes in and it's into a great area, and wrecks him get away with it.
09:37And it gets to this point where you suddenly feel like I am connected to that guy with the ball
09:43right now.
09:44George, we can still get passes in!
09:48I can just shout this little bit louder.
09:50We can just sing that little bit more.
09:52We can rule them to score that goal.
09:56He hits it!
09:58Oh, the keeper makes a world, you see!
10:01Jeez!
10:02Fucking hell!
10:03But the Wrexham fans and their team have battled so hard for over 25 minutes.
10:10One last test.
10:12Wrexham fighting.
10:13My brain disappears.
10:14My mind disappears.
10:15I don't know who the f*** I am at that moment.
10:17I'm just this thing screaming with pure joy.
10:20So that's it!
10:21Our first home win of the season!
10:23My word, we're going to fight for this.
10:26It's f***ing great!
10:35We're all good.
10:36We'll get started whenever you guys are ready.
10:38Don't give away our trade secrets.
10:42I'm Jenny Sugarman, and I'm the new head coach of the women's team at Wrexham.
10:47Ready?
10:47Let's play!
10:49My first impressions were now very focused and driven to have a top-class women's hockey team.
10:55And give me the support, because they believe in me to do that.
10:59We ate the opportunity to play food.
11:01Good, Lily!
11:01Well done!
11:02So Jenny Sugarman is a jack-of-all-trades.
11:04She's been the head coach at West Brom.
11:06She's been the head of academy at Leicester.
11:08She's coached at every age group.
11:10Men, women, UK, US, and now Wrexham women.
11:15Now, she came in in a difficult situation.
11:17In fact, I think it caught her off guard a bit.
11:20So I started on the Monday, and a week on a Saturday, we were meant to be going to Florida
11:25for a pre-season tour.
11:28We've only one player under contract.
11:30It's not a great way to start a leadership journey.
11:36Instead of going to the US, we went to Norwich on a pre-season camp, and we went to the
11:39beach,
11:39and we played a fixture, and we trained, and we just spent time together for three or four days.
11:44There you go, when you ask for the ball, it makes it easy!
11:46I wanted to not just judge them as players, I wanted to judge them as people.
11:50Because if they're going to come on this journey, and we're going to work together,
11:53I need to find out a little bit more about who they are, and what they're going to contribute.
11:59You're good?
12:00Doing well, yeah?
12:02Good, good.
12:03Nice!
12:04To realise how we've created a squad, we've recruited players from all sorts of different places,
12:10we've put new processes in, we've recruited embedded new staff,
12:13there's so many things that we've done.
12:15I've been at Wrexham for quite a while now, so Jenny coming in with so much knowledge
12:20and so much experience to give, and I think we're really starting to reap the rewards of that.
12:25Yep, come on, let's go.
12:26Bringing players then who had great experience, great knowledge,
12:30like Jodie, like Katie Barker, like Mahmood,
12:37raised the level as a professional programme.
12:40Other people have stepped up, that has meant everyone else has had to step up.
12:42Yeah, it's exciting.
12:45So yeah, we've invested a little bit more in the women's programme this year, we've bought the ROC.
12:50We're the only women's programme in the Welsh League that has a dedicated women's facility.
12:56If we're trying to change the way that, you know, women's football in Wales is seen,
13:01we have to lead by example.
13:02And so for us to invest in the ROC allows for us to have a pathway to professional women's football.
13:07Since 2022, investment in women's sports has exploded,
13:11with global revenues growing by more than 200%,
13:14signaling a powerful shift in how the world views women athletes.
13:19Major leagues, including women's soccer, are now attracting record-breaking sponsorship and media deals,
13:24while fan engagement is at an all-time high.
13:27The surge isn't just about numbers, it's about a deep commitment to equity and visibility for women in sports.
13:33I think what it showed Jenny and the rest of the women's team is that
13:38we say we want to support women's football, but we are.
13:41And I think that just creates confidence, because it sets what the ambition could and should be.
13:51This is the first step in our season, OK?
13:54Have a look at the people around you, know that they've got your back,
13:57and go and give us your absolute best today, OK?
14:00It's a big, big day, and it's a big, big occasion.
14:03Raxham with a new-look team, as Raxham take the field in their yellow daffodil kits.
14:08It's the first game for Jenny Sugarman, who's really attracted some excellent-looking players.
14:15And away we go.
14:16And then, we had the worst possible start.
14:19It's a ball's played back.
14:21Oh, Creighton must be quick there, and it's a goal!
14:24Fifth minute.
14:25Excellent goal behind.
14:26Excellent of everyone back defending.
14:29The end swinger is awkward, it's in!
14:33Britain fairly have a two-goal lead.
14:36You're about to find out what your team's made of in the very first game of the season.
14:40Come on, Max!
14:42Back moves.
14:43Space is all to her left.
14:45She can carry it through the middle.
14:46That's a good strike.
14:47Are you ready for the revolution?
14:49Wow!
14:50What a goal!
14:51What a debut!
14:52Let's go, Max!
14:53This is what we do, OK?
14:55Come on, Max!
14:58Another second piece.
15:00And it's in!
15:01Raxham back in it!
15:05Good strike by Barker!
15:08Tremendous heads in Raxham.
15:09Take a deserved lead.
15:10We find out that they were a team full of belief and resilience.
15:15What guts Raxham have shown to go two down early on to come back with this quality.
15:20Hey!
15:22Wow, what a start to the season.
15:27I'm really proud of where we are because to be able to still produce results whilst still
15:33trying to refine our identity, trying to gel a group of players that haven't had that
15:37much time together is really difficult.
15:40There's been so much change, but we've made sure we've sticked together for it all.
15:44We've really kind of got that togetherness, which is something that's going to carry us
15:47for the rest of the season, I think.
15:48This is all I've got for you.
15:50This is who we are and this is what we do.
15:52OK?
15:53Let's go.
15:53Go!
16:00We're going to bring you some news from the world of sport.
16:03Sheffield Wednesday, we understand, has filed for administration.
16:08The club who are already bottom of the championship will be given an immediate 12-point deduction.
16:13Almost inevitably, they will end up being relegated to League One.
16:17Basically, what happens in administration, an administrator is appointed to take over
16:22the run of the football club and effectively get the best deal that they can.
16:26You get an automatic points deduction.
16:28I do think that fans feel unfairly punished because it is them and the club and the players
16:34that have been punished.
16:36They have been plunged into this car crash by the owner and will be paying for it for, you
16:42know, the foreseeable future.
16:43Sheffield Wednesday, a huge football club giant.
16:46And to see the situation that they're in, we've been in, so many years or so long ago.
16:50It's sad.
16:51We were the first club, weren't we, to be deducted?
16:52The first one, yeah.
16:53How long ago was that?
16:552005, was it?
16:562006, a long time around then, yeah.
16:58These are turbulent times for Wrexham Football Club.
17:01Its future is on a knife edge and the talks of debts amount into millions and asset stripping.
17:06You're being accused of asset stripping this club.
17:08What do you have to say about that?
17:10Goblin.
17:10Total rubbish.
17:13We were happy about going to administration because it meant the end of Alex Hamilton,
17:16but obviously then you're in a relegation battle, you know, demoralising to the players who
17:21are working hard to get these points.
17:22Ten points comes off, you know.
17:24Who is it punishing?
17:25As I say, it's always the fans that suffer.
17:28For both clubs, the tale of what they've been through is a really big indicator of just
17:34how important football fans are, and I know that Wrexham had to come together as a supporter
17:39base in order to get their football club back.
17:42We always talk about custodians of football clubs rather than owners, and I think that's
17:47something that the owners here really get, that they're here for now, and it's there
17:52to look after.
17:53What does the town want?
17:56What do they want for their club?
17:58Because that's what's most important.
17:59It's not what Ryan and I want.
18:00We have dreams and we have ideas, but ultimately, that's not relevant because it's not our club.
18:08We just happen to be the stewards right now.
18:13Are you hungry?
18:14Are you going to eat pasta?
18:16Can I have some?
18:17I feel like she's a little overwhelmed.
18:20Yeah, in terms of Sheffield and their fan base and stuff, it's obviously a shame what's
18:24happened to them now, but yeah, only good memories from them.
18:27My daughter was born in Sheffield as well, so they'll always have a place in our hearts
18:31and our families.
18:33Josh Winders, attacking midfielder.
18:35Do you want to share the strawberry?
18:37Me and my wife met a long time ago when I was on tour with Rangers in South Carolina.
18:42And she paid me off for a while and then eventually, eventually she came around.
18:46I was working at a hotel and he was staying there with the Rangers at the time.
18:51He didn't speak to me ever, not one time.
18:54But then after the team had left, I got a DM on Twitter.
19:00And now here we are.
19:00Now I'm married with a kid.
19:01Yeah.
19:02Game over.
19:02Funny how it works.
19:04I remember him specifically because I'd never seen somebody my age with that many tattoos.
19:10I was like, he's never going to get a real job.
19:14I always knew that I was going to be a footballer.
19:17Why?
19:18How did you know?
19:19I was just better than all my teammates growing up.
19:22Yeah, I was better than everyone else.
19:25Winders, the ambitious one, the keeper's on his left!
19:28Oh!
19:32Subconsciously, I've been watching football since birth, really.
19:35I think my dad was at Hull when I was born.
19:37I started off at Huddersfield from 7 till 17.
19:42And then I just think I went from Accrington to Rangers and then Wigan.
19:46The Hound.
19:47Well, one of them is mine and one of them is Josh's.
19:51I'm sure you can guess which one is which.
19:53Wembley, we actually got after the goal at Wembley, which is why we named him that.
19:59Wembley sets up.
20:00And again, Josh Wenders!
20:04He's dead in here 15 years ago.
20:07The whole city, Josh Wenders has been in for Sheffield Wednesday.
20:13He didn't want to name it Wembley.
20:15He was like, no, that's embarrassing.
20:16And I was like, no.
20:16Because you know why I didn't want to name it Wembley?
20:18Because I know everyone would think he's arrogant as fuck.
20:21He's definitely named that Wembley.
20:22When actually it weren't me.
20:24But it's something I would do.
20:25But I didn't do it for that run and she did anyway.
20:27It's fitting.
20:28It's very fitting.
20:30I wanted to further my career and play for a team that I thought was going to challenge
20:33to get promoted and I didn't think that was going to happen at Sheffield Wednesday.
20:37Josh, because of Sheffield Wednesday's problems, was available on a free transfer.
20:41And we felt that he's a player who can unlock the door in tight matches with an assist or a
20:48goal.
20:48And when he became available on a free transfer, then it was too good an opportunity to turn down.
20:53What do you think?
20:55What do you think?
20:56What support do you do for a lot of pitch?
20:59Winning.
21:00Because you can win without winning matches.
21:03You can try to win every day in your professionalism, the way you turn up, the way you train, the
21:07way you do stuff.
21:07You don't have to win trophies to be a winner.
21:10It's just the way you conduct yourself.
21:13But I really like the team to do that to win it.
21:19This is a proper test.
21:21Middlesbrough don't let goals and they're playing six and eleven.
21:25Sixteen sheets in those games.
21:27They are really good.
21:29Well, they're second in the league.
21:30We're just hitting mid-table.
21:33I feel we play better against the big sides.
21:36We play better in the big stadium.
21:38Come on!
21:39Come on!
21:40Get in, Rexhawn!
21:43Right, hang on to your fucking axe.
21:44Here we go.
21:45Rexhawn for the first time in our Patagonian blue and white hit.
21:49This will be a fascinating test.
21:54Rexhawn now moving it around in midfield quite comfortably.
21:57Rexhawn has shifted nicely.
21:58They kept it on the right now.
21:59Switched quickly to the left.
22:00Longman has got his van isolated.
22:02He cuts inside.
22:03He's got an overlap.
22:03It's a shot.
22:04Good save by Bryn.
22:06That's what we want from the game.
22:08And a promising start that by Rexhawn.
22:13At this level in the championship, what separates those teams at the top from those in the middle
22:18isn't whether you have a bad day, it's whether you have a good day.
22:22You win, that's my head, there's.
22:23He goes, he's in.
22:25And that's it!
22:27Oh, no!
22:28Oh, no!
22:31And Rexhawn take the lead!
22:33Brilliant points!
22:34But you were just missing that extra something on that day.
22:37O'Brien carries the end.
22:39Looks for more!
22:39Free header!
22:40Missed!
22:41He's at the bar.
22:42He had to score.
22:43Oh, Kiefer, Kiefer, Kiefer.
22:45Oh, my fucking God.
22:46I don't believe it.
22:47At this point of the season, it's not that our team isn't playing well.
22:51I know we are.
22:53But in a league this time, we can't afford to be missing that extra something.
22:56Cross with a far bump spike.
22:58Target!
22:59Oh, and that's a disappointing goal to concede.
23:02More will be reflecting, I'm sure, on that chance with the header.
23:05Yeah, just going to put Rexhawn 2-0 up.
23:08There's the final whistle.
23:09One all draw at Middlesbrough.
23:12Rexhawn again.
23:13Lose two points to a late goal.
23:14A match that really should have been a win.
23:17Yeah, it was a good result for us, but I didn't think we played great.
23:20We didn't have much of the ball.
23:21Obviously, second half, we got pinned in quite a lot.
23:23We scored, but in terms of our performance, and as an attacking player,
23:25I don't think it was our best performance.
23:28Maybe this is the thing that is work in progress in a brand new team.
23:32Getting that sort of killer instinct,
23:34especially late on,
23:35and I wonder if hopefully that can come as the squad gels together.
23:40It's like we've almost started fresh this season,
23:42and we need to get the basics of what made us so successful back again.
23:54Nice and relaxed! Nice and relaxed!
23:57Middlesbrough away.
23:58Another game in which Rexhawn had a little bit disappointing.
24:00They didn't get all three.
24:01Oh, keeper! Keeper! Keeper!
24:03Maybe I'm just being an old romantic, but someone tells me that Oli Parma scores that,
24:07and we win the game 3-1 or something, but hey, in Parky we trust.
24:11Spending a lot and changing more than half the team.
24:13You had a solid team ready.
24:16Sad to see a few leave.
24:17My favourite players is to take over.
24:20Oli Parma, really shame seeing goals.
24:23What do you do with Nathan Brodhead?
24:24Why has Parky bought this record signing, and we don't seem to know what to do with him?
24:29It's not just what they've done elsewhere, it's how effective they'll be in your system.
24:33A lot of Phil's sides have thrived with a big target man, long-ball style.
24:39A defender or midfielder hitting the ball long and high into the air for a big player
24:44to either win that ball or create situations in which his teammates can thrive in around him.
24:49Controlled chaos.
24:51Fletcher, I absolutely loved him, and he made me just literally fall back in love with football.
24:55Would we have even got up automatically if we ever got them seven or eight last-minute goals?
24:59I'd have kept him.
25:00I'd have kept him.
25:01Do I get frustrated with his tactics?
25:03Absolutely, I'm not going to lie.
25:04Rival fans call it dinosaur football.
25:06We call it Parky ball.
25:07Get the ball away from your goal as quick as possible.
25:09Get a six-foot-five striker up front, and you kick it long,
25:11maybe have a shot, or maybe give it to your wingers,
25:13try and beat your man, and whip it into the box.
25:16Was anybody surprised when Phil Parkinson signed six-foot-five Kiefer Moore?
25:19No.
25:19He's a target man, he's such a big guy, and he's a threat.
25:23Is Parky ball old school?
25:25Absolutely.
25:25Do I get bored of him kicking it long or playing five at the back?
25:28No, I don't, for as long as he wins games.
25:30Come on back in your position.
25:33If you put Kiefer Moore on a team that doesn't play long balls and doesn't use a target man,
25:36he's going to be useless.
25:38It's Moore, it's blocked.
25:39And Sheffield United fans might be saying,
25:41jeez, he was our least viable player.
25:42Well, if you put him in a team where that's what they do,
25:45he's going to be priceless.
25:46Brilliant, Kiefer.
25:47Well, now we just need him to click with the players applying the bullets
25:50so he can get scoring.
25:51Fucking tremendous.
25:55Hi, guys.
25:56How are you, Kiefer?
25:56I'll be your Kiefer to stay in your penguin feed.
25:58Amazing.
25:58Come on in.
25:59Amazing, thank you.
26:00See the penguins?
26:02Can you see the penguins?
26:03There's lots of penguins in that pool.
26:05Wow, look at them.
26:07So everyone has a coloured wing band and everyone has a name.
26:11So we do name themes.
26:13We've even done footballers.
26:14That was a while ago, though, so unfortunately no one's named after you.
26:18Aww.
26:20Kiefer Moore, position, striker.
26:23I've always had this unwavering feel of, like, it was always my destiny to make it as a professional
26:28footballer.
26:29I think I knew all I needed was a chance, and I knew in myself that I would take it.
26:35Crossing towards Kiefer Moore.
26:37It's in his second.
26:39I've played for 14 clubs.
26:41Truro City, Dorchester Town, Yeovil, Viking in Norway, Forest Green, Ipswich, Rotherham,
26:47Barnsley, Wigan, Cardiff, Bournemouth, Sheffield United, Wrexham.
26:53Oh, yeah, sorry, I miss Torquay, yeah.
26:55Missed my own town club, didn't I?
26:58Wales' most productive striker recently has done it again.
27:03Go, people, go!
27:04People, people, go!
27:06You go to different clubs, and you get, like, different songs, but, of course, for
27:10me, playing for Wales, these massive stadiums, I can hear the stadium bouncing, and, you
27:14know, you get so lifted by it.
27:18Whenever I step onto a pitch, I grab a piece of grass, I tap my chest twice, and kiss the
27:24grass and throw it into the air.
27:26Done that for as long as I can remember, but for me, that's paying, like, my respects to
27:31people that have helped me get to this journey.
27:34And the position, you know, I, I'm not a, like, a selfish person, everything I do is
27:39just being thankful for that.
27:47I met Charlotte when I wasn't even a footballer.
27:49I think we've been together nearly, nearly 12, 12 or 13 years, yeah.
27:57I've got a little boy now, Hudson, who's, who's incredible.
28:00Say rhino.
28:01Say rhino.
28:02Hudson's first words was rhino, so I think it's obviously weapon off with you and your
28:06favourite animal.
28:08I think I can definitely say, without Charlotte, I wouldn't have made it this far and there's
28:12no way.
28:13Good pace.
28:14Good pace.
28:15What?
28:15We don't have to run everywhere.
28:17The mental side in football play starts a huge part and at certain points in my career,
28:22I probably did doubt myself.
28:24Then, of course, you have the social media aspect and, you know, that can be a nasty place.
28:28Something rankles me about Kiefermore.
28:30He was most people's plan B or C.
28:32A lot of people think he's just a car horse up front that he put as a kind of last
28:35result.
28:36For me now, it's, it's what it is like.
28:39The only opinions I listen to are the ones that matter.
28:41Oh, wow, Hudson, look at the giraffes.
28:44Pressure is, is guaranteed in football.
28:46You want to be the one scoring the goals, you want to be making the difference in the team
28:50and I think for me personally, like, I've always really thrived on having that pressure
28:54on my shoulders.
28:55I got to a point in my career where I'm getting a second chance and I have to do everything
29:00in my power to be successful.
29:02Did you have fun?
29:13Kalan Gheav Hapis, a very happy Halloween to you from the Stoke Kairas.
29:19Wrexham back at home this evening against table-topping Coventry City.
29:2534 goals scored, just nine conceded.
29:28They have been efficient and effective in attack.
29:33This is a hell of a test for Wrexham because Coventry are the last unbeaten team in all
29:39of the top five divisions in English football.
29:42We just keep winning.
29:43We just keep winning and winning and winning.
29:45We're scoring what?
29:46Three goals every game.
29:48Super Frankie Lampard.
29:49Super Frankie Lampard.
29:50It should be a solid performance.
29:52I'm hoping for a 2-1 win, if not more.
29:55They are in ludicrous form.
29:58I want to win.
30:00And that's my heart.
30:01My head says a draw.
30:03It's either going to be 4-0 Cov or it's going to be 1-0 Wrexham.
30:084-0 Cov.
30:09Behave yourself.
30:11That's what I said.
30:14What's the question again?
30:16Go on boys, a real front foot mentality, eh?
30:18When we fucking close, we fucking go aggressively.
30:21Do you think that Phil Parkinson's approach tonight will be about trying to stop Coventry
30:26or trying to win the game himself?
30:28I mean, can you stop Coventry at the moment?
30:29That's what we're going to have to do.
30:30We're going to see in 90 minutes' time.
30:32Up front, Josh Windass plays off Kiefer Moore.
30:36I'm worried about Kiefer Moore.
30:37I think he's the bloke who's going to do some real damage tonight if he gets on the ball.
30:41Who's your favourite player?
30:42Who's your favourite player?
30:43Kiefer Moore.
30:44I think we're starting to gel.
30:47We need to start getting three points at home.
30:53Wrexham have high expectations from the big man up front.
30:56He hasn't scored in the last seven league games.
30:59Long kick.
31:00Moore gets it well.
31:01Flicks it on.
31:02Windass on the chase.
31:03He'll bring it down.
31:04Great defending that by Kiecheng.
31:06Good keeper!
31:07Quite a few long balls from Wrexham so far,
31:09which some might call a bit Parky ball.
31:12Coventry with plenty of the ball early on,
31:13but Wrexham holding her arm's length.
31:15And Coventry are now going long as well.
31:17Dangerous moment.
31:17That's a great ball then!
31:18And it's scored!
31:19It's there!
31:20Coventry take the lead.
31:22And that is why they're top of the table.
31:25Good Lord, that's terrific.
31:26That's Halloween at its worst.
31:29Parky has been accused of being Jurassic,
31:31of being, you know, a bit primitive in its ambition.
31:35And for tonight, we shall see.
31:38Good!
31:38Keep it playing!
31:39Come on, we've done well!
31:41We've had the best chances!
31:42Come on!
31:42Football is about evolving and adapting to the next level.
31:46Mixed our game up.
31:47You know, we went long into Kiefer,
31:48but we played a lot of good short passes as well.
31:50You've got to adapt your team to what the opposition in them do.
31:54Wrexham have shown their mettle,
31:56but against the team of Coventry's quality,
31:58if you don't take your chances, they'll punish you.
32:00Move again!
32:01The question is, at Christmas time,
32:04will Parky still be here?
32:06I have my doubts.
32:08There's a half-time whistle goal.
32:10Wrexham a goal down against the best team in the division.
32:13Come on, boys.
32:14Keep fucking going.
32:15Don't worry, a goal against is never acceptable,
32:18but don't let it fucking knock us,
32:19because, honestly, you've played some fucking brilliant stuff.
32:21We want a bit more belief from everybody.
32:23Kiefer?
32:24We kind of knew there was a real feeling, you know,
32:27that he's a high-flying team, you know,
32:29they've scored X amount of goals.
32:31You know, they've beaten teams sevens and threes and fives on the regular,
32:34and, of course, that's what is in my mind.
32:37I think, fucking, they've been built up so much.
32:38Oh, contrary this, contrary that.
32:40Fucking, we're a good team.
32:41We're a good team.
32:42Come on.
32:42We've got players to go and fucking take the moments in this game.
32:45Let's go up the notch in our fucking belief in and around the box,
32:48and we're going to go get some out of the game.
32:49Come on. Come on.
32:52We can't win games by ourselves at this level,
32:54and the better my teammates play, the better I play.
32:57Got to take the chances.
32:59Got to take the chances.
33:00At this point, I truly believe.
33:02I know their games inside and out.
33:04I think they know my game inside and out.
33:05I was just thinking, I just need a chance.
33:08Just, just keep at it.
33:09We will score.
33:11Come on, boys. Let's go. Come on.
33:13And it's nice, snappy passing.
33:15Wrexham moving it around, drawing Coventry onto them.
33:18Very different from the first half.
33:20Well done, boys.
33:21Wrexham fans making superb noise.
33:25I don't know if fans really know how they impact players,
33:29and it really does spare you on.
33:31Do it.
33:32He's kicking Wrexham again.
33:33Kabore to Windas.
33:34Places the ball.
33:37Yeah!
33:40Wrexham equalised!
33:42Brilliant ball in by Windas.
33:45Brilliant stuff.
33:45The crowd, the players all in unison.
33:48This ball's back on the gold trail.
33:50And Wrexham, with half an hour left,
33:53are giving Coventry a proper game.
33:56Keep the ball!
33:56Keep the ball!
33:58Keep the ball!
33:59Keep the ball!
34:00Keep the ball!
34:00To have these moments, you know,
34:02when you hear that song,
34:03you almost just get like a, you know,
34:05another life.
34:07Clock your chest and you go again,
34:08do you know what I mean?
34:10Wrexham suddenly looking confident with the ball,
34:12in tight areas of the pitch.
34:14Windas with the cross,
34:15and Moore scores!
34:17Wrexham take the lead!
34:18They keep the ball again!
34:19Keep the ball!
34:21Keep the ball!
34:21Keep the ball!
34:22It's the first time I've noticed the ground.
34:26People talk about the atmosphere,
34:27and it always is a good atmosphere,
34:28but it was the first time I felt like the crowd believing
34:30in the new players,
34:31and it was like a different noise.
34:33What a ball!
34:34Windas and Moore just perfectly in sync.
34:37Hopefully from now on,
34:38I think we can start seeing that it means as much to us
34:41as it did all these boys who've come before us.
34:44I know Brian's coming,
34:46the game is stretched.
34:47With us, to Moore!
34:48Gentleman hat-trick!
34:49Ties and go!
34:51Keeper Moore!
34:53Thrills at home!
34:55It's one of the rarest feats in football.
34:57A perfect hat-trick!
34:58Keeper, perfect hat-trick!
35:00Right foot, header, left foot.
35:01How do you look back on that?
35:03Yeah, I've got this man to back for that.
35:05It's all right.
35:06You seem to have had that understanding.
35:08Yeah, we know each other's game,
35:09inside and out,
35:09and try and look for him as best I can.
35:12Even in the context of what Phil Parkinson
35:14has achieved here at this club,
35:17this is significant.
35:18Coventry, the last team in the top five divisions
35:21to lose a match,
35:23and it's Wraxham who delivered it.
35:25Yeah!
35:26Keep up, keep up!
35:28Keep up, keep up!
35:29The team is really settling well into this division.
35:33That one was one for the ages.
35:36It was an incredible moment,
35:37and I've got the ball back there somewhere as well.
35:41To be fair, my son plays around with it all the time.
35:44I need to get it in the case,
35:45because he's going to really kick it to mass.
35:51When you go into first and second in the league
35:54and getting all these results,
35:55it's building us with such confidence and belief.
35:58I think you can only see how much we've grown
36:01from the start of season to this point now.
36:02I hugged a stranger.
36:06I don't do that.
36:07That full-on, like, proper everything touching.
36:10Come on.
36:11I'm really looking great.
36:13Keep up, keep up more!
36:14Keep up more!
36:15Keep up, keep up more!
36:17Yes!
36:21I just feel like this town is...
36:25It's not mine.
36:26I'm it.
36:29Like, you can't own this.
36:31You can just be part of it.
36:32And I'm part of it,
36:33and I'm addicted to that...
36:35that feeling.
36:38This is...
36:39This is home.
36:42I'm Rex until I die.
36:44There you go.
36:46Mic drop.
37:06I'm right.
37:06I've lost myсон.
37:06It's ...
37:24It seems to be the end.
37:25The storytelling behind it as you...
37:25Okay.
37:25Your dog.
