00:00:12.
00:00:13.
00:00:13.
00:00:14So?
00:00:15So?
00:00:16Chocks away.
00:00:17Chocks away.
00:00:18Good luck.
00:00:19Tally-ho.
00:00:26I'd been in the wilderness for a few years.
00:00:28And I just thought, I want to be even more truthful to myself.
00:00:34We were all saying the same thing.
00:00:38Let's do pop.
00:00:39Like, mega-pop.
00:00:41I'm spinning around.
00:00:43Move out of my way.
00:00:45I know you're feeling me cause you're like it like this.
00:00:49I'm breaking it down.
00:00:51The irony is...
00:00:54Kylie does mean boomerang.
00:00:57I do my best to come back.
00:01:03I've done some pretty, like Kermit kind of spot.
00:01:07Some bold, racy stuff.
00:01:10But...
00:01:11These are a bit bold.
00:01:14The gold-hot pants took it to another level.
00:01:17All 50 pence worth.
00:01:21And I said to the director, is it...
00:01:24Is it...
00:01:25I love them.
00:01:27They're staying.
00:01:31It was the first time I worked with a female director.
00:01:35Cause you're like it like this.
00:01:37But I had no idea.
00:01:39Baby, baby, baby.
00:01:40The shots were quite that close.
00:01:43Until they did.
00:01:44Now to wet you up and say...
00:01:46We've got a lady who's got me reaching for me.
00:01:47Hot pants are gorgeous.
00:01:49Kylie Minogue!
00:01:56We can confirm.
00:01:57Kylie Minogue has her fifth UK number one hit single.
00:02:01With Spinning Around.
00:02:02And she's on the phone now.
00:02:03Congratulations, Kylie.
00:02:04It's your biggest hit for over ten years.
00:02:08I will say this.
00:02:10It's good to be back.
00:02:14The first single is whipping up more than a little controversy
00:02:17thanks to our skimpy little shorts.
00:02:20Would you go out the house dressed like that?
00:02:22Well, let's just say I had...
00:02:25It would be an absolute fright if I put them on these days.
00:02:31Your bum has become like a force of nature in its own right.
00:02:34I believe there are like websites devoted to it
00:02:35and there are children named after it.
00:02:37And it's become...
00:02:37It's a huge phenomenon.
00:02:39Your bum is enormous.
00:02:42But...
00:02:45Okay.
00:02:46Good chorus, that.
00:02:48You're sounding in fine voice today.
00:02:49Oh, that's good.
00:02:50Okay.
00:02:51Let's go on to another track.
00:02:59I heard it as a demo.
00:03:03And then I was thrown into a panic saying,
00:03:05is it mine?
00:03:06Fire up the mic.
00:03:07We've got to do this.
00:03:10The official EK top 40.
00:03:12Second highest new entry.
00:03:13Alien, Ant Farm and Smooth Criminal.
00:03:19So we do have a new number one.
00:03:21And we have her on the phone now.
00:03:23Hi, Kylie.
00:03:24You're top of the chart again.
00:03:25I'm beside myself.
00:03:27You're beginning to make this look easy.
00:03:29And then it went off the recta.
00:03:33So of course I arrived on a giant CD player.
00:03:41Hanging on to like nothing.
00:03:49So can you tell us, you're the creative director, can you tell us about your role and how does it
00:03:53all work?
00:03:54I smoke.
00:03:59It's all about drawing attention to her.
00:04:03I don't like seeing Dancer's faces really.
00:04:07If you have loads of different faces, it takes attention away from her.
00:04:10Which is why they all seem to be covered up and why they all hate me.
00:04:18Obviously, you've got sex appeal.
00:04:20And sex sells.
00:04:25You are very sexy.
00:04:26Do you like looking sexy?
00:04:29Yes.
00:04:31I felt liberated.
00:04:33I felt quite powerful.
00:04:35And I was like, oh, okay.
00:04:38Yeah.
00:04:39What helps make it a sexy video is that it is my personality coming through.
00:04:43As opposed to what is meant to be sexy.
00:04:46But this is just, it's just me.
00:04:50Whether it's that addictive beat or that scandalous dress.
00:04:54I love this song.
00:04:55It's that chick from the 80s.
00:04:57Kylie Minogue's catchy dance song seems to have caught on here in the States.
00:05:01We were discussing Kylie Minogue.
00:05:07Grooving to it and everything.
00:05:08Right?
00:05:08Y'all feeling it too.
00:05:13Hello.
00:05:14How are you?
00:05:15Nice to see you.
00:05:16Nice to see you.
00:05:18Oh, healthy.
00:05:20I think this could be fucking great, you know.
00:05:23And we'll pay by numbers till something's fixed.
00:05:28Don't mind doing it for the kids.
00:05:32So come on.
00:05:37I mean, some people ask me about looking sexy with a tone in their voice like, well, is that right?
00:05:43Should you be doing that?
00:05:43And I say, well, I wouldn't like to feel that I couldn't be myself.
00:05:48It is part of my character.
00:05:50And there was a knowing to it.
00:05:52And winking.
00:05:55Can I have another one of these, please?
00:05:57Of course.
00:05:58Was that all right?
00:05:58Was that enough money?
00:05:59Mm-hmm.
00:06:00Delightful.
00:06:02Okay.
00:06:03We think we'd do one more.
00:06:04Yep.
00:06:04Just because we can.
00:06:11For the first time, I wasn't trying to be someone else.
00:06:24I would like to know, gay people always have been in love with you.
00:06:28Yeah.
00:06:29What's the reason?
00:06:30There was a time in the beginning of my career when I was having this tirade of nastiness just for
00:06:37being myself.
00:06:38And I think my gay audience may have related to that.
00:06:44I feel like I could go to war with my gay audience.
00:06:49And they were there way back when it was the most uncool thing.
00:06:53And I just want to say a heartfelt thank you to all of you for your support throughout the years.
00:07:00I just want you to know that I'm here for you.
00:07:07And the Grammy goes to...
00:07:09Kylie Minogue.
00:07:10Kylie Minogue.
00:07:11Kylie Minogue.
00:07:13Kylie Minogue.
00:07:14Kylie Minogue!
00:07:14Kylie Mingon.
00:07:14Kylie Minogue.
00:07:14Kylie Minogue.
00:07:16It felt great to be amongst people who are just celebrating you for being yourself.
00:07:23So...
00:07:24A few years ago, it seems that pop was a dirty word.
00:07:28No longer.
00:07:38What I've come to realise, I hope you're recording, is I might not be blessed with a voice from
00:07:48the heavens. I don't have anyone else's voice. What I have is my voice.
00:08:22First half was good, wasn't it? And it came in with a funny note.
00:08:28Yeah, yeah. Just stay on that, don't go apart, because it's a bit larger.
00:08:35Oh, okay. Okay. Try it. Good luck.
00:08:41Sorry.
00:09:06That's great. Well done.
00:09:08Yay! Best of luck. Come on, come on.
00:09:12Can I come in? One more take, then you're done.
00:09:16Lazy boot. Oh, God. Pop stars today.
00:09:25My final guest is a megastar of pop.
00:09:31Welcome, please, Kylie Minogue.
00:09:35The last time you came on the program, I talked about your relationships, and you've got a new
00:09:39fellow now. You're a Frenchman. Are Frenchmen better than English guys?
00:09:44How can I possibly say that?
00:09:49The next guest tonight is a French actor. Please welcome Olivier Martinez.
00:09:54I can't ride a motorbike, but I love being on the back of a motorbike. I love it.
00:10:02Especially if you're on the back of the bike of the man you love.
00:10:06But is he the one, though? Is Olivier the one?
00:10:09He could be. I don't know.
00:10:15This has got nothing to do with me. I feel that I'm in the world. I can see stuff and
00:10:19no one can see
00:10:20you. It's just, it's like freedom in Paris.
00:10:26And what about children? I mean, you're 35 now, but it's been a bit late, aren't you, 35?
00:10:31I'm aware of this one.
00:10:34It was not too late.
00:10:38But obviously, a woman of my age can't help but think about those things.
00:10:56Plus...
00:10:57All right, long at last. How are you getting on?
00:10:59I'm headlining Glastonbury, which was a huge, a huge deal.
00:11:05It was a really good idea.
00:11:08Because I was a pop artist.
00:11:11Okay, bye.
00:11:14People like me didn't headline Glastonbury.
00:11:20You let us know when you're coming.
00:11:24When I've watched other people perform there.
00:11:30Trying to take in the breadth of that audience
00:11:36is kind of impossible.
00:11:41So, it was huge.
00:11:43And I was ready for it.
00:11:46The event is expected to be sold out in just seven hours.
00:11:55So, life was...
00:11:56It was good.
00:11:59But I am a fatalist.
00:12:01Somewhere out there, they're looking down saying,
00:12:03all right, this is the bit where she thinks she's got it together
00:12:05and it's all going to go pear-shaped.
00:12:15Okay, and...
00:12:17Later!
00:12:18Later!
00:12:20Later!
00:12:20Later!
00:12:20I don't believe the wind
00:12:21of the president says it's found
00:12:32Out!
00:12:33But I was really tired.
00:12:37I remember...
00:12:39I don't know, like just putting my head down a bit more often.
00:12:44A few more photos of me just out.
00:12:48One more straight away.
00:12:50Do it once more, once more.
00:12:53And there was not a lot of me anyway.
00:12:57It was pretty tiny, but I was like a little bit tinier.
00:13:04How are you feeling?
00:13:07I can't actually speak just yet.
00:13:09Sorry.
00:13:10I'm having it.
00:13:11I'll leave.
00:13:13The lady back!
00:13:15I kept saying, maybe I'm too old for this.
00:13:23Well, I was ill and I didn't know I was ill.
00:13:31It's cancer we're talking about, but I don't even think I said the word.
00:13:34Yep, yeah.
00:13:38But at the time I was on a world tour and I was due on stage in two or three
00:13:44days, so I
00:13:46had to have a pretty good reason not to turn up.
00:13:53But then I had a check in London to check a lump and was told it's fine.
00:14:09And let's just put it this way, by the time I got to Australia, it wasn't fine.
00:14:21I went for a screening.
00:14:26And a few biopsies later, they told me the news.
00:14:34I just kind of fell into a chair and then left in a total daze.
00:14:43What's happened?
00:14:45What does that mean?
00:14:47It's like the Earth's just on a different axis or like reality.
00:14:52Where's reality gone?
00:14:53Nothing felt real and yet it couldn't be more real.
00:15:00Did you and Kylie argue when you were younger?
00:15:03Of course.
00:15:05Sisters.
00:15:07I was in London.
00:15:09My parents phoned me.
00:15:12They said, look, we didn't want to do this on the phone, but we need to let you know Kylie's
00:15:20not well.
00:15:23And that you've got pretty much 24 hours to get back to Australia before the news is going to hit.
00:15:30But it's a 26 hour flight away.
00:15:38There's the one thing that's me and my family.
00:15:41But the second thing is this news.
00:15:43What do we say and what do we do?
00:15:46Because if we said it, that was it.
00:15:49Got the headlines?
00:15:50It would be all over the news.
00:15:52Government sets out its agenda.
00:15:55And I really needed stillness to try and compute what's happening.
00:16:03But my entire crew are making the stage and waiting for me.
00:16:11So, obviously the tour was cancelled.
00:16:16At six o'clock, the pop singer Kylie Minogue has been diagnosed with the early stages of breast cancer.
00:16:22The 36 year old star has postponed her world tour.
00:16:26The singer Kylie Minogue has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
00:16:29To supply chains that have been raised with her.
00:16:32To my parents, to speak to my sister.
00:16:38Then it threw out of London today to be with her sister.
00:16:44Somebody said, there's a film crew here, trying to get an interview with you.
00:16:49When I said, I haven't spoken to my sister yet.
00:16:55and my head was just jet-lagged
00:16:58and then I'm thinking,
00:17:00oh, shit, if this is what's happening here.
00:17:09The Minogue family have been reunited at the family home
00:17:12for one of the most difficult days they've faced.
00:17:20Intrusion at a level.
00:17:24That none of us had experienced.
00:17:27We're just wondering if there's any comment on reports
00:17:29that Kylie's back in Melbourne.
00:17:31In normal times, news of her disease
00:17:34would have been released several weeks later.
00:17:37But because there were concerts due to start here,
00:17:40they had to release the details of her illness right away.
00:17:45How's Kylie doing this morning?
00:17:47Everybody is very hungry for news,
00:17:49so we very much are at the ground floor, if you like, of this disease,
00:17:52almost as part of the family.
00:17:58We're going, oh, poor neighbours.
00:18:02Do you know how she's feeling?
00:18:07Yeah, she'll be fine.
00:18:08I'm sure she'll be fine.
00:18:09The worst point was
00:18:10Dad needed to go for a walk around the block with the dog.
00:18:14The dog needed to go for a walk around the block.
00:18:19And he couldn't get out of the gate.
00:18:24Nothing was healthy in any way.
00:18:28And it really, really made me angry.
00:18:36And there are reports that she will be going into hospital today.
00:18:41Do we know where she's going to be treated?
00:18:45It's understood the operation to remove the lump
00:18:48will take place at Cabrini Hospital,
00:18:50where security has been increased.
00:18:53Medical staff have been offered
00:18:55a serious amount of money to take photos.
00:19:00And I was feeling in the depths of...
00:19:06..absolute uncertainty.
00:19:09..and that was just the beginning.
00:19:12Kylie Minogue returned home late this afternoon,
00:19:16huddled on the back seat.
00:19:18And I was so scared of what was ahead of me.
00:19:29But thankfully, I had my family.
00:19:34So hypnotising, isn't it?
00:19:36Mm.
00:19:37Whoa, that's cool.
00:19:38And we're like, what did they say?
00:19:40Nothing.
00:19:41They're just staring at me.
00:19:42No matter what happens, I know.
00:19:45My brother, sister and my mum and dad
00:19:47will always be there for me.
00:19:49So 26 hours...
00:19:51We're there for each other.
00:19:52...and a paparazzi at the other end.
00:19:54And that's how our family rolls.
00:19:57So have you found the last few days of...
00:20:01..reflecting with people staring at you?
00:20:05How's that, babe?
00:20:09Interesting.
00:20:10Yeah.
00:20:10Yeah.
00:20:14We have never done anything like this before,
00:20:16so it's not as scary as I thought it might be, actually.
00:20:21I think it's cos we're in the dark.
00:20:24Oh, my God.
00:20:25Oh, yes.
00:20:28You've had such tenacity, really.
00:20:31Yeah.
00:20:32Well, I wonder where she got that from.
00:20:33You set the tone.
00:20:36My mum's always been there with me.
00:20:39But she is the opposite of Dan and I.
00:20:43Does not want to be on camera.
00:20:45I wish we could show a shot of Carol,
00:20:47because there she is.
00:20:48Can we see her, Ray?
00:20:50There she is.
00:20:51Heidi.
00:20:52Heidi.
00:20:53Good on you, Carol.
00:20:56She was on the road with me for all my early years.
00:21:00And my mum's just running away from the camera
00:21:02because she doesn't want to be seen.
00:21:03She's a hiding.
00:21:04Hand-washing all the dancer's clothes,
00:21:07hot-gluing Diamontis onto costumes.
00:21:09Nice.
00:21:09So this is my mother.
00:21:11Mum's pretty much seen it all.
00:21:15Yeah, we did drag you to Mardi Gras.
00:21:17That was hilarious.
00:21:19Oh, my God.
00:21:20When you met you two for the second time.
00:21:23And you'd forgotten you'd met them
00:21:25and the edge came running over going,
00:21:26Carol, Carol.
00:21:27She's going, who is that?
00:21:29Who is that?
00:21:29And I'm going,
00:21:30Ed, you two, you've met him before.
00:21:33You know, she's definitely rock and roll enough.
00:21:36Oh, I haven't met you.
00:21:37Oh.
00:21:38I'm excited.
00:21:39You are, I'm a no.
00:21:40You are.
00:21:41This is where I'm a beauty comes from.
00:21:44But if she didn't like something,
00:21:45she would have given a look.
00:21:46How are you?
00:21:47I'm fine.
00:21:49People I love.
00:21:50I think, oh, no, I had it once.
00:21:52I don't want it.
00:21:52They're just, they're still traumatised.
00:21:54You climbed out the window to go bowling
00:21:57and then mum turned up, finished my bowl.
00:22:00Yeah.
00:22:01I turned around and I will...
00:22:03Arms folded.
00:22:04Never, ever, ever feel...
00:22:07Because you have the look.
00:22:08It was like this.
00:22:08Yeah.
00:22:09I was back in.
00:22:09It was like Stephen's building.
00:22:10I walked up those stairs.
00:22:12It was like sparks and fire coming from you.
00:22:14And I stood at the trouble.
00:22:15But whenever the going got tough,
00:22:19she was there.
00:22:33When you tried your best that you thought succeed...
00:22:39So, everybody's kind of paced to see Kylie Minogue.
00:22:42We thought, well, we thought, well, shouldn't we kind of salute absent friends?
00:22:47When the tears come streaming down your face...
00:22:52I watched Glastonbury.
00:22:55Are you something you can't replace?
00:23:00From my bedroom...
00:23:04With a lot of emotion.
00:23:10Coldplay dedicated Fix You to me, so there I was just weeping.
00:23:23And I was a prisoner in the house.
00:23:26The thing is, wherever she's going to be treated, she would have to stay there for several months.
00:23:32And I remember saying to my parents, I can't stay here.
00:23:38I want to do my chemotherapy in Paris.
00:23:48But my dad really didn't want me to go.
00:23:50Like, I can only imagine as a parent your instinct to want to protect your child.
00:24:01Especially in that moment.
00:24:04But I said, I've just, I've got to go.
00:24:09And that was really hard.
00:24:23But my mum came with me, so there was someone keeping an eye on me.
00:24:32And that was such a blessing.
00:24:38Because I needed her now more than ever.
00:24:54So here we can see the cancer, which you can't see on the normal image.
00:25:00Here we can see the spread to the lymph nodes.
00:25:04I was in and out of hospital.
00:25:06If we can do a local or wide excision.
00:25:09Chemotherapy.
00:25:10Simple or radical.
00:25:12Radiotherapy.
00:25:14And facing a long journey.
00:25:20And I've been so self-conscious about losing my hair.
00:25:25And so first I cut it.
00:25:28And it's just like you hear about clumps.
00:25:34There's no other way to say clumps come out.
00:25:38So I buzz cut the whole thing.
00:25:44How did I feel?
00:25:47That was the least of my worries at that point in time.
00:25:51I remember the pain.
00:25:54Just to get down the street was a real achievement.
00:25:59I felt removed from my body.
00:26:04Removed from the world.
00:26:09And yeah, the mind goes to really dark places.
00:26:13The chemotherapy was so hard.
00:26:18Physically.
00:26:20Mentally.
00:26:23And you've met my sister.
00:26:25She's tiny.
00:26:29I remember mum calling me.
00:26:31She's like, we're in ICU again.
00:26:33She can't feel her fingers.
00:26:35And I'm not allowed to go in the room.
00:26:39We didn't know.
00:26:41If she's ever going to be well again.
00:26:50It was that bad.
00:26:51Like, is she going to live through this?
00:26:59Hi there, I'm...
00:27:01Take two.
00:27:02You mentioned your new single.
00:27:04So maybe you could say, hi, I'm Danny Minogue.
00:27:06At the time, I was working in London.
00:27:10Hi there, I'm Danny Minogue.
00:27:11And this is my new single.
00:27:13Nicole.
00:27:15So I could just pop over and get to see her.
00:27:19And it would give mum the break she needed for her sanity.
00:27:27I remember saying, if I could chop off one of my arms now and this would all go away, I
00:27:33would.
00:27:34I would.
00:27:37How'd it go?
00:27:38Your arms?
00:27:39Yeah.
00:27:40I just felt so helpless.
00:27:42Where are you up to today?
00:27:44There was nothing I could do for her.
00:27:46Done one full run through.
00:27:48We won't do a full run now, but we'll do a little bit.
00:27:51So you get a vibe.
00:27:53Which song do I get to hear?
00:27:56So, life's kind of action in your eyes.
00:27:59Get out of my way.
00:27:59What do I have to do?
00:28:00But then I thought about what had always kept us together.
00:28:08Okay, I'll play music.
00:28:09That's what I'll do.
00:28:17That went back to what we knew.
00:28:21Back to the beginning.
00:28:25That feeling of being around the record player again.
00:28:29That feeling of family.
00:28:31In the darkest days.
00:28:33Hey.
00:28:38So we're going with our hearts.
00:28:41Yes, all the rain.
00:28:42Danny would put the music on, get me moving a little bit.
00:28:45Oh, we're just.
00:28:47And mum was with us.
00:28:49Yes.
00:28:49In the stars we just.
00:28:50So it was like the girls.
00:28:54In the process of getting her better.
00:28:58Music kept us going.
00:29:07And one evening.
00:29:10During chemotherapy treatment.
00:29:12There was one little window.
00:29:14And through that little window.
00:29:17The Eiffel Tower started sparkling.
00:29:20And I was like, oh, she's sparkling for me.
00:29:23I thought, I'm not finished.
00:29:26This is not where I want to say goodbye.
00:29:35And the day that I might have one eyelash would be like, wow.
00:29:40Or the day I would put some, a little bit of makeup on.
00:29:44Was like a big, a big deal.
00:29:48It was so thrilling.
00:29:51I'm like, yep.
00:29:53Let's put times on.
00:30:05It's the first time we've seen Kylie headscarf free.
00:30:12And when I got out of the danger zone,
00:30:16there was still a long way to go.
00:30:21Hi Kylie.
00:30:22Hi Kylie.
00:30:24But I just wanted to be with my sister.
00:30:27Hi.
00:30:28Great.
00:30:29Yes.
00:30:30London Sun newspaper broke the news Kylie fans the world over have been waiting for.
00:30:36After months of chemotherapy,
00:30:38the pop princess has been declared cancer free.
00:30:50I've got to be with my sister.
00:30:52She's got to be with me.
00:30:53Let's get on.
00:30:54Give me some more love.
00:30:54She's got to be with me.
00:30:56I'm sorry.
00:30:56I'm the only one.
00:30:58I'm sorry.
00:31:00I'm sorry.
00:31:03You're not sorry.
00:31:04Oh, can we love you as one again?
00:31:11Oh, can we love you as one again?
00:31:15Oh, can we love you as one again?
00:31:18Oh, I'll say something.
00:31:23Oh, oh, oh, oh.
00:31:25Oh, oh, oh, oh.
00:31:32Experts call it the Kylie effect.
00:31:36A thousand more women a day are booking screenings.
00:31:40Now, in this exclusive interview,
00:31:43she talks for the first time about coping with cancer.
00:31:46You look incredible.
00:31:49Thanks.
00:31:50No, seriously.
00:31:51Like, glowy and healthy and sparkly eyes.
00:31:55Inspiring.
00:31:56Well, I'm happy to be here.
00:31:58I see things differently.
00:32:00I don't have strength.
00:32:01I don't have stamina.
00:32:02I don't have everything that I took for granted before.
00:32:05And I'm still going through it.
00:32:07It's not like, hey, it's all over and I'm...
00:32:09It doesn't stop like that, does it?
00:32:11No, it doesn't.
00:32:12I still have treatments.
00:32:13I didn't write much about my experience.
00:32:16Maybe in my life now I would,
00:32:18but I certainly didn't feel like this is the time
00:32:20to do an entire album about what I've just been through.
00:32:24It's a bit too close.
00:32:26Let's see.
00:32:27Was it a conscious decision by you
00:32:29that marriage and babies come later?
00:32:31Mmm, no.
00:32:32No, I've just...
00:32:35Just rolled along.
00:32:38Oh, here we go.
00:32:39Here we go.
00:32:40Oh.
00:32:42Huh.
00:32:42What is this?
00:32:44Um...
00:32:45I didn't think we'd get to there.
00:32:50There's...
00:32:50There's so much more to cancer than just you had it,
00:32:54you got through it and you're fine.
00:32:57Or you're fine for now.
00:33:01Um...
00:33:05I was 36 when I got my diagnosis.
00:33:08So already it's...
00:33:09You...
00:33:10You...
00:33:11Need to be thinking about...
00:33:13Children.
00:33:15So I...
00:33:16I did try.
00:33:17I even postponed my chemotherapy to...
00:33:20Try.
00:33:22Um...
00:33:23Which is quite scary at the time,
00:33:24because I just wanted...
00:33:26You just wanted...
00:33:27You want it...
00:33:28Out...
00:33:29Gone.
00:33:30I want to feel...
00:33:32Safe.
00:33:34I...
00:33:35I don't want this.
00:33:38Um...
00:33:39But yeah, I did...
00:33:42Try a few times with IVF.
00:33:45Always with such a...
00:33:47It was such a...
00:33:48Thread of hope.
00:33:52But I couldn't not try.
00:33:57She's just amazing with kids.
00:34:01She's always been good with kids.
00:34:06Just naturally...
00:34:07One.
00:34:08Incredible.
00:34:10Two.
00:34:10Two.
00:34:12One.
00:34:13Two.
00:34:14Good.
00:34:14I know I'll have children.
00:34:16Very good.
00:34:17I know that much.
00:34:18I wouldn't have just one.
00:34:20Right.
00:34:20I'd definitely have more than one.
00:34:21Okay.
00:34:24She's amazing...
00:34:25With her nephews.
00:34:30I never saw myself being a parent.
00:34:33And she always did.
00:34:36And that is...
00:34:44It's heartbreaking.
00:34:49I did try IVF...
00:34:51Like a number of times.
00:34:55If it had happened...
00:34:57It would have been just right...
00:34:59It's a miracle.
00:35:01But it didn't work out that way.
00:35:06So...
00:35:07This was...
00:35:08Like...
00:35:09A letter...
00:35:12To...
00:35:13What might have been.
00:35:17To...
00:35:18Distant tiles.
00:35:19My flower.
00:35:20Are you blowing in the breeze?
00:35:23Can you feel me as I breathe life into you?
00:35:28Wrapped in a blanket of hope.
00:35:30Asleep in a bed of dreams.
00:35:33My step into eternity is not what it might have been.
00:35:38Or not at all.
00:35:39For who knows which way the wind is gonna blow.
00:35:43Or not at all.
00:35:44For who knows which way the wind is gonna blow.
00:35:48Not at all.
00:35:49For who knows which way the wind is gonna blow.
00:35:51I'm waiting for your gentle whisper.
00:35:55Distant child, my flower.
00:35:57Are you blowing in the breeze?
00:36:00Can you feel me as I breathe life into you?
00:36:05Kids?
00:36:06Would you like some?
00:36:07At some stage?
00:36:08Yeah, I would love some.
00:36:10We have to see about that.
00:36:13Yeah.
00:36:17One can't help but wonder...
00:36:20What it would have been like.
00:36:23And...
00:36:24I'm so close to my family.
00:36:29It just...
00:36:30It wasn't...
00:36:31It wasn't my path.
00:36:34So that's what I was writing about.
00:36:36Like...
00:36:38Even if you didn't come to be...
00:36:41You're somewhere.
00:36:42We all become...
00:36:43Something.
00:36:44Even if it's...
00:36:46Ash and we become something else.
00:36:49So I was kind of hopeful...
00:36:51And realistic at the same time.
00:36:53That is the end of my box.
00:37:07Should we light a bonfire?
00:37:08I won't know.
00:37:12It's about the lights on the stairs.
00:37:14Yeah.
00:37:15Having had cancer, I said to my manager, call so and so and so and so.
00:37:22I understand if they don't want to work with me anymore.
00:37:26I just thought that that might be it.
00:37:28Hi.
00:37:30Hi.
00:37:32Oh, I knew it.
00:37:34I knew I'd come out with all emotional.
00:37:36Oh!
00:37:37Hi.
00:37:41I'll say hello in between.
00:37:43People had tickets to her music show.
00:37:45So we offered they could, you know, hand their tickets back in and they would reimburse them and...
00:37:55Nobody did.
00:37:56Come up.
00:37:57And miss two, three, four, five, six, and you go back to this.
00:38:02I heard that people held on to their tickets.
00:38:07We're here.
00:38:08When you're ready to come back, we're here.
00:38:14But I wasn't as strong.
00:38:16I wasn't as fit.
00:38:19They would have been concerned.
00:38:21Are you ready?
00:38:22Can you handle it?
00:38:24So I had a mountain to climb, but I didn't fancy hanging around at the bottom of the mountain.
00:38:32I was like, when can we fire up this tour again?
00:38:37No, no, you did this one.
00:38:40She was like, I just need to finish the tour.
00:38:42Like, she's so professional.
00:38:44One, two, three.
00:38:47I'm like, oh, for God's sake, we need to keep you alive.
00:38:51This one's slower.
00:38:53Then when you do the last one.
00:38:54She was determined, right?
00:38:56Let's not think the worst.
00:38:58See what I mean?
00:38:59Yeah, yeah.
00:38:59Step, and then from here you're walking.
00:39:01You're bringing the hand up.
00:39:02You still happy to work?
00:39:03Yeah, yeah.
00:39:04Yeah, I just wanted to feel able again.
00:39:08That's what I wanted to feel.
00:39:09Able.
00:39:11One, two, three, four.
00:39:13One, two, three, four.
00:39:19You could look at it that it's just a show.
00:39:22Follow.
00:39:24Nice.
00:39:25But it's not just a show to me.
00:39:27Is it here?
00:39:29It's my other home.
00:39:31Good news for Kylie Minogue fans.
00:39:33Her concert's back on in what she's now calling her homecoming tour.
00:39:36The tour will be going ahead.
00:39:38Obviously, she's still got a few mountains to climb.
00:39:41Okay.
00:39:42All right.
00:39:43Just let's take a break.
00:39:46But it wasn't easy.
00:39:51I felt so drained.
00:39:53Just take it gently.
00:39:55I felt like my body was a battleground.
00:39:58Go quicker.
00:40:00It was such an effort to get up to show speed again.
00:40:03Just give me a shout if it's painful.
00:40:09I had to find the strength in my voice again.
00:40:13Do a little bit of toilette.
00:40:14Just a touch.
00:40:15Okay.
00:40:17I didn't actually know if I could do it.
00:40:21Oh, here we are.
00:40:23But then I started to get letters.
00:40:30Kylie, I've never written to a celebrity before,
00:40:33but after years of dancing around my bedroom,
00:40:35singing into my hairbrush, pretending to be you,
00:40:38I couldn't not write and tell you I'm thinking of you.
00:40:41I felt very sad when I heard you were not very well.
00:40:44I would love to see you again in concert.
00:40:46My mum is trying to get some tickets for your show.
00:40:49If you ever get scared,
00:40:50just know that in every single second of every single day,
00:40:54one of your fans is thinking of you.
00:40:57It's just beautiful to know that other people
00:41:01loved her like we did.
00:41:06Dear Kylie,
00:41:07you'll go look well soon.
00:41:09Oh, it says, I think, get well soon.
00:41:14These letters in really dark moments,
00:41:18they meant so much to me.
00:41:29Okay, they've left you out,
00:41:32but it still made it to me.
00:41:38That support really kept her going.
00:41:43Think of you cheering you on.
00:41:46Sorry about the envelope.
00:41:48I couldn't afford a card.
00:41:49Kiss, kiss, kiss.
00:41:51Oh!
00:41:53Oh!
00:41:55Kylie Minogue arrived at Sydney Airport
00:41:58as she prepares for her first performance.
00:42:04One, two, three, go!
00:42:08She's back.
00:42:09Kylie Minogue is back in town.
00:42:12We knew she was coming, Sydney.
00:42:13The tickets are sold out.
00:42:14No one else can get tickets.
00:42:16Go!
00:42:20Every single person I know is going to this show.
00:42:23Every single person I know is going to this show.
00:42:29What's happening in two hours?
00:42:42There you go.
00:42:44Have a good night.
00:42:4620 minutes.
00:42:4820 minutes?
00:42:49Mm-hmm.
00:42:50Ha!
00:42:52Ha!
00:42:54Ha!
00:42:56Ha!
00:42:58Ha!
00:43:03Oh!
00:43:06This is a song which was written
00:43:09after coming through cancer.
00:43:13Wave of love coming over me.
00:43:16Got the sound of you ringing in my ears.
00:43:21Sun coming up on another day.
00:43:23Got a second-hand chance.
00:43:25Oh, my God!
00:43:29Trying to hide.
00:43:38Got a second-hand chance.
00:43:40Gonna do it again, girl, rainbow.
00:43:42Colours and no more rain.
00:43:52So, I was trying to flash forward to being, I just keep trying to get back on stage.
00:43:59Life makes sense to me on stage.
00:44:09Glitter drop fall.
00:44:10That's the stage to me.
00:44:12Got a glitter drop fall and I'm on my knees.
00:44:14I wanted to, like, fall to my knees on the stage.
00:44:18Got the sound of you ringing in my ears.
00:44:28Sun coming up on another day.
00:44:31Got a second-hand chance.
00:44:32Gonna do it again.
00:44:34Got rainbow collars and no more rain.
00:44:54And love carries the hurt that you hold.
00:44:57Funny how life can't unfold.
00:44:58Oh, yeah, it feels like a wave of love.
00:45:07But I didn't come through all of that and think, pop music.
00:45:11Who cares?
00:45:16In this game of things, it's not that important.
00:45:22But in that moment, it actually means everything.
00:45:25Let's go home.
00:45:33Bye.
00:45:38Bye.
00:45:45Say you won't leave me no more.
00:45:49I'll take you back again
00:45:53No more excuses, no, no
00:45:57Cause I've heard them all before
00:46:01A hundred times before
00:46:07I'll forgive and forget
00:46:11If you say I'll never go
00:46:14Cause it's true
00:46:17What they say
00:46:19It's better than I've ever been born
00:46:24Oh, oh
00:46:38I was saved
00:46:41I really was
00:46:49of course you learn what resilience means and what love means
00:46:59unbelievable just fantastic
00:47:05I just unbelievable can't wait for a second
00:47:10dad is dancing oh no he's doing the dad dance
00:47:17but having had cancer one important thing to know is still the same person and I
00:47:25remember coming out the other end feeling more like myself than ever before
00:47:37oh
00:47:38oh
00:47:38oh
00:47:39oh
00:48:19And I had unfinished business, let's put it that way.
00:48:26Okay, Kylie has some big news.
00:48:28What is it?
00:48:29Yeah, she's announced that she's going to be performing at Glastonbury Festival.
00:48:33Read my lips.
00:48:34Well, just do that.
00:48:35Yeah.
00:48:35But my nerves were off the charts.
00:48:41I couldn't even say the word Glastonbury, it was like, that's the short show.
00:48:45Short show completely depends on the audience.
00:48:50Disappointment for many Glastonbury fans, tickets sold out in 40 minutes this morning.
00:48:55The event will host around 200,000 visitors.
00:48:59This is live to TV.
00:49:00This is...
00:49:00It's happening.
00:49:03Kayla says she is thrilled to be playing.
00:49:05So this will be amazeballs.
00:49:11Straight into Lucky?
00:49:12No tribes.
00:49:14No tribes.
00:49:15No tribes.
00:49:15Okay, tribes.
00:49:16Mm-hmm.
00:49:16And I was terrified that it would be like Spinal Tap.
00:49:24It's kind of my job to be anxious.
00:49:26Or is it my job to pretend I'm not anxious?
00:49:27I can not do nothing.
00:49:28The more I try, I try to stop.
00:49:31The more I can feel.
00:49:33There's huge props on this stage.
00:49:36Oh!
00:49:37Oh!
00:49:38Oh!
00:49:39Oh!
00:49:42In the days when 410, I remember practically redecorating my house.
00:49:49Like, I'm just going to do something, I'm just going to, you know, do the...
00:49:53I do get kind of busy with decoration.
00:49:59That looks more chic than my entire life.
00:50:01Hi there.
00:50:02Hi.
00:50:03I just need to busy myself.
00:50:05Like, yep, get the garlands.
00:50:07We'll string the garlands up.
00:50:09What's she doing?
00:50:10Just leave her be.
00:50:17Tomorrow, the Pyramid Stage opens at one of the greatest festivals in the world.
00:50:23And for many people who play here, especially if it's their first gig,
00:50:29this really is the calm before the storm.
00:50:52And the top story this lunchtime.
00:50:54Kylie will be getting her wellies and waterproofs ready, just in case.
00:50:57It's the first time she's ever played Glastonbury.
00:51:01Here's a look at the line-up.
00:51:03She'll be joined at the festival by artists such as The Killers, Hosea Thunpire Weekend.
00:51:08In 2005, yeah, people like me didn't really get to play Glastonbury.
00:51:15Some legends in there as well, such as Interpol, Wu-Tang Clan and The Cure.
00:51:20And so I didn't know if anyone would show up for me.
00:51:26So we are almost at the time.
00:51:29And I can feel the excitement.
00:51:31Kylie Minogue on the Pyramid Stage.
00:51:38I was so nervous.
00:51:40You can't even imagine.
00:51:43But someone said before David Bowie played Glastonbury, he couldn't talk to anyone.
00:51:50I felt a lot better.
00:51:53Even if you're David Bowie, he's still nervous.
00:52:12But it was all.
00:52:35Thank you so much.
00:52:53It was such a wave of love.
00:52:58Isn't that an incredible sight?
00:53:02Do you see yourself?
00:53:03I had so much goodness from so many people.
00:53:06Can you see yourself?
00:53:08Who were there and beyond.
00:53:12Who had willed me to reach that stage.
00:53:17Dance.
00:53:19It's all I want to do, so won't you dance?
00:53:23It really was a point where I felt like,
00:53:26I think I might have, I think I might have done it.
00:53:47It would have been rude to not allow that to come in, because it was a marker that I wasn't
00:53:55able to give myself.
00:53:59Fear.
00:54:01Can't you see there's so much you to feel?
00:54:04Deep inside your heart you know I'm real.
00:54:09Can't you see that this is going higher, higher, higher, higher, higher.
00:54:15Breathe.
00:54:16I think it was the most watched last and brief performance of all time.
00:54:20It was beautiful to see how much love was directed at her.
00:54:24You know what the world loves essentially about Kylie is that she really went through something.
00:54:29That's the definition of joy in a way, which is that capacity to be able to sort of rise out
00:54:37of a certain suffering.
00:54:39I love you!
00:54:48And to see the world in a positive way.
00:54:54Her connection with the audience, it's not phony.
00:55:03It's very real for her.
00:55:06It is a true form of love, and that on some level is enough.
00:55:23Little Kylie got there.
00:55:35The one and only Mr Nick Kane!
00:55:42Were our fans nicer to you this time?
00:55:44I think they just looked at me with a kind of pity.
00:55:51Oh, he's back again.
00:56:21Great! Great chat! Let's go!
00:56:24Shall we talk about the future?
00:56:28I'm probably spending more time here, in this lovely peaceful environment.
00:56:35And, you know, discovering whatever that thing called balance is.
00:56:41You should have been in the industry for a long time.
00:56:43It's a long time. I mean, we've seen you grow up.
00:56:46How do you think you can last?
00:56:49There's a lot of borderline insulting questions about my age these days.
00:56:53And being a woman in the industry, when do you stop?
00:56:56How long can you go on?
00:56:58I can't envisage an old grey Kylie Minogue doing all that kind of stuff.
00:57:03No, I don't know. I don't think anyone knows how long it will go for.
00:57:07And I don't know how long I'll want it to go for.
00:57:10There may come a day where I'll think,
00:57:11OK, I'd really like to sort of stop.
00:57:16So there's definitely times where I think, what would happen if I got off the merry-go-round?
00:57:23Just did nothing.
00:57:32But I am my own worst enemy.
00:57:36It's like, go away, everyone.
00:57:39Where is everyone?
00:57:44Maximum three days between those two phrases.
00:57:47Sometimes just a few hours.
00:57:52Breaking news. Kylie put out the single from her 16th album.
00:57:57No signs she's slowing down.
00:58:01Next thing.
00:58:03We're going on tour.
00:58:05Kylie is back with a song people are saying is her raciest single yet.
00:58:13And it's an absolute banger.
00:58:15The year's biggest dancing.
00:58:17What? What?
00:58:19Kylie! Oh my God!
00:58:27It felt like I was just getting started.
00:58:30It's the song of the summer.
00:58:33And it's going viral.
00:58:42The Grammy goes to Padam Padam Kylie Minogue.
00:59:06Chinook Knock!
00:59:12Welcome.
00:59:14Welcome.
00:59:16Wow.
00:59:17Welcome, lovely.
00:59:18You all?
00:59:19Hi.
00:59:19Hi. Hi. Oh, gosh. Hi.
00:59:24Hey, hey, hey.
00:59:26So, we've been running through songs, running through vocals.
00:59:30And we're getting there.
00:59:31Maybe start with the least done.
00:59:53I've got to get him out.
01:00:04Can I ask?
01:00:06What's K you like to work with?
01:00:08Oh.
01:00:10Nightmare.
01:00:11That's what I'm saying, right?
01:00:26Well, it's 25 years we've been writing songs together.
01:00:35Everyone says about the joy of you, but it's more than that.
01:00:39Right, what have we got next?
01:00:41We've written songs that probably no-one will ever know what they're about apart from you and me.
01:00:45And to hear them live is really difficult. Beautiful, but difficult.
01:00:49This time of year.
01:00:53This time of year.
01:00:55Sorry.
01:00:56That's right.
01:00:57That's right.
01:00:58That's right.
01:00:59I forgot.
01:00:59Avoid eye contact.
01:01:00No, my phone.
01:01:01No, my phone.
01:01:03This time of year.
01:01:05Shit.
01:01:06This time of year.
01:01:08Okay, we've got this.
01:01:10There's a song that we wrote.
01:01:12A song called Story.
01:01:15Story.
01:01:16And Story was written because...
01:01:20I...
01:01:27My second cancer diagnosis was in early 2021.
01:01:38I don't want it.
01:01:39I just...
01:01:40So...
01:01:44I was able to keep that to myself and go through that year.
01:01:50And...
01:01:50Not like the first time.
01:01:52I don't even think...
01:01:53Do you know?
01:01:53I don't think...
01:01:54You don't know this.
01:01:59Um...
01:01:59Ooh!
01:02:08Well...
01:02:09I've been trying to find the right...
01:02:14The right time to say it.
01:02:16I don't feel obliged to tell the world.
01:02:19And actually I just couldn't at the time because I was...
01:02:24I was just a shell of a person.
01:02:30I didn't want to leave the house again at one point.
01:02:32Okay.
01:02:35But um...
01:02:35But um...
01:02:36Opened so many doors for me.
01:02:37But...
01:02:38On the inside.
01:02:39I knew that cancer wasn't just a blip in my life.
01:02:43Throw cameras.
01:02:45Yes.
01:02:47And I really just wanted to say...
01:02:51What happened?
01:02:53Kylie, good morning.
01:02:54Welcome to...
01:02:54So I can let go of it.
01:02:56Hi.
01:02:56How are you?
01:02:57Well, we're great.
01:02:59And I've got to say...
01:03:00Congratulations on the album.
01:03:01I've sit through interviews.
01:03:03The reviews have been...
01:03:05And every opportunity I thought...
01:03:06Now's the time.
01:03:08How are you feeling right now?
01:03:10But I kept it to myself.
01:03:13So I needed to...
01:03:16Have something that marked that time.
01:03:21Do you know the chords?
01:03:23Yeah.
01:03:25Do I know the lyrics?
01:03:27Oh, just cry my eyes out.
01:03:29How can I sing?
01:03:30Look up there the one.
01:03:32Look up there the one.
01:03:32Look up there the one.
01:03:33Okay, let's try it.
01:03:35And what we ended up with...
01:03:39Was something that said what I wanted to say.
01:03:42I had a secret that I kept to myself, yeah.
01:03:48I had a one way ticket that was going nowhere.
01:03:55You could be the one.
01:03:58You could be my son.
01:03:59Thankfully, I got through it.
01:04:01The world's gone.
01:04:01Again.
01:04:02Take away the light.
01:04:04And all is well.
01:04:08Hey, who knows what's around the corner.
01:04:14But pop music nurtures me.
01:04:19Pop can elate you if you're feeling depressed.
01:04:22It can soothe you.
01:04:24It can be a type of salvation for some people.
01:04:29Everything will be alright.
01:04:33My passion for music is greater than ever.
01:04:36There's that song that hasn't been written.
01:04:38There's that person to read.
01:04:41So, my story continues.
01:04:43And you are part of my story.
01:04:45I didn't walk on the wild side.
01:04:48Or fall in the night sky.
01:04:50I didn't let the world know.
01:04:52I, I.
01:04:52I was fighting the big fight.
01:04:55Turning the spotlight.
01:04:56Raging hot on the other side.
01:05:03Hot on the other side.
01:05:11You.
