00:00Green jobs are on the rise. Where are most people employed?
00:08Jobs in the EU's green economy have grown by more than 2 million in less than 10 years,
00:13according to Eurostat. There were just 3.6 million of them in 2014,
00:18but they climbed to 5.8 million in 2023, with an average annual increase of 5.5 percentage points.
00:26Which activities are fueling this growth? Employment in the EU green economy ranges from
00:33environmental protection, like wastewater and forest management, to renewable energy production
00:38and housing energy efficiency. The largest green job field in Europe is waste management,
00:46employing nearly 1 million people. Energy savings is in second place with more than 800,000 professionals,
00:53followed by renewables at 785,000. Soil and groundwater protection is also relevant,
01:01employing nearly 680,000 people, ahead of wastewater management and it's over half a million workers.
01:08The EU green economy has been growing steadily since 2014, with an average annual output increase of
01:15nearly 8%. In less than 10 years, member states nearly doubled their output, generating 1.33 billion euros in 2023,
01:25with waste management being the largest source of income.
