00:00The race is on to lead the next wave of cleantech innovation. So we're debating the latest trends
00:14in green growth with guests from Europe and China in a special Euronews collaboration with CGTN.
00:20Here are some of the highlights.
00:23Who do you think is going to lead the next wave of green growth?
00:27I do see China, Europe, US, as well as many other self-developing countries really coming together.
00:34China has its own strength in terms of scaling, in terms of pace, in terms of affordability,
00:41driving down the cost, industrial capability there. But in the meantime, EU definitely has
00:46very strong capability in terms of investing in innovation, regulation standards, as well as
00:53actually a market there as well.
00:55Climate scientists tell us we need to have a 5% drop in emissions every year if we want
01:00to stabilise global warming. China is still a huge emitter, but its emissions seem to be
01:05flat or they're falling now. What's behind that?
01:08I think it's a very interesting market signal towards Europe that China is well-planned and
01:15well-committed to its decarbonisation journey.
01:18decarbonisation is the future and it's time to get moving faster. And in some ways it's a race,
01:26but it's a positive race because it's one where everybody wins. We get clean air, cheap electricity,
01:32better quality food.
01:33The digital economy is a key engine for a sustainable future in areas such as artificial intelligence
01:38for smart grids, digitalisation of industries and green fintech.
01:45Everybody is winning with the digitalisation and artificial intelligence. If we imagine that we are able to share in between China and Europe digital twins, for example, in industry, then it means that we will all be able to partner, to
02:03co-develop new platforms and factories. And we will accelerate the duplication, the launching of new large projects. Then we will decarbonise the industry and the world.
02:18Both EU and China have the ambition to be global leaders to deal with climate change. And both have the capacity and resources and innovative power to try to be the leader. If the two can really come to work together, I think that will be a blessing to the entire world, particularly to those least developed countries.
