00:15Hello and welcome to Kent Student 101 live here on KMTV. I'm Jude Moulton and this is
00:21a program for students made by students. We've got so much in store for you from
00:27making healthy, affordable meals to showing you your next late night binge
00:31watch and answering any burning questions students may have. We've got it all
00:36here just for you. First this week is Macro Meals where we show you ways of
00:40creating better eating habits around student life. When cooking on a budget a
00:45worry for many students is that there's only so many options so James Connelly
00:50is here to show you a unique way to use simple ingredients. Let's see what he
00:55made. Hello and welcome to this week's Macro Meals where we teach you how to
01:02make cheap, healthy, affordable meals. This week we'll be making stuffed bell
01:05peppers, a fun way to use staple house ingredients in the kitchen. Let's get
01:10started. The ingredients and macros will be on the screen now. Further information
01:18can be found on the NHS website.
01:24Chop the tops of your peppers and roughly chop them into even pieces and make sure
01:28to de-seed them. Finely chop your onion and garlic and set this aside.
01:36You'll want to brown your mince on a medium to high heat. Once cooked you can
01:40add all of your chopped vegetables in with the mince and you can keep cooking
01:43until the veg has become translucent or soft to the touch of the back of your
01:47cooking utensil. Season well with any preferred herbs and spices. I used a
01:52combo of mixed Italian herbs, paprika, black pepper and onion powder. Next you can
01:57stir in your tinned tomatoes and cauliflower rice and cook until simmering, not
02:01boiling. Once cooked you can fill the peppers with the mixture. Fill it carefully
02:07and not too much as this could cause spilling whilst in the oven and make sure to be
02:11very careful with handling as the filling is very hot. This recipe can also mean
02:16there's lots of leftover filling which is perfect to have in other dishes or just
02:20to keep as meal prep for another day. This dish is customisable to your taste buds
02:24so have a go at using different vegetables into the meal. Next you'll want to
02:28sprinkle your grated cheese on top of the peppers then you're ready to bake. 15
02:34minutes at 180 degrees should be enough but keep an eye on them whilst cooking to
02:38avoid burns and make sure to leave to cool before serving. Here's the final product
02:42time for a taste test. It's really good. That's all the time we have for for this
02:48week's macro meals. Next is this week's Digital Gems where we spotlight some series
02:57filmed and produced right here in Kent. This week Izzy Kenny joins me to speak
03:03about a drama from the 1980s all about an all-female detective agency. Let's hear her thoughts on it.
03:16So Izzy what is the Digital Gem you have found this week?
03:19So this week I've been watching Cat's Eyes which is a crime drama following Maggie Forbes
03:24who joins an all-female private detective agency called Eyes. However this is a cover for their
03:29home office which is called Cat's. It was film produced and edited in Kent with a lot
03:34of the filming being done in Chatton Dockyards. It was very popular when it
03:38released in 1985 especially because of its feminist narrative which was very
03:42different for the time and it is like 40 years on from now it's a little bit
03:47outdated but I still think it's so great to have like a female centered cast
03:51especially in a traditionally male-dominated space. And they face new
03:56obstacles every episode but can you tell me this tell me some stuff about the
03:59pilot sorry. Yeah so the pilot is a little bit long it's 90 minutes however it's
04:05fine the others are 50 but a lot does happen. Maggie joins Prue and Fred on cats
04:12and on it's unfortunately on the same day that Jenny who was their third member
04:16gets killed whilst investigating a sunken Russian ship but the trio avenges
04:21Jenny's death in a cat-and-mouse chase with the Russians but we see the women
04:26come together at the end of the episode and work together to fend off the KGB
04:30members. And obviously the main character of this show appears in another show too
04:35can tell us a bit more about that? Yeah so this is actually a spin-off of a show
04:39called The Gentle Touch from 1983 where Maggie navigates her career as a
04:44detective in the male-dominated London police force while she's also
04:47searching for her husband's killer sorry. She was actually the first British
04:52female detective portrayed in television which is amazing and with this
04:57context in mind I think it's really empowering to see her go from being the
05:01only woman on her team to then having you know a full women team and yeah where
05:06they all support each other. Thank you so much for joining me today, Izzy.
05:16Next up is this week's KMTV Cribs where we spotlighted the many ways students
05:21decorate their living spaces and why. So this week we visit Emily Loizu to see how
05:27she used her love for art and travel to turn her room into a home. Let's take a look.
05:41Hey my name is Emily I'm a third year film student studying at the University of
05:46Kairn and let me show you my crib.
05:54So at my desk I usually do my makeup here, I enjoy doing art here.
06:00So the last art piece I did was just two dolphins in the ocean. I've been trying to
06:07get better at like doing textures and stuff. Yeah I guess I've just got
06:13collections of postcards that I sort of gathered over the years from like art
06:19galleries or this one I got from Berlin, it's the Berlin Wall, this one I got in
06:24New York and sometimes I get them from charity shops as well. I have some of my
06:32boyfriend's drawings up because yes sometimes sometimes he'll draw me cards
06:38or just draw me pictures we met at an art club. I would advise if you need
06:44anything for your rooms like look secondhand first because you can find
06:47nearly apart from I guess furniture and things but if you're looking to decorate
06:52it will like I wouldn't go to fast fashion. I have been to a few countries and so I
07:02like to collect little memorabilia from all the places I've been so things like
07:07postcards and here I have a ticket into a museum in Berlin and then this is a
07:15boarding pass to Dallas. I tried to do a year abroad in New Mexico for two
07:20months. So I live on the bottom floor which I feel a lot of my friends say
07:25don't you feel uncomfortable because everybody on the street can look in. Well
07:29I found a really clever solution. I found these window stickers where it still
07:36lets the light through but from the outside it blurs everything so nobody can
07:41look inside. I would say though with these stickers to make sure to check with
07:45your landlord. And thank you so much for coming to my room. This has been this
07:49week's KMTV Cribs. Bye!
07:53Welcome us to your home. KM, KMTV Cribs.
08:02So you've sent off your application. The response was positive and now all
08:06that's left between you and a potential career is the interview. So in this week's
08:11Student 101 Support, KMTV's Channel Director, Andy Richards is here to speak
08:15with me about the experience from the other side of the table.
08:24So Andy thank you so much for joining me today. No problem, Jim. I feel like
08:27interviews can be a very nerve-racking for potential job candidates, right? So what
08:32is going through your mind as an employer? I'm just looking at the most important
08:36thing. Someone's enthusiastic. It sounds really simple but they actually want the
08:40job. Believe it or not, I have had instances when I've been interviewing
08:44people and I've said, how much do you want the job? And they go, well you know I'd
08:48quite like it. So you have to show enthusiasm. So that's what I'm first
08:51looking for in that interview. And also that again that you've come in
08:56professional, don't bring a drink in with you, that's happened to me. Chew chewing gum,
09:00that's happened to me. All those types of things. So in my first kind of
09:04instance when I'm looking at someone when they come into a job interview, I'm
09:07seeing how they present themselves, if they're a professional or not. And can
09:10you tell us about a time you were kind of impressed at a job interview or what
09:15differentiated themselves? Good question. It's about being memorable, right? So it's
09:19taking, there's been a couple of instances when people have taken more
09:23time to really kind of understand what we are as a business or they'll look at
09:27people who have already worked at KMTV or mentioned somebody who works there,
09:32particularly when we're in broadcasting, you know, it's all there to see. You can
09:35see it online, you can look up at package, you can look packages up. So I've been
09:38impressed before when people have taken a more deeper dive into what we do as a
09:42business. And is this something that a candidate can do to possibly lose them the
09:47job? Yeah, like I said, coming in and saying that you don't actually want the
09:51job, that's not a good start. That honestly has happened to me before where
09:57they said, yeah, I'm not sure, but I thought I'd come along anyway. That will
10:01lose you the job immediately. That's, again, that's a tip for me. If you have
10:05applied to a job and if you've managed to get yourself an interview and you're not
10:08sure, go to the job as if you want it. That's my big, and then if you get offered
10:13the job in the end, then it's your decision whether to take it or not. But
10:18don't let the interviewer know that you're umming and ahhing whether you really
10:21want that position or not. And is there any like common mistakes that some people make
10:25during the interview process? Yeah, eye contact is really important. You need to
10:29make sure that you're looking at the people that you're speaking to. If it's a
10:33virtual interview as well, make sure you're looking at the camera rather than
10:37the screen. Think about what's in the background. Again, I've done some virtual
10:40interviews and I've been so put off by what's on and going on in the background.
10:45There's all sorts. I've had people walking in in dressing gowns before in the
10:49background of graduates when I'm trying to conduct the job interview. So thinking
10:54about what's around you is a really important thing as well.
10:57Cool. Thank you so much for joining me today.
10:59No problem.
