00:00He's with John Boy Media, he hosts American Gladiators, he's all over the NFL Network,
00:05and he's probably not real happy right now.
00:08Hello, Chris.
00:09Hello, Chris.
00:11Yeah, somebody told me that Baskin asked how grumpy I was going to be today.
00:15That's true.
00:16I'm sorry that I come off as grumpy.
00:18My apology.
00:19No, it's not that.
00:20I'll be nice and chipper and happy.
00:22How about that?
00:23I mean, I, you know.
00:26Who's the rat fake that told you?
00:27I couldn't have something else to do with 15 minutes of my life.
00:29Who's the rat fink that told you that I said that?
00:32Because I want to know that person.
00:33Someone told you.
00:35I said to Jeff, I go, man, I wonder if Chris is going to be grumpy about, you know, about
00:40the game the way we are.
00:42That's all.
00:43Mm-hmm.
00:44Got it.
00:45Got it, Andy.
00:46Gotcha.
00:49I'm done.
00:50You know what?
00:51Never mind.
00:51I was going to make a university school joke.
00:53I'll let it go.
00:54I'll let it go.
00:55Uncle.
00:56Well, Chris, what'd you think of the game, then?
01:00It's insightful.
01:01Hey, what'd you think of the game?
01:03Hey, that's high-level media communication school right there to ask a question like that.
01:09Oh, okay.
01:11So.
01:12Here comes the grumpy.
01:13I go through life trying to be a problem solver.
01:18I really think that there are people who just like to bitch and moan and complain, but don't give an
01:26alternative to how to rectify situations.
01:32So, last night, as we're watching things disintegrate, and by the way, I am going to hold all of my
01:40timeouts until the end of this conversation.
01:42Yes.
01:43There we go.
01:44That's the Chris Rose we love.
01:45Here's a room shot.
01:46Room shot somewhere.
01:50That when things aren't going well, you got to point the finger somewhere.
01:55You could point it out, or you could point it in.
01:59And when you're pointing it out, it's going to other people, and when you're pointing it in, it's going toward
02:04yourself.
02:06I made a point last night not to listen to the post-game press conferences.
02:11I was so in shambles based on what happened that I couldn't watch inside the NBA.
02:20I couldn't watch anything that's on my Twitter feed.
02:22I have blown past.
02:24I've read the quotes.
02:25I cannot listen to Kenny Atkinson because I can't believe what came out of his mouth afterward, saying that we
02:33were actually okay with what happened with James Harden defensively, that we actually got unlucky.
02:39I cannot believe that is such a lack of leadership, and it's borderline coaching malpractice, that I hope that our
02:48players have the chance to respond.
02:50The fact that Donovan Mitchell was the one that had to come out and say, we effed up, and that's
02:56on us, and we've got to be better, and we're down 1-0.
02:59Like, that should be the coach that's saying that.
03:03Not your star player should say it, too.
03:06But for God's sake, your coach cannot say, well, we got a little unlucky, and we actually liked what we
03:11were doing.
03:11Who liked what we were doing defensively?
03:15Who?
03:15Who liked it?
03:17I did until the fourth quarter.
03:19I have defended the move for James Harden for one reason and one reason only.
03:26We got caught too much in recent years with Darius Garland getting caught on switches and being too little.
03:34And James Harden through the first two rounds, you can say what you want about him being in his late
03:3830s and not being as mobile and athletic as he once was.
03:42So it's all true.
03:43But one thing he wasn't was killing us on defense because he's still 6'6", and he's hard to move.
03:51Well, guess what?
03:52They got a guy who loves being in ISO against guys and is super creative, and he got hot in
04:00the fourth quarter.
04:01And for some reason, we didn't make an adjustment.
04:04I don't know why.
04:06The minute that Robinson's not on the floor, you don't need both of our big guys out there.
04:11One guy, and really it's Mobley.
04:14Mobley can guard Cat.
04:15Cat wasn't a part of the offense in the fourth quarter.
04:18So take Jared Allen off the floor.
04:21Put screws on or somebody else that can move a little bit more.
04:27James Harden wasn't lighting it up offensively.
04:30He wasn't.
04:31He was turning it over in the fourth.
04:33He did a really good job not turning it over at times during the game.
04:37But there was no point of having him out there.
04:39He was getting killed.
04:42How did nobody on the coaching staff went up to Kenny and was like, yo, want to use a timeout?
04:47Want to think of changing some stuff?
04:50What?
04:51I don't understand it.
04:52And you didn't need the offense, Chris.
04:55You were up 22.
04:55You needed some defense.
04:57Well, yes.
04:59But you also, he's not such a good offensive player at this point of his career where when
05:06you take him off the floor, it's like you can't run an offense.
05:08You can run an offense without him.
05:10There was a time where you couldn't run an offense without James Harden on the floor.
05:14That's not this time.
05:15And it's not my favorite offense anyway when he's out there.
05:20But, man, oh, man, I just, I mean, they were, they're chanting after one game, we want Wemby.
05:28I mean, they were laughing at us before.
05:30They're like, well, this is going to be over in four and five.
05:32And we had it in our hands with seven and a half to go.
05:35And I hope that we can rebound.
05:38Because I didn't think we were going to win game seven in Detroit and we kicked their ass.
05:41And I hope that we find the resolve today to come out tomorrow and figure out a way.
05:49I find it strange that, and I brought this up a couple of times today, that game six against
05:54Detroit was such a fiasco at home when you had a chance to close out.
05:59And this was such a fiasco in the fourth quarter.
06:02And I don't know if I should look big picture at that or if I shouldn't or if I should
06:08just
06:08dwell on getting past Detroit or what, Chris.
06:11But it's weird to me that two out of three playoff games just were miserable.
06:18I don't have any answers, man.
06:20You know, it's a weird sport.
06:26Look, they've played like the oldest team in the playoffs at times.
06:29And I can't imagine how tired they are.
06:32You know, Jared said it after game six that we're tired.
06:36You know, they've been playing every other day for a month.
06:38And that is a lot.
06:39But they've put themselves in this position.
06:42And so, I don't know.
06:46I mean, I think if you were to take a poll of Cleveland sports fans today and ask how
06:50long this series is going, I think a lot of people will say five.
06:53Like, we'll get one at home and that might be it.
06:56And we're going to lose game five in New York and we'll call it a season.
06:58We'll try and figure it out from there.
07:00And, you know, we went from such a high on Sunday.
07:04Like, how often have we played a game like that, particularly without LeBron, where we
07:09just own them, own them, and then to turn around and get through the first quarter and
07:15feel good about where we were in New York and then start to just have building blocks.
07:19And you start going, yeah, the Knicks aren't that good, especially defensively.
07:24I've never remembered a Mike Brown team where they're known better for their offense and
07:28their defense.
07:29But this is it.
07:30So, like, we should be able to hang with them through three quarters.
07:34You're like, my God.
07:35I don't know if we can beat San Antonio or Oklahoma City, but we could definitely beat
07:39this team.
07:39And who knows?
07:40Maybe we still can.
07:41But, man, when you have it in your hands like that, I didn't sleep well.
07:50I did not sleep well.
07:52I know a lot of you people are listening right now and you're all shaking your head because
07:55you feel just as crappy as I do.
07:57And we hope that we can rebound more.
07:59That's all I can say.
08:00I'm with you, brother.
08:01I'm with you.
08:02Let me ask you this.
08:03Your perception of the Knicks going into last night's game and now coming out, I know they
08:08came back.
08:09I actually, I know this is weird because of the way the game ended and I know they
08:15choked on the end, but I actually feel like the matchup is a lot closer to the Knicks
08:20than maybe I thought it was going into last night's game.
08:23Like, the Cavaliers, if they can rebound, that's the thing.
08:26Like, if they get the mental and the psychological damage from this game, we could be in big
08:31trouble.
08:31But if they don't get it, I still feel like the Cavs played better and it was bad the
08:36first half, too.
08:36Like, I'm making excuses here, but I still feel better about the matchup against the
08:41Knicks today than I did going into the game.
08:44I thought, I truthfully thought playing every other day and then playing a Knicks team that,
08:49you know, I had some rest.
08:51I thought the Knicks were going to blow us out of the water last night, but they didn't.
08:55I just, I don't know.
08:56How do you feel about the Knicks now compared to the before the game history?
08:59Yeah, I mean, look, I thought we were going to lose by about a dozen last night and it
09:03ended up being 11, although it was an overtime.
09:08But, you know, the more we got into a rhythm, I was like, God, and Donovan played great.
09:12He just, he did.
09:14I think, I think he did get exhausted at the end and I understand it for God's sakes.
09:18I mean, the guy played 41 minutes and he's just, I don't know, man.
09:26God.
09:28I love it.
09:31I love it because we're one of four teams and this is the beauty of sports is that you
09:37can have such a high on a Sunday night where I'm watching with my oldest son and my other
09:42sons on a summer internship in Milwaukee and we're freaking all smiles and lighting it up.
09:46My wife's excited and we all just feel good about it and that's how you want to feel and
09:51then you have a chance where you get to dream big for three quarters.
09:55For three quarters, we were killing them.
09:57All those freaking morons, they show the same five stupid celebrities every time.
10:04It's a city of 18 billion people and the same five celebrities go to the game.
10:10Does that really make them special?
10:13It doesn't.
10:14The only one I felt good about was Michael J. Fox.
10:17I felt great about seeing him.
10:18Oh, Chalamet didn't do anything for you?
10:20Larry David doing anything?
10:21Was Larry there last night?
10:23I thought he was.
10:23I mean, like enough.
10:25Thank God.
10:25Like the one guy I didn't even see was Spike Lee for the most part.
10:29You know?
10:30And they're going to mummify that guy in the front row at MSG when it's all said and done.
10:35I thought Stephon Marbury was going to run the point last night.
10:40Chris, did you notice though?
10:41Let me tell you something.
10:42It's so gross that they sit there.
10:45I forgot how much Grandmama and John Starks.
10:50Yeah.
10:50And at least in Detroit, they sit guys that have won rings in the front row.
10:56And not guys who are getting dunked on in the most famous NBA commercials.
11:01Really?
11:02Steph Marbury deserves to be sitting in a suit in the front row of Madison Square Garden?
11:07What the hell did you do?
11:09And walking on the floor, Chris, by the way.
11:11I'd have respect if I saw Cleveland's own Charles Oakley there.
11:14Tee him up.
11:15Especially after his...
11:16Well, never mind.
11:17We'll talk about that later.
11:18Charles is in front of the show.
11:19I mean, really, it's incredible how much that franchise has gone in the crapper.
11:25Like, this is what we're celebrating.
11:27Good for you.
11:28Now you're just like the rest of us.
11:30You have admitted you are like the rest of us.
11:33You used to enjoy championships in that city.
11:36That's what you used to celebrate.
11:38Now it's Stephon Marbury.
11:40I'm going to bring up his stats real quick before I get out of here.
11:43Because I'm about to go nuts.
11:45Hey, did you ever notice they don't show that New York crew, that Ben Stiller crew, when they're losing?
11:52Because going into the fourth quarter, I was like, oh, funny.
11:55We haven't seen any pictures of the celebrities who are depressed right now.
11:58We didn't see them once until the fourth quarter.
12:02I'd love to know how many times he led the Knicks to the playoffs.
12:07Let me see here.
12:08I mean, come on, man.
12:10Really?
12:11Can I make you feel better while you're looking up Marbury stats?
12:15Can you make me feel better?
12:17Yeah, can I?
12:18Because I will.
12:19Doubt it.
12:20Guardians have won 10 of 13 games.
12:23Hell yes.
12:23There you go.
12:24Oh.
12:25They look good.
12:26They have looked good.
12:28Let's see here.
12:28In five years, Marbury averaged 18 points with the Knicks, which was, he played for five
12:35teams, which was the third most with any team.
12:40Great.
12:40Good for you.
12:42I'd like to see your playoff stats here, you freaking weirdo.
12:45Remember, though, and I believe it was Marbury.
12:48Remember he came out with the cheap shoes?
12:50The Starberries.
12:51Yeah.
12:51So the kids could afford nice shoes.
12:53Yeah.
12:54Yeah.
12:54Playoff series.
12:55Oh, well, no reason they're celebrating.
12:58Let's see here.
12:59He played one playoff season with the Knicks.
13:03They were eliminated by the Nets in the first round, where they won a whopping zero games.
13:10Sounds like front row seats to me, pal.
13:13Go get them.
13:17Enjoy game two.
13:20We hope.
13:22Thanks, bud.
13:24Take care.
13:25Chris Rose.
13:26Bye, Chris.
13:26You weren't as grumpy as I thought you'd be.
13:28Thanks, man.
13:28Wow.
