00:17oh did you leave cookies here
00:19I did so it's a little early in the morning
00:21I don't expect everybody to be scarfing down
00:23cookies at 6-30
00:24but help yourself
00:26what kind of cookies are they
00:27they are homemade my mom makes
00:30them good
00:31they are oh they're good they're good that's the
00:34kind that's but just
00:36the back story here so I got the nickname
00:38cookies and it's completely unrelated
00:39but fitting because growing up
00:41my mom's chocolate chip cookies were
00:44famous
00:45so these are the famous chocolate chip
00:48cookies I'm a big fan
00:50of chocolate chip cookies Greg any other
00:51descriptors as you've indulged already
00:54no I think good pretty
00:56much okay and by the way y'all better get to them

01:22ice cream sandwiches
01:24and so if I take them home
01:25yes
01:26make myself an ice cream sandwich
01:28oh

01:37we can get you to your cookies
01:38uh-huh
01:39Trajan Langdon spoke yesterday
01:41and we were anticipating
01:43that he wouldn't tip his hand
01:45he stepped up to the podium
01:47in his very soothing librarian voice
01:49and John did anything stand out to you
01:51absolutely not
01:52um
01:54and I
01:54I was
01:55I was mentioning this to you at the commercial break
01:57I was on the way home from a
01:58a local sporting goods store
01:59which I won't say the name
02:00because I'm not a grown-up
02:01uh
02:02and
02:03Jack was driving
02:04so I'm
02:05I'm
02:05I'm there taking notes on my phone
02:07and I'm listening
02:08and
02:09when we pulled into the driveway
02:11he was just wrapping things up
02:13and
02:13I looked at Jack
02:14and I'm like
02:16I
02:17I don't think there's anything
02:18that I'm particularly
02:20upset with
02:21I'm also not particularly
02:24excited
02:25it
02:25he did a
02:27masterful job
02:28of
02:29talking for
02:30what did he talk for
02:3040 minutes
02:3130 something
02:3230 something minutes
02:33of saying nothing
02:35yeah I know
02:35Valeni likes to get on some of the GMs
02:37because they're not effective communicators
02:38I think this is success in their eyes
02:40they don't want to go up there
02:42and have anything be held against them
02:44I
02:44they don't want anything held against them
02:46but they also can't put the playbook out there
02:49and say
02:50oh yeah
02:51well we're gonna go big game hunting
02:52and we're gonna go get
02:53Laurie Markkinen in a trade
02:55and here's what we're gonna offer
02:56I'm giving up Ron Holland
02:57as soon as I leave the podium
02:58right
02:59and so
03:00I mean
03:01what do you expect after a season like they had
03:03now maybe it's
03:05that
03:06you know
03:07hey
03:07one game
03:09game seven of the second series
03:12doesn't define
03:14their entire season
03:16it's the period
03:17at the end of the sentence
03:19is how I always kind of see it
03:20and it's the last thing
03:22that we have to think about
03:23there are a lot of good things
03:25that we identified the warts
03:28and he didn't necessarily walk away
03:30from any of those
03:33yeah look
03:34I'll just do this for people
03:35like
03:35your
03:36GM speaks
03:39we'll play some of it for you
03:41we had five things
03:42on our show sheet to play
03:44oh yeah
03:44and I want to start with
03:45something for you John
03:47because you wanted to know
03:48what
03:49Langdon thought of Jalen Duren's
03:51postseason
03:52and if he had an explanation
03:53or through his eyes
03:55what did he see
04:12well
04:13at least he confirmed
04:14what we've been talking about
04:16that's what I'm saying
04:17I don't think we're crazy
04:18right
04:18and so
04:19it's
04:19when we see
04:21we don't do a deep dive
04:24into the analytics
04:25which they'll do
04:26and like
04:27how do they come back
04:29how does Jalen Duren
04:30when he talks about
04:31putting a plan together
04:32for him to work on things
04:33this offseason
04:33like
04:34what does that look like
04:36and then
04:37what does it look like
04:38next year
04:39yeah
04:39and so
04:41what we see
04:42is the same thing
04:42he just said
04:43so I don't have access
04:45to the analytics
04:45that the team does
04:46but NBA.com
04:48you can geek out
04:48more these days
04:49Jalen Duren was top five
04:50in the NBA
04:51in putback points
04:53and points
04:54as the role man
04:55in the pick and roll
04:56so you're just
04:57diving to the hoop
04:57and throwing it down
04:58the stuff that teams
05:00are going to take away
05:00in the postseason
05:01I mean it played out
05:02we saw it
05:03he's a guy who
05:05they don't seem to hesitate
05:06they're going to pay
05:08that you can take away
05:09in the postseason
05:10that's a major concern
05:12speaking of
05:14you know
05:15Jalen Duren
05:17he spoke about
05:18keeping him
05:18and Asar Thompson
05:19for a very long time
05:20said this
05:21this offseason
05:21is an exciting time
05:22as a GM
05:23Er Ohhh
05:48great
05:49I'm
05:52half past
05:53if you leave
05:58Where do they need to improve?
05:59He was asked directly, and this is what he had to say.
06:32Again, things that we had talked about, it's nice to get some confirmation that he doesn't
06:38come out and say, well, yeah, our half-court offense was fine, or that we had plenty of
06:42shooting, we just missed shots.
06:44Yeah, there's no gaslighting.
06:45It's, hey, we need another creator, and we've got to be able to space the floor.
06:48Stop me if you've heard callers and hosts say that over the last several months.
06:54The big question, he was asked a lot about, all right, like, what are you going to do
06:59now to get to the next level?
07:01I think he was very complimentary of the season they had and very proud, and the tone of that
07:06press conference was, and now what?
07:08The questions were, and now what?
07:10Now what are you going to do?
07:11Does this push them towards, quote, an all-in move?
07:39See what I mean?
07:40Smooth librarian voice, not committing to anything.
07:42I do think the question that pinned him down the most was a question from our very own
07:48Jeff Rieger about, do you think this current roster without a big move is championship caliber?
08:06Are you going to do the next couple of questions?
08:30so the takeaway from that is okay okay yes we all want to get better year over year yeah
08:40i i don't think just like he said there in terms of yeah no team is the same even if
08:46you bring
08:46back all 15 guys they're not bringing back all 15 guys no the team will be different when you
08:52just said it that way it did sound kind of scott heresy right if we bring back all the same
08:56guys
08:56it doesn't mean we're the same team right be very careful the idea that players will get better
09:02forever that there's this untapped potential that you will consistently reach another level every
09:09year with the same group you got to be very careful of that i agree but you take that with
09:16the one that
09:17we already heard where he says yeah we need more ball handlers we need more shooters well that's
09:23why it's a cauldron of nothing right um i think this is a very pivotal offseason and i don't have
09:30any issue no big issue with anything that he said in regards to there is a lot of optionality right
09:36now with durin anasar thompson and what does what does optionality mean well it means you could do
09:45something doesn't mean you will do something but i think he he still without saying a lot
09:51conceded the point hey this is the offseason to do something because once we pay durin and asar which
09:58i apparently just accepted that they're gonna pay durin once we pay those guys we won't have this
10:04flexibility to add what specifically shot creation and spacing well then you gotta do it this offseason
10:11you've already solved the riddle for us this offseason do it now because once you pay everybody
10:17you won't be much harder your job's gonna get 10 times harder once durin's making 40 and asar's
10:23pushing for 35 to 40 you're gonna have a real hard time filling out a roster of shooters around
10:29those guys because as his point was shooting's expensive right spacing and dribbling and uh ball
10:36ball handling is expensive and if those are your three highest paid players and i'm throwing kate into
10:41that yeah do i think this is a team that is built to win a championship i'd have to say
10:46no no which is
10:47when he says i think so i don't think so so you got to make those moves this offseason what
10:52were some
10:53takeaways we'll talk more about the pistons it's 97 one
10:55you
