01:55i've been doing burlesque for three years i have traveled the world as a singer i spent most of my
02:02life studying toilets talking to people about toilet paper everybody's got a different journey but it

02:17looking for his very own happily ever after i've always wanted to get married ever since i was a kid
02:24i've definitely pictured my wedding day in huge detail
02:31the way i envision it is just this beautiful evening full of light
02:36like a big sort of old house with a double staircase and we both come down looking into each other's
02:43eyes

03:07progressed past that point right why not um i think i'm colorblind so i don't really see very
03:14flags i tend to fall hard and fast for people and i always believe the best in them all right

03:38of gay
03:39people aren't looking for that long term they're looking for the short term so it's a struggle
03:43then it just seems as soon as you mention commitment people like lose their minds so what are you
03:47looking for who are you looking for how do you like your blokes well are you asking what my type

04:33well you all right love your jacket trendy on style you're ready for it i think so do you find
04:39it
04:39difficult to meet people what's the hurdle what's the thing that just time um confidence i think so you
04:47don't strike me as somebody who doesn't have confidence on on the contrary uh depends on which
04:52context you're talking about i suppose i've been single now for over a decade i'm working in bars
04:59and nightclubs where there's a constant flow of men but it's not the right environment to meet someone
05:05in a serious capacity i suppose hookup culture is is rife intimacy is what everybody wants sex is what
05:14everyone gets you know your date doesn't rise yes at the bar uh if you just go discreetly like that
05:21you know i know i've seen you've seen it yeah all right yeah this is about to be interesting

06:02you much more at ease now i'm sitting here with a friend you know each other oh yeah okay cool
06:08where
06:08from and how am i uh manchester we run in the kind of the same social circles so yeah
06:15you guys are very lucky because you know the hardest thing to establish in a relationship is trust
06:20but you've already got that yeah yeah all you have to inject is a little va-va-vous
06:27yeah a little romantic je ne sais quoi shall we go to your table absolutely your table

07:49what do you think is about being in a relationship can i say sex
07:55and tell me what do you do i'm a paramedic you're a paramedic i am yeah oh wonderful but i've
07:59only
08:00just become a paramedic or a technician before and worked my way up through the ranks so i graduated
08:05last year from university congratulations they're 52 you're never too old to go back and learn no you're
08:10not brilliant there you go tell me about you and dating then have you dated much so no not much
08:15in
08:15the last three years wow yeah so this is a big day for you this is a very big day
08:20for me tell me what
08:21are you looking for what do you like in a man a good sense of humor i like people that
08:24are kind kind
08:26yeah i'm polite how do you like them to look i've no preference for looks what if he's short well
08:32well
08:33we're all the same high line down now ready to plunge into his date with tracy toilet roll salesman
08:42stewart is wiped out from his search for love now scrunching it reduces your surface area doesn't it
08:49whereas if you fold it you've got bigger surface area aren't you
08:54the average person in an office environment will use a toilet three times a day
08:58and on average they will use eight sheets of toilet paper per visit but we don't want to talk about
09:03toilet paper on a first day there's way more exciting things to talk about isn't there than that
09:07nice to meet you and you love your shirt you like pink no it's cherry blossom fred cherry blossom no
09:13i
09:13mean pink as a oh yeah i like pink as a color brilliant how long have you been single 13
09:19years
09:20three months and 27 days i think might be 28 days i'm a different point in my life now and
09:27maybe it's
09:27time to reevaluate my single bubble i need someone to come along and try and burst it should i take
09:33your jacket yes please no yeah take that it'd be nice to meet someone who's got a lust for life
09:37someone
09:37confident someone who's comfortable in their own world have a nice day cheers thank you
09:43that's an awesome shirt thank you tracy nice to meet you we're nearly matching stuart i know
09:50you must have got the memo i did brand i need to put my glasses on i can't see
09:55you might not see him yeah i can see them what are you drinking i'm on a spicy margarita
10:00i thought nice this is stuart he got the memo about i did i was gonna say you didn't this
10:06joyous
10:07yeah look at that shirt that's awesome what do you do for a living then so i uh sell cleaning
10:13products
10:14for a living all right exciting stuff so i spend most of my life in the toilet talking to people
10:18about
10:19how to use toilet roll which is good fun it's good it's recession proof yeah yeah everybody needs it
10:24it's never gonna go out of fashion is it not at all hi friends yes come with me
10:34i haven't actually saw any of your shows yet like obviously i i know that your um drag name is
10:39victoria but yeah but it's pretty much how everyone knows me to be fair what is your actual name then
10:43because obviously i well unless it is victoria no no no no i'm nathan a lot of people only know
10:49me as
10:50vick or victoria and she's amazing and i could walk down the street as vick and everyone knows her
10:56everyone wants to be her friend she's confident but underneath it all nathan really wasn't i i would
11:05be ghosted so many times when they find out i've done drag although i do drag that's the gay community
11:10yeah as soon as you were saying that i was like wow like never talked deeply like this before no
11:15right i've been ghosted so many times i think dating's difficult sometimes because i can't
11:21always fully be myself um i have to feel like i'm showing a different version of me even though
11:27they're both me i mean for me like when i meet someone that's the hardest thing it's like well
11:38when when do i tell someone absolutely has your hair ever caused you problems with dates
11:46i was getting intimate with a guy and you know they put their hand on my head and pulls and
11:52the
11:52thing came off and they screamed i screamed and i was like oh my god this is like one of
11:57my worst fears
11:58um and yeah and then i did not see them again i sort of like ran out of there and
12:03it's been like that
12:04since you know i was a kid yeah so it started coming out in clumps when i was like 12
12:08or 13 at
12:09school i went to like a catholic school that is relevant because at that point losing my hair being
12:14gay and stuff as well everything was suppressed i'd sit in my bed talk to the ceiling uh obviously i'd
12:20wish for my hair um and but i'd also just wish not to be gay i thought my word was
12:26going to crumble
12:26but instead i did a tiktok video posted it and actually i got so many messages and then i was
12:32like
12:32okay cool so maybe invulnerable is actually a good thing it's insane how far i've actually came
12:39i can't control people's reactions but i can control how i respond to their behaviors i'm worthy of love
12:45i deserve that if you don't think that fine go and work on yourself it's about war paint and armor
12:51yeah
12:51the hair system and drag yeah are the armor to who we are underneath but who we are underneath doesn't
12:58change we're still that same person with them same morals and those those values i don't think
13:03we would have ever spoke like this before it's just really nice to you know hear things be so open
13:08about it you know it's a part of me i keep quite quiet to be honest with you i hold
13:12myself in a
13:12certain way i'm very intimidated and i hold myself uptight and i'm almost very unapproachable almost
13:26certain types of toilet paper they're really big rolls you can pull it out really slowly and they
13:31put it in the toilet so it gets wet and then they flush the toilet and it'll spin the whole
13:35toilet paper
13:36off down the toilet you know cc some of our older daters today it's it feels as if they are
13:43really out of
13:44practice they haven't been dating for so long and they're going back on the horse and if they just
13:50have no idea how to do it what to do i remember the toilet rolls at school that were like
13:54the
13:54tracing paper yeah i mean what what were we thinking of cost
14:03hi gorge hello how are you hello how are we doing fabulous did i hear that you two might
14:08know each other yeah so we are in the same friendship group believe it or not but like
14:13i wouldn't say like close friends you know so we've been we've been in the rooms together at
14:17parties we've we've pre-drunk together we've been to clubs together we've you know we've done it yeah
14:21so we know each other socially but romantically you've never explored anything even before no no but i
14:31think obviously i don't know how you feel about this but being on this date you know i'm very much
14:34open to getting to know you like absolutely
14:45mate i'm not even joking mate i'm on a date with victoria like what
14:55where are you off to i'm going to the cellar go to the basement oh here we go take the
15:01lift
15:02this was not on the bingo card of all the things that i thought might happen like this was not
15:09anyway so i'm just giving you a quick update and yeah i'll let you know how it goes this is
15:15so wild
15:17wow thank you very much i'm gonna grab you another four lovely job thank you more than welcome
15:24so have you always lived in waitfield yes and my family's still living in waitfield so my mom still
15:28lives my mom and dad are still at the same house that my kids live close by so it's just
15:33standing
15:35my daughter was a mental health nurse wow so my eldest is a paramedic and my youngest
15:41works for a layer of disabilities we're all sort of all in caring professions so how did that come
15:47just just happened by accident or was everyone kind of just sort of migrated to that well it's a
15:52funny story i'm going to tell you about
15:56my oldest son we adopted at birth because i had him when i'm 15.
16:01i kept the pregnancy secret for six months and then told my parents about it knew that i couldn't
16:06look after him at 15 my mom and dad didn't have much money it was difficult more difficult than i
16:12thought it would be every year you think about every year you think oh it's his birthday or every year
16:17you think oh i wonder what he's doing or what it looks like or i hope he's all right all
16:21i ever wanted
16:22what what for him to be happy and when the law changed and you were able to find your adopted
16:28children through an intermediary i paid to find them and we met and everything just clicked into
16:33place and i got a job with the ambulance service and he was already a paramedic with the ambulance
16:37service oh wow i know you won't believe this but it turned out i'd got a job at the same
16:44ambulance
16:44station that he was working at and he was a paramedic and it's lovely to see that he's had such
16:50a
16:50marvellous upbringing something that i did it's not that you don't love them it's the fact that
16:54you know you can't give them everything they need at that age so he's had a lovely life and i'm
16:58super
16:59proud of him we all just melded into one big family it was obviously like you say it was meant
17:05to be
17:05yeah yeah so there was a song there somewhere there is there is
17:15again i think that was a tie there's no way there is no way that was a tie
17:19but good game i'm trying to be a better loser okay that's okay
17:26hi i'm ready i made you look cause i'm about to make a scene
17:3327 year old verity is a barber who's looking for a man whose love won't fade
17:40i get really mixed reactions from lads when i tell them i'm a barber
17:44but the weirdest child plans just gotta be like when are you cutting my hair then
17:51and i'm like never now you've just ruined it
17:56hi hey how are you very team i'm good thank you tell me what you do for a living so
18:00i am a barber
18:01are you yeah do you meet any anybody in the salon never my dean and life at the moment is
18:08literally
18:08non-existent i don't really approach men it's not even about like rejection i just think i'm just
18:14scared i just can't do it how are you feeling yeah i'm nervous so when was the last time you
18:21were dating
18:22it's been like months really yeah so it's gonna be fun and how do you like your guys to look
18:27i like a like tall dog and handsome yeah and i like a trendy guy as well just like a
18:32happy
18:33easy going person yeah happy toppy i want someone that's like sweet and gentle with me and
18:40confident not cocky i love like dark hair like a nice neat beard i like them tall
18:49verity's date is six foot five mancunian coach driver liam have you ever been to london nope
18:56this is the fernest you've ever been yeah for yourself yeah i'm from manchester like everything's

19:16oh cheers yeah my ideal
19:18woman would be confident funny charming same as me just someone with my energy just happy
19:27enjoy good luck hi are you all right hi are you all right sorry i didn't realize it was you
19:33coming
19:33over oh you've got a strong accent i know some of you like leeds manchester oh really sorry i've gone
19:40too far hey sir how are you can i get a single pink gin lemonade please pink gin and lemonade
19:45yeah sure thing
19:45i'm a bit of a feminine drinker no that's fine do you like wine not really not don't taste nice
19:53nothing you can't tell me that taste nice yeah i think it does all our drink is like white wine
19:58yeah
19:58obviously not like every minute of every day but like yeah what's your name sorry liam liam and
20:06verity very soon yeah yeah thank you what do you think of bath it's nice this is the furthest south
20:14i've ever been really yeah you've been to like london the war no no really london i mean i'd like
20:19to go
20:21maybe you could tell me
20:23ha ha maybe
20:23i remember the first time i met you oh no you're gonna tell me gone i would say like a
20:31coconut
20:32because like obviously
20:34really hard shell like i've never been competitor a coconut but i see i see your point yeah
20:41ridiculously hard exterior and i do i'm aware that i hold myself in a certain kind of way
20:46i don't want to be vulnerable why do you feel like you can't be vulnerable anymore
20:53because yeah because um i don't want to go through the things i've been through again men are horrid
21:00the last serious relationship i had um was a very long time ago and i think i was very much
21:09so desperate to be loved by somebody that i was sucked into this relationship with this boy
21:17who was just not a very nice person
21:21he really broke me because of how awful he really was
21:29i don't think i've been ready to trust anyone again since him
21:34why did you come on this then nearly 40 years old and i genuinely can say that i don't think
21:41i've
21:41ever been in love how hard is that i think it it might seem hard but also you said yourself
21:47you
21:48know that you find it really hard to be vulnerable then maybe you just haven't been
21:52run above the right person yeah maybe that then i am a tourist so
21:57so our signs do match actually do they yeah i'll have to do a tower card reading for you at
22:02some
22:02point then did you do one before today so i did run yesterday so what did they say so the
22:08two of cups
22:09means the beginning of a relationship nine of cups is the fulfillment of an emotional wish that i do
22:16feel describes this situation well i hate to say it but i think your cards read this day perfectly because
22:23that sounds pretty accurate
22:30so what sort of food do you like um i like mexican indian italian
22:39johnny yeah pretty much everything then yeah yeah that'd be better if asking them what don't you like
22:44custard you don't like custard no why not i've got a proper thobia about custard have you it's a little
22:52bit weird i know she's scared of custard yeah so i've got i once bit into a donut without custard
22:58in it and
22:58first 60 years oh wow yes i do love a custard donut
23:06and what made you decide to pick this then oh there's a number of reasons so three years ago i
23:12got
23:12diagnosed with a brain tumor wow because of where it was it had paralyzed me down the left hand side
23:17so i went in in january 23 for my first stop and they thought it had all been quite successful
23:25but then in may of 23 they started talking to me about chemo and radiotherapy which scares the
23:30bejesus out of me and when they start talking about radio and chemo they start talking about two
23:35years of life so i was like oh shit so that's prompted my move back to leeds and my parents
23:42are
23:43close to there and so is my brother so yeah so when i got to leeds they were brilliant because
23:47they
23:47went no what we'll do is we don't like radio we don't like chemo we'll crack you up again and
23:50we'll
23:51take it out so it's all right great so they did that in jan 24 yeah and now they're talking
23:55about
23:5610 years of life well so 10 years treatment free now i suppose i'm resetting my life yeah i thought
24:02why not put myself out there and live a little bit before it's going to you know it's like you
24:07think about your retirement and getting pension right and stuff like i don't care about any of
24:10that anymore so it's all about no let's just go out and live life and have some really good
24:14experiences definitely a life-changing moment sorry i didn't ask how old are you oh i'm not
24:22allowed to answer that yeah i'm nearly 50. i have to keep reminding myself that what are you going to
24:27do
24:27for your 50th i don't know yeah i haven't decided
24:3350. it's a big thing you need to know something spectacular yeah it's it you made it to 50.
24:39i can't believe you six five i'm five foot four yeah yeah you're over a foot taller than me it's
24:48like a
24:48whole subway sandwich you actually are that is crazy
24:59as a queer person manchester has everything i i've wanted um well it's interesting you say that as
25:08well because i feel like me and you are a little bit on the opposite end of the spectrum not
25:12sexuality
25:12wise but i think for me um i've always struggled to have like gay friends um just because i feel
25:19like
25:20the community can be quite difficult so and also like quite judgmental and also then you've got the
25:26side of like trying to make a relationship work in the in manchester's gay scene yeah there's a lot
25:30of promiscuity on the scene hookup culture yeah is is rife um and it's great for for
25:40the there and then's um you know we won't knock it i've never had a hookup ever have you not
25:46no um okay
25:51oh can i open now yeah hi hi yes please could we get the check please absolutely we'll bring it
26:00over to you guys thank you do you want to see each other again romantically
26:07to be the big brave boy and say it go on rather than putting you on the spot for me
26:11no this is such
26:13a wonderful friendship and i felt like i've got to know you so much deeper this evening
26:18in a way that is is so lovely but not romantically
26:26yeah that's what was really beautiful about tonight actually because it's the first time
26:30we've really engaged on a deep level outside of you know just uh the only thing that we had in
26:35common um was about being gay because the the group chat is called gays are us gays are us yeah
26:40yes it's 100 on you mine's not working
26:45so is there definitely no way you two would consider each other
26:49i mean i'm not ruling it out i was not expecting you to say that
26:55you can ever say never if i'm six pounds deep i might hook up with you when i'm really really
27:00drunk
27:00right so when you can't see almost you right okay honestly of all the people i could have walked in
27:08to see i'm so glad it was you what are the chances though i know but what a great story
27:13to take back
27:13to our friends in manchester i think we actually need to go for a drink we do there is a
27:17gay bar
27:17here there's one i've already googled it and found it love it so should we go and get six pints
27:32i think love is being able to be silent together and that that's okay that you are both enough
27:41for each other so that therefore you don't have to fill the space with talking i can't imagine you
27:46being quiet what can i get you can we have the korean fried chicken yep the gambas pill pill
27:56yep and the potatoes bravas please get some seasoned fries like yeah we'll get some chips as well then
28:01get some seasoned fries yeah yeah no problem thank you thank you it would be like your ideal first day
28:07probably something like this we feel like having some drinks like food i like doing fun stuff as well
28:12you know like going bowling and like crazy golf and stuff like that i do like this i like i
28:17like
28:17i'm gonna sit down and drink and food and yeah trying new foods as well i quite like that yeah
28:21let's
28:22try these prongs i've had these before what are you gonna do if you don't like it i like it
28:25what if you don't no i'll put on a brave face
28:31oh it's so nice thank you cheers thank you so like i have a question for your eyes where do
28:38you think i'm from
28:42newcastle so i sound like i am but i'm not no it's got to be no i'm bad with accents
28:50no you're right
28:51like with the accent like it's a north east accent but i'm like i'm from like the midlands
28:58so this is a video of my old accent i sound like so different so this is the color of
29:03it after
29:04i've stripped it i'm gonna put the dark blonde on it and see what happens i can't believe that that's
29:14how you sound so it's really strange feeling i have a brain disorder which caused my accent to change
29:21oh really yes yeah so i have something called foreign accent syndrome right october 2023 i had like
29:29one of the worst migraines of my life and when i woke up i couldn't speak and as it was
29:36like starting
29:37to come back i could just tell that i didn't sound like me got diagnosed with functional neurological
29:44disorder which is where like my brain and nervous system isn't connected properly which causes like
29:50malfunctions sometimes i have to wear hearing aids because if my brain's malfunctioning on that certain
29:55day i can't hear properly it's really like affected my life massively and then yeah end up with like
30:01a different accent so only person yeah literally yeah it was a bit crazy so and like i just don't
30:09think people knew how to deal with it not a lot of people do though do they i don't think
30:12i would either
30:15i don't want to get hurt i don't want to fall in love with somebody and then they can't deal
30:21with
30:22how poorly i am and i think that's why i've just kind of like pushed people who were here before
30:27i feel like no one's gonna want me yeah um i'm under like different neurologists and consultants and
30:34that and like yeah it's a bit crazy yeah hey that's what makes you you yeah that's true that is
30:41very true

36:56yeah but see i've never been married i've been engaged five times over the years that's a lot
37:02of money on engagement it is when you don't get them back well i look at past relationships and think
37:09yeah maybe if i'd done this and done that not put myself and my career first and my work
37:16i probably would have been still in some of them relationships now
37:22i've got a lot of regrets about my past because i've missed a lot of my children growing up
37:30my daughter at the moment is living with me wednesday to monday because she's she started

38:42korean chicken thank you how is your day in history i feel like my health's had a lot of like
38:52impact on it yeah because like the last couple of people i've been with it's only been like a few
38:56months how was yours i've only ever had like one serious relationship in my life and that ended
39:01about a year ago as a kid you kind of think oh by the time i'm this age i'll have
39:07a family
39:08i'll have a house love a dog a car so i think turning 30 i would like to share the
39:15next half of my life with
39:16someone my friends are pretty much settled down with missus and getting houses and stuff like that
39:21to be fair i'm the same like most of my friends are married they've got kids and i'm just like
39:27winning your life yeah having that best friend but partner relationship can't be it
39:38i mean someone's a lean on someone you can do everything with you know do anything to make the
39:43person happy what's like your normal time so you do look like your type
39:51so like yeah i like the tall darling handsome type i like your beard you've got i like your hair
39:57it's different it's quirky oh thank you no it's nice obviously because like being a barber i know is it

40:07no four years no five's the minimum yes five is the minimum hello fred so um my little finger
40:20tells me that you are a singer yes so what are you saying then let's go let's put on the
40:24show
40:26what i've got to sing well you're a singer just a couple of verses all right let's go
40:44oh
40:45oh
40:48oh
40:49oh
40:49oh
40:49oh
40:49Oh
40:53Stan I from the
40:57Stan from
41:07Wow that was amazing fabulous. Thank you
41:13That was brave honestly and physically she is
41:18It's all respected to be for rain
41:21Burlesque, I just love dancing
41:23Most people are like wow. I don't know if you've got the books
41:27I'm more worried about getting the dance right
41:29Yeah, the end there you beat yourself up when you watch it back and you're thinking I went wrong on
41:34that bit
41:35And it was like well nobody knew because only you know what you're doing. It's a solo exactly
41:40I'm really
41:42Not a confident person
41:46When I was younger I was bullied at school and I'm and I was bullied in my marriage a lot
41:51And I feel like I can't change who I am
41:58When you've been married as long as I was it takes a while for the mist to clear and for
42:03you to realize who you are and
42:04What you actually want from life?
42:07The burlesque it's more of a cabaret, so we have like a singer and we have all different things. I
42:13can't sing
42:15Everybody can sing Debbie. I can sing. It's not a good song
42:18Everybody can sing. But what I do is I get the karaoke. I wiggle a lot so it distracts them
42:23from the sound of my voice
42:24Yeah, but that's what karaoke is about
42:28Now I'm happy in my life and I don't want to stop what I'm doing. I want something to bring
42:32something to my life
42:34I would love to be swept off my feet. I'd like somebody that's really good fun
42:43Are you cold now? I just think it's nice
42:48It's quite
42:50romantic
42:51Yeah
42:53How's your gin? Lovely. So you don't judge me if you're drinking pink gin or any gin
43:00Yeah, it was lovely to be on a date with someone I was comfortable with and it flowed so easily
43:06that like
43:08It would have been a nightmare if I was with someone that like I was chatting me it off and
43:11I just got nothing back
43:13Would have been really difficult
43:15Big spoon or small spoon?
43:17Small?
43:17I like big small spoon as well
43:19How can you be small spoon the way you feel big?
43:21I don't know. I think there's something nice about being tradeled in bed. I don't know what it is. Yeah
43:24It's nice
43:25You never know
43:28Would you like to see each other again?
43:32Do you want me first, aren't I?
43:33Do you want me first, aren't I?
43:35Do you want me first?
43:36I don't mind
43:37I've got vibes
43:38Yeah, I'd like to see you again, yeah
43:43So...
43:44Oh, I feel terrible
43:45That's what I'm saying
43:46I think you're really nice
43:48It's alright
43:48I think you are obviously attractive and
43:53Maybe it was like the environment but I just felt like I was more with like my friend in a
43:58way
43:58Can you see it?
43:58Yeah, of course, yeah
43:58I can see it
44:00You're not cold in just a t-shirt?
44:03Ah, brave face, mate
44:04Brave face
44:05I'm absolutely freezing
44:07I feel like the only reason I could put it down to you because it's nothing to do with you
44:12Is that I'm just not... I'm just not ready
44:14Well, it's fine you gave it a shot
44:15It was all I'm honest
44:16He's really nice and I feel bad
44:18No
44:19I'm just sorry it didn't work out but it was lovely to meet, yeah?
44:23Sorry, get on, sis
44:23Yeah, you too
44:24See you later
44:25Bye
44:30My mum and dad were so much in love for years from an early age
44:34My friends would go, oh, I saw your mum and dad in Barnsley
44:37They were holding hands and they used to always share a toasted fruit tea cake in the market
44:41I mean you see a lot of that round hole where they're walking hand in hand
44:44It's lovely but they're handcuffed
44:46That's what it was like, innit?
44:49We had a lot in common, like, unbelievable amount in common
44:53He's a really nice guy
44:55And I'll get the bill
44:56No, you won't
44:57No, you so well
44:57No, we're both equals
44:59No, no, I'll get the bill
45:04Will you guys see each other again?
45:08I think, yeah, definitely
45:10Yeah, I think so, yeah
45:11I think so, yeah
45:11Yeah, I think so, yeah
45:12I think so, yeah
