00:01A disturbing discovery has been made deep in a Sabah Forest Reserve.
00:05An elephant found dead, its head hacked off in what is believed to be a case of poaching
00:10for tusks.
00:11The carcass was found at the Pinanga Forest Reserve in interior Tongod, with the incident
00:16reported to the Sabah Wildlife Department on Sunday.
00:19Department Director Mohammad Sofyan Abu Bakar said initial observations revealed the elephant's
00:24head had been cut in an L-shape, a tell-tale sign the animal was targeted for its tusks.
00:29While no gunshot wounds were visible on the exposed parts of the body, a post-mortem
00:34will be conducted to confirm the cause of death.
00:37Sofyan said rangers were unable to reach the site immediately due to heavy rain and muddy
00:42terrain.
00:43Access routes in and out of the area have since been closed off as authorities search for the
00:48rest of the elephant's remains, as well as possible suspects and witnesses.
00:53Investigations are ongoing.
00:59The
01:00people are not allowed to reach the site immediately.
