00:00The Cavs hand J.B. Bickerstaff and the Pistons the most disappointing loss in the history of the NBA postseason.
00:08And everyone seems to know that except for J.B. Bickerstaff.
00:17I'm not ever will I be disappointed in these guys.
00:20These guys every single day give us what they got.
00:24So it is not a disappointment.
00:26It's a loss and it's a tough loss.
00:29But, you know, that adjective will never be used as this group.
00:33Not a disappointment.
00:34You can make the case this was the single worst loss by any team in the history of the NBA
00:39postseason.
00:40For the Detroit Pistons to lay an egg, to be down by 17 at halftime, to get run out of
00:46their own arena when they were the ones in, that is the ultimate disappointment.
00:51That is a disgrace.
00:52That is absolutely pathetic.
00:55That is amateur hour personified.
00:58That was the third worst home game seven loss in terms of the margin for the final score in the
01:07history of the NBA.
01:08And here's why I would argue it was the worst.
01:11It was a one seat.
01:12The Detroit Pistons were the one seat.
01:15Let's not bury the lead.
01:16They were expected, bare bones minimum, to be in the conference finals.
01:22And if they made the conference finals, and I say this as a Knicks fan, and we literally have said
01:27this all year, even in picking the Knicks to win the East.
01:30The one team I didn't want to play, Detroit, because of their toughness and how they played against the Knicks
01:37all regular season long.
01:39And revenge and retribution, if you're a Detroit fan, for what transpired last year, where we all know that should
01:47not have been a foul, Tim Hardaway Jr., and the Knicks clearly got a break and then took advantage of
01:53it.
01:53The fact that they lost was bad.
01:56The fact that they got run out of their own building with an opportunity to play in the Final Four
02:01in the NBA with a chance to go to the NBA Finals, that is a disgrace.
02:05The fact that J.B. Bickerstaff, who I like a lot, and I now have to recalculate everything.
02:10I'm a big J.B. Bickerstaff fan.
02:12I thought he did a really nice job in Cleveland.
02:14I thought he was doing a phenomenal job in Detroit.
02:17The fact that he doesn't view that as a bitter disappointment, I don't know what else to say.
02:22If you're a fan of the Mets, when they asked Tom Glavin at the end of the season if he
02:28was devastated or not, and he said no, that's ultimately what that soundbite sounded like, which to me was the
02:35most tone-deaf post-game news conference you could ever have.
02:39When Tom Glavin, after the Mets choked, they asked him if he was devastated.
02:43He said no, not devastated.
02:45And J.B. Bickerstaff is not disappointed in these guys, you have to be disappointed.
02:50And I'll give you another press conference on the flip side of this as a quick example.
02:55Go back to what Quinn Snyder said a couple of weeks ago.
02:59The Hawks had a really good season.
03:01They were a lot of fun.
03:02They outkicked expectations.
03:05But that game six and how they bowed out of the tournament was an embarrassment.
03:09And Quinn Snyder said as much, and he wasn't afraid to talk about that.
03:15I don't know why J.B. Bickerstaff is running away from what his fans deserve and ultimately what should have
03:22transpired.
03:23I mean, the whole ebb and flow, game five, six, and seven for this series was weird.
03:28Not the way I expected.
03:29Obviously, I thought Detroit would be able to handle business at home.
03:33I thought Cleveland would handle game six and it just didn't materialize.
03:37Now, in sports, you could see different things.
03:39Weird things happen, right?
03:40The bounce of a ball here, bounce of a ball there.
03:43You credit and tip the cap to the other team.
03:45The fact that this team didn't even post is a disgrace.
03:49A golden opportunity to play for a championship and play in the conference finals and have the ability to go
03:57out and all the pressure would have been on the Knicks.
03:59And you beat the Knicks, beat them up in the regular season.
04:02That is a terrible job.
04:04And to have such a piss-poor performance at home against Cleveland, a team that historically the last few years
04:12is at its worst when it matters the most in the playoffs, that is unacceptable.
04:17Cade Cunningham, who I love, awful.
04:200 of 7 from 3, 5 of 16 from the field, three turnovers.
04:24I mean, it was just atrocious.
04:27Harris was awful.
04:28Dern was awful.
04:29Thompson couldn't put the ball in the ocean.
04:31And listen, can you imagine being a Detroit sports fan?
04:36Think about the last few years, right?
04:38Go back a couple of NFL seasons ago where the Lions had the 49ers beats, up double digits, and Dan
04:45Campbell, who stinks at math, had no idea what he was doing, when to go for it, when not to
04:50go for it.
04:51The whole thing was a disaster.
04:52Fourth downs, go for two, the entire thing.
04:55San Francisco ends up coming back and goes to the Super Bowl.
04:58Then last year, it was kind of lost in the shuffle a little bit because the Mets had a bigger
05:02collapse.
05:02The Tigers' collapse last year was one of the worst things you'll ever see.
05:06And then, obviously, all the school boom negativity, and now this.
05:10I feel bad for the Detroit sports fan.
05:12And look, obviously, even if you won, there's still a bigger picture conversation about adding a second scorer.
05:18There's no question about that.
05:20Yes, you have to get Kevin Durant.
05:22This has to be the summer of Durant.
05:23Yes, you have to be in it for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
05:26Yes, you have to make an offer to Austin Reeves.
05:29You have to go big so you don't go home.
05:31But maybe the problem is the head coach.
05:34And that, after the game, was a loser's lament.
05:37Tears of a clown.
05:38I could not believe that.
05:40I have so much respect for Bickerstaff.
05:42His dad was a longtime coach.
05:44He's been around the block.
05:45He knows the deal.
05:46How could you say you weren't disappointed?
05:49I've never heard anything quite like that since Tom Glavin said he wasn't devastated when the Mets ultimately did not
05:57make the playoffs when they spit the bit down the stretch of the season.
06:01That last night, as a performance, as a game, and then taking it to the post-game news conference, man,
06:09that was a disgrace.
06:10That wasn't even a sporting event last night.
06:12That was a waste of time because the Pistons didn't want to fight, didn't want to compete.
06:17And for the head coach to sit there and say not a disappointment, let me tell you what happened.
06:22That eradicates everything good that happened during the season.
06:25There is no way you can call this season a success for the Detroit Pistons.
06:30And anyone who says it is, is a water carrier for that organization.
06:34That season, this season, as the clear best team in a weird Eastern Conference all regular season, you don't make
06:41the conference finals, you were lucky to beat Orlando.
06:44Game six wasn't a comeback.
06:47Game six was a collapse by the Orlando Magic.
06:50So, this was a waste, a sinful postseason, top to bottom by the Detroit Pistons, a complete and utter disaster.
06:58And everyone seems to know that, except the head coach.
