Disrespect? Jaylen Brown finished just sixth in MVP voting?
Should JB have finished inside top 5? SGA is now a back-to-back. Debate rages on!
Transcript
00:00If Jalen Brown, who feels at times disrespected, has a case for disrespect when it comes to finishing sixth in
00:13MVP voting.
00:15Ah, hell yeah.
00:18Yes, he does.
00:19Because I ask this simple question, I'll ask it to the room, I'll ask it to the audience, I'll ask
00:24it to everybody.
00:24This season alone, we're talking about the MVP and the way it is.
00:30Take SGA, he won.
00:32He finished behind the Joker, Weminyama, Luka Doncic, Cade Cunningham.
00:38Take every one of those guys off their teams for this season.
00:43Their teams probably still make the postseason and have winning records.
00:48Take Jalen Brown off the Celtics this season.
00:51The Celtics stank.
00:53They're probably a lottery team.
00:55So that's the way that I would look at it.
00:58And so that tells me that that player is super important to the, and the Celtics finished second in the
01:05Eastern Conference.
01:07Yeah, I agree that he's really important to the Celtics.
01:10I just think if you stack these guys up next to each other, I think the highest he probably could
01:15have finished would be like fourth or fifth.
01:18And so sixth is a little bit lower than I would have expected, but top three would have been like
01:24such a tough crowd to crack into with the guys.
01:29Jokic, who I think should just win it every year.
01:31Because he's the best player.
01:34Because he's a walking triple-double every night.
01:37Like, that's crazy.
01:38So wasn't Russell Westbrook at a point in time in his MVP.
01:42And he won MVP.
01:43Right, but you shouldn't just continue to get it because you're the best player.
01:47No, no, no.
01:48Because your stats are ridiculous.
01:49You shouldn't get MVP because your stats are ridiculous?
01:53So if you're the best player on a good team, and didn't they get bounced in the second round?
02:00Nuggets?
02:01Yeah.
02:01First.
02:02First round, excuse me.
02:03So you got one championship.
02:04You're the best player in the NBA on a good basketball team.
02:08Mm-hmm.
02:08Where you have Jamal Murray.
02:09Murray was, eh, this year.
02:11Jamal Murray's still an all-star.
02:13Aaron Gordon.
02:13You're on a very good basketball.
02:15Aaron Gordon was hurt a lot.
02:16Okay, but you're on a good basketball team.
02:18I mean, shouldn't you be in the finals or have won more championships?
02:23Well, then wouldn't you say that for Jalen as well?
02:25If you think that he should be at the same level as Jokic, then he also got bounced in the
02:29first round.
02:29And we are basically crucifying and ripping him for getting bounced.
02:33I'm not crucifying him.
02:34You're asking me.
02:35You might not.
02:36Bryce asking me, should he have finished in, I think he should have finished in the top five.
02:39Does Jokic.
02:40I think he should have finished above Cade.
02:42Does Jokic get as much criticism for his team getting bounced and him only having one championship?
02:49Part of that does come with the territory of, one, Jokic plays for Denver, which nobody really cares about as
02:55a franchise.
02:56And, two, Jokic's biggest interest is not basketball.
02:58It's his horses.
02:59And he's like.
03:00So, now it sounds like we're making an excuse for the Joker.
03:02And he has a soft J.
03:03No.
03:04And.
03:05Jalen's is full.
03:06Victor Wembenyama.
03:08Hard J.
03:08We have both hard J's.
03:10And Stephen A hates black people.
03:12Well, not all black people.
03:13Some black athletes he does.
03:14What a weird day.
03:15It's not weird.
03:16It's true, brother.
03:17All you got to do is just Google.
03:18All you got to do is just take a little dive into black Twitter and see how they feel about
03:22Stephen A.
03:22They don't let me in.
03:23No, they'll let you in.
03:24Oh, okay.
03:25They're very welcoming.
03:26Black Twitter does not like Stephen A.
03:28Oh, they, yes.
03:29They're.
03:29Or B or C.
03:30I would say 60 to 65 percent of just me throwing my number out there.
03:36He's not popular.
03:37Of the black community are probably not fans of Stephen A.
03:40White Twitter is pumped for game seven of the conference semis tonight.
03:43Yeah, we just call that X.
03:46And I would say Victor Wembenyama.
03:50Talented.
03:51So if you wanted to put him behind Wembenyama.
03:55That's what I'm saying.
03:56Like fourth or fifth.
03:57Makes sense to me.
03:58Fourth or fifth.
03:58He shouldn't be behind the Joker.
04:00I mean behind Luka Doncic.
04:02Luka is the league scorer.
04:03Right.
04:04It's almost like the rest of the league doesn't like Jalen Brown.
04:07Yeah.
04:08It's not voted on by the league.
04:09It's voted on by writers.
04:11Who do the writers talk to?
04:12But they don't believe him to be the best two-way player in the world as he believes.
04:19No, they just vote.
04:20He's trying to manifest that, Greg.
04:22Yeah.
04:22That's what you got to do.
04:24You got to speak it into existence.
04:26I mean it could be he's working on his handle.
04:28But he is the best.
04:29I mean who's a better two-way player than him?
04:32Not Luka.
04:33Brawny.
04:34I mean Wembe's stats are pretty crazy.
04:37Wembe's pretty good.
04:37He might.
04:38But remember he even said Wembe's an alien.
04:40Yeah.
04:40And Wembe's young.
04:41So he's not near his peak yet.
04:45SGA's not a better two-way player than Jalen Brown.
04:48I agree with that.
04:48Cade Cunningham's not a better two-way player than Jalen Brown.
04:51Luka Doncic.
04:52I just brought him up.
04:53He's not a better two-way player.
04:54So they're voting strictly on numbers.
04:56Right.
04:57That's what they're giving it to.
04:57They're giving it to a guy with arguably the best numbers or one of the guys that has
05:02to have finished top three when it comes to scoring.
05:04But you cite numbers with Tatum all the time in the NBA Finals run saying that he got disrespected.
05:08Yeah.
05:08And you're just using numbers for that.
05:10No, no, no.
05:10But he also carried his team to an NBA Finals and won a championship.
05:14Right.
05:14But you're using stats.
05:15These guys are just scoring though.
05:16We're just talking scoring numbers.
05:19If Jason Tatum wanted to and he was like I'm going to be a ball hog, he could probably score
05:2430 a night.
05:25That's what SGA, that's what Luka Doncic is doing.
05:28They're scoring 30 a night.
05:29But it's not hurting their teams.
05:30What do you mean?
05:31SGA's, they're still in there.
05:33SGA's team is way better.
05:35The talent around SGA's team is way better than the talent around Jalen Brown.
05:40Yeah, they are stacked right now.
05:42They're way better talent than the Celtics.
05:45And so, yeah, SGA, I'm not taking anything away from saying he's not a good player.
05:50But if-
05:50I mean, you are saying that he stat chases.
05:53No, no.
05:53But he-
05:54I thought it was strange when Stephen A. said Peyton Pritchard should be the MVP.
05:57His numbers aren't crazy.
05:59But, Mago, you're a basketball head.
06:01If SGA wasn't on Oklahoma City for this season, they'd still be a good basketball team.
06:06They would be good.
06:07They would not be a Finals contender.
06:09No, I'm not saying they would be a Finals contender, but they'd be a better team, you know, in the
06:15sense of if the Celtics didn't have Jalen Brown, they wouldn't have even been a playoff contender.
06:19Yeah, I don't know what to say.
06:20I just think that Wemby, SGA, and Jokic, like, if you're asking me, compared to what I think is the
06:28next level of, like, Jalen, Cade, like, who are you starting a team with?
06:32I'm taking one of those three.
06:34And that's not disrespect.
06:35Well, that's a different conversation.
06:37We're talking about who the best player of the season.
06:39The MVP is most valuable player for your team.
06:42Nobody thinks of it that way.
06:43Well, see, that's the problem.
06:44They think who had the best season, and that's what they're looking at, Wiggy.
06:47That's the problem.
06:48See, we have, when we're looking at it, that's why, in other sports, they should give the Offensive Player of
06:54the Year award for basketball who has the most points.
06:58A 978 texter says you have gone off of the ledge here.
07:02How?
07:02Because you were saying that Jalen, Wiggy, that Jalen Brown is a better two-way player than the back-to
07:08-back MVP of the NBA.
07:10SGA?
07:10He is?
07:11Yes.
07:12SGA don't play no defense?
07:13Amen.
07:15Have you watched SGA play?
07:16He don't play no defense.
07:19I mean, so, to that person, what was it, you said a text message?
07:22Watch SGA play.
07:23You can watch him play tonight.
07:26He plays no defense.
07:27He can score and he can make plays, but he ain't no two-way play.
07:31Jalen Brown, when he locks in to play defense, and we've seen this before, he shut Luka Doncic down in
07:36the NBA Finals last year.
07:37I think you're exaggerating a little bit how little defense has SGA plays.
07:40You know the point that I'm trying to make.
07:42When I say no defense, I understand the guy plays defense, but not on the same level as Jalen Brown.
07:47Let's stop that.
07:48It's going to be really hard to break into this award once Wemby really gets going.
07:53I mean, he's going to take over the league, is what you should expect.
07:56All right.
