00:00We can talk Game 1 of the NBA Finals and the Knicks, who have shocked some in this room with
00:08a win last night.
00:10Jalen Brunson is going to be tough to beat in this series.
00:14The guy is money, absolute money.
00:16They tried to take out his entire leg in the first quarter, and they couldn't do it.
00:21Well, enjoy. The world is going to end in a little over a week, so enjoy it while you can.
00:26Once the Knicks win the championship, forget about it. This place is going to implode.
00:31Did you see the Knicks fans there? Oh, man. Enjoy a week.
00:36Everybody traveled. It was like, we had to see Ben Stiller high-fiving, Timothee Chalamet, who somehow is aging even
00:45further backwards.
00:45He looked like he was 12 last night sitting on the sideline.
00:49He looked like a truancy officer was going to come and cuff him.
00:52Yes. Would anything surprise you about that game last night, Mego, since you're a hoop head?
00:59Not really, because I've been telling you guys that I think it's going to be a better matchup between the
01:03Knicks and the Spurs than a lot of people thought.
01:06Last night's game shows me if, like, Wemby the alien doesn't show up, then the Spurs, they struggle.
01:15Like, and I know they were up by 14 at one point, and Wemby had an off night, and I
01:19think part of that was because Champagny, you know, knocked down some threes in the first half.
01:24But when Wemby is not like Wemby the alien, and I told you the Knicks can do a good job
01:30on him.
01:30They did a pretty good job on him, and we were talking about Cat yesterday and how soon he would
01:36foul out, and you got to give him credit because he did a really, really good job up against him.
01:42I would say this. I thought the Knicks were totally overmatched, and I was dead wrong.
01:46And I would add, if there was a game that the Knicks were going to lose, it was game one.
01:53Usually the team that's got all this rest, they're going up against a team that just won in game seven.
01:58They're tired, but the Spurs were far more game ready, and they're at home.
02:03I thought that was going to be a tough matchup.
02:05But in the first half, it looked like, you know, it wasn't a blowout, but the Spurs were up seven.
02:09Like, I thought the Knicks were going to lose.
02:11No, the Spurs were up 14 points at one time.
02:13I want to say it might have been somewhere early in the third quarter, something along those lines.
02:19They were up by 14.
02:20No, I'm saying, as I was watching, I went to bed at halftime.
02:22I'm sorry, but the way the game unfolded in the second half is the opposite as I would have expected.
02:29And you were looking, and the thing that the Knicks had been doing well all playoff long was knocking down
02:34threes,
02:34and they weren't able to throw the ball in the ocean from behind the three-point line.
02:38And it almost looked like at one point I'm watching the game, and I'm saying to myself,
02:41oh, they're starting to look like the Celtics.
02:43Their threes are not falling.
02:44And, you know, Jalen Brunson is one for seven from the field.
02:48And it's like, all right, you know, this looks like it could be a wrap and down by 14.
02:54And even though Wemby wasn't playing great, they still had the lead.
02:56And then Jalen Brunson made some shots.
02:59Cat made some shots.
03:00And, you know, they started hitting a couple threes here and there.
03:03And Wemby wasn't able to, you know, be the alien that everybody expected them to be.
03:08And they chopped into that lead.
03:10And before you know it, it was like, whoa.
03:12Do you guys feel like you're dead wrong about Mike Brown?
03:14Because I do.
03:15Like, I thought when Thibodeau got fired, that was such a mistake by the Knicks.
03:18And look, now they're three wins from a champion.
03:20It just looked very messy.
03:22It looked like because the Knicks, it looked like they fired him without a plan.
03:26So you're like, okay, this feels very reactionary.
03:29Especially after we watched them beat the Celtics last year.
03:31Yeah, I think I was wrong in real time on that too.
03:34Oh, you on Mike Brown?
03:35Yeah.
03:36I thought they were just kind of like scrambling at the time.
03:39I didn't really.
03:39I thought they were like done with Thibodeau.
03:42Like, I felt like.
03:43The team was?
03:44Yeah, the vibe and the team.
03:45He burns out teams like Bruce Cassidy.
03:47And I knew that they, I didn't know like what direction they were going to go in.
03:51But I felt like a lot of the Knicks players were like just done with his way of coaching
03:56and attitude.
03:57Wiggy, if you could have on this Celtics roster next year, Jalen Brown or Brunson, who are you
04:04going with?
04:05Oh, man, that's not even a question.
04:07I would go with Brunson.
04:08Wait, okay.
04:09Today, we were sitting down on the Cape in Falmouth and I said Brunson could be a top
04:15five MVP candidate and you told me I was crazy.
04:18Why did I say that?
04:19I never said that.
04:20I love Jalen Brunson.
04:21We were talking about who could be top five because you were arguing in favor of Giannis.
04:25And I said, I don't know if Giannis is going to be a top five player next year.
04:29You said, I think you said you would take Brunson over Giannis.
04:31And that's when I said you're crazy.
04:32And Greg said he was hungry.
04:33Yeah, I mean, I love Jalen Brunson.
04:36I think Jalen Brunson is spectacular.
04:38I mean, he was off last night, but those two big shots he did at the end, the corner three
04:42and that like fall away little jump shot he made to kind of seal the game.
04:47Like Jalen Brunson has always been one of those guys.
04:50I think he's only behind Patrick Ewing when it comes to 25 point games for the New York
04:55Knicks, more than 25 points.
04:58Speaking of Jalen Brown, how valid do you think the interest is that New Orleans has in him?
05:05Because I keep seeing potential deals that are floated out there by insiders as a possibility.
05:14I think everybody would want Jalen Brown.
05:17Wouldn't you agree, Mago?
05:18I think that would be like, don't you think that would be a tough one for one?
05:22Because first of all, I don't know that there's anything the Pelicans have that would match
05:27what you're trying to do right now.
05:29I don't want nothing the Pelicans do.
05:30Exactly.
05:30And so second of all, like you need, so you need another team in there somewhere.
05:34And I don't know, does Jalen want to go to the Pelicans?
05:38Like it makes sense he'd want to go to a team like the Hawks because he has a connection
05:42to his hometown.
05:43Well, latest I saw was that they would give up Trey Murphy and Zion.
05:49No thanks.
05:50No thanks.
05:51Yeah, I'm good.
05:52But Greg, I do agree that there are a ton of teams in the NBA that are probably picking
06:00up the phone and calling Brad to say, hey, what can we give you to get Jalen Brown?
06:05I think there are a lot.
06:07Say what you want.
06:08There are a lot of teams that would want Jalen Brown.
06:12New Orleans would much rather Jalen Brown than Zion Williams.
06:15Atlanta would love him down there.
06:16I mean, Milwaukee would love him.
06:18The question to, I think, to your point, Mago, is as a Celtics fan, I'm not just giving you
06:26Jalen Brown.
06:27You need to give me something that I actually want.
06:30And I don't want Zion.
06:32I'm feeling more like Jalen's going to be here.
06:34Yeah.
06:34I know there was so, so much noise and much of it started by him immediately after their
06:40exit.
06:41But I feel like they're trying to keep him there.
06:45I think he's, here's the thing.
06:48I'm wondering where Giannis lands.
06:50I don't know.
06:51Miami.
06:52So I think Giannis, it's either Boston or Miami.
06:56Or Miami.
06:57Yeah.
06:57I don't know if New York is still in the picture.
06:59I don't think so.
07:00Who would ever want to go here over Miami?
07:03Not for the team, for the city.
07:05I get it.
07:06No tax.
07:06Yeah.
07:07Oh, no.
07:07But I'm saying like.
07:09It's beautiful.
07:09But if you're going to trade them.
07:11They have an ice cream museum.
07:12Do they have Kowloon?
07:14I don't think so.
07:15But if they say.
07:16The most overrated restaurant in the history of the world.
07:18Kowloon opened a new beachfront.
07:19Shut your mouth.
07:20Yeah, yeah, yeah.
07:21Saugus Wings are spectacular.
07:23It's literally the most overrated thing in the world.
07:24What is wrong with you?
07:26Why do you have the hate on Kowloon?
07:27It brings so many people joy.
07:29It threatens to close every year.
07:31Saugus Wings, by far the best wings around.
07:34If I brought you Kowloon and another Chinese restaurant's food right next to it and didn't
07:38tell you which was which, you wouldn't be able to discern it.
07:40Chinese!
07:44Chinese, kid!
07:47I love the vibe of Kowloon.
07:49I like going to the Kowloon.
07:51I cannot co-sign on that.
07:52It's a great outing.
07:54They got a little Revere Beach Kowloon.
07:56Yeah, it just opened.
07:57I will say the only Kowloon I loved was briefly behind home plate at Fenway.
08:01There was a Kowloon stand.
08:03Do you remember that?
08:04Yeah.
08:05Yes, yes, yes.
08:06Great boneless spare ribs.
08:07The teriyaki nuggets.
08:09Woo!
08:09All right.
08:10Well, Leeds coming up.
08:12We'll get those underway shortly.
08:14They said it at 720 or thereabouts this morning.
08:19That includes what Nick Saban said to Congress yesterday that he believes is ruining college
08:27football.
08:28Will Nick Saban go somewhere?
08:30Like, seriously.
08:31Sit down on your...
08:32One of the greatest ever.
08:34Do it.
08:34No, great coach.
08:35But go sit down on your $6 million lake house somewhere with your six Ferrari dealerships
08:42and, I don't know, put an egg roll in your mouth.
08:45Make some interesting points about the direction of college football.
08:48Please.
08:48The guy made...
08:49They may be unsustainable.
08:50The guy made an S-ton of money in college football.
08:53Have you ever been told to put an egg roll in a swing?
08:56It's very visual.
