00:31And welcome again to the big match.
00:32And three more games for you today, each of them filled with plenty of incident.
00:37For our main match, we go to Stamford Bridge for the London Derby game between Chelsea and Spurs.
00:42Nice put.
00:44Hausman's gone on.
00:45And Hausman with a chance.
00:47Oh, and he's missed it.
00:49What a miss.
00:50Also, Nottingham Forest against Leeds.
00:52Jones on the jump.
00:54And number 11 is Eddie Gray.
00:57And the goal has not been allowed.
00:59And Luton against Portsmouth.
01:02Travellecock turns.
01:03And reads leg.
01:04Here's Jennings.
01:06And there were five goals in that Luton game.
01:08A studio guest today, David Webb of Chelsea.
01:11Welcome to him.
01:11But now let's get on with the action down at Stamford Bridge yesterday between two Jekyll and Hyde sides.
01:16Chelsea, who after a dismal start to the season, now going superbly.
01:20Spurs unbeaten at home, but so far no wins away.
01:23And first of all, it's the Chelsea side.
01:25And with injuries to Boyle and Baldwin, it means a further chance for Paddy Mulligan at number two and Steve
01:30Kemba at eight.
01:32That leaves us with the Spurs side.
01:34And a close-up look at their line-up shows that full-back Cyril Knowles has recovered from an ankle
01:39injury received against Arsenal.
01:40So they are unchanged.
01:42Two great sides, then, who can cancel each other out in so many respects.
01:47Because when it comes to goal scorers, Chelsea, first of all, can point to their own Peter Osgood with 19.
01:53Spurs, meanwhile, can say, what about Martin Chivers with 24?
01:57Then, when it comes to big buys, Chelsea have £170,000 worth of Steve Kemba.
02:02And Spurs have Ralph Coates, who cost them £190,000.
02:06So as the two skippers, Martin Peters of Spurs and Ron Harris, meet, the referee is Brian Daniels of Raynham
02:12in Essex.
02:13The £52,000 crowd, the Chelsea section having plenty to say at that end.
02:17Counted at the other end by the Spurs supporters.
02:20And there's even one of those marvellous RAF police dogs as a part of the show.
02:24So Spurs, then, who've yet to win away from home this season.
02:29Kick-off, defending the goal to our left.
02:31White shirts and shorts, yellow stockings,
02:33against a Chelsea side who've won their last five games
02:36and have been unbeaten in their last ten.
02:40But in derby games, past records don't really count for too much,
02:43with so much pride at stake,
02:45with two such classy sides here.
02:47Here's Kemba.
02:50Challenged by Philip Beal.
02:52And then presented with the ball by Alan Gilsey.
02:55Hudson.
02:57Mulligan.
02:58Who is in for the injured John Boyle.
03:01Hook.
03:02Back to Hollins.
03:08Searching ball into that Spurs penalty area.
03:10And it's Pat Jennings.
03:15Chivers going fast for that one.
03:17And what a beautiful little lay-off for Neymar.
03:20Dempsey coming across.
03:21He's lost to Chivers for the moment.
03:24But we're picking up Coates and turning the ball into touch for Tottenham's throw.
03:29Chivers already going across to take it.
03:32And that means one of those effortless long throws of his into that Chelsea goal mouth.
03:38Ray Evans.
03:41And Beal.
03:43Peters getting ahead to it.
03:45Dempsey also.
03:47And now Kemba.
03:49Kemba and Coates there.
03:51Hollins.
03:54Two sides who are soon to meet in the semi-finals of the Football League Cup.
04:01First leg of which is here just before Christmas.
04:04And the second one at Tottenham early in the new year.
04:09Hudson with the throw for Chelsea.
04:15Hudson.
04:16Hudson.
04:18Perryman there scuffling in.
04:20Hudson finding Hollins who was on another good run.
04:23And that should be a corner to Chelsea.
04:25The ball going off Martin Peters.
04:28So Pat Jennings.
04:30Who will be put under pressure.
04:31Knowles at the far post.
04:33Evans at the near post.
04:36Mike England right in there too.
04:38Hudson with the corner.
04:39And that wasn't far away.
04:41But the touch came off the Chelsea player.
04:44Either Osgood or Dempsey who was right up.
04:50Knowles who was having a fine season for Tottenham.
04:52But he was doubtful yesterday with an ankle injury received in the Arsenal match.
04:56But now Cook.
04:57And Osgood in a lot of space on the right for him.
05:00Hudson going hard into the middle.
05:01And Hausman too.
05:03Still Osgood.
05:06And now Cook.
05:07And he turned it in.
05:09No he can't.
05:10And Peters right back there.
05:12Taking a push from his own goalkeeper.
05:14But Spurs for a second or two.
05:16Were in tremendous trouble.
05:19And Chelsea at the moment in these opening five minutes.
05:23Are making the running.
05:25Hudson.
05:28Oh between the legs of Gilsane to Hollins.
05:31A little dink again.
05:32And Osgood hoping to get on the end of it.
05:34And Tottenham's goal kick.
05:39Oh Peter Osgood already showing a bit of appetite for this match.
05:42Perhaps needing a big occasion to pull out the best of him.
05:51Knowles.
05:52Knowles.
05:53And Perryman.
05:55Coates.
05:59Knowles.
06:03Coates once more.
06:05Perryman.
06:06Good tackle there by Perryman.
06:08Never shirts a tackle.
06:10first time in there by Peters
06:12but now it's Cook again for Chelsea
06:14Mulligan
06:21and the feet were high
06:22on Marnin Peters
06:24and so it's a free kick for Spurs
06:31Coates going towards that Chelsea
06:32penalty area
06:34Nulls to take the free kick
06:37Tivers in fact getting ahead to that one
06:39and Chelsea holding off a moment
06:42and now Kemper to bring it away for them
06:46Mulligan
06:48and Hudson
06:52good jump there by Hausman
06:55now it's Cook
06:57Hausman's gone on
06:58and Hausman with a chance
07:00oh and he's missed it
07:01what a miss
07:05again that's Spurs defence
07:08left wanting
07:09and it was Ray Evans who was in the middle of it
07:12and Hausman who surely should have put Chelsea ahead
07:16well he'll be furious with himself for that
07:20chances in the first division don't come easier than that
07:29Neva
07:32comprehensively beaten though by Paddy Mulligan
07:36Hudson
07:41for Hollands
07:45oh Osgood there
07:46left dangerously loose by that Spurs defence
07:49and taken with a late tackle by England
07:51Cook with the shot but it's over
07:52and Osgood is down
07:54and it really was a bad tackle by Mike England
07:57and the referee coming across
07:59towards that situation but away from England
08:02Mike England probably a little conscious
08:04that he was leaving Osgood a yard or two free
08:06when that situation developed
08:11well Osgood all right again
08:13some strapping round his right foot as you can see
08:19and Pat Jennings to take the goal kick
08:28Dempsey
08:31Haussmann leaning on Evans
08:33and in fact Evans penalised
08:34and I wouldn't have thought there was too much
08:36he could have done about that
08:39he kept his eye on the ball
08:40and he had Haussmann pushing into him
08:42and a chance for Hollins
08:44to blast another of those famous free kicks of his
08:47no it's Hudson instead to chip it over
08:49Osgood right in there
08:50just passed
08:58brilliantly conceded free kick there by Chelsea
09:01Spurs stealing themselves for the drive from Hollins
09:05now neighbour
09:07invitingly in space
09:10Hudson pursuing him
09:14Perriman
09:18Evans making the overlap for him
09:20that's the ball for Ray Evans
09:22good cross by Evans
09:23and a corner to Tottenham
09:29well I would think that'll make Evans feel a little happier
09:31and certainly some of his form against Arsenal was good
09:33Burnetti doing his share of shouting
09:35good break by Ray Evans
09:41neighbour with a kick
09:42Mulligan waiting for it
09:45neighbour turning it back first time there
09:47and now Peters
09:48oh and a fine save
09:49and it's not away yet
09:51Hudson
09:52and it's still not away
09:53but a fine save there
09:56reflex save by Burnetti
09:58from Martin Peters
09:59Chelsea now
10:00with Cook
10:08and down goes Jennings
10:10that ball
10:11skidding across that patch of mud
10:12in that goal mouth
10:13not making it easy for him
10:15Chelsea manager Dave Sexton
10:16has deserted his
10:18crow's nest on the top of the stand
10:20obviously wants a little change of tactics somewhere
10:22having a work with Chris Garland on the left
10:24the Chelsea substitute
10:27now Kemba
10:30Hudson
10:30and Oscar trying to get in with the head
10:32and it fell just behind Cook
10:34and Kemba
10:35and to safety for Tottenham
10:49Dempsey
10:50a little moment ago
10:54it looked as though Martin Peters
10:55was the player who was more seriously hurt
10:57Ron Harris who's just played that one forward
10:59seems to be struggling a good deal
11:01more than Peters at the moment
11:02but Osgood
11:02turning that ball in nicely
11:04for Kemba
11:05but Herriman doing
11:06tremendous covering again
11:08for Tottenham
11:11Noles
11:16Gilzeen
11:17and Noles to Chivers
11:18desperately trying to get away
11:19from that Chelsea defence
11:20and succeeding in finding Gilzeen
11:22but that's Harris
11:25and now Dempsey
11:26and now Dempsey
11:33Hudson to Harris
11:37Ron Harris still obviously not feeling himself
11:43Hollins
11:45got a space there for him
11:47and a long range shot
11:47but
11:49wide enough
11:53but Hollins
11:54who really has had
11:54a good scoring record this season
11:56with 11 goals
11:57four of them from penalties
12:04Dempsey
12:04Dempsey doing a bit of pushing
12:05to get his head to it
12:06and being penalised for it
12:07Tottenham's free kick
12:08on Chivers
12:14Harris who really does seem to be
12:16feeling the effects of the knock
12:17he had moments ago
12:28Webb
12:29letting Cook go ahead with it
12:30probably one of the most encouraging
12:31sights of all
12:32in any afternoon
12:33for Chelsea
12:33is when Charlie Cook
12:35badly wants to get a touch
12:36of the ball all the time
12:38good play there by Hollins
12:40but Peters to cut it out
12:42now to Coates
12:45Neva
12:53of Harris
12:54for Kemper
12:57Osgood
12:57followed by England
12:59although it's deep into that Chelsea half
13:00Hudson
13:01Mulligan
13:13Hudson taking this one
13:18to Cook
13:21Beal watching him
13:23and knows
13:26and he still gets away with it
13:27beautiful play there by Cook
13:29in such a confined space
13:30Mulligan
13:31to turn it in once more
13:32Osgood
13:33on his body
13:34beautiful skills by Osgood
13:36but not quite the shot
13:37at the end to match it
13:40and a lovely piece of
13:42artistic play
13:43by Peter Osgood
13:45in a game
13:46that so far
13:47in the first half hour
13:48has certainly had no shortage
13:50of really talented football
13:53and in that respect
13:54Charlie Cook
13:55has played his part too
13:57Hudson
14:03and Evans
14:05and another throw to Chelsea
14:06and certainly after their patchy form
14:07in the opening part of the season
14:09it's quite easy to see why Chelsea have had this good recent run
14:12as Beal gets in that time
14:14and concedes the corner
14:15and we're now well into injury time
14:17at the end of the first half
14:20Beal and Perryman
14:21who've done a wonderful job for Spurs
14:24and really done so much
14:26to keep them afloat
14:27on level terms
14:28at 0-0
14:30perhaps now facing
14:31the last crisis
14:32of the first half
14:33as Hudson takes the corner
14:34for Chelsea
14:36Webb going in
14:38and Hudson again
14:42good piece of play there
14:43by Evans
14:43coming out so quickly
14:44to make it difficult
14:45for Hudson
14:48Hudson with room
14:49to cross it once more
14:50and a header there
14:51and a good save
14:52by Jennings
14:53from Charlie Cook
15:03and really it would have been
15:04no injustice
15:04on the run of the play
15:05of the first half
15:06if Chelsea had gone in
15:07with that one goal lead
15:11where the Spurs
15:12are conscious
15:13of their pour away record
15:14they look a very withdrawn side
15:15so far this afternoon
15:16and really have had
15:18just this one shot
15:21saved by Peter Bonetti
15:23from Martin Peters
15:25certainly had this hard game
15:26against Arsenal
15:27on Wednesday night
15:29though Chelsea had
15:30this testimonial match
15:30on Tuesday
15:31against Rangers
15:34now Neymar
15:38the twinkling skills
15:40but the ball
15:40into touch again
15:41for Chelsea's throw
15:43but a highly skilful
15:45first half
15:45and a very entertaining
15:46one as well
15:47just that one commodity
15:48goals missing
15:49at the moment
15:54so there's the half-time whistle
15:56with two sides
15:56who really looked up
15:57to their entertainment value
15:59certainly in the first half
16:00and particularly Chelsea
16:04with Peter Hausman
16:05who had a brilliant smell
16:06but certainly missed
16:06an open goal
16:07that would have put them ahead
16:08still to come for you
16:09to enjoy on the big match
16:10this afternoon
16:11highlights from
16:12Nottingham Forest
16:13against Leeds United
16:13and Luton Town
16:15against Portsmouth
16:16but the half-time score
16:17here at a packed
16:18Stamford Bridge
16:19is Chelsea nil
16:21Spurs nil
16:22and we'll be back
16:23with you in a couple
16:24of minutes
16:37so Chelsea then
16:38who've had so much
16:38of the first half
16:39get us away now
16:40at the start of the second
16:42Hollins
16:45the line's been flagging
16:46for a push
16:46presumably by Ray Evans
16:48on Peter Hausman
16:50no he's given it
16:51the other way
16:51the referee in fact
16:54seemed to think
16:55it was that way as well
16:56but the line's been
16:56indicating that it was
16:57probably an offside decision
17:11Mulligan
17:14Mulligan again
17:17and Beal
17:18once more there
17:18for Spurs
17:24Kemba
17:29and now it's Gilzeen
17:35Chivers fighting
17:36for the ball there
17:38which is something
17:38he wasn't doing
17:39to very good effect
17:40in the first half
17:42and I'm sure
17:43one of the Chelsea
17:44substitutes
17:44dying to get on
17:46Chris Garland
17:47the £100,000 man
17:48from Bristol City
17:54Gilzeen
17:55nice ball there
17:56for Perryman
17:57and now for Evans
18:01Labour
18:02beaten by Harris
18:03Evans versus Harris
18:05and Harris comes away
18:06with it
18:06and Evans is down
18:07holding his leg
18:09Osgood
18:12and now it's
18:13Coates
18:15turned nicely there
18:16for Gilzeen
18:18and Martin Peters
18:19having a word
18:20with the referee
18:20I think he fears
18:21that Ray Evans
18:22might be badly hurt
18:26now it's Coates
18:28now Beal
18:31and Beal
18:32putting it in a touch
18:33so that the trainer
18:34can come on
18:34to have a look
18:35at Ray Evans
18:40Spurs give her
18:41Alan Mullery
18:41who's having
18:43this stomach
18:44trouble
18:45an injury there
18:46that is taking
18:46a bit of time
18:47to heal
18:48and looking anxiously
18:48there towards
18:49Ray Evans
18:53and young
18:54John Pratt
18:54who filled
18:55the number
18:56four shirt
18:56of Alan Mullery
18:57for a few weeks
18:57and did it
18:58to a very good
18:58effect too
18:59well Evans
19:00not too badly
19:01the worst for wear
19:09Cook
19:16back to Mulligan
19:18long driving ball
19:19there towards
19:20Hausman
19:20Osgood
19:21right in there
19:22too
19:24the linesman
19:25is flagging
19:25but is he going
19:27to give it inside
19:27Jimmy Neighbours
19:28hand it was
19:29that the ball
19:30touched
19:30Osgood
19:31smiling away
19:33I think he
19:34half suspected
19:35that was a penalty
19:35and it would be
19:36very interesting
19:36to look back
19:37and see whether
19:37in fact that ball
19:39was just inside
19:40the area
19:40or just outside
19:41it
19:42the referee
19:43is saying
19:44it was a good
19:44two yards outside
19:45Jimmy Neighbours
19:46I would think
19:46vastly relieved
19:47the free kick
19:48then to Chelsea
19:49between Hollins
19:51and Hudson
19:56and just passed
19:58from Hollins
20:03sending even
20:04Pat Jennings
20:04for all
20:05his flying dive
20:06could have got
20:06to that one
20:11Skipper getting
20:11some advice
20:12from the touchline
20:14or a push
20:15there by Webb
20:16on Peters
20:17unmistakable
20:19whatever David Webb
20:20may say
20:20that must have
20:21been a push
20:21on Martin Peters
20:27and he gives Spurs
20:28the free kick
20:38he's put it
20:39for Chivers
20:40to hit it
20:40first time
20:47must be a long
20:48time since
20:49Martin
20:49Chivers
20:50has had
20:50so quiet
20:51a game
20:51as this
20:51by firing
20:52away
20:53Tottenham's top
20:54scorer last
20:54season
20:55and 24
20:55already to his
20:57credit this
20:57season
20:57and really
20:58without a shot
20:59so far
21:00Chelsea trainer
21:01Harry Medhurst
21:02their former
21:02goalkeeper
21:02and West Ham
21:03too of course
21:07changed his mind
21:08about playing
21:08it for Chivers
21:09but now Chivers
21:09might get another
21:10chance
21:10no Webb
21:11in a touch
21:12a game
21:12but Spurs
21:13long throw
21:14with Martin
21:16Chivers
21:18again no effort
21:19but all the
21:20distance you would
21:21want
21:21and Gilzean
21:22turning it back
21:23Coates now
21:24and down goes
21:25Bonetti
21:25from Ralph
21:26Coates
21:32going the long
21:33throw that
21:33causes a certain
21:34amount of
21:35trouble
21:55Cyril Knowles
22:01great challenge
22:02there by Chivers
22:03on Mulligan
22:03Gilzean
22:04to lay that
22:05off nicely
22:05for Coates
22:06Evans has gone
22:07streaking down
22:08the right
22:08for Tottenham
22:09and that's
22:09beautifully weighted
22:10by Coates
22:10for Evans
22:12and a corner
22:13to Spurs
22:18that was much
22:19more like
22:19Ralph Coates
22:20as well
22:20a beautifully
22:21weighted ball
22:21there for Evans
22:22down the right
22:23Neighbours
22:24going across
22:24to take the
22:25corner
22:25and England
22:26has come
22:27right up
22:27for it
22:29Osgood
22:29back with
22:30him
22:35they thought
22:36about a short
22:36one for a
22:37moment
22:37now Neighbours
22:38the long
22:38one
22:40Peters there
22:40with his
22:41head
22:42Mulligan
22:43now for
22:43Chelsea
22:50Biel
22:50Biel
22:51versus
22:51Cook
22:53and Biel
22:54a long
22:54way back
22:54to
22:55Pat
22:55Jennings
23:03Chivers again
23:03beaten in the air
23:04that time
23:04by David Webb
23:05and now
23:05it's with
23:06Hudson
23:30good play by Chelsea
23:32Dempsey to Osgood
23:35falling for Hudson
23:38swept nicely there
23:39for Kemba
23:40a little fortunate
23:41hit him on the
23:42back
23:45aimed again
23:46there a chance
23:47for Cook
23:47and a goal
23:48for Chelsea
23:50by Charlie Cook
23:56beautiful ball
23:57though in the
23:57first place
23:58that set it up
24:01for Kemba
24:02on the right
24:02and Cook
24:04taking his cross
24:05superbly
24:05to give
24:07Jennings no chance
24:10so Chelsea
24:11then
24:12leading by a
24:13goal to nil
24:13with 16 minutes
24:14of the second
24:15half gone
24:17and that was
24:18only Charlie Cook's
24:19third goal
24:19of the season
24:26and now Spurs
24:27with this
24:28bad away record
24:29remember they
24:30haven't won away
24:30from home
24:31this season
24:33face a Chelsea
24:34that are a goal
24:34up
24:34and a Chelsea
24:36side
24:36that have
24:37conceded only
24:38five goals
24:38in their last
24:39ten games
24:42so a wonderful
24:43defensive record
24:44that Spurs
24:44have got to break
24:45now
24:45Webb
24:45to take the
24:46free kick
24:47for Chelsea
24:54Osgood
24:54winning it
24:55in the air
24:55Cook
24:55the first
24:56timer
24:56but Jennings
24:57behind it
25:01Knowles
25:08Webb
25:09to head it
25:09away
25:10but that's
25:10Perryman
25:11now Coates
25:12Naber on the
25:13right
25:15but well
25:15taken out
25:16by Harris
25:16Naber
25:17if anything
25:17looked just
25:18a little
25:18lightweight
25:18this afternoon
25:20and the
25:21Chelsea
25:21supporters
25:23scarves
25:23a lot
25:24delighted
25:25with that
25:25one goalie
25:29Perryman
25:30to Peters
25:32good shot
25:33there by
25:33Peters
25:33and he
25:34called
25:34for a
25:34good save
25:35too
25:35from
25:35Burnetti
25:37took that
25:37short pass
25:38from Perryman
25:38well
25:39and with men
25:39closing in
25:40on him
25:40still got
25:40it in
25:45Chivers
25:46first to
25:46react to
25:47that
25:48ball
25:48that was
25:48allowed to
25:49go a
25:49surprisingly
25:49long way
25:51but now
25:52Harris
25:56Cook
25:59and
25:59Chelsea's
26:00throw
26:07good piece
26:08of play
26:09by
26:09Hausmann
26:09Cook
26:11and now
26:12Hollins
26:12with a chance
26:13to hit
26:13one
26:14just
26:15past
26:15that
26:16Spurs
26:16post
26:16again
26:24now
26:25Nose
26:34that's
26:34sort of
26:34one
26:35two
26:35there
26:35with
26:35John
26:35Pratt
26:36the
26:36substitute
26:36on
26:36for
26:36Gilzean
26:38neighbor
26:41Pratt
26:44across
26:44there
26:45for
26:45Peters
26:45to go
26:45storming
26:46in
26:46on
26:46it
26:49Hudson
26:50Mulligan
26:51a long
26:51way
26:52clear
26:52Mulligan
26:52really
26:52has
26:53had
26:53a
26:53good
26:53game
26:55Evans
26:55to
26:56Coates
26:59Evans
26:59again
26:59a chance
27:00to cross
27:00this one
27:01so much
27:02room for
27:02him to
27:02do it
27:03and
27:04Chivers
27:04and he
27:05quite
27:05couldn't
27:06force it
27:06home
27:07very nearly
27:08got in
27:08there to
27:08force it
27:09home
27:13but very
27:14good
27:14brave
27:15goalkeeping
27:15by Peter
27:16Bonetti
27:17and Chelsea
27:18winning the
27:18free kick
27:25good cross
27:26by Evans
27:26too
27:31Peters forward
27:32again
27:32again
27:33but Webb
27:33as safe
27:34as he
27:34has been
27:35the whole
27:35afternoon
27:36Mulligan
27:39and now
27:40Hollings
27:44and now
27:44goes
27:45house
27:45and he's
27:45all right
27:46he's onside
27:46but Jennings
27:48is there
27:48before
27:56England
28:00to Evans
28:06Knowles
28:07just a shade
28:08over two
28:09minutes left
28:09now
28:09Peters
28:11they've
28:11really got
28:11to manufacture
28:13something out
28:14of nothing
28:14now Spurs
28:14and here's
28:15Ray Evans
28:15surging forward
28:16for him
28:17again
28:18Coates
28:21fair look
28:22across there
28:22Peters
28:22going in
28:23and just
28:23over
28:24from Martin
28:25Chivers
28:27and that's
28:28it
28:29Chelsea take
28:30their run
28:31of wins
28:31to six
28:32and Spurs
28:33have still
28:33the win
28:34away from
28:34home
28:35Charlie Cook
28:36the man
28:37who scored
28:37the only goal
28:38of a high
28:39class game
28:40full of the
28:41right sort
28:41of talents
28:41here at
28:42Stamford Bridge
28:43this afternoon
28:46Chelsea now
28:46take it
28:47to 11
28:47without a
28:48win
28:48without
28:49defeat
28:53Steve Kemper
28:54coming off
28:55and Charlie
28:55Cook
28:56so much
28:57invention
28:57in this
28:58Chelsea
28:59attack
29:00so the
29:01final score
29:01here at
29:02Stamford Bridge
29:02this afternoon
29:03Chelsea 1
29:05Spurs 0
29:07and the
29:07Chelsea manager
29:08Dave Sexton
29:09and chairman
29:09Brian Mears
29:10both confirmed
29:11afterwards that
29:11that was probably
29:12Chelsea's best home
29:12performance of the
29:13season
29:13Spurs manager
29:14Bill Nicholson
29:14would simply say
29:15we were very
29:26disappointing
29:26still to come
29:27for you today
29:27to enjoy
29:28your highlights
29:28of Nottingham Forest
29:29against Leeds
29:30and Luton
29:30against Portsmouth
29:31but now let's meet
29:32a man who had a
29:32couple of stitches
29:33in a head wound
29:34after that game
29:34at Chelsea
29:35yesterday
29:35Chelsea defender
29:36David Webb
29:37with him
29:37Jimmy Hill
29:38last time
29:38we could see
29:39the stitches
29:40this time
29:40they're hidden
29:41under that
29:41beautiful hair
29:42but Chelsea's
29:43great improvement
29:43yesterday
29:44everybody enjoyed
29:45that game
29:45coming at the
29:47end of a long run
29:48of better
29:48performances
29:49when you were
29:49knocked out of
29:50Europe
29:50what's brought
29:51the difference
29:52I think it's
29:53an all-round
29:54belief in each
29:55other
29:55I think that's
29:56particularly
29:56what's instigated
29:58a change
29:59in the mood
30:01and everything
30:01we've got players
30:02all wanting to
30:03play for each
30:03other
30:03helping each
30:04other
30:05working for
30:05each other
30:06and I think
30:06it showed up
30:07yesterday
30:07against Tottenham
30:08were you a bit
30:08complacent at the
30:09start of the
30:09season
30:10I think
30:11complacency
30:12starts from
30:13a feeling
30:14of overconfidence
30:15which possibly
30:16we had last
30:17year when we
30:17played
30:17Real Madrid
30:18we came back
30:19we had a very
30:20short summer
30:20and we came
30:23back and
30:24probably we had
30:25a little bit
30:25of a hangover
30:26from the Real
30:26Madrid game
30:27a hangover
30:28I mean a hangover
30:29you're not
30:29I mean a hangover
30:30what about
30:31individual performances
30:32of players
30:33during that time
30:34who've suddenly
30:35improved
30:35well I don't
30:37think anyone
30:37can outshine
30:39Alan Hudson
30:39for his
30:39improvement
30:40and Peter
30:42Burnetti
30:42at the back
30:43you know
30:44Alan Hudson
30:45played a big
30:46part in that
30:47goal yesterday
30:47I think that's
30:48probably his
30:48finest game
30:49of the season
30:50I was a bit
30:50disappointed in
30:51the way from
30:51a very promising
30:52start he'd slip
30:53back but he
30:53seems to have
30:54recaptured all
30:55of his old
30:55form
30:55it's a tremendous
30:57start to this
30:57goal
30:58well he's
30:59absolutely
30:59you know
31:00he's got his
31:01old feeling
31:01back again
31:02you know
31:02he plays this
31:03one two with
31:03John Dempsey
31:04back again
31:05John does a
31:06terrific ball up
31:07here to
31:07Peter Osgood
31:09and this type
31:10of move
31:11Ozzy's showing
31:12no mean skill
31:12there to
31:14get away from
31:15Mike England's
31:15sliding tackle
31:16but it's this
31:17ball that spreads
31:18out the play
31:18that really
31:19opens up the
31:19defence
31:20there are four
31:20Spurs players
31:21they're beaten
31:21as it's aimed
31:22away from them
31:23and a little
31:23behind trap
31:24there by Steve
31:25Kemba
31:26but it's as
31:27the cost comes
31:27over I think
31:28Cyril Knowles
31:29won't want to
31:29see this very
31:30much because he
31:30ducks his head
31:31and takes his
31:32eye off the
31:32ball there
31:32leaving Charlie
31:34Cook not much
31:34time but he
31:36didn't need very
31:37much time and he
31:37flashed it straight
31:38in the net
31:40what's brought
31:41about this with
31:42Alan Hudson
31:42I'm very interested
31:43in this young
31:43lad because the
31:44first time I saw
31:45him I thought
31:46what a tremendous
31:47talent he had
31:48and then suddenly
31:49it all appeared
31:50to just fritter
31:51away
31:52well I think
31:53he had a very
31:54big disappointment
31:55the other year
31:56when we was in
31:57the cup final
31:57and he's taken
32:00him a year or so
32:00to get over it
32:01I mean he's still
32:01a very young fella
32:03and he's just
32:04got married and
32:04he's got a
32:05stability now that
32:05possibly he may
32:06not have had
32:06I don't know
32:07but what he's
32:08done now he's
32:09brought himself
32:09back into line
32:10and he's a much
32:11more mature player
32:12than I've ever seen
32:12tremendous performance
32:13yesterday but
32:14extraordinarily
32:14enough although
32:15people might have
32:16said you should
32:16have won by
32:16three or four
32:17goals in the
32:18end of course
32:18you could have
32:19you almost
32:19let a draw
32:20get into the
32:21score sheets
32:22yeah well I
32:23think that was
32:24particularly my
32:24fault you know
32:25there was a
32:25time there
32:26I let Martin
32:27Chevers get
32:27behind me
32:28and he had
32:29a blinding
32:30header
32:30what about
32:31in the first
32:32half though
32:32there was
32:32this point
32:33blank save
32:34there from
32:35before we
32:36look at that
32:36one from
32:37Martin Peters
32:38those reactions
32:39of Peter
32:40Bonetti
32:42quite fantastic
32:42now let's
32:43look at that
32:43second half
32:44one where
32:44you've already
32:45taken the
32:45blame
32:45but we can
32:47see really
32:47who it was
32:48who pulled
32:48you out of
32:49trouble
32:51there's the
32:52cross
32:54you've got
32:54caught with
32:55Chivers but
32:55Peter Bonetti
32:56the cat
32:58on the floor
32:58he's had a
33:00spell
33:00people still
33:00talk about
33:01his World Cup
33:02performance
33:02very unfairly
33:03in a way
33:04it's one of
33:04those things
33:04that's always
33:05dragged up
33:06but over the
33:07past few
33:07weeks
33:07you've hardly
33:07let in any
33:08goals at all
33:09his form has
33:09been remarkable
33:11very remarkable
33:11I think
33:12what Peter
33:13is so good
33:13at is that
33:14when he's
33:14not in the
33:15game
33:15he's actually
33:16in it
33:16because the
33:17ball will
33:18come up
33:18our end
33:18of the
33:18field
33:19and all
33:20of a sudden
33:20he'll have
33:20to be in
33:21the game
33:21and a lot
33:22of goalkeepers
33:22can't respond
33:23so quickly
33:23but Peter
33:24responds very
33:24quickly
33:25and you
33:25always find
33:26the ball
33:26that's flashing
33:27past you
33:27you think
33:27oh he's
33:28you know
33:28that's in
33:29and he's
33:30always leaping
33:30across his
33:31goal
33:31and pulling
33:31them down
33:32marvellous
33:32well it was
33:33a very good
33:33all-round
33:34performance
33:34yesterday
33:35how do you
33:35see the rest
33:36of the season
33:36going for
33:36Chelsea
33:37you're in
33:37the semi-final
33:38of the league
33:38cup
33:38you're still
33:39in the FA
33:39cup
33:40I mean
33:40not had a
33:40chance to
33:41be knocked
33:41out
33:41the league
33:42you're beginning
33:43to creep up
33:43on all the
33:44other London
33:44clubs
33:46well if I was
33:47to be a
33:47gambling man
33:48it's just the
33:48way I'd like
33:49to see my
33:49horse win a
33:50race
33:51for the league
33:52for anything
33:53because I think
33:53it's just the
33:54right time of the
33:55season to start
33:55going
33:56it's just like
33:57I'd like to see
33:57my horse start
33:58to come to
33:58win a race
33:59in a
34:00mile race
34:01or something
34:02well all the
34:03Chelsea stallions
34:04there at
34:04Stamford Bridge
34:05they certainly
34:05showed class
34:06form yesterday
34:07and let's hope
34:08David that they
34:09continue to do
34:09that for the
34:10rest of the season
34:10I hope you
34:11might Jim
34:12it's worth
34:12watching
34:14well in fact
34:15it was worth
34:15watching yesterday
34:16and I thoroughly
34:16enjoyed it
34:17but there were
34:17just a couple
34:18of tackles
34:18which I want
34:19to draw your
34:19attention to
34:20the first one
34:21by Mike
34:21England on
34:22Peter Osgood
34:23and what you
34:24have to decide
34:25here as
34:25Hollies plays
34:26the ball over
34:27is whether in
34:27fact Mike
34:28England was
34:29going for the
34:29ball or whether
34:30he was going
34:31for the man
34:31he lunges his
34:32foot through
34:33it's a typical
34:33England tackle
34:34but I think
34:35one could say
34:35there although
34:36Osgood fell
34:36very heavily
34:37that there was
34:38some justification
34:39in arguing
34:40that England
34:41went for the
34:41ball there
34:42as hard as
34:43he in fact
34:43did go for it
34:44but the second
34:45tackle which
34:45Ron Harris
34:46makes on Ray
34:47Evans
34:47I see no
34:48justification
34:49in claiming
34:49anything else
34:50but it's the
34:51kind of tackle
34:52that we can do
34:52without on
34:53football fields
34:54just look now
34:55you'll see
34:56Harris in the
34:56dark shirt
34:57there
34:57win the ball
34:58and then chase
34:59in after it
35:00this is in
35:00slow motion
35:01and it's the
35:01tackle in its
35:02entirety
35:03now we'll look
35:04again and stop
35:05the action
35:06just at the
35:07point where
35:08Harris goes in
35:09for that ball
35:10Evans has gone
35:10for the ball
35:11Harris' foot is
35:12clearly over the
35:13top of the ball
35:14and I sat very
35:15close to that
35:16incident yesterday
35:17and from my seat
35:18I would have
35:19certainly taken
35:19Harris' name for
35:20that one tackle
35:21and most probably
35:22would have sent
35:22him off
35:23because that is a
35:23kind of dangerous
35:24tackle in football
35:25that I certainly
35:26for one don't want
35:26to see
35:27so much for
35:28those two
35:28incidents
35:28what about Spurs
35:29well for me
35:30it cleared up
35:31the mystery of
35:31Spurs yesterday
35:32because they played
35:32so well when we've
35:33gone to White Hart
35:34Lane I wondered
35:35why they couldn't
35:36win matches away
35:37the answer is very
35:38simple
35:38their players don't
35:39fight and tackle
35:40hard enough to
35:41gather points
35:42consistently away
35:43from their home
35:43ground
35:44I think it was
35:44typified most with
35:45an old player
35:46and a young player
35:47Alan Gilzean
35:48didn't seem to
35:48relish the game
35:49at all yesterday
35:50and in the end
35:50was pulled off
35:51and young Jimmy
35:52Neighbour there
35:53who is obviously
35:54still learning the game
35:55and plays so well
35:56in front of his
35:57own crowd
35:57showed that there's
35:58a lot more to
35:59learn about football
35:59for him yet
36:00before he can
36:01give a contribution
36:02both home and away
36:03so the Spurs mystery
36:04cleared up
36:05a wonderful afternoon's
36:06entertainment for all
36:07of us
36:07and a question mark
36:09over the future
36:09of both London clubs
36:11I suppose the real
36:12questions being
36:13are Chelsea coming up
36:14on the reels
36:14as David Webb suggests
36:15and what are Spurs
36:16going to do about
36:17that away form
36:18maybe those questions
36:18could be answered
36:19in those tremendous
36:20League Cup semi-finals
36:21that are coming up
36:22but now it's time
36:23for some more action
36:23and for that we go to
36:24Luton where it hasn't
36:25really been a very happy
36:26season for them
36:26I noticed that yesterday
36:28the Luton supporters club
36:29were handing out leaflets
36:30saying please support
36:31our team a little more
36:32well let's see how that
36:33worked out as we pick up
36:34Luton against Portsmouth
36:35commentator Gerry Harrison
36:37and Luton are in white
36:40there's Chris Nichol
36:41there's Chris Nichol
36:43conceding the first corner
36:44of the game
36:46in the second minute
36:48Owen Hand is at the back
36:50of the penalty area
36:51so is Jenkins
36:52Reynolds going to the near post
36:54the short one
36:55right across the face
36:56of the area
36:57Keane there
36:58to get it away
36:59and there it is
37:01from Reynolds
37:03and what an abject piece
37:06of luck
37:06for Luton
37:07Mike Keane's header
37:09hitting
37:11Reynolds here
37:12and leaving Tony Reid
37:14the goalkeeper
37:14absolutely helpless
37:21Busby a flick on
37:22straight to Yulden though
37:24to hand
37:26McCann
37:28Portsmouth seem to have
37:29just that little bit more time
37:30and just that little bit
37:31more accuracy
37:31and here's Ley going
37:32for a good ball
37:33from McCann
37:33over the far side now
37:35four Portsmouth players
37:36if he can get a cross in
37:37Jabril Cox the far man
37:38but he's got to get past
37:40Gibbons first
37:41and Gibbons gives it back
37:42to McCann anyhow
37:45good play by McCann
37:46can he try one
37:47Reynolds gonna shoot
37:49and so easy
37:51from that distance
37:54but made by McCann
37:56an error in the first place
37:58by Gibbons
38:00and half the Luton
38:02town defence
38:02standing still
38:03and Portsmouth
38:05go two up
38:10Owen Yulden
38:11flicking it past
38:12almost
38:13cause more trouble
38:14with it
38:14and now at last
38:16the roar of support
38:17from this Luton crowd
38:22another one
38:22number seven
38:25six minutes into the second half
38:26Gordon Heinsohn
38:28Keane coming to the near post
38:29out comes standing
38:30changes his mind
38:37Keane
38:37well that is the breakthrough
38:39and the man who thoroughly
38:42deserves it
38:46ten men
38:49now it's 2-1
38:51and Mike Keane
38:52with his second goal
38:54of the season
38:56puts Luton in
38:57with some sort of a chance
39:06well out by
39:07nickel under terrific pressure
39:08Keane thumbing it away
39:13very little width
39:15in the
39:16Luton attack
39:17of course
39:18they can't afford it
39:18really with
39:19only playing with only
39:20ten men
39:21but
39:21it means the flanks
39:22are
39:23quite useless
39:24very often
39:29quickly in there
39:30by nickel
39:31and now it's Luton
39:31breaking again
39:32here's Heinsohn
39:33can he turn one up
39:34and try one
39:35Heinsohn
39:35oh he's there
39:37and standing
39:38absolutely helpless
39:40with that one
39:41it was slow
39:41across his goal
39:42but give the credit
39:44to Gordon Heinsohn
39:45and the salute says
39:47that's his first goal
39:49for Luton
39:51and what a time
39:52look at it
39:54and there goes
39:55Gibbons
39:55he doesn't look like
39:56as if he's got an injury
39:57now
39:58it's always in the post
40:02and Gibbons
40:03the lip suddenly
40:04comes back
40:04here's Anderson
40:05Anderson going to get one
40:07oh he's there
40:14and with three minutes
40:16to go
40:17it's Anderson
40:25but most of the
40:27congratulations
40:28of the Luton players
40:30going over the other
40:31side of the field
40:32to
40:32Don Gibbons
40:37and
40:38Anderson himself
40:41congratulating
40:42Don Gibbons
40:43the injured man
40:44who made that break
40:47so we are
40:48a really tremendous
40:48comeback there
40:49by Luton Town
40:59time now
41:00for some more action
41:01and for that
41:01we go into the
41:02Midlands again
41:03where Nottingham Forest
41:03so struggling so hard
41:05near the bottom
41:05of the first division
41:06we're at home
41:07to Leeds United
41:07as surging towards
41:08the top
41:09the commentator
41:10at Nottingham
41:10was Hugh Johns
41:11and Nottingham Forest
41:12will be the team
41:12in the dark shirts
41:21that's Clark
41:22they're not inside
41:25taking it on
41:26Lorimer
41:26very nearly
41:27Forest breaking back
41:29Barry Lyons
41:31through the middle
41:32O'Kane
41:33oh too short
41:34O'Neal had gone
41:35too early
41:37Lorimer's onside
41:38taking on Hindley
41:40Little Chip
41:42and he's there
41:43oh what a magnificent
41:45little goal
41:46Peter Lorimer
41:49that was a piece
41:50of cool courage
41:51cool deliberate action
41:53by Peter Lorimer
41:54it's 1-0 Leeds
41:58and that was just about
41:59as most professional
42:00a goal
42:00as you can hope
42:01to see
42:01from Lorimer
42:03goalkeeper
42:03well off his line
42:04he started to blast it
42:05saw how far
42:06the goalkeeper
42:07was out
42:07and a delicate
42:08little chip
42:08right into
42:09the back of the net
42:101-0 Leeds
42:13Robertson
42:15O'Neal
42:16and the referee
42:17has given the advantage
42:20Cormac
42:21fine ball
42:22for
42:22Lyons
42:25Moore
42:27Moore again
42:29took it a fraction
42:30too far
42:31took it a fraction
42:32too far
42:33I'd love to be able
42:34to count up
42:34the number of passes
42:35that Forrest
42:36strung together
42:36seven or eight
42:38at least
42:38I would think
42:39keeping possession
42:40of the ball
42:42and the referee
42:43pointing
42:45the finger
42:47finger of referee
42:48Sid Caley
42:49who has he pointed at
42:50and he's reaching
42:51for his book
42:55reaching for his book
42:59and it's
43:00not Peter Hindley
43:02is it
43:03who is he going to
43:06Sammy Chapman
43:08the mystery solved
43:10at last
43:10well at least
43:12the mystery of who
43:12is getting booked
43:13has been solved
43:13Sammy Chapman it is
43:18obviously for something
43:19he must have said
43:20to the linesman
43:46Robinson getting a touch
43:48but only as far as
43:48Giles
43:49Mick Jones
43:50going against
43:51Hindley
43:53Billy O'Kane
43:54oh what a bad one
43:55Eddie Gray
43:57neat one
43:58for Clark
43:59there it is
44:002-0
44:05Eddie Gray
44:062-0
44:06and a very unhappy
44:07Jim Barron down there
44:08in a situation
44:09which Forrest
44:10created for themselves
44:13a terrible move
44:14down the
44:14left side
44:16the left flank
44:17of the Leeds front line
44:18Gray the ball inside
44:19Clark
44:20sniffer Clark
44:21nipping in
44:22the shot
44:22through a Forrester
44:23legs into the net
44:23and that's how it
44:25finished
44:252-0 to Leeds United
44:26the pictures there
44:27came from ATV
44:28and they've at least
44:28helped us a little bit
44:29in helping to solve
44:30the mystery
44:31of the sending off
44:32of Chapman of
44:32Nottingham Forest
44:33they tell us
44:33it was for an
44:34infringement by Chapman
44:35on the Leeds United
44:36striker Mick Jones
44:37well that's it
44:38well that's it from today
44:38hope very much
44:39you've enjoyed it
44:39we leave you of course
44:40with the goal that set
44:41Chelsea swinging yesterday
44:42but it really was an
44:43afternoon of great emotion
44:44and after you've seen
44:45the goal
44:46let's have a look at
44:46some of the characters
44:47who were left a little
44:48frustrated on the
44:49sidelines at
44:50Stamford Bridge
45:01Dempsey
45:02Hudson
45:03good play by Chelsea
45:05Dempsey to Osgood
45:08falling for Hudson
45:10swept nicely there
45:11for Kemba
45:13a little fortunate
45:14it hit him on the back
45:17aimed again
45:18there a chance for Cook
45:20and a goal
45:51there a chance for you
45:59you
