00:00I'll tell you what else is going down in Major League Baseball.
00:02That's somebody's batting average.
00:03That's somebody's power stroke.
00:05And quite frankly, Craig, I can't figure it out.
00:07The Toronto Blue Jays hit a 20 and 25 right now, under 500 and underperforming.
00:12How about Vladimir Guerrero Jr.?
00:14He's talking about his slump.
00:15And I quote, I'm just looking to hit one ball very hard,
00:18and it'll stay in my head and in my mind.
00:20I know things are going to change.
00:21May from Vladdy, a 118 batting average, not a single extra base.
00:27Craig, it's not May 4th right now.
00:28It is May 17th.
00:30Vladdy doesn't have an extra base hit in the month of May?
00:33What's going on?
00:35Yeah, well, look, I think there's two things that can be true.
00:38Let's start with the first.
00:40The first is that he was one of the most dominant players in last year's postseason.
00:44And really, I think finally, over the course of his career,
00:47absolutely lived up to the billing of being one of the best players in baseball.
00:52But we can also say, I think personally, that the player is a little overrated.
00:56I think that's fair to say, too.
00:58I think his popularity is obviously due to his play,
01:01but also due to the fact his father was a Hall of Famer.
01:04He's still a really good player that, if you look at the back of the baseball card,
01:09you don't see MVP-type seasons.
01:11You see really good-to-great-type seasons.
01:14And so this isn't coming as a big surprise.
01:16Now, when the moment was biggest, he came up the biggest.
01:19And so we have to acknowledge that, because without him,
01:21the Blue Jays do not get to the World Series last year.
01:24But what's funny to me is, in the end, Donnie,
01:27Guerrero's numbers are going to be 20-25 home runs.
01:30They're going to be 80-85 runs driven in.
01:32And this is kind of who he is.
01:34You know, he is not the Hall of Famer that his dad was.
01:36It doesn't make him a bad player by any means.
01:40But I do think he tends to be, at least for me,
01:43one of the more talked-about and overrated players for a player that's just, you know, really good.
01:48That's it.
01:49Sometimes, Craig, you get those elevation of numbers early on in your career, and you're right.
01:532021, have a 48 home runs, 111 RBI.
01:57And that was it.
01:57A 311 batting average, Craig, and a 6.3 war for that season.
02:01So you start there, and you're young, saying, well, the sky's the limit.
02:04Is this guy the next Albert Pauls?
02:06We're going to get 40 to 50 home runs every year for the next 15 years.
02:09And it hasn't happened.
02:1032 home runs, 26 home runs, 30 home runs.
02:12And last year, Craig, a 292 batting average, which we'll take,
02:15but the power number is 23 home runs, and the RBI at 84.
02:18And the power stroke, just not here.
02:20And even for myself, it's one of those where you play in the American League East.
02:23And even in Toronto, as we know, two years ago, making the adjustments to the ballpark,
02:27making it smaller, hitting at Yankee Stadium.
02:29You're hitting at Fenway Park.
02:30You're hitting in Baltimore and outside of Tampa.
02:32All of those are really good environments.
02:34I looked at Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
02:35I don't want to say a bounce-back season is the wrong thing,
02:37but I expected the elevation of numbers.
02:40And you might say slow start coming off, but, Craig, this isn't a slow start.
02:44This is disastrous for Vladi.
02:46No, and he's been a second-half kind of guy, so that's going to happen in the second half.
02:51And he'll end up having a really good season.
02:53But to your point, having that one great year that he had in 2021,
02:57I just remember how everyone was talking about,
02:59wow, this is a bona fide future Hall of Famer.
03:01It doesn't matter what position he plays.
03:03And now, I'm just not so sure.
03:06But, again, it takes nothing away from the player as an individual.
03:09It's not his fault his last name is Guerrero.
03:12We had high expectations to begin with.
03:13He met them, but, unfortunately, since then,
03:16he's still been a really good player participating in home run derbies and the like.
03:20But I just don't think a superstar-type guy.
