00:00OK, lads, keep your heads out, keep your punches open, keep it clean.
00:02Bear my commands at all times and protect yourself at all times.
00:05You've had your instructions in the changing room, you know what I expect.
00:08Touch gloves, come out, box on the bell. Good luck.
00:11Cracking domestic duel in Doncaster,
00:14hitting two young, undefeated 9-stone-9 fighters together.
00:2023 victories between them.
00:22Louis O'Doherty, the British champion,
00:25and Ahmed Hatim, the challenger,
00:27add the Commonwealth belt to the mix
00:30and we should have a really good match-up for you
00:33live on the Global Home of Boxing, DAZN.
00:38Every week, fights after fights that keep delivering.
00:45Seconds out.
00:46And Barrett's just another great match-up.
00:48And he's taken his place at ringside alongside George Warren.
00:52We've got it all on DAZN.
00:53Yeah, another 11-0, 12-0,
00:55so it's easy to say evenly matched.
00:57But I just think where they're at, ability-wise,
01:00I think they're evenly matched as well.
01:02They've got their own skills,
01:03but I think they're around about the same level,
01:04which will make this a really good and intriguing fight.
01:08Just a slip there from Hatim.
01:10The canvas, obviously, it's been raining heavily
01:13during the afternoon and early evening.
01:16It is undercover,
01:18but even we're getting wet,
01:20so just got to be careful that the wind doesn't pick up
01:24because the fighter's boots,
01:26they've got to have balance and stability in there.
01:29Well, I was intrigued to see who would take centre ring early on
01:33and O'Doherty is that man.
01:35He landed a lovely left to the body a moment ago.
01:37He just went a little wide Hatim with his shot.
01:40He just slipped on the outside, slipping again.
01:42Yeah, this is a problem.
01:44And the ring's coming away here, aren't we?
01:46It's right by us.
01:46And the ring is...
01:48The wind is coming this way.
01:49It is off my head, actually.
01:51Yeah, but with new boots,
01:53you can scorch them to get a better grip.
01:55Not a lot you can do.
01:55Mike Goodall, who looks after the rings,
01:57is right by us.
01:58Maybe he's going to try and get a cloth in there
02:01or something in between rounds,
02:02but unfortunately, it's the elements in the air,
02:06and they've just got to get on with it,
02:07but it's difficult for Hatim early here.
02:09Good jab from O'Doherty,
02:11the champion who's looking to continue this momentum.
02:14That's a good right hand there from Hatim there.
02:17Finty with the jab to the body,
02:19through the right hand over the top.
02:20But already early on,
02:21you can see Hatim's going to need
02:23a better, stronger jab to keep O'Doherty away.
02:25Otherwise, he's going to have to fight
02:26to be out of trouble.
02:27He's going to have to be more cute
02:28with those hooks as well,
02:29just telegraphing those heavy shots.
02:31I don't mind that intent,
02:32but I think it's O'Doherty.
02:34He's just keeping it nice and compact,
02:36and he's keeping the shots nice and short,
02:38straight through the middle of those wide hooks.
02:41It's a good right hand on the middle there from O'Doherty,
02:43who still is strong,
02:44and he's walking him down,
02:45and it's good work,
02:46but he still needs to move his head a little bit more.
02:49And that would be the fight he had last time against Blackin,
02:52really oozing in confidence now,
02:55real self-belief,
02:56and he's demonstrating that early on in this contest.
03:28We've seen him a lot around the shows,
03:30a confidence,
03:31because O'Doherty has got momentum.
03:33Just need, again,
03:35punch it from range quite well,
03:36Hattim,
03:36he can do that,
03:37but the jab's got to be stronger.
03:39I mean,
03:40that's everything from early stages here.
03:42Yeah,
03:42just hard for him to that lead,
03:43and he's got to commit to the jab.
03:46It is a good weapon
03:47if he uses it properly.
03:50O'Doherty,
03:50O'Doherty looking at the boss,
03:51centering,
03:52and slipping and sliding Hattim.
03:58How do you feel?
04:00Right,
04:00let's keep on left.
04:01Let's settle it down a bit now,
04:03you got it.
04:03Just settle it down,
04:05relax a bit more,
04:06don't rush it,
04:06you don't need to hurry it.
04:08Okay,
04:08get that left working nice and solid all the time.
04:11Mix it up a little bit.
04:13That right hand at the end,
04:14start to use that left hand a bit more as well.
04:16All right,
04:17don't walk into the stuff,
04:19you don't need to.
04:20Okay,
04:20you don't need to walk in.
04:22Okay,
04:23keep him.
04:28When you get him close,
04:29bang,
04:30all right?
04:31He's riding that left hand,
04:33he's way out of control,
04:34bang,
04:34right hand out of the top.
04:35All right,
04:35but just sit there with him.
04:37Don't rush it,
04:38you don't need to rush him.
04:39Corners,
04:3910 seconds.
04:41Make him do things he don't want to do.
04:42Eddie Hearn and George Warren.
04:46Seconds out.
04:46Come there,
04:47we're absolutely soaking.
04:49And we're in the front row,
04:51the other side.
04:53Second round here,
04:54British and Commonwealth,
04:55lightweight championships on the line.
04:57The 25-year-old from Braintree,
04:59Louis O'Doherty,
05:00he was a tip-top gymnast
05:02in his early years,
05:04but he's become a good fighter.
05:06He's unbeaten in 11.
05:08Gordon Charles within his corner,
05:10as ever.
05:12Xavier Miller,
05:13I was chatted to earlier,
05:14in the red corner,
05:15with his charge,
05:16Ahmed Hatem,
05:17looking for the uppercut here,
05:19in the second round.
05:20Do you feel Hatem needs
05:21some early success here,
05:23to try and,
05:24sort of,
05:25stop O'Doherty,
05:26just pressing forward,
05:27and getting comfortable?
05:28Yeah,
05:29and he's opting to get a bit closer now,
05:32to O'Doherty,
05:33is Hatem,
05:33to creep forward a little bit more.
05:35I don't mind that,
05:36if I'm honest,
05:37because he was,
05:39wasn't really committing to those,
05:41jabs we've already touched on,
05:42and it's interesting,
05:43you mentioned,
05:44Xavier Miller there,
05:45was obviously,
05:46in the corner,
05:47for Yusuf Qomari,
05:48when he lost to O'Doherty,
05:50so he knows,
05:51all about this opponent,
05:52in front of Hatem.
05:55Hatem wants to become,
05:57the first world champion,
05:58from Sudan,
05:59born there,
06:00back down to Ladbrook Grove,
06:02in West London,
06:02he's a character,
06:04and he's,
06:05gonna take this,
06:06he's gonna really,
06:07give it everything,
06:09to go home as a champion,
06:11and we've seen,
06:12some fantastic stories,
06:13Bilal Fawaz,
06:15coming through,
06:15and look at what he's doing,
06:17with his life.
06:17Good right hand there,
06:18for Hatem,
06:19he just needs to,
06:19up the work rate,
06:20I think what Dan is saying,
06:21right,
06:21you know,
06:22it wasn't working,
06:22moving round,
06:23so he's trying to walk,
06:25O'Doherty down,
06:25something that he wouldn't,
06:26really expect to happen,
06:28it needs to be sharp,
06:29a bit like that,
06:29but consistent with up work.
06:31It's good that he's,
06:31adapted early as well,
06:33you know,
06:33it's not taking him round,
06:34to realise,
06:35that keeping it long,
06:36wasn't really,
06:37the key to success,
06:39getting close,
06:40certainly,
06:40seems as if it is.
06:42Good defence from Hatem,
06:43who's tall,
06:45and Ron Keane,
06:46he just asked him,
06:47to keep the punches up,
06:48but he's keeping himself,
06:50together here,
06:50in a nice right hand,
06:52and this is better,
06:53from the challenger,
06:54in the second round.
06:55He just,
06:56every now and again,
06:57O'Doherty,
06:57I've looked at fights,
06:59of his in the past,
07:00and he does have a,
07:01a tendency,
07:02to lean back,
07:03under pressure,
07:04the chin comes a little higher,
07:06just naturally,
07:07you drop the hands,
07:09you've got to watch that,
07:10seen a couple of nice,
07:11straight shots from Hatem,
07:12haven't we?
07:13And you can get away,
07:13with it when you're,
07:14when you're coming forward,
07:15when you're being pushed back,
07:17it makes you vulnerable,
07:18doesn't it,
07:18you're more off balance.
07:20You can see the,
07:22green t-shirts,
07:23of the fans,
07:25of O'Doherty,
07:27who've come up,
07:27from Essex,
07:30good shot again,
07:31from Hatem,
07:32in the corner like that,
07:33and I liked his quality,
07:34in the second round.
07:37That was a nice short,
07:38right uppercuts though,
07:39from O'Doherty,
07:41in the middle,
07:41but again,
07:42look at this intent,
07:43really changed,
07:44the pattern of this fight,
07:46hasn't it?
07:46I know it's early,
07:47but still,
07:47he's just,
07:48getting on the front foot,
07:49being a bit more aggressive,
07:50good round.
07:50O'Doherty waking up,
07:51at the end of the second,
07:52but very interesting,
07:54fight developing.
07:59I want you to pick it up,
08:00a bit better,
08:01but it's got to be,
08:02more than one,
08:03or two punches,
08:04you got me?
08:05It's got to be more than one,
08:06you're finally jabbed,
08:07you're clearly away,
08:08but every now and again,
08:09I want that big,
08:10solid jab,
08:11alright?
08:12What do you think?
08:13Is he bothering you at all?
08:15Right,
08:16when he comes down,
08:17that big foot,
08:17where on the side,
08:18you can see it,
08:19but,
08:22that's a lovely right hand there,
08:24from Hattin there,
08:24just decided,
08:25to change the pattern,
08:26of the fight,
08:26early,
08:27it's very,
08:27very difficult to do that,
08:28especially when you,
08:29you think you're the taller,
08:30range of fighting,
08:31you have to be,
08:32working behind the jab,
08:33but the jab wasn't strong enough,
08:34and maybe they,
08:34saw that in the corner,
08:36so he pushed,
08:37O'Doherty back,
08:38and increased,
08:39the work,
08:39in the last stages.
08:41You know,
08:41like I was mentioning,
08:42the confidence of this man here,
08:44you know,
08:44winning the title,
08:45and looking very good,
08:45in doing so,
08:47when you come into a fight,
08:48and you dominate,
08:49I would say,
08:50he won the first round,
08:52comfortably,
08:52to get pinned back,
08:53the way he did,
08:54in that second round,
08:55was impressive,
08:55from Hattin.
08:57Both of them coming up,
08:58guns blazing,
08:59at the start of the third round,
09:01we felt it might,
09:02be a terrific matchup,
09:04this,
09:05battle of the young,
09:06unbeaten,
09:07British championship,
09:09the defense of,
09:10O'Doherty,
09:11a bit of a corner,
09:12off ground as well,
09:13just a slip there,
09:14there was a,
09:14a shot,
09:15but,
09:15yeah,
09:16it's difficult,
09:16with these conditions,
09:17and the ring canvas,
09:19we saw Hattin,
09:21slipping,
09:21in the early part,
09:23of the first round,
09:24but he's,
09:24come back,
09:25and,
09:26I'll tell you what,
09:26this is going to be,
09:27very intriguing.
09:28Yeah,
09:28really good shot there,
09:30he threw a nice jab,
09:30to the body,
09:31Hattin,
09:31in front of the right hand,
09:32over the top,
09:33I've seen that,
09:33in the past from him,
09:34he changes the levels well.
09:36It's been a good response,
09:37here though,
09:38from O'Doherty,
09:38I think,
09:39they've come up,
09:39with a bit more intent,
09:41just a little bit,
09:42I think that's,
09:43the secret here for O'Doherty,
09:44just keep busy.
09:45Yeah,
09:46chipping away,
09:47there isn't he,
09:47O'Doherty,
09:48they're asking him,
09:49in the corner,
09:50whether,
09:51Hattin was bothering him,
09:52anyway,
09:53this is better,
09:53from Louie O'Doherty,
09:55in the third round,
09:56and look at that,
09:56punches landed.
09:58Because Hattin,
09:59he covers up well,
10:00Hattin,
10:01sometimes with someone,
10:01who covers up well,
10:03he can throw back in time,
10:04so you can,
10:04you can,
10:04you can,
10:05and over the barrage of shots.
10:07A lot of body shots,
10:08landing there,
10:09from Hattin,
10:10jabs,
10:11you know,
10:11good variations,
10:12to the body,
10:12that was a little low,
10:14that left of the body,
10:15but it's the right shot,
10:16oh,
10:17then going back upstairs.
10:18A lot of success,
10:19with that loop,
10:19in the right hand,
10:20doesn't he?
10:21And again,
10:21that might be the thing,
10:22when O'Doherty just leaning back,
10:23and not quite standing up tall,
10:24like you said that,
10:25and we're still leaning back.
10:27Hattin is four years older,
10:29he's had more fights,
10:30than O'Doherty,
10:31but not quite the maturity,
10:33as a pro,
10:35it is a step up for him,
10:37and O'Doherty,
10:38just trying to punish him,
10:39with that orthodox jab,
10:41and then,
10:41quick one-two.
10:42Yeah,
10:43keep it simple,
10:44I think that jab,
10:45worked well there,
10:46didn't it?
10:47That four,
10:47unanswered jabs,
10:48from O'Doherty,
10:50unorthodox Hattin as well,
10:51he does a couple of,
10:52things you would never teach,
10:54he sort of steps forward,
10:55he's almost square on,
10:56and he throws a left hook,
10:57but seems to find,
10:59the range of those hooks.
11:00But I think,
11:01O'Doherty's rhythms,
11:02are good as well,
11:03I mean,
11:03he looks conventional,
11:04but I think his rhythms,
11:05are a little awkward,
11:05and he's,
11:06the body shot there,
11:07from Hattin.
11:07Yeah,
11:08we saw on the statistics,
11:10the body shots,
11:10from Hattin have been good,
11:12nice left hand as well,
11:14he's had his success,
11:15in the third,
11:16it's been a better session,
11:17for O'Doherty,
11:19it's swinging this way,
11:20and that,
11:21and it's really good action,
11:22here,
11:23at the Echo Power Stadium,
11:24in Yorkshire.
11:25Yeah,
11:25this is brilliant,
11:26this is the fight,
11:27I thought we might see,
11:28really mixing fire with fire,
11:31ebbing and flowing,
11:32really,
11:33really interesting,
11:34grueling contest,
11:35only in the third round.
11:36Good right hand from Hattin,
11:38big broad shoulders as well,
11:40not seen as a puncher,
11:42through his pro career so far,
11:44but dishing it out here,
11:46in a really good round of boxing.
11:54Let's get backstage,
11:55Ariana's got Michael Gomez Jr.
12:00It's been a great day,
12:01for your football team today,
12:02Man City just winning,
12:03how are you looking to make this,
12:04an even better day for yourself?
12:06It's all about me today,
12:07Man City is Man City,
12:08today's about me.
12:09Very nice,
12:10very nice,
12:10big night for you,
12:11stadium here,
12:12what is the feeling,
12:13as you head into the fight?
12:15Nothing to lose,
12:16nothing to lose,
12:16I'm the English champion,
12:17he's the guy,
12:18he's the European champion,
12:19I'm just there to have fun,
12:20and cause carnage,
12:21and just be a wrecking machine,
12:22and if he ain't as good,
12:23as what he thinks he is,
12:24he's in for the horriblest night,
12:25of his life.
12:26This is his first time,
12:27up at 135,
12:28do you think that has any impact?
12:30I'll let you know,
12:30about 10 seconds in,
12:31when he grabs over the first time,
12:32and I rag him like a doll.
12:33Good luck.
12:35What a character,
12:37I mean,
12:38Junior,
12:38is loading up the scene,
12:41Senior,
12:41there was no one quite like Michael Gomez,
12:44the original,
12:44was there?
12:46Second round,
12:48against Jordan Flynn,
12:49looked really,
12:49really good,
12:50broke Flynn's jaw.
12:51He looked very good,
12:52Lee McGregor's a real talent,
12:54but I saw him backstage,
12:55and I wondered whether,
12:56he was big enough,
12:57I think that could be a problem,
12:59we'll see,
13:00it's a good match on paper,
13:01as is this,
13:02Odoherty in the black trunks,
13:04with the white boots,
13:05the white and black boots,
13:07that were slipping in the,
13:08early stances of this,
13:11Hatim with the grey,
13:13and the white tassels,
13:14in this red corner,
13:15he's putting in a really good effort,
13:17so far,
13:18may not be ahead on the cards,
13:20but he's very competitive,
13:24yeah,
13:24really good fight,
13:26yeah,
13:26look at that,
13:27Cole,
13:28Odoherty,
13:29two rounds,
13:30so one up,
13:31yeah,
13:31that's how I've got it,
13:32could be the other way,
13:33though,
13:33I thought,
13:34that last round,
13:35I think,
13:35Odoherty was winning the round,
13:37like,
13:37not comfortable,
13:38but he was doing the nap,
13:39and I,
13:40oh,
13:40good shot,
13:41Hattim finished really strong,
13:43with more quality,
13:44in his work,
13:45are you disagreeing,
13:46with Cole,
13:47he's the only person,
13:48who's smaller than the team,
13:49so yes,
13:51he could have just nicked it,
13:52right at the end there,
13:53Hattim,
13:54body shot from Odoherty,
13:57split opinion,
13:58at ringside,
13:59which is always good,
14:02I wonder how you're seeing,
14:03at home,
14:03hope you're enjoying it,
14:04though,
14:04fourth round of 12,
14:06British and Commonwealth,
14:07belts on the line,
14:08in the always exciting,
14:10lightweight division,
14:11this is what you mentioned,
14:12when you started the first round,
14:13about Odoherty leaning back,
14:16he switches off a little bit,
14:17no one against you,
14:17do some good work,
14:18and stand there,
14:19and have to take a shot,
14:20that was better there,
14:22sorry Adam,
14:23when he left back there,
14:23which I don't like to see anyway,
14:25at least he kept his right hand,
14:26tucked by his chin,
14:27because that left,
14:28from Hattim,
14:29has found a home,
14:31few times already,
14:32in this contest,
14:33I noticed that,
14:34Barry of Odoherty too,
14:35just slightly switching off,
14:38in patches,
14:39and then he comes in,
14:40with good combinations,
14:41got a lovely jab,
14:42but got to sustain it here,
14:45hasn't he?
14:45For the right hand,
14:46then you'll do some good work,
14:47and then you switch up,
14:47you got caught,
14:48with a big right hand,
14:49and in the gate,
14:49you work,
14:50and then it makes,
14:51the rounds more difficult,
14:52to score,
14:52or you lose the round.
14:54Some good variation there,
14:55two double left hooks,
14:57from Odoherty,
14:57then he went over,
14:58the top of the right hand,
15:00yeah it's good work,
15:01that wasn't it,
15:02from the British champion,
15:03so what though,
15:04Hattim's making him,
15:05work hard isn't he?
15:07He's right,
15:08over looking him,
15:09isn't he?
15:10The height difference,
15:11very apparent,
15:13you wonder if,
15:14Odoherty can work,
15:14the body more,
15:15you saw Hattim,
15:16throwing a lot of body shots early,
15:18good work from Odoherty,
15:20just some damage,
15:21around the forehead,
15:22of Hattim,
15:22but it's not quenching,
15:23his thirst,
15:24look at this,
15:25yeah he does,
15:26sink him into the body,
15:27really well doesn't he?
15:29doesn't,
15:30like the Alpacast,
15:31doesn't telegraph,
15:31he just sort of dips down,
15:33and stabs him into the body,
15:35with both hands as well,
15:37good though,
15:37from the door with here,
15:38when he's making him,
15:39he's making him pay,
15:40with that right hand,
15:41good round this,
15:42for Louis Odoherty,
15:43but it's a hard fight,
15:45a grueling one already,
15:46and we've only had,
15:47a third of it,
15:48lovely work,
15:49from the British champion,
15:51as the fourth bowels,
15:52tolls,
15:58you're breaking it,
15:59right,
16:00you're waiting too long,
16:01for the last 10 seconds,
16:02you're picking him off,
16:03nothing wrong with that,
16:04but every now and again,
16:05sustain the attack,
16:06and push him back,
16:07Amit,
16:08you're going to get yourself,
16:09in problem,
16:09on the score party,
16:10if you go outside,
16:10that last round,
16:11you hear me,
16:12that's not how you fight,
16:14this guy,
16:14you understand,
16:18you're the taller,
16:20longer fighter,
16:21use your fence,
16:22and use your jab,
16:24and then,
16:24halfway through the round,
16:25then we pick up,
16:26and start breaking down,
16:26to the body again,
16:27you're going out there,
16:28trying to train with him,
16:29train with him,
16:29he's the short fighter,
16:30why are you doing everything,
16:31in there,
16:31don't do that,
16:32and you keep reaching,
16:33and launching for his head,
16:34he's avoiding your shots,
16:35easily,
16:36just work your way in,
16:37and stab him here,
16:38when you get in close,
16:39Honours,
16:3910 seconds,
16:40I really like,
16:41Xavier Miller,
16:42I think he's a very,
16:43underrated trainer,
16:44and that was some,
16:45excellent advice,
16:46and it's exactly,
16:47what's happening,
16:48he's just not really,
16:50using that height,
16:50and reach to full,
16:52extent,
16:52he's in this fight,
16:53he's probably gone around,
16:55maybe even two,
16:55who knows,
16:56but,
16:56he should be listening to that,
16:58I do think,
16:59he could use his advantages,
17:00a little bit more,
17:01that jab is better,
17:02a bit sharper,
17:03but he is having success,
17:05inside of all say,
17:06you know,
17:06he is working the body well,
17:07going back upstairs,
17:08with the hooks,
17:09this is good from O'Doherty,
17:10he's adapting now,
17:12isn't he,
17:12he's,
17:13he's,
17:14he's going to fire back,
17:15and he's got more,
17:17more energy,
17:18more work,
17:19more combinations,
17:20more punches with it,
17:21absolutely,
17:22the persistence of,
17:23O'Doherty just,
17:24switches southpaw,
17:26and he broke through,
17:27back in,
17:28didn't he,
17:28in Glasgow,
17:29also the English champion,
17:30before that,
17:31he's had a,
17:32purple patch,
17:33over the last,
17:3312 to 18 months,
17:35Louis O'Doherty's young,
17:37and he doesn't want,
17:38it ending here,
17:39he's got a great fan base,
17:41a great altitude,
17:42and he's on top,
17:44I'll tell you what,
17:44the first minute,
17:45of this fifth round,
17:46he's been defensively,
17:47a lot more sound,
17:48look at that,
17:49tucking up nicely,
17:50bobbing and weaving,
17:51really well,
17:52again,
17:53look at the body punches now,
17:54catching up,
17:56O'Doherty,
17:56oh he's taken over,
17:57sorry,
17:57a hundred more,
17:59total punches that is,
18:00sorry,
18:02nice,
18:03nice little advocate there,
18:04from Hatim,
18:05yep,
18:05he picks shots well,
18:06doesn't he,
18:07I just wonder if this is,
18:09a fight too early,
18:11for Hatim,
18:11it could be,
18:12a crowning night,
18:14they've rolled the dice,
18:15but,
18:16Louis O'Doherty,
18:17is a man in form,
18:18and with momentum,
18:19and he just looks a bit more,
18:20mature in there,
18:21to me as a pro,
18:22but,
18:22but,
18:23I think O'Doherty,
18:24kind of new to this level,
18:25as well,
18:25I don't think it was,
18:26a step too fast,
18:27for Hatim,
18:28he was more or less,
18:29a wrong that sort of,
18:30level anyway,
18:31just below British level,
18:32so he said step up,
18:34but against a guy,
18:34who's only just stepped up also,
18:35but it could be the making,
18:37of him too Barry,
18:37even in defeat,
18:38yes,
18:39of course,
18:39you know,
18:40you've got to take these fights,
18:41when you're fighting for titles,
18:42it should be like this,
18:43the jeopardy is real,
18:45yeah,
18:45O'Doherty is fighting,
18:46his fight now,
18:47but Hatim is also,
18:49fighting O'Doherty's fight,
18:50that's playing into his hands,
18:52the champion's hands,
18:53exactly what his corner,
18:54we're telling him,
18:55he's got a bit close,
18:56he's trying to get out,
18:57and use that jab,
18:58and I think he,
18:58wants to engage,
19:00and maybe he's feeling,
19:01the strength of,
19:02Louis O'Doherty,
19:03in close,
19:04right hand was nice,
19:06once in a while,
19:06he just springs,
19:08a more eye-catching shot,
19:09but O'Doherty chips away,
19:11I don't know if he knows,
19:13how good his footwork is,
19:15Hatim,
19:15every now and again,
19:16he'll spin off,
19:17and there's an opportunity,
19:18to throw a shot,
19:19but he doesn't,
19:20I don't know if he understands,
19:21that he's got himself,
19:22in that good position,
19:23what he does,
19:23but he's finished,
19:24trying to finish the round stroke,
19:25yeah,
19:25oh good right hand,
19:27yeah lovely work,
19:29and Hatim coming in again,
19:30with a body shot,
19:32O'Doherty,
19:33keeps his shape,
19:34Hatim remember,
19:36a part of the Dale Youth Club,
19:39likes of James DeGale,
19:41George Groves,
19:41so many have come through,
19:43that fantastic institution,
19:45in West London,
19:46Amiga,
19:47I'll tell you all,
19:48yeah,
19:49you fought a Dale Youth boy,
19:50you know it was going,
19:51to be a tough night,
19:56good fight though,
19:57isn't it,
19:58yeah it's a really good fight,
19:59and I think,
19:59I think,
20:00in that last round,
20:01he was really good,
20:02there at O'Doherty,
20:02really busy,
20:05you need to pick it up again,
20:06on him now,
20:07and see if you're fucking,
20:08yeah,
20:09just,
20:10you know,
20:11grabbing hold of this,
20:12and making it his fight,
20:14but Hatim,
20:14every now and again,
20:15he'll just,
20:15fire in an awkward,
20:17right hand,
20:18or a left hook,
20:19and stabbed downstairs,
20:21to the body,
20:21I just think,
20:22he's taking his foot,
20:23off the gas,
20:23ever so slightly,
20:24and that is,
20:25a prime example Barry,
20:26of what we're saying,
20:27leaning back,
20:27and dropping that right hand,
20:29yeah it really is,
20:29but I think I agree with that,
20:30Hatim's doing some good work,
20:32but they're fleeting moments,
20:33aren't they,
20:33no consistency,
20:34and that's why,
20:35Doherty for me,
20:36won that round quite well,
20:37and if that's the start,
20:39if he can build on that,
20:40he might get a bit of a lead here,
20:42and that's what he did,
20:42against Clackett,
20:43he built on it,
20:44didn't he,
20:46sustained steady,
20:47round job,
20:49and he,
20:50really caught our eyes,
20:51in Glasgow,
20:52his brother was,
20:53shouting out instructions,
20:55at ringside,
20:56they live and breathe it,
20:57and remember what he said,
20:59to Arianna earlier,
21:00he's got three under two,
21:02at home,
21:02so he's used to,
21:04lively moments,
21:04in his life,
21:05a manhouse,
21:06which the boxing ring,
21:08usually is,
21:10what can Hatim do here,
21:12he's had success,
21:14it's important for Hatim here,
21:16to try and win this round,
21:17to really make an effort,
21:19to be consistent,
21:19throughout the three minutes here,
21:21and that'll just show Doherty there,
21:23that you can build momentum at all,
21:25and that can affect you mentally at times.
21:27I think they've both got double up their attacks,
21:29let their hands go and go again,
21:31a sort of you go,
21:31I go.
21:37Battle of the Jax,
21:39in this sixth round.
21:46fitness about Doherty,
21:47and the flexibility,
21:49from being a gymnast,
21:52I tell you what being a gymnast does,
21:54I tell everyone from a young age,
21:55it gives you that core strength,
21:57to deal with any sport,
21:58it's a really important thing to do,
22:00I feel.
22:01They always have good base,
22:03good footwork,
22:04solid base to work from.
22:06Joe Frazier,
22:06one of our best gymnasts,
22:07a massive boxing fan,
22:09he'll be watching this somewhere,
22:10good body shot from,
22:12Odoherty.
22:16Nice one too that,
22:17just more compact,
22:18more accurate,
22:19the shots Odoherty.
22:22Body shot again,
22:24Odoherty going downstairs,
22:26and Hattim had success there earlier,
22:28but you just feel the,
22:30fluency and the power,
22:32for the most is with Odoherty,
22:34but once in a while,
22:35he just springs something at him.
22:37Yeah, he did some good work here,
22:39and consistently through all the rounds,
22:40he's done good work.
22:41It just feels whether it's fast or slow,
22:44it's at Odoherty's pace.
22:46Yeah.
22:46That's what it feels like,
22:47I don't know why that is.
22:48I just,
22:48I feel there was a bit more intent,
22:49in the second round from Hattim,
22:51you know,
22:51he was busy,
22:52he was aggressive,
22:53he adapted,
22:54didn't he,
22:54after that first round,
22:55but he's not in control,
22:58of the pace here,
22:59and that's what Odoherty's done really well,
23:00he's just busted,
23:02he's just a busy-up.
23:03That was better when Hattim found room,
23:05with his jab,
23:06and that advice a couple of rounds ago,
23:09from Xavier Miller,
23:10utilise your reach,
23:13your physical weapons.
23:15Body shots from Hattim,
23:17good end to the sixth,
23:19from the challenger.
23:20Isn't he always finished stronger?
23:22I think he can throw a jab,
23:23Hattim,
23:23take a little step back,
23:24and try and walk Odoherty,
23:26either onto a one-two,
23:27or right hand.
23:27He just did what you said Dan,
23:29and the good footwork,
23:30he didn't realise it.
23:31He's not going off of it,
23:32does he?
23:36Howard Foster's just in front of us,
23:37one of the judges,
23:39to know they wonder,
23:40how they're seeing things,
23:41at the halfway point,
23:4210 seconds left,
23:43of what's been a very watchable,
23:45engaging battle,
23:46for the British and Commonwealth,
23:48lightweight titles,
23:49and look at the ends,
23:50of the first six.
23:59Well,
24:00there we go,
24:01when you're Dave Allen,
24:02you pick up,
24:04celebrity,
24:05sporting mates,
24:06wherever you go.
24:08Luke Littler,
24:09he was there last week,
24:10wasn't he?
24:11He loves his boxing.
24:19I was with Barry Hearn,
24:21last night,
24:22talking about the success,
24:23of Matchroom,
24:24and he said,
24:24once in a while,
24:25a bit of stardust,
24:26just walks in,
24:27and Luke Littler,
24:28was that one,
24:29a couple of years ago.
24:30They had that,
24:31when I signed for Matchroom.
24:33Didn't they?
24:34I was about to say that,
24:35dazzling Darren.
24:36Very dazzling,
24:37my life.
24:39Corners,
24:3910 seconds,
24:40Darren Barker,
24:42former world champion,
24:44and one of the,
24:45key players,
24:47key fighters,
24:48who started the Matchroom story,
24:50in that second stanza,
24:51with Eddie.
24:52He was all mean.
24:53I don't know about all you,
24:54he was just there.
24:55We'll ask Eddie,
24:56over the other side,
24:56of the ropes,
24:57a little bit later on,
24:58Eddie looking cool,
24:59and calm,
25:00ahead of Dave Allen's,
25:01big night tonight.
25:03This is how Carl,
25:04sees it.
25:05I think that's about right,
25:06Louis O'Doherty,
25:07in a commanding lead,
25:09but doesn't really tell the story.
25:11No, it doesn't.
25:12I think it does tell the story,
25:14because,
25:14I mean,
25:14I know you're saying,
25:15Hatim is competitive,
25:16in all the rounds,
25:18but the busier fighter,
25:19through most of them,
25:20I got it around closer,
25:21but,
25:22I mean,
25:22there is,
25:23he is winning the fight,
25:24he'll go with it,
25:25and it is on,
25:26I would say,
25:27work,
25:27weight and effort.
25:27But what I mean,
25:28not telling the story,
25:29is that the Hatim,
25:30has really had,
25:31some good moments,
25:32in the fight,
25:33and if you just look,
25:33at the card,
25:34you see 10-9,
25:3510-9,
25:35he's got no chance,
25:37but he's in the fight.
25:38And you feel,
25:39he can do more.
25:40You know,
25:40I do feel,
25:41he can fight to his strengths,
25:42a little bit,
25:43better than he is,
25:44but this is real intent,
25:46you know,
25:47fighting like a champion,
25:48here,
25:49O'Doherty.
25:50But when you fight,
25:51at someone else's pace,
25:52and I unfortunately,
25:52made the career out of it,
25:53it's difficult.
25:55The fitness is different,
25:56it really is.
25:57You've got to be so fit,
25:58didn't you?
26:00Because you're always reacting,
26:02and it's hard,
26:03to regulate your breathing,
26:04to know when to throw,
26:05the right punches.
26:07Good use of the right hand,
26:08there from O'Doherty.
26:10Better with the feet,
26:11there from O'Doherty,
26:12landed a nice one-two,
26:13just sliding,
26:14sliding out of range,
26:15he's always there,
26:16good pressure,
26:17first time we've really seen,
26:19Hattin pinned back,
26:20for a sustained period.
26:21The up is still,
26:22the slashing shots,
26:23from Hattin,
26:24who's work rate,
26:25has always been good,
26:27through the,
26:27small hall build up.
26:30But I agree with you,
26:31Darren,
26:31Hattin,
26:32he's working well,
26:33but I think he can do well,
26:34on the ropes head,
26:34he made,
26:35he made,
26:36O'Doherty miss,
26:37there's no opportunity,
26:38to throw back,
26:39and he didn't sort of,
26:39pull the trigger.
26:40He's in,
26:41an area now,
26:42where he's never been before,
26:44you know,
26:45he's up against it,
26:46he's in there,
26:47with the favourite,
26:48who's looking good,
26:49who's oozing with confidence,
26:51you're finding,
26:51something out about yourself,
26:53in these periods,
26:55what do I have,
26:56can I mix it,
26:57with this kind of level?
26:58Bit of blood,
26:58from the nose,
27:00O'Doherty,
27:00only six knockouts,
27:02between them,
27:02so,
27:03we always felt,
27:04this would be,
27:04a long,
27:05draining,
27:06affair.
27:08I had that in one fight,
27:09but it's a fiver,
27:10and come from the other guy.
27:12Wasn't that in Doncaster?
27:13Oh no,
27:14there's a total,
27:14that one.
27:14Oh no,
27:15I'll see you though.
27:18That was nice.
27:19Couple of jabs there,
27:20from O'Doherty.
27:21That wasn't a dome though,
27:22sorry Barry,
27:22wasn't it?
27:23Freitas,
27:24let's remind you,
27:24you did knock him down,
27:25in the first round.
27:26I can't remember,
27:27it was a blur to me.
27:28Darren,
27:29just take him away,
27:29from his misery.
27:32This is really good,
27:33pressing him from O'Doherty.
27:38Oh good shot there,
27:39he's off of O'Doherty.
27:40Again,
27:41yeah,
27:41well you said that,
27:42he's gonna lean it back,
27:42now he's taking that little,
27:43that back foot with him,
27:44isn't he?
27:44And that right hand,
27:45has been very good this round.
27:47That team has been under pressure,
27:49backed up in the neutral corner,
27:51getting a little tougher,
27:52for the challenger.
27:59I've got it,
28:00I've got you.
28:02Actually there,
28:03this is nothing,
28:05we've been catching this every time,
28:07you know?
28:07So what we're doing,
28:08we're leaving,
28:09is for this.
28:09Yeah,
28:10he's taking over now,
28:11isn't he?
28:11O'Doherty,
28:12looking at the pass,
28:12looking confident,
28:13looking strong,
28:14landing good shots.
28:16Decent work from Hatim,
28:17on the back foot,
28:18but it's not the fight,
28:19he wants to be fighting.
28:20You know,
28:20he's not sharp enough,
28:22with hands and feet,
28:22and just not enough tempo,
28:24Barry.
28:24Yeah,
28:25and for me,
28:25that's the first round,
28:26that Hatim,
28:27just looked like,
28:28he was struggling a little bit,
28:30not being able to fire back.
28:31He's going,
28:33you're willing him,
28:34right?
28:34But you've got to keep pushing on him,
28:36you've got to stay,
28:36but keep your hands,
28:37don't walk in with your head.
28:38He's trying to hit you,
28:39the back of the head now,
28:40all the time.
28:41Alright,
28:41you got me?
28:42Gordon Charlesworth,
28:43in the corner,
28:44really believes in,
28:45his man,
28:46Nuno Doherty,
28:47and they feel there is a change,
28:49as does Barry,
28:50we'll see.
28:52What about,
28:54Ahmed Hatim,
28:55up in class,
28:57his big opportunity,
28:58on this sort of stage,
29:00and Nuno Doherty,
29:01really resting control,
29:03of this fight,
29:04with steady,
29:05forward movement,
29:07good jab,
29:08decent right hand,
29:09and pressure.
29:10It's a solid right hand there,
29:12from Nuno Doherty.
29:13Again,
29:14it's not a knuckle punch,
29:15but they're those jarring,
29:15shots,
29:16and bring your energy.
29:18He's just,
29:18a lot more compact,
29:19more accurate,
29:20I've said this a few times,
29:21in this fight,
29:22and it's been the difference,
29:23he's not asking enough questions,
29:25in these last few rounds,
29:27at Hatim,
29:27of the champion.
29:28Good up and got Darren,
29:29winning there as well,
29:30from Odoherty,
29:32starting to find the,
29:33gaps,
29:34and a body shot as well,
29:35and this is the,
29:36time where he,
29:37won the British title,
29:39against Clacken in Glasgow,
29:41he begun to get,
29:42better and better,
29:43as the rounds tick by,
29:45and it's same again,
29:46this is a mirror image,
29:48Odoherty,
29:49cracking shots,
29:50home here,
29:51in the eighth round,
29:52and it's looking tough now,
29:54for the man,
29:54from Lampard Grove.
29:55He's got a fire back here,
29:56Hatim.
29:57Good right hand,
29:58referee having a closer look,
30:00he does,
30:01but while he sticks a tongue out,
30:03Odoherty won't mind,
30:04that one little bit,
30:05he keeps on punishing him.
30:07He's got the height,
30:09the reach advantage,
30:10Hatim,
30:10it is Odoherty,
30:12who's landing those,
30:13crisp,
30:13straight shots.
30:15Just adjusting the feet,
30:17that right distance here,
30:19Odoherty,
30:20to mention that balance,
30:22so well balanced,
30:24isn't he?
30:24There was a chance,
30:26they had to take really,
30:27Team Hatim at 29,
30:29and it's a fight,
30:30he'll definitely come on from,
30:32but I think now,
30:34Louis Odoherty,
30:36is looking very,
30:37very good,
30:38powerful,
30:40composed,
30:41Hatim trying to,
30:43unravel him maybe,
30:44with a body shot in the eighth,
30:46but this has been dominant,
30:48Barry.
30:48He really has,
30:49and also,
30:50he's accurate with his work here,
30:52Odoherty,
30:52more than he was earlier,
30:53in the fight,
30:54and that's a worrying sign,
30:55and that's where fatigue,
30:56is starting to set in here,
30:58for Hatim,
30:58you'll need that second win,
31:00now I think,
31:00to try and,
31:00win a round back.
31:02A lot of variation,
31:04with speed and power,
31:05from Odoherty,
31:06it's not always,
31:07just with movement,
31:08or shot selection,
31:09it's how,
31:10and when you deliver the shots,
31:11and,
31:11we've seen lots of that,
31:13from Odoherty.
31:14Body shot back,
31:15from Hatim,
31:16that's good,
31:16say the red corner,
31:18he's digging deep,
31:19and there is blood,
31:20to the nose of Odoherty,
31:21so he,
31:22will try,
31:23and come on again,
31:25and at the back end,
31:26of another round,
31:27Hatim.
31:27Yeah,
31:27he's got to get busy,
31:28he's really,
31:29I think,
31:30look,
31:30we've seen it,
31:31he's,
31:31he's neglecting,
31:32these physical advantages,
31:33that he has,
31:34with Hart and Reek,
31:35just get close,
31:35do this,
31:36but you have to be busy now,
31:37this fight,
31:38is running away from him.
31:39The last minute,
31:40of these rounds,
31:41have been really good action,
31:42and you can,
31:44congratulate,
31:44Ahmed Hatim,
31:45for that,
31:46but he's not winning this,
31:47Louis Odoherty,
31:48in control,
31:50meanwhile,
31:50Dev,
31:51has got a couple,
31:51of our best,
31:52young heavyweight,
31:53prospects with him.
31:56Well,
31:56I'll tell you,
31:56the future,
31:57of the heavyweight division,
31:58in very safe hands,
32:00two prospects here,
32:01one Queensbury,
32:02in Adam Alanyan,
32:03one Matchroom,
32:04in Leo Atang,
32:05and Leo,
32:06I want to ask you first,
32:07because I believe,
32:07Dave Allen's your uncle,
32:08that's what you're telling people,
32:09how's he going to get on tonight?
32:11I believe he's going to do it,
32:12you know,
32:12a lot of people are writing him off,
32:14but,
32:14he's in Doncaster,
32:15there's not a man,
32:16who's going to beat him in Doncaster.
32:17Adam,
32:18how are you seeing this one,
32:19big night for big Dave?
32:20I'm looking forward to it,
32:21you know,
32:21I think,
32:22if Dave really digs deep,
32:23I think he can pull it off,
32:24you know.
32:25So what about this then,
32:27this is a lovely picture,
32:28you two,
32:29what about you two one day,
32:30Queensbury versus Matchroom,
32:31makes a lot of sense,
32:33right?
32:33Definitely,
32:34you know,
32:34I've known Adam through the amateurs and stuff,
32:36I've seen him on the circuit,
32:37we've always kind of been like,
32:38I have a one weight apart,
32:39obviously,
32:40I grew up and I've got into heavyweight now as well,
32:42so,
32:42of course it's going to happen,
32:43he's building his name in the Queensbury,
32:45I'm building mine in Matchroom,
32:46and it makes for that storyline.
32:47It's got to happen,
32:48right Adam?
32:49100 million percent,
32:50it's going to happen there,
32:51but I think,
32:52look,
32:52me and Leo are the perfect ones for it,
32:53I think,
32:54we're the next ones,
32:55we're the trailblazers for heavyweight boxing,
32:57and we're going to do it.
32:58You most certainly are,
32:59Adam,
32:59back to you.
33:00Thanks Steph,
33:01they are the trailblazers,
33:02and they're both great guys as well,
33:04Leo and Adam,
33:06very of respect between them,
33:07they're very,
33:08very good,
33:09former amateur stars,
33:10everyone's talking about Moses of course,
33:13and Moses is ahead of them,
33:14but those two,
33:15Darren,
33:16we're going to have some fun,
33:17aren't we?
33:17We are,
33:18it's been so interesting,
33:20watching the new stars come through the marquee division of boxing,
33:23the heavyweights,
33:23and there's a very lively crop that's really exciting us,
33:29and this is coming alive,
33:31isn't it?
33:31You know,
33:32Doherty,
33:32rather,
33:33is coming alive,
33:34looking very good,
33:35looking solid,
33:36polished,
33:37it's down to Hattin now,
33:38what has he got?
33:39What adjustments can he make?
33:41And Barry,
33:42has he got the power as well,
33:43Hattin,
33:44to try and turn this around?
33:45I'm not quite sure,
33:46but when people get tired,
33:48the vision's not as good,
33:49you get concentration lapses,
33:51so maybe that long right hand,
33:54I should say,
33:54will become a force,
33:56will become a bit more of a weapon.
33:57Doherty threw 120 punches almost,
34:00in that previous round,
34:01you can see,
34:02how he really gets going,
34:05to sack at third gear,
34:06and warms into these championship fights.
34:10Hattin's having a bit of a better round here,
34:11I think,
34:13a bit more of an effort,
34:14to push O'Doherty back.
34:17Every now and again,
34:18O'Doherty,
34:18as good as his jab is,
34:19he's guilty of pouring it,
34:21every now and again,
34:22like that,
34:23that's the shot he needs to throw Hattin,
34:24exactly what I was about to say,
34:26get that right hand over that lazy jab.
34:29And he did,
34:29right hand and a left hook,
34:30body shot back from O'Doherty,
34:32but both of them having,
34:33some success in the,
34:35ninth round,
34:37and they're both unbeaten,
34:38a left hand as well,
34:40from Hattin,
34:40as he got,
34:41a trick up his sleeve,
34:42in the late rounds.
34:44So is it the wrong shot there,
34:45again,
34:46it was another lazy jab from O'Doherty,
34:47but he threw a jab in himself,
34:49get that right hand him to play.
34:53He's got to be smart,
34:53and can't further waste that energy,
34:55and a fight has been,
34:56a pace like this for Hattin.
34:59Yeah,
35:00O'Doherty's pace,
35:01well,
35:01we see that 119 shots landing,
35:03in the previous round.
35:05O'Doherty slips again,
35:07remember,
35:07Hattin had that problem,
35:09in the first round.
35:10How many rounds has Hattin won?
35:12I thought the second definitely,
35:13maybe you give him one other,
35:15possibly,
35:15who knows how the judges have it,
35:18O'Doherty has got to be,
35:19in a commanding lead.
35:21Yeah,
35:22but this round's close,
35:23I think he's pushing him in this round.
35:25He is.
35:26Push it back,
35:27push it back.
35:29But he's not making,
35:30a big dent on O'Doherty.
35:32Again,
35:33those big wild hooks,
35:34Farris,
35:35they emptied the tank.
35:37Good shot,
35:38good effort,
35:39good spirit,
35:41there's in the ninth round,
35:42from Hattin.
35:43There's two there,
35:44from O'Doherty,
35:45they're both on the line.
35:46Good round of boxing,
35:48both of them O'Doherty,
35:49finishing strong,
35:51and that's a difference,
35:52Hattin's done that in previous rounds,
35:54but he walks back wearily,
35:55to that red corner,
35:57and is the confidence,
35:59just sapping away,
36:01meanwhile backstage,
36:03there he is,
36:04I mean,
36:06Michael Gomez Jr.,
36:08it's not about Manchester City,
36:10it's about me.
36:11There's the white eyes,
36:12he was good last time,
36:13as Darren said,
36:14against Jordan Flynn,
36:15Lee McGregor,
36:16with Billy Nelson,
36:18who's having a fantastic time,
36:20as a trainer,
36:21with Richard Riaqpour,
36:23looking devastating,
36:23the other night,
36:24at Tottenham.
36:26He's a good fighter,
36:28Lee McGregor,
36:28but he was a bantamweight.
36:30He was,
36:30he was massive abandonweight,
36:32though,
36:32and obviously a European champion,
36:33at bantamweight,
36:34I was there at Falls Road,
36:35when he won that,
36:36it's fantastic.
36:37Actually,
36:38he beat Kareem Grofie,
36:39in both of them,
36:39for the first round,
36:40to pick it up.
36:41I mean,
36:42and he's busy,
36:43and he got a good,
36:44tight defense,
36:45but as he showed,
36:46the super featherweight,
36:46he hasn't got that strength,
36:47maybe,
36:47that he had,
36:48at bantamweight,
36:49and now he's lightweight,
36:50it's going to be hard,
36:51to fall in,
36:51but he might have,
36:52putting on that weight,
36:53a bit of age,
36:54might have a bit more energy,
36:55to be a little bit busier,
36:56and he's going to need that,
36:57against,
36:57I think,
36:58Gomez is probably,
36:59in the prime of his career,
37:00right now.
37:01Yeah,
37:01he did look drawn,
37:02didn't he,
37:02when he lost,
37:03to Nathaniel Collins,
37:04Lee McGregor,
37:04so who knows,
37:06what those extra pounds,
37:07will do,
37:08tonight,
37:09the confidence,
37:10of Louis O'Doherty,
37:12the British champion,
37:13at 25,
37:14he does not want to,
37:16lose hold of this,
37:17Lonsdale,
37:17about Commonwealth title,
37:19also,
37:19up for grabs,
37:21Ahmed has him,
37:22havoc,
37:23he's put a really,
37:25good shift in tonight,
37:27but he's,
37:27just shipping,
37:29some punishment now,
37:31this is where he took out,
37:32Clackenberry.
37:33Yeah,
37:33these rounds,
37:34in a fight,
37:35where you're struggling,
37:35for pace a little bit,
37:36the ninth and the tenth round,
37:37of the worst,
37:38because,
37:38you're in the middle of nowhere,
37:40it's a long way,
37:40to the finish,
37:41and you've been in the fight,
37:42for a long time,
37:43you don't really see the end.
37:45He's mixed it up,
37:46really well,
37:46at the start of this,
37:4710th round though,
37:47Doherty,
37:48nice straight shot,
37:49then he'll finish,
37:50with a hook,
37:50he'll dip his knees,
37:52the fence has been tightly,
37:54he's always doing something,
37:55in his own,
37:55whether it's effective,
37:56or not,
37:57he's always been looking,
37:57the busier.
38:00Hatim's legs,
38:01just don't look,
38:02quite as,
38:03fluid as they were earlier,
38:05what if a few body shots,
38:06from Odoherty,
38:07under those ribs,
38:09might,
38:10do some damage,
38:11at this stage.
38:12On the flip side,
38:13I was talking about,
38:14Odoherty every now and again,
38:15pouring out the jab,
38:16I've just seen Hatim do it,
38:17several times,
38:18in this 10th round,
38:19that's an opportunity,
38:20for Odoherty,
38:21to look for the right hand,
38:22over the top.
38:22But he looked for the body shot there,
38:25Odoherty,
38:25hatim coming in,
38:27but,
38:27there's a weary,
38:28warrior look,
38:29to the Londoner,
38:31who's put a great effort in,
38:33on his first challenge,
38:34for a British title,
38:35but there is,
38:36as Barry says,
38:37still a long way to go,
38:38and it's all Odoherty.
38:40That's a lovely jab that is,
38:42a real solid shot,
38:43he just stood,
38:44with the front foot there,
38:45but he was waiting on that left hand.
38:46He's doing some good work,
38:48he's just being on work,
38:50that's the difference here.
38:51I mean,
38:51that passage there,
38:52was a perfect example of it,
38:54wasn't it?
38:55It was a nice jab,
38:55a nice right hand from Hatim,
38:57but in between all of that,
38:58there was about six or seven shots,
38:59from Odoherty.
39:00Didn't load up with it,
39:02just let it flow.
39:03You know,
39:03Ryan Gardner's headlining,
39:05at five weeks time,
39:05on another open air show,
39:07at St Mary's,
39:07different style to Odoherty,
39:09a different weight,
39:10but,
39:11I tell you what,
39:12he just keeps coming forward,
39:14and it's that punishing shot,
39:17it's just,
39:18the swarm really,
39:19of Odoherty now.
39:21But what he needs to do,
39:22Odoherty is,
39:23is he's going to maintain,
39:24at this level,
39:24a little step up,
39:26more smart,
39:27and after you throw the punch,
39:28it's going to be a movement,
39:29some sort of movement.
39:30I feel he can do it,
39:31you know,
39:31he's shown,
39:33at times in this fight,
39:35when he's focused,
39:36and he's switched on,
39:37the defensive skills are good,
39:39just every now and again,
39:40he does switch off,
39:41doesn't he?
39:43Body shots from Odoherty,
39:45it's another round,
39:45for the champion,
39:46he was hurt there,
39:47at him,
39:48right at the end,
39:49of the 10th round,
39:50and look at his legs,
39:52he's a tired man,
39:54and how are they going to get him,
39:55through the next two?
39:59Right,
40:00right,
40:01he's not as good as you lad,
40:02you know that,
40:04alright,
40:04he's nowhere near as good as you.
40:09You've got to work his body,
40:10his elbows are right up,
40:12alright,
40:12put it down the body,
40:13put it down the middle,
40:14especially on the ropes,
40:15straight from the middle,
40:16we work on that,
40:17those little shots,
40:18and the big one over the top,
40:20you got me?
40:21Let's put it together.
40:21It's a terrific corner in there,
40:24with Eric Timoor,
40:25Martin Bowers,
40:26nothing he doesn't know about boxing,
40:28had Carl fail on it,
40:29a little bit,
40:30of time ago.
40:32I think Gordon's right,
40:33the body shots could do the business here.
40:37Let's put them shots through there.
40:39Gordon's 10 seconds,
40:41put him on the head,
40:43right,
40:43body and head,
40:44body and head.
40:45Let's do it down.
40:46Seconds out,
40:47round 11.
40:49Ahmed Hatim coming out,
40:51for the 11th round.
40:54Still trying,
40:55but there are the body shots from O'Doherty,
40:57listening to his corner.
40:59Around there,
41:00the ninth that Carl scored to Hatim,
41:03but he's six in front,
41:05on Carl's unofficial card.
41:07I'm sure the three judges are seeing things similarly,
41:10but can O'Doherty do it again late,
41:12like he did when he won the British medal.
41:14I'll tell you what,
41:15he's listened to the corner,
41:16because he's attacking that body of Hatim,
41:18with vicious shots,
41:19he really is.
41:20I think he could set them up a little bit better as well,
41:23tap upstairs and drop to the body,
41:24but on the flip side,
41:26we were commending the work to the body,
41:28weren't we,
41:29of Hatim,
41:29he's neglected that.
41:31I think he's tired,
41:32Barry,
41:33Hatim.
41:33Yeah,
41:33he's involved in a war that doesn't really suit him.
41:36I mean,
41:37he's almost matched the task,
41:38and he's trying to dig his way out of trouble,
41:41but he hasn't got the engine that O'Doherty has,
41:43so you've got to find a different way to win,
41:46so you've got to use your natural abilities,
41:48those long levers,
41:49and I think what's cost him here,
41:51and I think in watching his other fights,
41:52is the jab looks good,
41:54but it's not strong enough,
41:55and he needs to work on that,
41:56and I think he'd be a much better fighter
41:57if he does get that strength in that left hand.
42:00And O'Doherty just won't leave him alone.
42:04Body shots,
42:05one slipping in low,
42:06but they're just coming at him
42:07in this thudding way,
42:09and Hatim is showing a good chin
42:11and a big heart,
42:13but can he survive?
42:15That was good,
42:15the way he used his feet there.
42:17I think for Hatim moving forward,
42:19I think he was using the jab,
42:21it wasn't nearly as sharp as it should have been,
42:23but he wasn't having as much success
42:25as I guess he would have liked to,
42:27and he was missing a lot.
42:28Moving forward,
42:29vary that jab,
42:30stab it to the body,
42:31stab it to the chest,
42:33don't lose faith in that lead hand
42:34just because you're missing upstairs.
42:36It's a big learning fight
42:37for Hatim,
42:38who will definitively come again,
42:40but even though he's older,
42:42there's a physical maturity
42:44about Louis O'Doherty,
42:45there's momentum,
42:46and as Barry was saying earlier,
42:48that core strength
42:49of being a gymnast,
42:50he's in terrific shape.
42:52Okay,
42:53he hasn't got the fastest
42:54of hands here at O'Doherty,
42:55and he pushes his punches out at times,
42:57so there's lots of things
42:58he can work on,
42:59but he's constantly doing something,
43:00all the time,
43:01and it's quite often,
43:03as the long's gone on,
43:03become more successful with it,
43:05with fatigue setting
43:06against your opponent,
43:07you land more,
43:08you land cleaner.
43:09I think that's encouraging as well,
43:11you know,
43:11there's more he can do,
43:12there's more he can improve them,
43:13but you're always learning
43:14who walks a life,
43:16but there's an awful lot,
43:17we say it a lot,
43:18a awful lot to work with,
43:20lovely right up a pair.
43:22He's been very dominant,
43:24hasn't he?
43:25Could do well to stay on his feet there,
43:27Hattim.
43:28And O'Doherty's mindset as well,
43:30you know,
43:31you've been in a fight
43:31and the guy was trying to match him
43:32for his work,
43:33trying to match him
43:33in this sort of fight,
43:34and he pushed through
43:36and he forced himself
43:37on his opponent,
43:38that's what he's doing.
43:39That's a great phrase,
43:40he pushed through
43:41and that's what he tends to keep doing.
43:43Look at that from Leroy O'Doherty,
43:46dazzling hand speed,
43:47combinations,
43:49he wants this,
43:50Hattim looks at him
43:51and says,
43:52I'm going to stay with you,
43:54but it's so hard.
43:56Let me tell you something about it,
43:57a hard fight when you're knocking
43:58your opponent rallies like that,
43:59that's demolalising.
44:00What's wrong with doing that
44:01halfway from the round?
44:03Yeah,
44:04just one more to go here,
44:05in this,
44:06and it's been
44:07a good display from O'Doherty,
44:10in there with a game opponent,
44:12an opponent who's looking
44:13to change his life,
44:14who come out in the second round
44:16and adapt him,
44:17but back came O'Doherty
44:18and he's been the boss.
44:19because that combination there,
44:20whether they all landed or not,
44:22and most of them did to be fair,
44:24but to have that
44:25extension of pace
44:26and that energy to do that,
44:28for you and your knackered,
44:29you think,
44:29oh,
44:30I can't match you.
44:32And then you start to worry,
44:34then you go back to the corner
44:34like that,
44:35then a little bit dejected.
44:37Exactly as he looks,
44:38walking back to the corner.
44:39Give him credit,
44:40he's come off the small hall.
44:42Go get it,
44:42let's go.
44:43One round,
44:44they know that.
44:44They've got enough
44:46O'Doherty out,
44:46they've got to find
44:47something from somewhere.
44:48I'm surprised he's made it
44:50to the 12th
44:51and that's a gutsy effort
44:52from Hatim,
44:53but this has been good
44:54from Louis O'Doherty.
44:56Nothing pretty,
44:57but very,
44:59very sustained
45:01and,
45:01well,
45:02he's pounded his way through.
45:04I would say about Hatim,
45:05he's never looked hurt,
45:06and to be fair,
45:07he's never felt sorry for himself,
45:08even when he's been tired.
45:09So,
45:09I think his mindset,
45:10he has the mindset of a champion,
45:12so I think he can improve on this,
45:13but he's just come up against a guy
45:15who's on a roll,
45:17mentally tough,
45:18really very,
45:19very fit,
45:19and maintains that shape
45:22all the time.
45:23Look how many he's thrown
45:24through 11 rounds,
45:25over 1,000.
45:26Hatim hasn't done badly,
45:28but all the statistics
45:29are with the British champion,
45:31who's on the verge
45:32of adding the Commonwealth
45:33crown as well.
45:34Just over two minutes left
45:36of what's been a hard-bought
45:3812th-rounder.
45:39Hatim's played his part,
45:41O'Doherty has controlled the fight.
45:43I'll tell you what,
45:44that's a terrific effort,
45:45that from O'Doherty,
45:46when you're creeping
45:47into the thousands,
45:48that's special,
45:49you know,
45:50that shows your intent,
45:52your tempo.
45:53Paul Ingle used to do that,
45:54didn't he?
45:54Oh, Paul,
45:55good fight at Paul Ingle.
46:13And, yeah,
46:14just attempting Hatim
46:17to land a couple of hooks,
46:18but here comes O'Doherty again.
46:21And can he get something
46:22late on here
46:23into the last minute and a half?
46:25Hatim is really,
46:26really tired,
46:28but he's hanging in there.
46:29And he's trying to find out
46:30that he's missing.
46:32And that puts a panic
46:33on all the ball.
46:34Yeah, do you know what?
46:35He's done something
46:35really well there.
46:36He threw about three or four shots
46:37with the left-hand O'Doherty.
46:39The head went the other way
46:41from Hatim,
46:41and he threw the right.
46:42It was beautiful.
46:43Oh, boy, look at his pressure.
46:44Real show of class.
46:48Minute to go.
46:50O'Doherty looks like
46:51he can do three,
46:51four more rounds
46:52at this pace.
46:53Hatim looks like
46:54he needs the break.
46:56He needs the bell.
46:58He will lose
46:58for the first time.
47:00It's been a good effort.
47:01Will there be a late stoppage?
47:02He hangs on.
47:03He's got to throw something
47:04back in.
47:0545 seconds.
47:07O'Doherty will want
47:08to seal the show,
47:09but you sort of feel
47:10you want Hatim
47:11to get over the line.
47:12You can fight
47:12like this
47:13unless you train like this.
47:14And that's the difference,
47:15not the difference,
47:15but that's where
47:16O'Doherty comes into his own.
47:18He must train like this
47:18all the time
47:19to throw a lot of shots,
47:20to be busy,
47:21because he's tired
47:22and he's still
47:22letting his hands go
47:23and that's just grit.
47:24Hats off to the training teams
47:26as well as to the fighters.
47:28This has been 12 rounds fought
47:29at a real pace.
47:32Ahmed Hatim will come again.
47:35Don't be too despondent tonight,
47:37but this is Louis O'Doherty
47:39doing what he does best.
47:41The 25-year-old,
47:43three kids at home under two.
47:45He's British champion
47:46and he's going to be
47:47Commonwealth King
47:48when the bell goes.
47:50Great performance
47:51from O'Doherty.
47:52Great effort from Hatim.
47:54Boxing's the winner again,
47:56Darren.
47:56Absolutely.
47:57Good scrap that.
47:58Two proud men,
47:59two fighters
48:00that desperately
48:01wanted to win that fight.
48:02I thought Hatim started well
48:05and really was trying
48:07to stick it on O'Doherty,
48:08the champion,
48:09but it was the champion
48:10who adapted,
48:12regrouped
48:12and got in his flow.
48:13The tempo,
48:14I mean,
48:14we see the stats there.
48:16It's well over
48:171,000 shots now
48:19after 12 rounds.
48:22A proud champion
48:23and they're going to be
48:24buzzing, Barry.
48:24And in the end,
48:25you know,
48:25Hatim,
48:26you know,
48:26I mean,
48:28he didn't get caught up.
48:29He just still coming
48:29against a guy
48:30who was just physically stronger.
48:32Technically a bit better
48:33as well
48:33because he was adjusting
48:34his feet
48:35and just,
48:36you know,
48:38dominated the round
48:38of the fight
48:38at the end.
48:39At the end,
48:39he did,
48:40didn't he?
48:40Just dominated the fight
48:41with work rate,
48:42straight hard punches,
48:44without really loading up.
48:45Nothing was going to
48:46really hurt the team
48:46but every shot was jarring,
48:48just draining your tank,
48:50draining your tank.
48:51And then,
48:51in those last couple of rounds
48:53where you're supposed
48:53to be tired
48:54and you up the pace,
48:56then you know
48:56you're on to a loser.
48:58Hatim's going to learn
48:59a lot there.
48:59It really is.
49:00I mean,
49:01first off,
49:01use your advantages.
49:03Don't fight
49:03someone else's fight.
49:04So,
49:05I'm pretty sure
49:05in defeat
49:06he will learn from this.
49:08Respect between the pair.
49:10Ahmed will come again.
49:11A big record will go.
49:13And what about this fight?
49:15Absolute sizzler.
49:17June the 27th.
49:19Zander Zayas
49:20defending his WBO,
49:21WBA,
49:22junior middleweight titles
49:24against Boots Ennis.
49:26One of the stars
49:27one of the stars
49:28of boxing today.
49:28It's a cracker.
49:29Live from Brooklyn,
49:31New York,
49:32only on the zone.
49:33I'm going to New York
49:34at the end of May.
49:34I want to go
49:35at the end of June as well.
49:37Absolutely brilliant fight,
49:38Darren.
49:39It's a cracker.
49:40It really is.
49:40Everyone in the trade
49:41knows what a special contest
49:43that is.
49:43And as a domestic duel,
49:45this one's been good.
49:47Thomas Treiber
49:47will confirm
49:49Leo Doherty,
49:50no doubt.
49:54Ladies and gentlemen,
49:55after 12 rounds
49:56of boxing,
49:57we go to
49:58the judges'
49:59scorecards.
50:01Judge Steve Gray
50:02scores it
50:03119-109.
50:05And both judges,
50:06Michael Alexander
50:07and Howard Foster
