In Revelation chapter 18, John witnesses the complete fall of Babylon the Great, portrayed as a powerful and corrupt system that influenced the nations through idolatry, immorality, and unjust commerce. A mighty angel proclaims that Babylon has fallen and has become a dwelling place of demons and a symbol of total desolation.

A voice from heaven calls God’s people to come out of her, so they will not share in her sins or receive her plagues. Kings, merchants, and sailors mourn her sudden destruction, as her wealth and power vanish in a single hour.

The chapter concludes with heaven rejoicing over God’s righteous judgment, and Babylon being cast down like a great millstone into the sea, never to be found again.

00:00Revelation chapter 18
00:04After these things I saw another angel coming down from heaven,
00:09having great power, and the earth was illuminated by his glory.
00:13He cried with a loud voice,
00:16Fallen! Fallen is the great Babylon!
00:20She has become a dwelling place for demons,
00:24a refuge for every unclean spirit,
00:26and a shelter for every unclean and detestable bird.
00:31All nations have drunk the wine of her fornication,
00:35the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her,
00:39and the merchants of the earth have grown rich from her luxurious living.
00:44Another voice from heaven said,
00:46Come out of her, my people,
00:49so that you do not share in her sins or receive any of her plagues.
00:54For her sins have reached up to heaven,
00:58and God has remembered her iniquities.
01:01Give her as she has given,
01:04pay her back double according to her deeds.
01:07In the cup she prepared,
01:09prepare double for her.
01:12As much as she glorified herself,
01:14and indulged in luxury,
01:16give her torment and mourning,
01:18because she said in her heart,
01:21I sit as queen,
01:24and I am not a widow,
01:26and I will never see mourning.
01:29Therefore in one day her plagues will come,
01:33death, mourning, and famine,
01:35and she will be burned with fire,
01:37for mighty is God who judges her.
01:40The kings of the earth who indulged with her
01:43and enjoyed her luxury will weep and mourn
01:47when they see the smoke of her burning,
01:49saying,
01:51Alas, alas, the great city of Babylon,
01:54the mighty city,
01:56in one hour your judgment has come.
02:00The merchants of the earth will weep and mourn,
02:03because no one buys their merchandise anymore,
02:06gold, silver, precious stones,
02:09pearls, fine linen,
02:12purple, silk, scarlet,
02:14all kinds of scented wood,
02:17ivory, costly items,
02:19copper, iron,
02:21marble, cinnamon,
02:23spices, ointments,
02:25incense, wine,
02:27oil, fine flour,
02:29wheat, livestock,
02:31sheep, horses,
02:33chariots,
02:34slaves,
02:35and human souls.
02:38The fruits you desired have vanished,
02:40all the luxury and splendor have left you,
02:43and will never be found again.
02:46The merchants who grew rich from her
02:49will stand far off,
02:50in fear of her torment,
02:52weeping and mourning.
02:55Alas, alas,
02:57that great city,
02:58dressed in fine linen,
03:00purple and scarlet,
03:02adorned with gold,
03:03precious stones,
03:04and pearls.
03:05In one hour such wealth has been laid waste.
03:10All ship captains,
03:12sailors,
03:13and workers at sea
03:14stayed far away,
03:16seeing the smoke of her burning,
03:18and asked,
03:19What city is like this great city?
03:22They threw dust on their heads,
03:25crying and mourning,
03:27saying,
03:28Alas,
03:29alas,
03:30that great city,
03:31in which all who had ships at sea
03:34became rich from her wealth,
03:36for in one hour she has been laid waste.
03:41Rejoice over her,
03:43heaven,
03:43and you saints,
03:45apostles,
03:46and prophets,
03:46because God has executed justice against her.
03:50A mighty angel
03:52threw a large stone
03:54into the sea,
03:55saying,
03:56Thus,
03:56with great force,
03:58Babylon the great city
03:59will be thrown down,
04:01and will never be found again.
04:04No more will music be heard in her,
04:07neither the voice of bride
04:09nor bridegroom,
04:10no craftsman
04:12or sound of mill
04:13will be heard.
04:14No lamp will shine in her,
04:16for her merchants
04:17were the great men of the earth,
04:19and by her sorcery
04:21all nations were deceived.
04:24In her was found
04:25the blood of prophets,
04:27saints,
04:28and all who have been slain
04:30on the earth.
