00:00You tell me what is the first storyline that comes to mind for you
00:04one week into this WNBA season.
00:08Increased scoring.
00:10Scoring is up in the WNBA, and it's been exciting.
00:13I think the New York Liberty have scored 95 points in all four games,
00:16including a 98-96 loss.
00:18We just saw Asia Wilson get 45 points last night.
00:23We saw an exciting game.
00:25So to me, scoring is up league-wide, and I think that is important
00:29because I think it makes it more exciting.
00:31But to me, what has really got my attention personally is I,
00:39before the season, when you looked at the Eastern Conference,
00:43everyone took New York, Indiana, and Atlanta
00:50and kind of separated themselves.
00:52And I kept saying to myself, man, I think Washington is going to be
00:57a lot better than people think.
00:58And you saw a tremendous performance out of Iriafen,
01:03and obviously, you know, the play of Sonia Citron last night
01:08in the start of the season.
01:09But getting Georgia Amore back from the ACL tear,
01:14which he tore ACL, I think it was the opening day of training camp last year.
01:19They have an interesting dynamic because they go double big with Austin and Iriafen.
01:25And then you bring, obviously, Lauren Betts off the bench.
01:30Washington is going to be a team to watch this year as that team that could take that next step
01:36up,
01:36kind of like Atlanta did last year, kind of come out of nowhere almost.
01:39I've been really impressed with the play of the Washington Mystics,
01:44even in their loss to the Liberty in a really, really tight, well-played game to start the season.
01:50Yeah, I mean, the Mystics grabbing a road win in overtime against Indiana was super impressive.
01:56Sonia Citron looks like she is going to be a multi-time all-star in this league
02:00and maybe Kiki Irfan as well.
02:02In that game, though, JY, we saw Caitlin Clark really break out from beyond the arc.
02:07She was 7 of 17.
02:09She had only made three threes on, I believe, 17 attempts in her first two games combined.
02:14She was plus 14 in a two-point loss, which is tough.
02:21Sometimes, you know, it's how it goes.
02:22I think Aaliyah Boston might have picked up an injury in that game, only playing the 21 minutes.
02:27One thing I've noticed, it's early, but of course, Caitlin Clark has people who will overstate probably how good she
02:39is.
02:41Those people don't look as silly as those who are now rushing to basically tell you that she's not that
02:48good, okay?
02:51There was a clip out there that referred to Caitlin Clark as Lynn Saturday.
02:56That is wrong, to put it kindly.
03:00Laughable.
03:01Caitlin Clark is one of the best players in the WNBA.
03:06Caitlin Clark, if you would like to argue she's off to a slow start, I think that's okay.
03:11She's averaging 25, 8, and 4.
03:14She is one of the best players in the game.
03:17And the way things operate in Indiana, she does have a chance to win league MVP.
03:25Now, it's going to be hard to do if Aja Wilson's giving you 45 on 80% from the floor.
03:29But Caitlin Clark, statistically, is going to be right there.
03:35And I don't know, you know, when this season finishes for the fever, right?
03:41I don't know if we're going to say, okay, huge success or, hey, what they're missing.
03:45They're probably missing still something.
03:47Maybe just overall depth, coach.
03:49I guess we'll find out.
03:51But what they are not missing is their superstar in Caitlin Clark.
03:55I think they absolutely have it in bunches.
04:00The other thing is, and, man, I want to find a way to bring this up.
04:08Again, I think we're always pretty respectful.
04:10I know people get very sensitive over certain subjects.
04:15But we entered into a WNBA draft.
04:17Coach thought Olivia Miles should have gone first.
04:19I thought Abba Pham should have gone first.
04:23And I'll never get over, or I guess it'll be a long time before I'm not blown away.
04:29Coach, I don't know if you saw, you know the GM survey they do in the NBA?
04:32They did in the WNBA?
04:34They asked who's going to be the best player from this year's draft class within the next five years.
04:40Zero votes for AZ FUD.
04:44Zero votes for AZ FUD.
04:46I think 67% went to Pham and the rest of them went to Olivia Miles.
04:51It's early for Dallas.
04:53It's super, super early.
04:56But, you know, and I think AZ got banged up a little bit in the second game.
05:00You know, and she missed the game, whatever it might be.
05:03Or, like, again, I think it's super likely, Coach.
05:11And I think we knew it in real time.
05:12So maybe it's confirmation bias.
05:15The Dallas Wings, with another one of the best players in the sport, and Paige Beckers,
05:20didn't get the best player available with the first overall pick in this class.
