00:00You're in New York City, you're the Yankees, you're the Mets, you're fighting for the city.
00:05You're fighting for the reputation of who you are and which team is better.
00:09But does it make the season early in the year? No.
00:12But it's fun. It's fun for the fans, and I think that's what's important.
00:15The fans get to be able to come out early to see their two teams playing.
00:19One is not playing so well, and one is playing well.
00:22But it's always like, it's not how you start, it's how you finish the season.
00:26And that's really what's important.
00:27You can get off to a great start, and you can finish in a bad way.
00:31You can get off to a slow start and finish in a good way.
00:33But there's a juice in the building, and you guys do feed off that, right?
00:37Well, of course you feed off of that.
00:39Why wouldn't you feed off of that when you're playing against a team right across town
00:43and you're looking at them and saying, the most important thing, I used to always say,
00:46well, I didn't play in it, but I would say to myself, we're about to beat the brakes off you.
00:52I was going to ask you, because obviously you didn't play much in 97.
00:55Were you part of it the first year?
00:58I was wondering what it was like, especially for you, with the history with the Mets,
01:01then with the Yankees in 97 when it started, the interleague play.
01:05I thought that must have been an interesting dynamic for you.
01:08I played a little bit, but I had a bad knee.
01:10Yeah.
01:10I wasn't playing much.
01:11But what was it like when Major League Baseball made the announcement
01:14and Mets and Yankees were going to play every single year
01:16and the rivalry was going to have a different take from that moment on?
01:18I think it's very special.
01:20It's an opportunity, like I said, more than anything to represent your side of town more than anything.
01:25I think players have to respect that.
01:28You have to respect the other team.
01:29But you have to go in there with the attitude of, we want to win.
01:32We do not want to lose until you guys.
