00:00We did get some of those deliverables, albeit some of them may be disappointing.
00:03We saw that reaction in Boeing, for example.
00:05There were expectations of purchases of up to 500 aircraft.
00:08They got 200.
00:09President Trump, though, framing that as a win, saying that what they wanted was 150.
00:13So 200 is still a good deal.
00:16We also had some progress when it comes to potentially the negotiations on Iran
00:21that hasn't been confirmed by the Chinese side.
00:23But President Trump saying that Beijing is willing to help.
00:27Yeah, the President Trump now saying that China would not provide Tehran with military equipment.
00:32We'll continue to watch if we see any of that confirmation and that fruition when it comes to resolving the
00:37Iran war.
00:38But you said it at the beginning.
00:39I mean, given all of the fanfare and the pageantry,
00:43the very strong, perhaps bluntest warning yet on Taiwan is what stood out to me.
00:50I mean, those remarks actually being released even before the meeting was over.
00:58That's right.
00:59Let's bring our Chief North Asia Correspondent, Stephen Angle,
01:01who is outside the Forbidden City for us on this final day.
01:05Of course, still a lot on the agenda.
01:07Also with us, our Bloomberg Insight Angle has Linda Armin here with me.
01:10Steve, let me start off with you.
01:12And as Sherry pointed out, these were remarks that came out even before the meeting itself properly started.
01:18What does it tell you about, I guess, Beijing wanting to set the tone and making it very clear what
01:24the non-negotiables are in these talks?
01:28Yeah, I agree with what you and Sherry just said.
01:31And the timing of that message that hit the state media wires while their two-and-a-half-hour bilateral
01:39was still going on
01:40to kind of get a jump on the narrative right away is what stood out.
01:45And it was really, and I've been covering this for a long time, and we all know China's position on
01:50this.
01:50It's a red line issue, a non-negotiable issue with Taiwan.
01:55But they essentially, you know, issued through, of course, Xi Jinping, the most blunt warning yet, if you will, that
02:04Xi has given.
02:05He said, if this situation is handled well, the ties between China and the United States can progress.
02:12I'm paraphrasing here, but he did say if they are not handled well, it could trigger a highly dangerous situation.
02:20And again, the fact that they delivered it before it was even, that meeting was over,
02:25and the fact that it was not included in the White House readout of the bilat spoke volumes.
02:33He has a backdrop, of course, is this $14 billion arms sales package to Taiwan, still paused right now in
02:43Washington, D.C.
02:44So perhaps this was a highly strategic move by Xi Jinping to put some, sow some doubt in Donald Trump's
02:53mind
02:53about whether he needs to, can and should, when he returns to Washington, D.C., to sign that or to
02:59maybe, you know, pull back a little bit.
03:01Again, there was a lot of debate about whether Donald Trump would use different wording towards Taiwan.
03:08Right now, Marco Rubio, who is telling NBC News that essentially we did not feature Taiwan prominently in those talks,
03:17or Taiwan was not featured prominently in those talks.
03:21U.S. policy on Taiwan is unchanged as of today.
03:26So we still have another few hours left and more opportunities for these two leaders to talk.
03:32Perhaps Taiwan will come up again.
03:35Again, it's a nuanced approach, but also a blunt approach by Xi Jinping to plant this seed in Donald Trump's
03:44mind
03:44that this is a non-negotiable subject.
03:48So we'll be right back.
