00:00What was it back when you were a young boy growing up in Canada?
00:03What made you want to get into rock and roll?
00:06I started classical violin when I was five.
00:08It was Royal Conservatories.
00:09You got to play Chopin and Tchaikovsky and all this stuff.
00:13And I turned like 14 and it's a very boring life because it's all classical
00:17and the world is changing.
00:18And I auditioned for a symphony orchestra
00:20and realized I wasn't as good as the classical people there.
00:23And so I quit.
00:24I said to my mother, I'm not playing violin anymore, I'm quitting.
00:27She said, what are you going to do?
00:28I said, I have no idea.
00:29The next day I saw Elvis Presley on TV.
00:31And I said, what is that?
00:33Because the TV was brand new back then.
00:35It was the mid-50s.
00:35That's called rock and roll.
00:37That's called the guitar and that's called Elvis Presley.
00:39That's insane.
00:40Everybody's screaming at the guy, what's going on?
00:42That's what rock and roll, you do whatever you want.
00:44You can dance and shake and scream and yell.
00:46I said, I want to do that.
00:47My cousin's had a guitar.
00:48I picked that up and played it.
00:49It's just like a violin.
00:50I started a band.
