Bernie Rayno takes a look at the areas that could experience severe weather this weekend and early next week.
Transcript
00:00Stormy weather pattern this weekend in the early next week.
00:03Numerous showers, thunderstorms, flash flooding, and severe weather.
00:09This is the recipe for severe weather in the central part of the United States.
00:13That big high-pressure system off the Carolina coast, what does that do?
00:16It takes Gulf moisture and transports it northward.
00:20The dip in the jet stream into the southwest takes all of the heat that's been building in the southwest
00:25and rams it northeastward.
00:27And that dip in the jet stream produces energy for showers and thunderstorms.
00:33This weekend is going to feel like August.
00:36Look at all of that warmth from Texas in toward the Midwest.
00:40There are the high temperatures on Sunday.
00:42Watch that warmth spread north and east, by the way, as we head in the Monday.
00:47So it is August heat, August humidity, but May energy.
00:54Lots of energy coming out of the Rockies as we head toward Sunday and Monday, and that means severe weather.
01:00No doubt about it.
01:01Already we have a moderate risk as we head into Sunday across parts of the plains and the Midwest.
01:07That area moves a little farther east as we head into Monday.
01:10Now, both Sunday and Monday, all forms of severe weather.
01:16Damaging winds, hail, flash flooding.
01:18But unfortunately, we think there is a potential for at least several tornadoes,
01:23with the potential for over a dozen both those days.
01:27Make sure you stay tuned to AccuWeather.com.
