00:00you both heard the rules in the dressing room obey them all the time okay you understand touch
00:05gloves let's get them online they do touch gloves but it won't be friendly this one
00:10we've got mad max and the punisher ready to go here on easter sunday on fox sports
00:21referee john couchy okay ready to get them going box this one is
00:30a ten rounder for the wbo oriental super middleweight title the winner set to head into
00:39the world rankings so a very meaningful fight between the australian orthodox fighter and the
00:47kiwi southport yes indeed both guys came out straight to the body shots which is unusual
00:55three or four body shots landed from each guy straight away but i think both guys now just
01:00looking to get the premium or primary position in the center of the ring
01:06up on his toes and moving and wheeling around his white tie
01:13he can be somewhat unorthodox but what he does very well why i say is feints he really keeps his
01:20opponent guessing with the way that he gestures towards punches a classical style of a boxer is max
01:29reeves high quality as well and i mentioned that sparring he's been doing with connor wallace and
01:35an injury free camp as well so they're very confident they'll see the best of max reeves
01:41here today and he'll need it too against a very high quality francis white tie yeah you can see reeves
01:47is um very correct in the way that he fights and you know um he'd need that if he's sparring
01:52connor
01:53wallace because connor's a sharp top rated light heavyweight and um white tie just looking the body up and
01:59down probably trying to arrange where his angles are going to come from how he's going to frustrate
02:04reese but reese just keeping it straight up and down working off the jab sticking to the basics very well
02:12pretty watchful in the early stages here what are they looking at ted what are they trying to find
02:18out in the opening round well for reese he's just trying to look for an opening you know he's not
02:22really reese is not really fainting or doing anything he's just looking to pop the jab and look to
02:28for um white tie to potentially make a mistake on moving the wrong direction and for white tie he is
02:34fainting he's looking to try and get reese to commit to something that is going to allow him to counter
02:39punch and so we're going to get a lot of um toe treading and moving around so these guys really
02:44find their distance and then go hard towards the body i suggest we do have an orthodox fighter against
02:52the southpaw here so that front foot will be important as they tread on each other and try and
02:59go inside and out you know there's a massive um thing about the the foot the um the foot being
03:09on
03:09the outside of the opposite fighter when you're southpaw or an orthodox and i've always thought that
03:13that is nonsense and i think i heard terence crawford say that's also a nonsense so it just happens people
03:19think about it but you know i think if you get a good shot and your foot can be inside
03:23or outside
03:23as long as you land a good punch yeah i heard terence crawford shutting that down a couple of times
03:28as
03:28they do just trade there at the end of the opening round so it started to fire up a little
03:34bit some
03:35punches did get through
03:46step the overhand don't bring it too early straight straight
03:50yeah
03:54yeah
03:55keep getting off the line keep your head moving
03:59yeah
04:00good
04:01breathe
04:03make sure you're checking the hook
04:05yeah
04:07breathe how are you feeling
04:09don't overstep with that front foot just nice and balanced
04:11yeah need that movement
04:12that work
04:16okay
04:18come on second down come on let's go
04:26box
04:27round number two
04:29commences here between reeves and white side
04:33and reeves
04:34does go forward
04:37leading with that jab
04:39one thing you really notice with francis white side ted is his feet are really split apart he really
04:46widens and broadens that stance to try and get himself a bit more range and a bit more reach i
04:52think
04:53yeah well it lasts for that massive leverage and gives him good foundation but you know it shortens um
04:58his height and probably takes him a little bit away from where he needs to be he thought about throwing
05:04the cheap shot there and then thought again anyway
05:07reeves this corner was very much talking about balance you know and balance is underrated in boxing but it's really
05:12really important so
05:13with him having the good you know stance and a little bit wide as well
05:17and getting that balance right it can allow him to come back and throw some big shots as we go
05:21through this fight
05:22nice little counter right hand too from reeves
05:26white side did find himself a little in no man's land there
05:29with that
05:30split stance
05:31there's a shot as well
05:33yeah well white side keeping the right hand or the lead hand
05:36really low just to encourage reeves to come in
05:39and throw them shots and potentially making mistakes but you know reeves is just
05:43you know really staying on his p's and q's and just keeping it very basic which is
05:47a brilliant thing in boxing
05:48nice turns around the right hand there does reeves
05:52that one got through
05:53the bit of glove in the way but
05:56plenty did connectors
05:57white side comes back with a short left hand
06:00perfect
06:00yeah tagged in beautifully
06:03very very very short but effective
06:05well there's the best moment of the fight for each fighter there in that little 30 second period
06:12now reeves goes hunting with his powerful right hand as well
06:17yeah it was clean it was long and i think if i look at this fight reeves needs to keep
06:21it long to remain successful
06:23he's got to keep it long keep working off the jab don't get caught into really
06:26these inside little battles because they seem to favor favor um white eye
06:38and these guys just um looking to try and capture position both working the body tremendously well to be fair
06:51he's trying to reach out and then he just fires a hook white ties
06:57reeves comes towards he tries to find the body that one may
07:00just got a little low but john couch our referee thought it was okay
07:09yeah white eye really fighting with his eyes and what that means is that
07:14um as an opponent you know you look to where the eyes are going before you know where they're going
07:18to punch
07:19and he's really advertising the fact that he's going to look low punch low
07:22and and that's allowing um that's allowing for reeves to see what's happening
07:29a little messy there towards the end of the round but
07:33the right hand from white side finished it off
07:36and he can scan that qr code for the pay-per-view from 11am
07:49as part of all of that you'll see
07:51from this heavyweight contest between two former rugby league stars
07:57big nelson he's 1-0 with one first round stoppage but jared wallace thinks that he is the man
08:04to derail the big nasty train
08:10and gee they had a lot to say
08:13there yesterday
08:22two big men who will be in a hurry
08:26in that fight later on this afternoon on main event television
08:32yeah there may be no time to blink for that one
08:35absolutely
08:37and this one's starting to warm up
08:40what would you like to see from max reeves here ted
08:43well from reeves i like what he's doing from a boxing
08:47sorry from a boxing perspective
08:49they're trying to do some tongue twisting there
08:51so what he's got to do i'd like to see him throw a couple more feints to allow
08:56white eye to come in so we can catch him with the uppercuts and the body shots
08:59but for now
09:00with the way that he fights he's doing pretty well
09:02working off the long punches keeping it long
09:05and it works well in his favour them long punches
09:08for white eye i'd like to see him close the distance
09:10maybe hold a little bit more to get inside
09:13and then throw them sneaky little shots to throws
09:15once he is inside it seems to work for him really well
09:18but for now we've got a bit of a um
09:21standoff
09:23yeah they camped at this range a lot
09:25but you're right white eye
09:27when he gets in tight
09:28that sort of range
09:30those short punches
09:32do look slick from him
09:33he loves to drive to the body with his power hand
09:36his left hand as francis white eye
09:41yeah white eye is just um
09:44like i say really really scanning the body with his eyes
09:46when he when he fights he just he's looking down
09:49you see him look down for about two seconds
09:50and then he'll throw throw the punch
09:52and um canada arborist said you know
09:55he's he's got a lot of knockouts by looking at the body
09:57and then throwing to the head so
09:59he needs to maybe adopt that trick
10:01but some action coming in here
10:02yeah reeves got through with the right hands
10:04as white eye did close the distance trying to fire himself
10:08there goes reeves again along with that right hand
10:16yeah white eye here needs to just push the pressure a little bit
10:20keep pushing forward
10:22reeves beautiful right hand
10:23yeah that's a good counter shot that he turned around with the right hand did reeves
10:28white side just found himself caught there which he can do with that split stance
10:35and he goes to the body there's reeves and white eye comes back to the body
10:40and they tangle again
10:41right back
10:46yeah reeves is continuing to keep his form pretty well
10:49uh white eyes trying to you know just offset off balance reeves and
10:54you know he needs to do more of it to be fair i'd like to see white eye maybe push
10:57him a bit
10:58you know make him a bit uncomfortable take him off his rhythm
11:01because when when the rhythm disappears a bit that's where white eye seems to throw them
11:04beautiful little sneaky shots on the inside
11:12good body shot
11:13reaching out to the body there reeves
11:15good body shot
11:23reeves just keeping it long
11:28that's two
11:29three rounds down
11:33you're in our second part of the day
11:35and
11:36this is the white eye corner
11:44quick press, quick press
11:45I start trying to get that cool top okay with the pressure
11:48he's coming in
11:49we're letting him walk forward
11:52When he comes forth, he fires us two, and when we take the angle, don't step back in front of
11:58him.
12:07When you hear the buzzer, get out.
12:08Yeah, yeah.
12:10When you hear the buzzer, get out.
12:12You can never notice.
12:13You just do it for yourself.
12:14With enough, guys.
12:23Let's go.
12:26So we're up again.
12:27This is round four.
12:29Max Reeves and Francis Waitai.
12:32And this one just trying to get going.
12:36Both of them sticking to their plans
12:41at this point.
12:46Yeah.
12:46Trying to find that target, and it just needs something to really set it a light.
12:52You know, I hate to say this, Ben, but they've kind of both found their zone.
12:55You know, and I won't use the word safe zone, but they've definitely found their zone.
12:59And so, at times, they come out of that zone, and they get into these little clashes and clinches,
13:03which look fantastic, which favoured Torella.
13:05Beautiful left up there.
13:06Well, that was Waitai pressing forward and trying to change the complexion here,
13:11a little bit, and it was Reeves who picked him off.
13:14So, Waitai found himself in tight.
13:18Scored with a couple of shots, but then Reeves came back with a solid punch of his own.
13:24There's a counter shot from Reeves.
13:28And he tries so again.
13:29They both work to the body, and Reeves tries to find him as they clinch.
13:32Right!
13:33Get back!
13:34Get back!
13:35Yeah, them short inside things favour Waitai.
13:38Sorry, I used the wrong boxer's name there before.
13:40Oh.
13:41But, um...
13:41We saw him earlier.
13:42He's getting stitched up back in the house.
13:44Oh.
13:45Can't get him back out here.
13:46Yeah.
13:47Yeah, but, um...
13:48Yeah.
13:48Has to get out of that comfort zone, and they fight on the inside.
13:52The inside work seems to favour Waitai, but...
13:55I do like what Reeves is doing with his length and his boxing ability.
14:01They do grip onto each other again here, and it is Waitai trying to punch from that position.
14:08Yeah, 100%.
14:09That favours him.
14:10I mean, it's, um...
14:12Reeves likes the clean boxing, and he boxes really well.
14:16Waitai can make it messy, keep his right hand down, go on the inside, throw them short
14:20hooks, and do all that stuff inside.
14:22It's gonna...
14:22He needs to fight that type of fight to be successful here.
14:25Again, Waitai found the body there.
14:28Then he drives again, and he's really hunting towards the body of Reeves, is Francis Waitai.
14:34Reeves, he's happy at this range.
14:35This is where he wants to be.
14:36Yeah.
14:37Jabs.
14:38Took a good shot there.
14:41There's a slick right hand from Reeves as well.
14:44Now Waitai fights back.
14:47The drive to the body with the left hand from Waitai, and that is his punch.
14:52I saw Reeves look a little unsteady a couple of times on his legs there, whether it's his
14:55balance or taking good shots, but he definitely needs to keep it long if he's gonna, um, win
15:01this fight comfortably and stay on his feet.
15:03Yeah, Waitai has closed the distance here, late in round four.
15:07Reeves fires back from that position, but Waitai has changed the range here, just momentarily,
15:15and he gets through with a really strong shot, two to Waitai.
15:19Beautiful shot.
15:20Left hand onto the chin of Reeves, who might be a little unsteady.
15:25He is unsteady.
15:26Well, that is a big shot with that left hand flush onto Max Reeves, and he just changed the
15:33complexion, did Francis Waitai.
15:35He rumbled in towards, and as they start to arrive in Wumagong on Easter Sunday, that
15:42was a better moment for the New Zealander.
15:46Go to the right skid, the middle back.
15:48You make him work, yeah?
15:50Breathe.
15:52Keep going.
15:53Good.
15:54Breathing's good.
15:56Just keep compact, yeah?
15:57You can see the guys going at it here, and Waitai just throwing that big left hand, boom,
16:04cutting him right on there, and making Reeves' legs just a little bit shaky.
16:08And then that inside work worked well for Waitai.
16:12Gets Reeves really uncomfortable, and Reeves doing what he does best there, just trying
16:15to keep it long where it is advantage.
16:19Gee, it was a beautiful punch, Ted.
16:20Beautiful.
16:21Just a short left hand as Max Reeves was opening up to throw his own shot.
16:26He just crept inside and went bang.
16:29That is very nice stuff from Francis Waitai, and it'll give him huge confidence.
16:34Beautiful.
16:35Short, sharp, crisp, straight on the button.
16:41Let's see what that does to Max Reeves, because it was while he was opening up and trying
16:47to throw a power shot of his own.
16:49Does he put that away for a while, or does he continue to do what was giving him success
16:56in this fight?
16:57Well, he's gone back to the jab.
16:59He's landed three or four really long, good jabs in this round.
17:02So his corner would have been telling him, you know, don't get caught up in this inside
17:05fight, because the length is going to help him.
17:07But this fight's starting to walk a bit now, Ben.
17:10Yeah, he doubled up the right hand, too, did Max Reeves.
17:14Caught the southpaw twice.
17:17Now he's back jabbing.
17:20Mad Max Reeves.
17:25Again gets through.
17:28Nice one, too.
17:29And you've got Waitai putting the M off some, putting his hands up a little bit.
17:33Respecting that.
17:34Power coming back.
17:35Looking to get in closer.
17:38Which is good.
17:41There's two in them, Ben.
17:44There's two in them, Ben.
17:45Waitai, left hands.
17:47Go, go, go, go, go.
17:47Push up, push up.
17:48Yeah, looking for that big left, but the short shot.
17:51And he goes forward.
17:52There's another one.
17:53Beautiful, beautiful.
17:53Francis Waitai with 90 seconds left in round five.
17:57He scored with a good left hand, and he continues to push forward here onto Max Reeves.
18:04Well, he's found his shot.
18:08It is that.
18:09Well, it's that.
18:10It is that.
18:11Beautiful.
18:13And we'll see it again and again, because Waitai knows how he can do damage.
18:20Right.
18:20It's really working well for him.
18:21Come back.
18:23And he's just waiting on that moment that Reeves is trying to fire himself, and he's just getting in between
18:30the punches.
18:34Shows a really good eye and good timing, Ted.
18:36Yeah, well, he's been, he's been, you know, scanning the body with his eyes from round one, and he's really
18:42found a home for that left hand.
18:43So, he's just going to keep repeating, repeating, repeating, and it seems to be landing really well at the moment.
18:50Maybe he's using the eyes as a fake now as well, because it does look like Reeves at times is
18:55trying to cover the body and taking shots over the top.
18:58So, educated stuff from Francis Waitai.
19:02Yeah, absolutely.
19:03Well, like I said, this is Canelo, one of Canelo's old tricks.
19:05He looks to the body and, boom, brings the big left up to the head, and he's got a lot
19:08of knockouts that way.
19:13So, this is good work from Waitai.
19:15Pushing back is doing really good work in this round.
19:21Gutsy from Reeves, though.
19:22He fires back.
19:31That is the end of round five.
19:36There we go, everyone's here.
19:41He's chock full of Easter eggs and ready to ramble here in Wollongong this morning.
19:46Beautiful left hand there from Waitai.
19:48And that's what he's been doing.
19:49He's been looking to just replicate and repeat them.
19:52He seems to have them on a conveyor belt, just coming off occasionally.
19:56Boom.
19:56Another left hand, whether they're straight or whether they're hooked.
19:59Beautiful.
20:00And Bailey did well to stay on his feet, to be fair.
20:02But Waitai looking to close that distance and just keep them left hands going.
20:08There's the numbers on this one.
20:10So, look at the dominance in punching from Reeves overall.
20:17Headshots.
20:1893 scored from that man, Max Reeves.
20:21So, they tell a story.
20:23It was the other way around, though, in the previous round.
20:27And as we begin round six and thus the second half of this fight,
20:33it is Max Reeves absolutely firing out towards Francis Waitai,
20:38trying to step up the pace.
20:41Have you got it scored, Ted?
20:43I've got it 48 to 47 for Max Reeves.
20:47Three rounds to two so far.
20:49But the second round could have been a pick-em
20:50because Waitai did land a couple of his first left hands there.
20:54But 48, 47 unofficial.
20:57Okay.
20:57So, Reeves by rounds for Ted Kofi at the halfway mark.
21:04Jeez, he started very differently here in round six as Max Reeves.
21:09Yeah, he came out on a mission, a real sense of purpose, you know,
21:11to just probably establish himself again.
21:13But, you know, I like the way that Waitai has accepted the challenge
21:19and just really settled this down.
21:20And he looks to be now pushing the distance and closing the gap.
21:23But Reeves looks good.
21:25Trying to find a right hand to the body is Max Reeves.
21:33He jabs up Reeves as well and scores.
21:43Yeah, Reeves just adopting that really boxing,
21:47boxing on the retreat a lot now.
21:49You know, trying to keep it long.
21:51Box backwards, but looks good when he's moving forwards as well.
21:54Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.
21:56Here goes Reeves.
21:58Thudding shots from the Australian.
22:01And he got through with a couple and then pressed forward,
22:04trying to keep it going as Waitai fires out that left hand.
22:09Yeah, some nice combination punching there from Reeves.
22:13And the output has been really, really significant.
22:16But, you know, I mean, don't sleep on Waitai.
22:19He's there, you know, and he's seeing everything that's coming.
22:22And he's trying to get that sneaky left hand in again.
22:28He only found it there, did Waitai.
22:31But Reeves gets the right glove in the way.
22:40Yeah, long, Reeves.
22:42Beautiful, beautiful.
22:44The straight punches is where Reeves has got to keep it.
22:46It looks so classy when he does that stuff.
22:48The one, two, right uppercut, and then left up.
22:52All the straight shots entirely look good.
22:55Much better round for Max Reeves, this one.
22:58As he reaches to the body with the right hand,
23:00and he's really been hunting for that.
23:04Waitai, just a little bit at sea at that range.
23:07Here goes Max Reeves now.
23:10Yeah, I had the first three rounds for Reeves, then two for Waitai.
23:13And he's turned it back around again, Reeves.
23:15Boxing a beautiful masterclass in this round.
23:20Left hand, Waitai still is there.
23:25And that is a much, much better sixth round for Max Reeves.
23:37Good.
23:37Big chicken away like that.
23:38Let's twist your soul out a bit, eh?
23:40But we're not going to do it being untidy, are we?
23:42Untidy.
23:43Yeah?
23:45Three.
23:47When you're wheeling out, that's got to be up.
23:49Yeah?
23:49Here you see the guys going at it.
23:51Make sure you're chicken.
23:52With Reeves using his length.
23:54Throwing the combination punches right there,
23:56landing the left hook.
23:57And then going down to the body, throwing the uppercuts.
24:00Great work.
24:02And again here, the straight punches just seem to work.
24:05Drop down to the body with your ribs.
24:06Yeah?
24:06He seemed to work really well.
24:07But Waitai, very steady on his feet, even though he's taking some punishment.
24:13Reset.
24:13But I think the boxing belonged very much to Reeves in that round.
24:18Yeah?
24:19And Waitai did well.
24:20Just trying to settle back down and throw that left hand occasionally.
24:26So this is round number seven.
24:33And let's see what version of Max Reeves we get here.
24:36He was adamant, wasn't he, to start the previous.
24:40And it was successful for him as he tries to find an uppercut.
24:45So mixing it up as well is Reeves here in seven.
24:51And along with the right hand as well.
24:54Waitai had so much success with that short left hand on the inside.
25:02Yeah, Waitai.
25:04Sorry, Ben.
25:05Yeah, Waitai looking to, again, just going down to the body with purpose.
25:09Um, Reeves just using that length, the beautiful jab really well.
25:15But I like him.
25:16I like Reeves when he's going forward.
25:18He boxes well on the retreat, but much, much better when he's going forward.
25:21Don't hold.
25:22Don't hold. Come on. Punch away, bud. Come on.
25:24Let him go. Punch away. Come on.
25:31Body shot from Waitai.
25:33And it is Reeves and Waitai just swinging around
25:37once and trying to establish a position here in round number seven.
25:42Hook from Max Reeves.
25:44Long right hands from Reeves as well.
25:47Waitai continues to push forward.
25:49He wants to be in here tight.
25:50But at the moment, it is Reeves boxing better on the inside.
25:54Yeah, spot on, Ben.
25:56Reeves is doing really well when he uses that length, the boxing, the combinations.
25:59But Waitai will not be, not be pushed back.
26:05He won't let it go, man. He's like, he's just chasing something.
26:08And he's trying to just sneak that left hand over time and time again.
26:13Well, he knows what that left hand can do for him.
26:16There's Waitai, so he's willing to risk it all.
26:20Yeah. To bring it into play.
26:23Ooh, he goes wildly with it.
26:29Yeah, the punch stat must have a big differentiation, but it really doesn't tell the true story of the fight.
26:36Because Waitai is strong, he's tough, he's in the fight.
26:39He's throwing some big shots, but beautiful boxing again from Reeves.
26:43Beautiful shots.
26:44Yeah, good kid of punches there from Max Reeves.
26:47And you talk about the punch stats.
26:48Well, these past 200 connected punches is Max Reeves.
26:51Francis Waitai is back in 115.
26:54So it is certainly Reeves scoring with the clean shots.
27:03But we know he can be hurt by that left hand of Waitai.
27:06Yeah, I was going to say that we know that Reeves can be hurt a little bit.
27:10But as far as pure boxing is concerned, it's kind of, it's one way.
27:14But the power's coming in from Waitai.
27:16It was the left hand of Waitai that got through.
27:19But Reeves, he was moving backwards at the time, so took him out of any real danger.
27:26That is seven down here between Reeves and Waitai in Wollongong.
27:34Well, we're talking about those punch stats and, well, look at that.
27:39Look at the dominance from Max Reeves.
27:43159 shots have scored to the head, 212 overall.
27:47Francis Waitai, well, some of those 66 have been very strong left hands,
27:52but overall, Reeves dominant in a scoring punch sense.
28:03Yeah, absolutely.
28:04I mean, you can see I've got it unofficially at 68 to 65.
28:08And I think a lot of it's just based on the fact that it's just a lot of combination punches
28:13coming from Reeves.
28:14The way he's boxing beautifully, using his length and distance, his timing.
28:18But Waitai will not be forgotten in this fight.
28:23He's just going to try and keep the dream alive.
28:26They just raced out to meet each other.
28:29Get back, get back.
28:29Both of them had the same idea, but it did not work out.
28:33Oh, that's gone straight to the body from Max Reeves and then Waitai on the inside.
28:41Gee.
28:41Yeah, it was clean.
28:43A bit of tape coming away from Reeves' glove.
28:46Bit of everything in the first 20 seconds of this round.
28:49And John Couchie will now say, can you sort that out, please?
28:53It's an old corner trip, but it probably wasn't in this case.
28:56I don't think so.
28:57Give your fighter a bit of a rest, you know, undo the laces.
29:01See what happens.
29:05Well, that's a lot of tape from Paul Turck-Carroll, and that shouldn't be occurring again.
29:10So they go again, and again they race towards each other.
29:16Reeves and Waitai.
29:19Long punching from Reeves.
29:21Waitai was moving backwards, but scored on the top of the head.
29:25Yeah, beautiful.
29:26You can see the effect that Reeves has when he punches moving forward
29:30as opposed to punching moving back.
29:32Excuse me, even though he's got the great boxing ability,
29:34the forward momentum really works well for him.
29:37Upper cap was a beautiful punch from Reeves,
29:39but Waitai saw it and just got a glove in the way.
29:42Now Reeves goes forward and scored with a good punch.
29:47Waitai has lost his feet for a moment,
29:49and then he scores big with a left hand as Waitai.
29:52That left hand cannot be missed.
29:54Here he goes, Waitai.
29:55He scores again, and Max Reeves will need to hang on or get out of there
29:59because Waitai just went bang and bang with that big left hand.
30:05Yeah, Reeves needs to move to the left and keep moving to the left
30:08to stay away from Waitai's left hand.
30:12Well, he knows what he's trying to do.
30:15And his blood from the nose of Reeves now as well as a result of those left hands.
30:21Yeah, he took some good ones, but you know, the movement commentating is much easier said than done.
30:26Right hand was a beautiful punch from Reeves as well as Waitai closed in on him.
30:32So through a bit of adversity here, we're seeing Max Reeves fire back onto Francis Waitai,
30:39who is hunting for those left hands.
30:47Yeah, this round is nice.
30:48It's heating up.
30:52And Waitai's really pushing back.
30:54He's got a, he's on a bit of a mission in this round,
30:57but Reeves has just got to really keep it, keep it long, keep doing what it's doing,
31:01keep working off the jab, keep keeping the punch volume high.
31:05Reaching out to the body, Waitai, right hands over the top, Max Reeves.
31:10Blood continues to come from the nose of Reeves as the left hand gets through onto him again.
31:14Now he punches well to the top of the head as Max Reeves with his own left hand.
31:18Lots of action in this eighth round and Reeves is up against these ropes
31:24with Waitai closing in, body shot with the left hand.
31:27Let him go, let him go, step back.
31:29Gets through as well.
31:32Yeah, big breath there from Reeves as he leant over the rope.
31:36Great round from these guys.
31:37Waitai's really pushed back well.
31:39Oh, there's a good hook from Reeves and another.
31:42Two good punches and a third left hook from Max Reeves
31:45to finish a round where he took some punishment, but gave a whole heap back.
31:51Let's fucking get him, friend.
31:55Left hook happy was Max Reeves at the end of the rounds.
31:58And we want things like that.
32:01Let's turn it up.
32:03Get back to your right.
32:05That's right.
32:06You don't need to start to get back to your right.
32:08Hear the guys go at it again.
32:11And Waitai landing that beautiful left hand that he's been looking for
32:14from very, very early in the fight.
32:15And when it lands, poof, the man does do some damage.
32:18Busted the nose in that round and just kept going for it.
32:21Just kept rinsing and repeat, rinsing and repeat.
32:24But Reeves did really well.
32:25Stay on his feet.
32:26Try to keep it long.
32:28Coming back with some good shots.
32:30And on occasion there, even the right hand landed for Waitai,
32:35which we haven't seen often.
32:37Reeves came back with a good left hand, but the big power shots
32:40really coming from Waitai there, making and doing the damage.
32:43Who'd you give the round to, Ted?
32:45You know what?
32:46I actually gave that round to Waitai, to be fair.
32:48He landed some good left hands and unofficially 77-75 to Reeves,
32:54but some tight rounds and some well-contested rounds.
32:59I'll tell you what's surprising when you have a look at the record
33:01of Francis Waitai.
33:02He's got one career stoppage, 13 victories.
33:05He only stopped one opponent.
33:06So, gee, that left hand looks like it should have done more than that
33:11throughout his journey to date.
33:13But it's certainly on song here today against the high-quality Max Reeves.
33:18Absolutely.
33:18And to quote the great Terence Crawford again,
33:21everyone's a puncher man when you're in the ring.
33:23It doesn't matter if we've had no knockouts,
33:24because if you get caught on the tip of the chin at the right time
33:27with the right time and you don't see the shot, it's going to hurt.
33:32Reaching out is Waitai to the body.
33:36Reeves, he turns around to right hand.
33:40And he goes to the body and over the top,
33:42and Waitai responds to the body.
33:45It's rugged here.
33:46In round nine.
33:50Yeah, Reeves trying to push forward when he came out then,
33:53but was forced to go backwards.
33:54But he's boxing well.
33:56It's just that Waitai has just got this mission in his eyes.
33:59He's like, wait a minute,
34:00I didn't get these tattoos on my head for nothing.
34:01I'm going to just keep pushing forward until I do something.
34:06Yeah, I think that would have been quite painful.
34:08I can't imagine.
34:10Getting that amount of ink.
34:11Oh.
34:12As he takes a right hand from Reeves.
34:15Beautiful.
34:15But stands right up to it.
34:17Come on.
34:18A tribute to his father, the tattoo on his head.
34:22Francis Waitai.
34:25And he's digging deep here in round number nine,
34:28as Max Reeves scores with some big shots
34:31and none bigger than that one.
34:32Yeah, great work.
34:34This is good from Reeves.
34:36The right hand has come right into play.
34:38He finished round eight with the left hook.
34:40Now he's got the right hand and it's a grimace from Waitai,
34:44who knows that he's right up against it here in the ninth round.
34:48Exactly.
34:48When Reeves pushed forward, he's dangerous, man.
34:51He throws them strong, straight punches.
34:53Oh, there's a good shot from Waitai.
34:55Uppercut and the nose explodes of Reeves.
34:59Oh, that was nice.
35:00Oh, there he goes again, does Waitai.
35:03And now we have all-out war here in round number nine.
35:07Come on.
35:08Reeves was having things his own way,
35:10his right hand scoring at will.
35:12And then Waitai just said,
35:14well, don't forget about this left hand that I've got.
35:16Oh, my goodness.
35:18And now he sets Reeves back on his heels.
35:20Oh, a big shot from Waitai again.
35:23Blood all over the face now of Max Reeves.
35:27Reeves has taken some monster left hands from Waitai.
35:30Oh.
35:32He had to grimace and fight through.
35:35Oh, another one.
35:36Oh, his legs are gone.
35:38He needs to hold on.
35:38Max Reeves in all sorts.
35:40Come on.
35:40Why, Ty?
35:41Does he have his man here?
35:43Stop.
35:43Oh, well, they'll have a minute to try and bring him back, Max Reeves.
35:47But he's bloody and he looks unsteady.
35:52Now it's over to this man, Paul Turcaro.
35:54Take a pop.
35:55Yeah?
35:58Pop.
35:59Don't get untidy.
36:00We're not here to put on the show.
36:01We're here to get the W.
36:03Yeah?
36:04Nice run, Nathan.
36:05Yeah.
36:06Breathe.
36:07Pop.
36:09Don't get poxy jabs there every time, mate.
36:13Breathe.
36:14Pop.
36:15Mate.
36:16Mate.
36:16What have we been training for?
36:18Mate, all that movement.
36:20Yeah.
36:21One to get.
36:23Let's not get into a trading match.
36:25Yeah?
36:25We don't need to.
36:27We've got to be smart.
36:29One to get.
36:30You had to be easy over that first half of the round and then you've got to untidy.
36:33Yeah?
36:34That's all in the middle.
36:36One to go.
36:37That's all.
36:37Done the work.
36:38Come on.
36:41Okay.
36:41So it is all on the line here.
36:44Waitai and Reeves.
36:46They've both had big moments.
36:48Reeves in particular throughout.
36:50Wow.
36:50But Waitai has picked his chances and gee, he had Reeves in all sorts there in round number
36:56nine.
36:56Here in the final round of this one with a place in the WBO world rankings at super middleweight
37:02on the line.
37:03Ted, how do you have it scored?
37:05You know what?
37:05This fight has real meaning.
37:07I've got it 86 to 85.
37:09It's close.
37:10I gave that left round to Waitai after Reeves started really, really well.
37:16And then Waitai just flipped the script man and ended the fight.
37:19I mean, ended that round really well.
37:20But the left hand has really, really been the difference here for Waitai.
37:23So you've got Reeves up by a point.
37:25I've got Reeves up by one point unofficially.
37:28Okay.
37:28So that is the situation for Ted Kofi.
37:34And, well, there were ebbs and flows in the previous rounds.
37:39Such success with the right hand from Reeves.
37:41But then Waitai just reintroduced his dangerous left hand.
37:46And Reeves looked very unsteady.
37:48Yeah, he did.
37:49But, you know, to be fair, Reeves has thrown a lot of punches.
37:52And he's looking really good when he's going forward.
37:54But he's so susceptible to them left hands.
37:59Oh.
38:00Waitai's got a serious chin on him too.
38:02He has taken some big shots.
38:04Big shots.
38:07And he's really not shown any signs.
38:10Watch your head, both of you.
38:11Come on.
38:11Of damage.
38:15Yes.
38:16Inside that one.
38:16As Reeves.
38:18Yeah.
38:19Sorry, Ben.
38:19As you were saying, Waitai hasn't shown any signs of damage.
38:22He's been tagged many times.
38:23But he hasn't really looked like he's going to go.
38:25Whereas Reeves has looked brilliant.
38:27He's thrown so many and landed so many shots.
38:29But he's looked very unsteady at times.
38:31He's got that look on his face again, does Waitai.
38:33The grimace.
38:36And that's where things started in the previous.
38:42Good boxing from Max Reeves though.
38:44Keeping it long.
38:45Working off that jab.
38:47Going to the body as well.
38:49And trying to find his way over the top.
38:51Max Reeves needs to just keep moving to his left.
38:53Keep the punches long.
38:54And just do not move to the right side.
38:57To get them to accept them left hands.
38:59Beautiful.
39:00Beautiful.
39:01And then he goes over the top as well.
39:03Good start from Max Reeves.
39:05Don't hold.
39:07And a left hook on the inside too from Reeves.
39:09But we see him doing this sneaky inside shot now.
39:15Oh, they just rumble here.
39:17Oh.
39:17They tried.
39:19Reeves don't need this.
39:20Reeves needs to keep it long.
39:21He needs to just keep it long.
39:22Good.
39:23Wow.
39:24Both scoring.
39:25Beautiful.
39:26Both standing up to it.
39:27Reeves burrowing forward.
39:29Goes to the body, does Reeves.
39:31Wide side trying to absorb and fight back.
39:35Brilliant round from Reeves.
39:36Great recovery.
39:37Great fight from both guys.
39:39Beautiful.
39:40Well.
39:41Here we go.
39:43Reeves and Wintai, they leave it all out there.
39:46There's a place in the world rankings up for grabs.
39:50And both of these fighters have produced absolutely everything they could
39:54in the final moments of this 10 rounder.
39:58A very compelling fight with ebbs and flows.
40:03And ultimately a brilliant finish between two high quality super middleweights.
40:09Yeah, man.
40:10I really enjoyed that.
40:11I mean, Conor Wallace, who's fighting in a few weeks, will be glad to look at his
40:15sparring partner do so well.
40:16I've got it 96-94 in favor of Reeves.
40:20But a couple of the rounds there were a pick them rounds.
40:22I think the advantage went to Reeves because his boxing was so good, so long, so beautiful.
40:27But the toughness, you know, the unconventionalness, if that's the word, all went over to
40:33White Eye who just stayed in there, man, and made this fight really, really competitive.
40:37That was a really good fight.
40:39Yeah, no backwards steps were taken in this ring here today.
40:45And that'll be the case throughout.
40:47You can scan the QR code now to order because from 11am Australian Eastern Standard Time,
40:54so an hour and 10 minutes from now we head to main event pay-per-view.
40:59It is being termed the rise of Tim Zhu against Dennis Noria.
41:05And we're having a look at some highlights from rounds 9 and 10 of that fight we just saw, Ted.
41:10Yeah, we can see here, Ben, amazing, you know, shots coming from left, right and center.
41:15But if you just look here at White Eye, man, he just kept dropping their left hands like there was
41:19no tomorrow.
41:21Rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat.
41:22And, you know, there was a major dance being done there as Reeves just, you know, did the tango.
41:29But he stayed on his feet.
41:31He came back so strong in round 10.
41:33It was a credit to him.
41:34But White Eye would just, he just, he just would not take no for an answer.
41:39He just kept throwing them right, them left, shall I say, throwing them left.
41:42And if we skip into round 10, we can just see that, you know, Reeves turned it around, listened to
41:48his corner, threw them shots, used his heart, went forward.
41:53And towards the end of the fight here, you can just see these guys both throwing monster shots, world ranking
41:59on the line.
42:00You can really see this fight really, really meant something.
42:03Nobody wanted to step back.
42:05Nobody wanted to say no.
42:06And as a result, you know, the television viewers and the crowd here in the stadium really got a good
42:13showing and a good contest.
42:15And I enjoyed this.
42:17But I think Bailey, sorry, I think Reeves will look at this and say, I'm going to stick with the
42:23outside boxing.
42:24Well, who said you can't be involved in a professional boxing event and spend Easter Sunday with the family as
42:31Max Reeves is showing us right now as we send it up to Steven Payos.
42:35Ladies and gentlemen, a massive round of applause, please, for both of our boxers.
42:39What a fantastic bout.
42:45After 10 magnificent rounds, we go to the judges' scorecards for the decision.
42:50And the winner will be crowned the new WBO Oriental Super Middleweight Champion.
42:55Judge Mick Heafy scores the bout, 99-91 Max Reeves.
43:04Judge Leanne Reid scores the bout, 96-94 Francis Waitai.
43:13Judge Leanne Reid scores the bout, 98-92.
43:20In favour of your winner, by split points decision, Mad Max Reeves.
43:33So it goes by split decision, Max Reeves gets the result from two of the judges, Francis Waitai.
43:41He was found favour by one of the judges.
